The Daily Beast, the KGB and Oliver Stone

By Max Holland in The Daily Beast

"Helping defeat Hillary Clinton is not the most successful influence operation Moscow has ever mounted against the United States. The most momentous, yes. But any covert activity that is exposed so rapidly and incites a backlash cannot be deemed an unalloyed accomplishment.

Moscow’s single most effective influence operation remains the one induced 50 years ago this month, when the now-defunct New Orleans States-Item published a front-page story on April 25, 1967, entitled “Mounting Evidence Links CIA to ‘Plot’ Probe.” It was an operation that culminated in an unimaginable achievement—inclusion in a Hollywood blockbuster by Oliver Stone that contends the CIA was instrumental in JFK's assassination."

Yes, the "left-wing" The Daily Beast does its duty.

Holland continues to act like he debunked the entire JFK case with his so-called discovery that the Paesa Sara article on Clay Shaw was “Russian propaganda”. If I recall, the evidence for that connection is pretty tenuous, and even if it is true, that hardly immediately discredits the actual information in the article about Shaw. The KGB may have leaked legitimate intel that was spiced up to make the US look bad, or something along those lines.

Holland’s ongoing hard-on for this is a joke. It’s so insignificant, and so inconsequential to Garrison’s investigation that by repeating it over and over Holland has become guilty of propaganda himself. The goal is to link “JFK conspiracy theories” with getting duped by the Russians, and Holland tries to make that connection every chance he can get.

The Max Holland bit was a pile of malarkey in all aspects.

Especially that the FBI had checked out Shaw and he was not Bertrand.  Plus the fact that Garrison arrested Shaw before the story came out. So how could the arrest have been caused by the Italian article?  You would have thought the editors would have asked Max that one.

The truth is Garrison had been investigating Shaw since December of 1966.  The FBI investigated Shaw back in  1963, and by the time Garrison arrested him they knew he was Bertrand.

There was a debate over this between Max Holland and Gary Aguilar in Washington where Gary exposed Holland for using Richard Helms as a source.  Evidently, The Daily  Beast was Ok with that also.

Gary did a nice job filling in for me on this debate with Max over his KGB BS.

"Helping defeat Hillary Clinton is not the most successful influence operation Moscow has ever mounted against the United States. . . ."

Eee-gads, I hope Holland now realizes that this tale has been utterly destroyed. I realize he wrote this in 2018, before the Mueller Report was published and before the Durham discoveries began to emerge. To their credit, Mueller and his staff acknowledged that the small amount of Russian-backed blogging/ads about the election were substantially split between Trump and Hillary: many were anti-Hillary, but some were anti-Trump.
