David, I'm wondering if you have ever read anything about a second set of tramps being found in a grain car South of the triple underpass about an hour and a half after the assassination.  This may have been hashed out and debunked on the forum before, if so, you or anyone please direct me there.  What I read on line 4-5 years ago was about after the search of the railroad yard was deemed complete 1:30-2:00 lee Bowers was allowed to release a train headed Southbound (towards Reunion Arena now).  As it proceeded South over the triple underpass and beyond Bowers noticed men run to it and jump on a grain car from the East side of the tracks, South of the triple underpass, near the West end of the Postal Annex building and it's parking lot.  He stopped the train, called the police back, told them which car.  Three men found hunkerd down/dug in to the grain in an open topped car, only observable from above.  The really intriguing part was police reports supporting the story.  Wish I could remember where I read this, relatively sure I didn't dream it and I'm not making it up.

Apologies David.  I was fishing last night.  Hoping you might answer but using you as bait also that someone else might bite if not.  I'm somewhat embarrassed to reveal the source my post is based on and hoped someone else might.  Mr. Caddy linked it on the forum at the time it came out on.  The one post to his link by Tom Hume was to reply this is not related to his thread of the same name.

The book The Oswald Code by AJ Weberman is junk.  Yes, that Bob Dylan dumpster diving Weberman  (a real researcher, unlike me, in an e-mail, called him a "kook").   The book has no table of contents, source notes, end notes, appendix, index, nothing.  It is jumbled, jumps back and forth about Gerry Patrick Hemming said this to he said that with comments from Sturgis/Fiorini thrown in randomly.  I bought the book based on information on the website about it, and, Weberman being  co author of coup DeEtat in America from 1975.  When I read the on line version of That book in the 2000's I thought it was revolutionary for it's implications of the CIA at the time of it's publication.  I've read it was inspirational to Henry Gonzalez in his pursuit of the establishment of the House Sub Committee on Assassinations.

The website for the book "The Oswald Code" provides more relevant information, more cohesively presented than the book.  But you have to look for it even there.

Scroll down to the "Second Three Tramps Detained".

The  Sheriff Deputy Elkins deposition on 11/26/63, the statements of officers  Roy Vaughn and Marvin Wise to the HSCA support the dispatcher recorded time of 1:56-1:58 of being sent to or alerted of the end of Shorecrest Drive/ down by Union Station (location of Reunion Arena now).  1:00-2:00, 2:30 is mentioned as well as a mile, half mile, 300-400, 700 yards South of the rail yard, Bowers control tower, the triple overpass are all mentioned.

I'd Almost say in spite of the source the information it's worthy of consideration.

Going to say this just one more time; locate and read Prouty's extended interview with the ARRB in terms of his remarks about Dallas, about the "stand down" and other related topics.  It will give you the needed context to evaluate this aspect of the tramps discussion.

I googled Fletcher Prouty, ARRB and Fletcher Prouty Assassinations Records Review Board, got box 5 of ___ files (left name at work), no way to access.  Have not tried to look at MFF.  Any ideas where to look?  Not Trying to be a pest, curious about the "needed context".  Grin, RB.

The three "tramps" in DP were indeed let go by Decker while the three records of arrest for Gedney, Abrams and Doyle refer to three other people who spent a couple days in Jail that weekend...  the 2 separate stories of the two sets of tramps leads me to the question - why parade these three thru DP at all and why lie about who the DPD personnel were?

Ofc Harkness is the only one who acknowledges more than just those three were taken from the trains that day - last paragraph

And neither Bush or Chambers recalls being involved with these three reports that weekend - I believe they were created and found well after the fact...

  4. To summarize from "Mary's Mosaic" starting on pg. 169.  1942, Cord graduates early with Yale's highest honor (skull & bones too?).  Enlists in Marine Corps OCS, looses eye and brother in WWII.  1945, chosen to be an aide to former Minnesota Governor Harold Stassen, delegate to the San Francisco conference to establish the United Nations. Wife Mary went to report for UPI.  JFK had met her as a teenager at a dance.  He was covering the event as a reporter for the Chicago Herald-American.  Purportedly JFK was still infatuated with Mary and Cord took offense.  Small world for Ivy leaguers.  Pg. 172 "Realizing Cord's position as a principal liaison to U.S. delegate Harold Stassen, Jack wanted to interview him for one of his press filings, but Cord snubbed him, declining the invitation.  Jack never forgot the dismissal; years later, when Cord wanted out of the CIA and solicited Kennedy for the ambassadorship to Guatemala, the President ignored him".

