John Navin
"Games management" -- I know it's "hunting & fishing" but, as a former resident of Nevada, the first thing that came to mind was, you know, the casino regulatory agencies. I wonder if the guy who mentioned "games" agents meant those who investigated Jack Ruby's gambling friends. I know it's wild, but this is one case where I try to keep an open mind. Hi John, No, I don't think they had anything to do with gambling games. The Fish & Game Commission was a sportsmans regulatory commission, and some of their men were in the TSBD immediately after the assassinaiton. I think we are narrowing it down as to who ran that org., and possibly who the guys were that were in the TSBD, though it doesn't seem anybody mentioned them in any reports or they filed any reports themselves, which makes them suspicious. The rundown on the gambling however, at least in Dallas, was probably the responsiblity of the vice squad, which like the intelligence division under Revell and Gannaway, probably came under the same Special Services Bureau. And as PDS points out, Gannaway's secretary was good friends with Ruby. BK

The transfer was made by W.S. Rainey and Bill Lewis of the Alcohol and Tax Unit in Marshall. Del Conde, who gained widespread publicity as the stateside “purchasing agent” for Castro’s 26th of July movement during its rise to power, had the cache of guns in his possession when he was arrested. He was later tried and sentenced by a Federal court for violation of the Federal Firearms Act. The guns were stored at Longhorn after his arrest. The guns were lightweight British-made Sten guns, a type of machine-gun used by guerilla units during World War II. Just a preliminary look. After reading Revill's testimony and mention of Gannaway and the Special Services Bureau, I would think that the "games management officers" [as opposed to "game officers"] might be part of the squad investigating gambling...possibly being pressed into duty supplementing the OTHER detectives in the DPD. I still think that may be a direction worth pursuing...and that the Fish and Game area might be a [pardon the pun] red herring.

This document lists a reference to Chesley Jones, Alcohol Tax Unit, on the same page is a reference to Roberrt Ray McKeown, gun runner figure, which is not exactly mutually exclusive to the previous article I posted. Not the reference to 1958, which is also the same period as the article. A word of caution, I doubt seriously you are going to find a document that references and Alcohol Tax Unit agent, or an agent of the Texas Game Management Agency as participating in the search of the Texas School Book Depository. If you get some type of confirmation of that fact, my prediction is that it will come via the same manner that the whole issue began through a policeman or media person who was actually there that day in the Depository; obviously just an opinion.
