The above three names are of special interest to me, and I have been trying to assertain their whereabouts on the day. I know that Lemnitzer was in Germany, but I hope that members can help me be a bit more specific. One report has Lemay attending the Bethesda autopsy, standing at the back smoking a cheroot, but I now forget where I read this, and can find no official documents that support this. As far as I know, JCS Chairman Max Taylor was in a meeting with foreign delegates at the Pentagon. Air Force Chief Curtis LeMay was apparently in Michigan visiting relatives. I'm unsure about Earle Wheeler, David McDonald and David Shoup. They might have been with Maxwell Taylor at the Pentagon. I'm sure Forum members can help with further info. You know, it's been suggested that the man photographed walking past the tramps in Dealey Plaza has a resemblance to General Maxwell Taylor. William Kelly Posted March 10, 2006 Share Posted March 10, 2006 According to the Andrews Air Force Base Log of November 22, 1963, which was retrieved from the trash and preserved by the Assassination Records Review Board, LeMay was in Canada at the time of the assassination and returned via USAF SAC to Andrews, so he was in DC at the time of the autopsy. I'm sure Forum members can help with further info. There is a recently published biography David M. Shoup, by Howard Jablon. I've been wanting to see it to find out if it says where Shoup was on 11/22/63. I haven't ordered it, sight unseen, because it's $35 and only 168 pages, which seems mighty short for a biography. The University of Florida has a copy of the book. I was there today and walked across almost the entire campus to get to the library holding it, only to find out that the library is closed till May for renovation. I can't help but think that this was done just to keep me out. If it were found that Shoup or any other of the JCS besides LeMay was not present for a Pentagon meeting with German officials on 11/22, I think that would pretty well shoot down the official story, making it a cover story for the whereabouts, I would suspect, of Maxwell Taylor. Mark, As for the Andrews Tower Log - the ARRB obtained the hard bound ledger log from Andrews, which was said to have been retrieved from the trash dumpster by one Chuck Holmes, who saw a tv show about the ARRB and their quest for JFK assassination records. When I was at the NARA I requested the ledger, photocopied the 9 pages of text, and retyped the handwritten notations as best I could. This log, which appears NOT to be an official Andrews Tower Log because it makes no mention of all the other air traffic that day, and also includes a few pages of log notations for when they flew the body of RFK to Andrews from California. It is very peculiar that this log only has references to those two incidences, years apart, and there was an attempt to dispose of it, an obvious historical record. I tried to locate Chuck Holmes, who reportedly still works at Andrews, to learn more, but haven't hooked up with him yet. I wanted to give him a medal for saving such an artifact. The references to LeMay are the fact that at the time of the assassination he was Canada, possibly in the air between Toronto and Wairton, from where he departs for Andrews 1625 - (4:25pm). I don't know what all the abrivations mean. The document lists bizarre, yet ruthless plans to provoke, harass or disrupt the Castro Government. On March 13, Graig sends another memo, which duplicates some of operation Northwoods, the same day as Lemnitzer presented the full plans to McNamara, an hour later Lemnitzer met with Kennedys Military representative Gem Maxwell Taylor. What happened during the meetings is unknown, but three days later JFK, told Lemnitzer that there was virtually no chance that the US would ever use military force in Cuba. Within months Lemnitzer would be denied another term as Chairman of the JCS, and was transferred to another job. Now just suppose someone asked Brig Gen Graig to direct his talents for black ops in another direction...Perhaps utilising men loyal to Gen Walker. The above three names are of special interest to me, and I have been trying to assertain their whereabouts on the day. I know that Lemnitzer was in Germany, but I hope that members can help me be a bit more specific. One report has Lemay attending the Bethesda autopsy, standing at the back smoking a cheroot, but I now forget where I read this, and can find no official documents that support this. Any help from the esteemed faculty here will be much appreciated..Steve. I don't know where I read it, but I too remember reading about Lemay at Kennedy's autopsy, smoking a cigar.
