since yarborough was supposed to ride along with kennedy and connolly with lbj, are we to assume that the assassins were told to take out kennedy and yarborough as a secondary target, then the morning of the assassination lbj was informed that connally would be riding with kennedy, and the assassins were not informed?

I have been reading a book written by James Earl Ray recently and the information he gives about how both Time and Life magazines go after him is quite startling. I will be writing a seminar on the evidence that occurs both in the MLK and JFK cases. Ray himself was knifed 22 times but survived. These deaths do send shivers down your spine, especially since I have been trying to find an address for Braden.

I would add E. Howard Hunt to that list. Although he is unlikely so say anything there is always hope. I am in the process of contacting a man named Ralph Paul who dined with Jack Ruby around the time of the assassination.

it seems decker had a reputation among his co-workers also. he was in part responsible for tranferring oswald at the time they did .

im sure a tie can be found between himself and ruby if it looked at hard enough. im sure he wasnt a one man operative in the DPD, he probably had a few others on the payroll, perhaps he instructed one of them to let ruby in.

Bill Decker has always seemed to me to be one of the main suspects as an inide man for conspirators in the DPD due to his mob ties. he was well known as a bag man for benny binion who owned the horseshoe casino in las vegas and also worked in gambling in texas. any thoughts on him?

I dont think andy meant any harm by what he said, he simply hasnt had much interest in the case and was being light hearted with regards to his eyes glazing over when john speaks about it. thats the way i read it anyhow.

good to see so many people can keep an interest in the assassination for so long. it shows how in depth an investigation of this nature really is.

Ive always been fascinated by american history (modern), i study history in college and so far the only american topic i have covered is the american revolution but we did not go into details about battles etc but merely looked at causes of it.

I just wanted to get a feeling of what age people started researching/reading at. I know that myself (19), nic (18/19) and Gibson (14) are the youngest members of the jfk section. did people start looking into it later and life than myself,nic and gibson and are we a better informed generation or was it around the same stage. also how long have you all been researching for?

Since we have previously had a thred about songs that have something to do with the assassination i thought i would start one about movies.

The ending for Dr.Strangelove was not the originally proposed ending, it was supposed to end with a huge pie fight and the president being hit in the face with a pie, one of the generals then remarks 'our beloved president has been cut down in his prime' , they had to change it as just weeks before it was due to air kennedy was shot.

In 'malcolm x' directed by spike lee we see malcolm x saying that he didnt care that kennedy was shot because he was a white man, malcolm x later retracted this i believe after his trip to mecca.

with regards to the photo of cork, there are indeed people hanging ot of the windows but there are gardai (irish word for policemen) all along the parade route, their uniform is navy jackets with light blue shirts and navy hats. one can be seen in the bottom left corner and they are in a row for as far as my eye can detect. this was not the case in dallas.

on closer inspection of the photo, there are people hanging out of the windows along the route, though i must say that cork would have been a lot more difficult to police at that time, and at the risk of sounding anti-cork (!) they can be a bit ignorant from time to time. it cant have been easy to control an area so tightly compacted such as that. Ireland was not seen as a threatening place (irish terrorism had not really taken off at that point), dallas was. it would be interesting to see the protection in berlin and other places that may have been 'hotspots'.

I will get some specific numbers of secret serive etc when im back at college.

i should also point out that it was not greer who drove the motorcade in ireland.

fletcher prouty seems to state that it was highly important to have all the windows closed along the parade route, im sure this was probably given priority. I shall have a look into it, there are a few books on the irish trip and im sure one of them covers security.

aparently there was a red chocolate bar thrown on the bonnet of the motorcade car once (in florida if im not mistaken) and it was thought to be a stick of dynamite!

in robert grodens 'the killing of a president' there is a statitic for the probability of all the related deaths surrounding the assassination, im pretty sure its in the billions, i dont have it handy at the moment

the fact that the old tramp seems to hide from the photos would suggest that it is howard hunt as he is more likely to not wanting to be seen in the area with his background.

however i feel that a person would find it very hard to lie to their own daughter, especially on their death bed, in this case it would point to holt.

the same goes for when wim contacted shaun philips, i see no reason why he would lie about either what his father or uncle said, he has in no way tried to make money out of this so i dont see why he would lie.

the book that wim mentions 'the man on the grassy knoll' by john craig and philip rogers states that rogers knew harrelson when he was a freshman in hunstville rooming at a house owned by the oliphants, harrelson was a toddler at the time, harrelson could not remember him as he was a toddler. now the way the book was written is very confusing as it sites sources but has no footnotes and in places is written as if it were a work of fiction. perhaps the authors gathered some information and made assumptions and made links that may not have existed.

also stated in the book is the fact that david ferrie and rogers used the same ice rink to make and receive phone calls.

i think i shall read this book again as i did not fully take it in last time, partly due to my bamboozlement in the manner it was written. nevertheless some good information.

Of course, none of the other countries' receptions compared to Ireland. I named my eldest daughter with JFK's parting words about returning to dear "Shannon" in mind.

very nice tim, the area around the shannon is a very beautiful place. shannon airport is curently being used as a stopover for us troops on the way to iraq, it is also believed that it is a stopover for prisoners to guantanamo bay. i intend to have a closer look at jfks motorcade in ireland as there is a wealth of information in my college library on the topic. there is a story that a few cubans were overheard plotting to kill jfk in cork, im not sure if its a hoax or not. i emailed chris scally about it earlier this year and he seems to think its a hoax. the story is contained in the book 'the kennedy resurrection' by t.p. o mahony, an irish journalist. its a fabulous book, im not sure if he is still alive but i will try to contact him.

Here is a photo of jfks motorcade through the streets of Cork in early 1963. the follow up car in dallas was the car kennedy used in ireland.

I think nowadays we are less likely to get an inquiry into events sych as these, this is where broadcasters and producers come into the fold as they are likely to pay for studies to be done before they make a programme and should the programme be made this will cause public interest. it is imperative that documentaries be made about subjects such as these.
