    Paul,

Have you noticed that the Forum Thread, "Traitor" has disappeared?

You won't find it in the threads, nor will you find it in a Search under the Topics.

I suggested to Jim DiEugenio that the poster, Jeff Royle was more than likely an alias for Pope. I suspect you won't see him again either.

  2. Bob Woodward and the Nihilism of “LOL Nothing Matters” Republicans

By Tim Miller September 10, 2020

    https://thebulwark.com/bob-woodward-and-the-nihilism-of-lol-nothing-matters-republicans/

“We should be talking about the insane fact that there is a recording of the president saying how dangerous this pandemic was at the same time he was lying to the American public and telling them not to worry about it because it was going to disappear “like a miracle.”

In any normal time, a revelation like this would trigger the president’s resignation, not because of the politics, but because of the moral outrage.

Woodward’s interviews with President Trump make as plain as day that our president is a congenital xxxx who is overmatched by the job, incapable of understanding reality, and utterly indifferent to the suffering his failures have caused.

Woodward’s interviews with Trump’s advisors reveal that the president’s own top men found him to be “dangerous,” “unfit,” compromised by Putin, “rudderless,” and possessing an attention span that is a “minus number.”

Given all that, it’s no wonder the president’s fans have resorted to nihilism and self-delusion.

    What else do they have?”

The threat of right-wing theocracy has raised its ugly head once again

Published 1 min ago on September 13, 2020

    By Paul Rosenberg, Salon

    https://www.rawstory.com/author/paul-rosenberg/

“The Federalists, like today’s Republicans, were the conservatives, the party that believed the rich should rule, feared that more people being able to vote would put them out of power, regarded immigrants with contempt, and hypocritically boasted of having “all the religion.” The Federalist clergy, like the right-wing clergy of today, were outspokenly political, preaching that it was a religious duty to vote for Federalists.”

“That story is told in a new book by author and researcher Chris Rodda, “From Theocracy to Religious Liberty,””

In his Inaugural Speech of January 20, 2017, Donald Trump declared, “We are protected by God.”

Lately, he has been declaring that Joe Biden wants to "hurt God" and is "against God" and wants to "hurt the Bible."

As Mr. Rosenberg said, "Theocracy is rearing its ugly head once again."

Up is down: Trump lies that Biden would 'destroy' Obamacare's protections for pre-existing conditions

By Daniel Dale, CNN September 11, 2020

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/11/politics/fact-check-trump-biden-pre-existing-conditions-obamacare/index.html

Washington (CNN) “President Donald Trump told one of the most absurd lies of his relentlessly dishonest reelection campaign on Thursday.

At a campaign rally in Freeland, Michigan, Trump claimed his opponent, Joe Biden, "will destroy your protections for pre-existing conditions." Trump went on to say that he would himself preserve these protections.

Facts First: This is not only false but a complete reversal of reality. The protections for people with pre-existing conditions were created by the very Obama administration in which Biden served as vice president -- as part of Obamacare, the 2010 law Biden has vowed to preserve and strengthen if elected President. Trump, conversely, has tried repeatedly to get bills passed that would have weakened these protections. He is now trying to get the entirety of Obamacare struck down by the courts”.

  5. We don't want to spread panic about the coronavirus, but antifa is OK.

    https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/christopherm51/oregon-fires-antifa-rumors?utm_source=digg

“A vague Facebook message by the Molalla Police Department posted Wednesday evening (Molalla, Oregon) fed suspicion among the rumor- and fire-stricken residents.

“To those of you still in and around town, please report any suspicious activity (strange people walking around/looking into cars and houses/vehicles driving through neighborhoods that don't belong there) to 911 immediately,” the MPD post read.

“EDIT/CLARIFICATION: This is about possible looters, not antifa or setting of fires,” the updated post read. “There has been NO antifa in town as of this posting at 02:00 am. Please, folks, stay calm and use common sense. Stay inside or leave the area.”

Besides the Molalla Police Department, the Medford Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office have published appeals on their Facebook pages in the past 24 hours for the public to stop spreading false information connecting antifa to the Oregon fires.”

  6. Democracy is the worst form of Government…”

    By Richard M. Langworth 26 June 2009

    https://richardlangworth.com/worst-form-of-government

quoting Winston Churchill, 11/11/1947 in the House of Commons, as cited in his book, Churchill by Himself, page 547.

“Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…”

  7. - Donald Trump -

"When Hitler was bombing London, Churchill, a great leader, would oftentimes go to a roof in London and speak. And he always spoke with calmness."

You have to hand it to the British people. They must have really good hearing to hear calm-speaking Churchill over all those bombs raining down down on them from the sky.

But that's okay. The people were reassured and didn't panic when he told them that all those bombs they were seeing were just a hoax that would magically disappear when the weather got warm.

In today's press briefing Trump muttered something about why he talked to Woodward in these meet ups talks, some of which were by phone.

He even praised Woodward in two comments. Something about Woodward being respected by many news media figures?

    Joe,

At his Michigan rally Thursday night, Trump called Woodward "a wack job".

How can you believe someone who talks out of both sides of their mouth?

  9. Trump’s extra $300 jobless benefit already running dry in some states

    By REBECCA RAINEY 09/10/2020

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/09/10/trump-jobless-benefit-running-out-411763

“The extra $300 federal boost to unemployment benefits created under an executive action signed by President Donald Trump is already running out for some states, less than a month after the program launched.

Both Texas and Tennessee, some of the first states to start paying the extra benefit, were notified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency this week that they will no longer receive funding to provide the $300 under Trump’s new Lost Wages Assistance Program.