Pg. 191.  1967.  "Ramparts magazine would expose Cord as director of the CIA's notorious Operation Mockingbird... During the 1950's, an estimated three thousand salaried and contract employees were engaged in propaganda efforts."  ...Phillip Graham - WaPo...  "Under Cord's tutelage, Mockingbird became a stunning success.  Whenever the CIA wanted a news story slanted in a particular direction, it got it.  This amounted to subversion of democracy's most precious cornerstone, the free press.  Secretly controlling the media had proven to be one of the CIA's most powerful tools.  The agency didn't take kindly to being found out."

Note:  Pg. 340. Paraphrase, author Peter Janney's dad, co worker Wistar Janney, high level employee of the CIA since it's inception, old friend of Cord Meyer called to inform him of his wife's death.  Peter thinks his dad knew about her death before it happened.

Prior to Hunt's deathbed "confession", the only thing I had ever heard about Cord Meyer concerning  the Kennedy assassination was his response in his later life when asked who killed his ex-wife and he purportedly said "the same people who killed Kennedy". The first I had ever heard of his direct involvement was from Hunt.

Regarding the latter, some speculate the CIA killed his ex wife.  Was this in a sense a confession on his part?  His statement makes me think of Angleton, "A mansion has ???, but I'm not privy to who shot John".  Regarding the first part, I guess I've never fully read Hunt's death bed confession, I know not the son's book.  I didn't know he mentioned Meyer in the confession.

The FBI asked the Dallas PD to send them the rifle found on the sixth floor TSBD so they could check for fingerprints. When the FBI sent back the rifle they sent the rifle used in the shooting and kept the rifle found on the sixth floor TSBD.

Assuming no one destroyed the rifle found on the sixth floor TSBD it could very well have ended up in Italy taken there by US agents looking for information on the rifle.

A team of CIA agents per the first post went to Italy, took A rifle with them to inspect the factory, then they ran off and left it there, in a corner.  Excuse my skepticism.  The one that Oswald ordered (not)?  It would still supposedly (if he ever ordered it, much less picked it up) be evidence they were taking off to Europe and then leaving behind.  Of course they didn't need it as the Warren Omission already had one for the record.  Why bother deep sixing or destroying this one?  Has anyone ever seen any mention of this trip in the WC Report?

For some reason the first time I read the first post in this thread I thought of Bonar Menninger, Mortal Error, The Smoking Gun.

  7. So many books, not just on JFK-RFK-MLK I'd like to have time to read, properly and not just skim, videos to watch.  Just started finally on JFK and Vietnam.  Survivors Guilt floored me.  I'd think this would only supplement it.  Survivors Guilt left me suspicious.  That Mr. Palamara  may have hinted at but left unsaid...  That, one of the top two, three (?) SSA's in Dallas knew in advance that at least a security "test" was to happen that day.  That they may have participated in the test at the time it happened, others unwittingly.  That a high level SSA or two back in Washington may have had knowledge of the test, and participated.  Approved by who?  That some, knowingly, in advance, compromised the security of the President.  Why a test in rabid right wing Dallas of all places?

  8. This was almost funny at first.  Something was lost in the translation though.  The Corsican CIA hit team supervised by Paul Harvey left the Real assassination weapon, ordered by Jack Ruby and given to Oswald, in a Catholic Church in Italy and given to a museum in 2017?

I wasn't trying to be funny if anyone took it that way.

  9. Hunt may have had a personal reason for calling Meyer an SOB.  At the same time if memory serves I remember reading somewhere, most likely in Mary's Mosaic, that Meyer could at least at times have a bit of a condescending attitude.  I recall an example, an occasion after work or at a dinner party where Meyer had a few drinks, someone said something he disagreed with and he dressed them down quite heartily in front of the crowd.

But as far as getting away scot free, I guess that was always pretty much in the bag.

Morales, not necessarily by name, was mentioned during the Garrison inquiry (as The Big Indian) from JM/WAVE and also during Gaeton Fonzi's work on activities at JM/WAVE. Fonzi's interest ultimately led to Bob Dorff connecting with a military trainer who had worked at JM/WAVE and who knew the man by name.  However the HSCA had nothing definite and you need to remember that is SOP not to name CIA officers outside the highest ranks in DC nor officially acknowledge their connection to the Agency.  Today we know so many names we take it for granted but that was not the case back in the seventies or even later up into the nineties.

