Bill, these were my questions. Here's the answers I found, although somewhat unsatisfying:

    • Lennon was murdered one month before Reagan took office;
    • Lennon had been silent for five years raising Sean, but was making a comeback in 1980.
    • Lennon had been on Nixon's enemies list, was vilified for his Happy Xmas/War is Over billboards.
    • The government's repeated efforts to deport him failed, and he was granted permanent residency.
    • Appears he was deemed a threat when he resurfaced in 1980 and was here to stay.
    • Apparently the national security apparatus did not want him around writing songs and buying billboards during the new administration's efforts in illegal clandestine activity (Iran-Contra, etc.).

I plan to get David's new book.

    Thanks.

I guess part of my skepticism is that in my memory Lennon's big song at the time was Watching the Wheels.

In it he basically says he has withdrawn and is satisfied to sit back and watch and that he just had to let it go.

It's hardly a call to action.

  2. The first reason is that John Lennon was a man of peace.

A couple of questions about that -

    • Why is it so important that he was a man of peace in 1980, what was the military action of concern?  ---- the war in Vietnam has been over for 6 years.
    • What political influence did John Lennon have in 1980?  --Imagine, Give Peace a Chance and So this is Christmas are 9-10 years in the past.  Lennon's time in the spotlight was over.
    • A possible common motive for the murders of JFK, MLK, RFK and Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, Medgar Evers was their support of civil rights -- I don't remember Lennon being an outspoken supporter of civil rights although I don't doubt that he did support them.
    • By 1980, the left had been decapitated by the murders noted above -- why worry about Lennon?  .
    • Wouldn't the murder / attempted murder that is most comparable be the attack on George Harrison? -- who is not controversial at all.

The Secret Service had Ruth translate the note? Am I reading that right?

Apparently, for the first couple sentences.

It seems that entry in the Chronology  implies that Ruth Paine may have fabricated the note and put it in the book for Marina as her house had already been searched.

This would have made it hard to explain how the note was missed in the search(es?) unless it was hidden in a book.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

  4. Interesting interview on YouTube above, but - almost as many pats-self-on-back per hour as a certain ex-president.

After finishing listening, it sounds like he's started by interviewing Air Force personnel about what they saw on Nov 22 and built on that and other evidence to a theory of who was behind the plot.

Some interesting comments in the interview concerning JFK telling some in his circle who was going to kill him, LeMay's actions / inaction, and a claim that considering the goals of the plot as defined in the book that it was a failure.

  5. Sorry, I don't know if this question is permitted, if not, feel free to delete / ignore.

What is the make up of the group of voters that would vote for  RFK Jr.?   Surely, the relatively small number of people concerned with the JFKA records aren't the problem.

If either / both of the 2 parties feel that their candidate is so shaky that their main argument is that a vote for a 3rd candidate or non-voting is a vote for the other party - it's on that party to nominate a better candidate.

Adding: And the connection to the JFKA seems to be that in the 1964 election the vote against the other guy strategy seems to have started being significant.  I seriously doubt JFK would have employed or have had to employ this strategy wrt Goldwater who was a friend.

This theory doesn't hold much water, IMO. The circumstances of the shooting had way more to do with it than any mindset. Think about the deaths of MLK, RFK, and John Lennon, and the shootings of Wallace and Reagan. The vast majority of people were satisfied with the official solutions. Not so with JFK.

And there's a reason for his. Because it stinks, stank, stunk.

    +1

It would be much easier to accept a lone nut assassin vs. a conspiracy.

Historically, in the US, haven't the majority of political assassinations / attempted assassinations been by lone assassins?

    1-Diem assassination.
2- Chicago attempted assassination of JFK.
If the Diem assassination was actually related to the Chicago attempt, I think it probably was, I want to know where certain people were on those days to compare with their whereabouts on 11-22-63.  Let’s start with LeMay and work from there.   It should prove or disprove some things.

    An interesting thought.

Are you serious? Who cares what a search engine labels them as. Are you actually trying to claim that there's no distinction between a dollar bill with a tear in it and a dollar bill that is torn completely into two or more pieces?

LOL -- I've shown the common usage of the word torn wrt dollar bills.

I believe it's what the posters of the images labels them as.

Perhaps you need to pay better attention to what it was that I said exactly before you keep wasting my time having to correct you.

I said the only evidence of a dollar bill TORN IN HALF comes from Armstrong.  Apparently you're one of those who don't understand the difference between a dollar bill having a tear in it..... versus..... a half of a torn in half bill.

Well.... nah -- the note on the report doesn't say 'Partially torn Dollar' - it says 'Torn'.

And unless John Armstrong filed that report in 1963, he's not the source:

A quick search on DuckDuckGo for images of "Torn Dollar Bills" includes these results with their photo titles among others:

I haven't moved any goalposts.  The claim is that Oswald had HALF of a dollar bill.  Please point out where any such thing is listed among the inventory of items on his person when arrested.  Betcha can't.

IIRC - you previously stated that the only evidence of a torn dollar bill was made up by Armstrong.

So, yeah, you are moving the goal posts, since the FBI report lists a torn dollar bill notation.