Montana, one of the first states FEMA approved to participate in the program, was also told funding for the program was to be cut off after the week ended Sept. 5. Iowa, which just started paying out the extra $300 benefit last week, said it too had been notified from the federal government that the program has ended.

And in Arizona, the Department of Economic Security recently warned that the extra payment could end in the state as soon as this week.”

  10. Biden Campaign Firm Hit by Suspected Kremlin Hacking Attack

By Jamie Ross Updated Sep. 10, 2020

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/biden-campaign-firm-hit-by-suspected-kremlin-hacking-attack?ref=home

“Reuters reported Thursday morning that suspected Russian state-backed hackers have attempted to breach the systems at Washington-based SKDKnickerbocker, a strategy and communications firm working hand-in-glove with Joe Biden’s campaign. The attacks, which took place over the past two months, were unsuccessful.

The failed hacking attempt was brought to SKDK’s attention by Microsoft, which reportedly gathered information identifying hackers linked to the Kremlin as the most likely suspects. The attacks are said to have mainly focussed on phishing—a common hacking method which lures users into disclosing sensitive passwords.

That was the method used by Russian hackers to access DNC emails, which were subsequently leaked online, ahead of the 2016 presidential election.”

“Authorities in Knoxville, Tennessee, are conducting an all-out search for a tiger that was spotted on Wednesday night in an industrial park.

A Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy saw the animal at the Forks of the River Industrial Park on the east side of the city, according to a news release.

Sheriff's patrol units and AirWatch are searching for the tiger along with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), and Knoxville Police Department's Animal Control, the Sheriff's Office said.

It's not known where the tiger came from.

The Sheriff's Office is urging residents to contact them if they see the tiger.”

“In a January 28 (2020) top secret intelligence briefing, national security adviser Robert O'Brien gave Trump a "jarring" warning about the virus, telling the President it would be the "biggest national security threat" of his presidency. Trump's head "popped up," Woodward writes.

O'Brien's deputy, Matt Pottinger, concurred, telling Trump it could be as bad as the influenza pandemic of 1918, which killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide, including 675,000 Americans.”

Late January/Early February 2020: Afghanistan’s national intelligence service raids the home and affiliated offices of Rahmatullah Azizi, the suspected middleman between the Taliban and Russian government. U.S. intelligence officials believe Azizi was using a complex network of international wire transfers to route as much as $100,000 per slain American soldier to Taliban militias. It is believed that Azizi has since fled to Russia for protection.

February 2020: Information about the Russian bounty program once again makes its way to the National Security Counci after new intelligence emerges from the interrogation of detainees in Afghanistan.

February 2020: Defense Secretary Mark Esper receives an intelligence briefing about Russian payments to the Taliban.

February 27, 2020: President Trump is provided information about the Russian bounty program again in his PDB.

Trump didn't do anything about either one.

  13. Why Jared Kushner suggests reading 'Alice in Wonderland' if you want to understand Trump

By Jamie Gangel and Elizabeth Stuart, CNN Wed September 9, 2020

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/09/politics/jared-kushner-trump-rage-book/index.html

"Jared Kushner gives surprising insight into his father-in-law in legendary journalist Bob Woodward's new book "Rage." Kushner says one of the best ways to understand President Donald Trump is to study the Cheshire Cat from "Alice in Wonderland."

Woodward quotes Kushner paraphrasing the Cheshire Cat as a way of making sense of Trump's chaotic style of management, saying, "If you don't know where you're going, any path will get you there.""

“It was clear to Woodward that none of this was meant to criticize Trump, just as a way to help understand him. That said, Woodward was surprised and writes, "when combined, Kushner's four texts painted President Trump as crazy, aimless, stubborn and manipulative. I could hardly believe anyone would recommend these as ways to understand their father-in-law, much less the president they believed in and served."”

I don't know who identified this hat as belonging to John Connally, but I don't think it's his.

Here's a picture of Connally. Notice how the sides of his hat curve upwards.

I'm pretty sure the hat shown in your picture belonged to one of the members of Will Fritz's Homicide Bureau.

“Now the coverage from the right has resulted in a wave of death threats towards Adbusters; it left Adbusters editor Kalle Lasn considering whether the “siege” language and related promotional materials—including a photo illustration of the White House engulfed in smoke—were too intense.

“We’ve sort of changed our mind a little bit, and now we are going for a more benign, sort of a ‘play jazz’ type of strategy,” Lasn said. “My dream actually is to have thousands of jazz musicians all over America turning up and playing jazz all over the country for the next 50 days.””

Kind of reminds me of the days of the Yippies.

  16. The potential for chaos is palpable’: CNN reporter warns of Trump encouraging supporters to watch polls

    https://www.rawstory.com/2020/09/the-potential-for-chaos-is-palpable-cnn-reporter-warns-of-trump-encouraging-supporters-to-watch-polls/

"President Donald Trump on Tuesday night asked his fans at a North Carolina rally to work as poll watchers to prevent Democrats from supposedly “stealing” the 2020 presidential election.

“Be poll watchers when you go there,” Trump told his supporters. “Watch all the thieving and stealing and robbing they do.”

CNN White House correspondent John Harwood on Wednesday warned that the president’s encouragement could spell trouble for polling sites on election day — especially if some of his fans decide to show up armed with guns.

“You could imagine, for example, that in the same way that vigilantes have entered scenes of protest in Oregon, in Wisconsin, where two people ended up getting killed and one of the supporters… has been charged with homicide, you can see people trying to intervene at election polling sites,” he said. “He’s suggested, of course, that people show up having cast an absentee ballot and try to verify that their ballot was cast or vote again.”

The bottom line, said Harwood, is that “the potential for chaos is palpable."

    I'm voting early.