It should be noted that Morales exaggerated on occasion, while he was involved in the project to get Che, it was Felix Rodriquez who was on site and came up with Che's watch. However there is no doubt Morales hated JFK and felt it was a security risk.  As to his being in Dallas, impossible to say although there are records showing him to be in Miami and actually involved in a major project to exfiltrate Castro's sister out of Cuba as of that date. His chief operations man, Rip Robertson, would be the more likely candidate to be in Dallas although its unlikely we will ever know for sure.  I have no doubt he enjoyed the results, wherever he was.

As to his death, given that Roselli was beginning to drop some names and that did get back to Miami, its certainly possible that someone thought Morales should be gone...

Then you don't think he was there when Rodriguez took the watch off Che's dead arm...

More seriously, looking for info on another post I came across Tony Soforza  dying of a heart attack six months after Morales heart attack.  I don't know anything about Tony.  Do you?  Would you be willing to share...

  12. A post about the film The American Media and the Second Assassination of JFK being shown in London on another thread

in conjunction with reading somewhere also in the last couple of weeks that Cord Meyer was the head of Operation Mockingbird at the time of JFK's assassination it jolted my thoughts.  I had never considered the role he might have played in the cover up from the perspective of his being in that position.  Working for Helms and Angleton (and still loyal to Dulles?) .  The former (still bitter?) husband of JFK's last known paramour tells the National press what it should and shouldn't publish about the assassination through personal contact's and his emissaries in the cia.  The thought begs a little delving.

So I searched the site for him and came up with this 12/5 year old thread.  Not long but historically interesting.  Started by Mr. Simkin.  Commented on by knowledgeable persons.  Abandoned, brought back in 09 by Bill Kelly, abandoned again.  Hijacked in 12.

Interesting to note it was all written before Mary's Mosaic came out.  Some of the conclusions/assumptions are questionable in light of it.  Though I realize skulley thoroughly destroyed some aspects of the book afterward.

Cord wrote a book about himself.  He could be worthy of a book by an objective author as well.

Perhaps the subject of a dissertation by some young upcoming political science historian?

You will never see this kind of info in the MSM. So let us hope this gets out.

Just read the text of the interview.  I'm enlightened further.  Thank you.  I recommend reading or listening to the full interview to anyone interested in learning about our history.

In terms of "not very honorable reporters" Sheridan is discussed.  In one of your books I believe you detail his renting a house to provide food, booze and a daily breakdown of that day's testimony as well as a brief on the next day's, both skewed to his viewpoint, for other out of town reporters.  His assistance by man on the spot on 11/22/63 Hugh Aynesworth is neglected for brevity I'd guess.

I've never read of JFK's evacuation plan for Vietnam over worries Hanoi would take over before late 1965.  Interesting.

Any idea where one might actually see the New York Times ad regarding Case Closed that defames Marrs, Stone, Garrison, Groden and Lifton as "guilty of misleading the American public"?  That's a interesting sounding historical visual, one that might stimulate readership here and at K & K.

Here's a relevant 10 year old thread I found on Sheridan, thanks Mr. Simkin and others.

I understand. However I wanted to highlight Eisenhower's role in Vietnam since it seems historians, except for a few, give him a pass on Vietnam.

IMHO, Eisenhower and Allen Dulles are partners-in-crime. Many on this forum think that's baloney but it's a fact. Kinzer doesn't spare Ike and I feel his work, "The Brothers" is a valuable contribution to our understanding of Eisenhower's administration, especially foreign affairs.

I should probably read the reviews at amazon for perspective before posting but I thought I'd read somewhere (maybe on this site?) that "The Brothers" gives Allen and John Foster at least somewhat of a fawning treatment.  Not that this would necessarily preclude it from still being informative.

Ron, I had never read up on the details of Bill Sullivan's murder before reading the links you provide.

    What a ridiculously unprofessional investigation.

Bill Sullivan is running around outside "by himself" between 6:am and 6:30 am. ?

So is the third party of his planned group hunt but no one knows how close or far away he was from Sullivan during the time he was shot?

A rifle shot is loud, even if this third party were a mile away he would have clearly heard this. Especially at that quiet early morning time.

Third party police Chief Young is asleep in bed at this time ?

How much sunlight is there in New Hampshire at that early morning time and at that time of year?

