The FIVE PM Scheduled Transfer of Lee Oswald

Recommended Posts

I just stumbled upon this article

by Peter Worthinton of the Toronto Telegraph,

who witnessed the shooting of Lee Oswald.

In Dallas I checked into the hotel -- I forget which one. I was exhausted and intended to sleep until the 5 p.m. advertised time of Oswald's transfer.

He also mentions that

The Toronto Star was there -- Rae Corelli, a street-wise, old-time reporter.

After describing the shooting, Worthington then goes on to say:

Unbeknownst to me, the rival Toronto Star was also looking at live TV coverage from Dallas and saw the Tely man, and wondered where their guy was. They phoned his hotel and woke him up. He still thought 5 p.m. was the moving time.

I do not recall reading or hearing

about a 5 PM advertised transfer time.

Does anyone have further information on this?

"Advertised"?

5pm on Sunday? Not that I've ever seen or heard....

A Change in Plans

The original plan had been for the sheriff to assume custody of Oswald at the city jail and handle the transfer. Late last night, for unspecified reasons, it was decided that the city police would move the prisoner.

Police Chief Jesse Curry declined to comment on suggestions that he had scheduled the transfer of Oswald at an unpropitious time because of pressure from news media.

Chief Curry announced about 9 o'clock last night that the investigation had reached a point where Oswald's presence was no longer needed. He said that Oswald would be turned over to the county sheriff today.

Asked when this would take place, the chief said: "If you fellows are here by 10 A.M., you'll be early enough."

When newsmen assembled at the police administrative offices at 10 o'clock, Chief Curry commented: "We could have done this earlier if I hadn't given you fellows that 10 o'clock time."

I know that a lot of people were expecting Oswald to be moved to the County Jail sometime in the late afternoon or early evening on Saturday (November 23), not Sunday.

Among those who expected Oswald to be moved on Saturday afternoon/evening was Dan Rather of CBS News, who says in the following video that he expected Oswald to be moved "at any time", and Rather is speaking live from Dealey Plaza at about 4 PM CST on Saturday, Nov. 23rd. Take the video up to 2:42:

Where was Jack Ruby around 4 PM on Saturday afternoon? Maybe he was "captured" in this video?

Tommy... thanks

Nice post... problem is I get nauseous every time I hear Rather talk about it....

He's a tool of the first order...

DVP - Why would "people" think that? Who/What from your understanding would have given them that impression?