  11. 1 hour ago, Bill Brown said:

There is no evidence whatsoever that Oswald had a torn half of a dollar bill.  This is nothing more than a factoid, foolishly invented by John Armstrong.  Upon arrest, an inventory of Oswald's possessions mentions nothing about half of a dollar bill.  Armstrong found a notation on a piece of paper inside the Dallas Police archives that mentioned a torn half of a dollar bill, but even this particular piece of paper has nothing on it which even hints to it being anything assassination-related.

As Micah Millet pointed out in another thread there is evidence of a torn $ bill.

True.  When my wife and I toured Scotland about 30 years ago, we were able to understand most of the Scots, except for the people in Glasgow.

My grandparents and many residents of my hometown when I was a kid were all born in Ayrshire.

I can understand the Glaswegians after a day or 2 there.

Worked on a project there for about half a year - great place.  The museum is incredible.

  13. By chance ran across this today, which might be interesting:

December 3—17, 1963, times unstated, Arlington/Dallas, Texas. Marina Oswald, a guest of the federal government in a motel before she departed to the home of Katya and Declan Ford where everyone seemed to have their eyes on the cash register, was interviewed repeatedly by FBI S/As James Hosty, James Ward, Bardwell Odum, Arthur E. Carter, Anatole Boguslav, and Wallace Heitman.

This was a “let’s check her earlier stories” series of interviews, out of which came stories of the Walker event ALONG WITH repeated denials that Marina ever saw Oswald come or go with the rifle, or take target practice with it, or, for that matter, that she never saw anything more than the bare butt of the gun as it was in the Paine-garage blanket. (Commission Exhibit 1403, 22H 765—784)

Ruth Paine was questioned first, as it was the ever-pious “St. Ruth” who, out of pure goodness, took three books that had belonged to Marina to the Irving, Texas, police station. Marina was not in contact with her, and wanted no contact, but Ruth wanted her to have the books—two of which were about raising children, in Russian, and Mrs. Paine worried that Marina would be lost without the Russian books. There then followed, quickly, a few “chain of possession” interviews regarding the books, until it is learned that there was a note in one of the books. It was exhibited to Ruth Paine and she was asked about it, but she claimed she had no knowledge of it whatsoever. “While the Secret Service agent held it up she read the first line or two but did not get to complete it. She recalls reading something to the effect that “here is the key to the post office.” Clearly, this is intended to be the “Shroud of Turin” Oswald—Walker note (if in fact, it ever was written in relation to Walker, as Sylvia Meagher put a wholly different yet possibly more plausible explanation to that document), and Ruth Paine put it right into the hands of the feds. But the Oswald-Walker note was in Russian.

Per Wiki: The episodes identified three men as the assassins of Kennedy: deceased drug trafficker Lucien Sarti and two living men (Roger Bocagnani and Sauveur Pironti). All three were later revealed to have strong alibis: Sarti was undergoing medical treatment in France, another was in prison at the time, and the third had been in the French Navy. One of the two living men threatened to sue, and Central Television's own subsequent investigation into the allegations revealed they were "total nonsense". Turner justified his failure to interview one of the accused on the grounds that the individual was "too dangerous". Turner was censured by the British Parliament. The Independent Broadcasting Authority forced Central Television to produce a third episode dedicated to the false allegations, which aired on November 16, 1988, which was later referred to as a "studio crucifixion" of Turner and his inaccuracies.

Thanks - I only remembered the LBJ one.

Moving Connally leftward, I believe Knott's Lab was trying to show something like this alignment.

So why not use what the WC provides.

JBC was approx 1" lower in height (WC testimony) sitting in the limo, than JFK was. Use your imagination for the downward path.

Much more faith in Dr. Shaw than the WC.

    SRC5X.gif

I had a thought concerning the idea of moving Connally & possibly JFK.

Originally, it seemed a good approach to use a 3D model would be to go from the wound path back.

Maybe it should go the other way - start at a location then see what has to be moved in the limo for it to work.

Now, if it was me and I had those animation skills I would test the SBT by testing possible locations, TSBD, DalTex, County Records.

    For each possible location

    1. The height and approximate distance to the limo is known
    2. The slope of the street is known
    3. The approximate position of the limo is know from the film
    4. The horizontal and vertical angles could then be calculated

So then the idea would be to

    * move the virtual JFK & Connally torsos until the horizontal angles matched up

    * then move the torso postures up / down & rotated left / right until the wounds matched

I'd guess that they would have to be in some strange, even impossible, positions for some shot sources.

This could then be used to reject SBT locations and possibly the SBT in demonstrations to interested parties if the torsos have to be moved to improbable locations.

btw:  I don't personally believe the SBT.

Sigh. An “orchestrated operation” ? By whom, exactly? You are aware that the claims about French involvement first widely aired in “The Men Who Killed Kennedy” were so wildly incorrect (and libelous) that the episode was retracted, right ?

    I think you are confused.

IIRC, the episode the history channel retracted was one of the last ones - concerning LBJ.

Would you happen to have a link about a retraction for the 'French' episode?  It was a completely different one from the LBJ one.