Do hunters shoot at deer in the dark?

Did they use night vision googles back then?

Since the supposed young hunter who fired at Sullivan couldn't carry him more than 15 yards, couldn't he instead have driven his truck to Sullivan's body?

Since the young shooter claimed to have tried to perform CPR on Sullivan and the wound was in the neck which probably meant a decent amount of blood there or even around or even in Sullivan's mouth, did the young shooter have much blood around his face or clothing next to his face which one would expect in that specific wound area / CPR performing circumstance?

No, night vision goggles were either not invented back then or at least not available to hunters or the general public otherwise.  No, I, as a hunter earlier in life since the age of 14 have never shot at a deer in the dark.   That was not an issue in the statements.  They say it was after daylight, that is questionable.  New England, 6-6:30 AM in November?   I was not the 22 year old son of a state trooper (but was of a military veteran) but I was taught to not shoot at anything you could not clearly identify as a deer clearly enough to see where you wanted to place your shot.

I think I'll order this in the morning for perspective on Sullivan himself.

This is interesting too, even considering the source.

    http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/sullivan.htm

It makes me wonder.  The 22 year old son of a state trooper went straight to the nearby Chief of Police's house and walked into his bedroom.  Chief Gary Young "I woke up to a disturbance in my bedroom, a Young Boy."

"saw a motion through my scope,  I saw brown, I saw a flicker of white, I'm Not Sure What It Really Was, it moved I squeezed my trigger.  Cardinal rule of hunting, you don't shoot without a clear shot you can identify exactly what you are shooting and Where you want to place your shot.  22 year old experienced hunter son of a state trooper would know this.

From Hit List, pg. 207 "During the year before the accident I saw about fifteen or twenty deer," he said.  "I didn't shoot at any of them because I didn't think it was the right shooting time.  I consider myself a sportsman, not a person who goes out to kill as many deer as he can". 587.

Further in his statement, "dragged him out of the woods and (then) started CPR, drove to Gary Young's house. I got him out of bed.  He made the necessary phone calls.  A bit of a caviler end to a brief statement.  $500 fine, no hunting license for 10 years.

Sullivan, as former chief of Division Five, investigator of the JFK assassination was forced to resign by Hoover.

"The main figure in the FBI involved in the Executive Action program"

'William Sullivan's goal was to testify before the public HSCA hearings and lay his cards on the table, so to speak. (by)  'Veteran CIA officer Leutrell Osbourene, also investigated the matter."

"He told his friend Robert Novak, Someday you will read I have been killed in an accident, but don't believe it; I've been murdered"

Autopsy says shot in the throat, a lucky accident?  The smallest primary target on a human torso.  Elsewhere said in the back.

To paraphrase another FBI agent,  He was a knowledgeable experienced hunter, (not to mention an experienced intelligence operative), who would not have exposed himself that way.

Yes, it made a lot of careers.  And not just Rather's.

For example, Peter Jennnings was also a reporter on the JFK case when he was up in Canada.

I have come to believe in the whole Hallin's Spheres, view of our MSM, which I alluded to in my  Powerpoint presentation on Vietnam.  Except that, as I believe happened with Vietnam, that was a subject that eventually did penetrate into the MSM, simply because LBJ and RMN allowed saturation press coverage of the war.  Later on, with Iraq, the Power Elite learned their lesson, and there was only controlled junkets allowed.  And, as some people have written, journalists who tried to break that rule were targeted, quite literally.

On the JFK case, after 1967, with the double hit by CBS and NBC in primetime, it was hard to get any fair coverage in the MSM on the JFK case.  Which was not the case before. Therefore, the avenue for prominence on the left was the Vietnam War. I mean when you can get 500,000 people in Washington, that is quite an audience.  And it happened twice.

IMO, Chomsky and the late Alex Cockburn made a practical choice. And it worked for them.  But for me it stripped them of any kind of intellectual or moral stature.  Which is usually the trademark of left/liberal writing.

Which is why I respect Mike Parenti and not those guys.

"The power elite learned their lesson"  Yes Sir they did.  They bought up the rest of the Press.  While Operation Mockingbird heavily influenced the National Press most mid and smaller market newspapers and TV stations were owned by local millionaires or less at the time.  The bigger MSM picture of today makes me consider how ownership of it all by half a dozen corporations (e.g. Disney) by the .01% of us influences current perceptions/interpretations of previous events.
