Standing Ovation
For
Lovely Lady
A standout
in a City
Where girls
Are notoriosuly pretty
8:25AM BST 20 May 2011
It was the warmest reaction yet
and a significant moment in what has been
the first visit by a British monarch to Ireland for a century.
Gay Byrne, who compered the evening, told the 2,000–strong audience
You have been present
For a historic moment
Remember it
The visit of the Queenand the Duke of Edinburgh
will conclude today with a tour of the Rock of Cashel
a collection of medieval buildings that are a big draw
for visitors to the Republic
The Royal couple's state visit to Ireland has been hailed
as a spectacular diplomatic triumph.
David Cameron, the Prime Minister
who had talks with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny yesterday
said the visit and the Queen's momentous speech in Dublin Castle
had struck a chord with people in the Republic.

Mr Cameron said
The decision to lay wreaths in memory of the men and women
who fought for Irish independence
and the 49,000 Irish soldiers killed in the First World War
provoked a response on the streets of Dublin
way beyond Buckingham Palace's wildest dreams
A palace spokeswoman said
the Queen and Duke have been delighted
by the welcome they have received
The mood is very buoyant in the household
The visit will be in the Queen's mind
for a very long time when she returns home
she said.
Later the royal couple will travel to Cork
where they will tour the popular English Market
a major feature of the city since the 18th century.
It houses a range of stalls selling meat
seafood, cheeses and many other foods
and showcases the best in Irish produce.
The Royals will also tour the Tyndall National Institute

Her Majesty called to quote Trollope
The Irish people did not
murder me
nor even break
my head
Trollope said
I soon found them
to be
good humoured
And clever
the working classes
very much more intelligent
than those of England
economical and hospitable
I then had the
UNMITIGATED GALL

Johnny McEvoy's first big break came in late 1966 when he recorded
Mursheen Durkin
an old ballad from the west of Ireland
It topped the charts at Number 1
for three consecutive weeks
It was followed by
The Boston Burglar
which also reached No 1
in the charts.
In 1966 in Dublin City
he was a support act
to a then-up and coming band
he Rolling Stones
His first tour to the U.S. was in 1967
highlighted by a concert
at New York City's Carnegie Hall
It was at this stage he had his third
Number 1 Hit
with the song
Nora
a version of
When You and I Were Young, Maggie)
from Sean O'Casey's play
The Plough And The Stars.
Later Johnny formed a band in the 1970s
He wrote his first song
Long Before Your Time.
It too reached Number 1
He went on to write numerous more songs
many of which have become standards
Long Before Your Time
Michael
Going To California
The Ballad Of John Williams
Richman's Garden
Never Learned To Dance
and
The Ballad of Anne Frank
The Ballad of John Williams

Those who have been following this thread will know
That there is nothing wildly surprising
At our finding visual confirmation
Of Oswald's presence at the front entrance.
I got to know Larry Ray Harris
Not long before he died,
And I got to know Harold Weisberg
Over a good stretch of time.
I feel safe in saying that
these Gentlemen,
And stress the word,
Would be very proud
Of Sean Murpheee!

I love these scenarios being kicked around here
Lots of knowledgeable creative thinking
From what I see
There were no shots ever fired
From the TSBD
And no need for conspirators to hang around
Except to keep an eye on the movements
Of Prayer Man
To see how they could pin another murder
On him.
But seemingly everyone here agrees
He was involved in a conspiracy
To frame himself.
Someone is missing something....

Shouldn't this all be on the Irish Songs forum instead of the JFK Assassination forum?
All our wars were merry
And all our songs were sad,
But not all our our songs
Are Irish,
No more than our wars
