I very much doubt it seeing as how it was released by the Irish DOJ and the Galvin story has been around for a number of years.

The story of the phone-in warning to the Cork examiner is covered in Irish Journalist T.P. O'Mahony's book 'The Kennedy Restoration'. The story is given little credibility.

If Bill Kelly is reading this, this is the book that I gave you in June of this year at the American University.

I'm currently looking to see if the documents are online or if there is any way to get a hold of them.

Studying the photographs and documents of JFK's trip to Ireland show the tight security along the parade route in comparison with Dallas.

Sniper threat sparked alert during 1963 Kennedy visit

A tip-off about a plot to assassinate John F Kennedy with a sniper rifle during his visit as US president to Ireland in June 1963 sparked a massive security alert, with heavily armed Garda reinforcements escorting his motorcade after arrival at Dublin airport. Stephen Collins , Political Editor, reports.

The alert began in the early hours of June 22nd, five days before the US president was due to arrive, when a man rang Independent Newspapers claiming a sniper using a rifle fitted with a telescopic sight intended to kill him.

According to a Department of Justice file in the National Archives released today, gardaí arrived at a telephone kiosk at the junction of College Green and Westmoreland Street, from which the call had been made, within two to three minutes.

A Garda report said the caller must have left in a hurry because they saw nobody in the kiosk or in the vicinity. The man had sought payment for information about the claimed assassination plan.

He said the shot would be fired from a flat roof on the president's route between Dublin airport and the US ambassador's residence in the Phoenix Park.

Although gardaí suspected it could be a hoax, extra precautions were taken and a memo was sent to all stations, the Central Detective Unit and the Special Branch. "All roofs on the route to Dublin airport were scanned by members with binoculars travelling in the advance and escort cars," Garda commissioner Daniel Costigan reported.

"A rifle as well as Thompson guns and revolvers were carried for use against a possible sniper," he added.

President Kennedy was shot dead by a sniper in Dallas, Texas, five months later.

The newly released files, which have been withheld for well in excess of the normal 30 years, detail the extensive precautions that were taken in the weeks leading up to his visit. An advance party of US Secret Service agents, White House special detail agents and a CIA man from London took part in the planning.

They told Mr Costigan that they would not tolerate plans by NBC to put a television vehicle within 50 or 100 feet of the presidential car. All that was allowed was a motorised float travelling a reasonable distance ahead, carrying equipment for RTÉ and approved US TV companies.

The files also show that plans to make Mr Kennedy an honorary Irish citizen were scrapped after extensive behind-the-scenes consultations.

The awarding of the honour was to have been one of the high points of the president's four-day visit to Ireland but Irish and American officials raised so many legal difficulties that the plan was abandoned.

Paul Wallace was a middle-man who arranged corrupt government contracts in the United States. A bit like the role Bobby Baker played in 1963. However, rumours had been circulating that his activities were being investigated by Seymour Hersh.

On the morning of 15th December, Wallace had arranged for meetings with three men (Carl Quintero, Rafael Jenkins and Malcolm Helliwell) who were working unofficially for multinational companies involved in the arms industry who were all anxious to obtain a proposed multi-billion defence contract from the US government.

The three men arrived between 9.00 and 9.30. They waited in Wallace’s outer office with his secretary, Marita Lorenz. At 9.30 Lorenz entered Wallace’s main office. She came out at 9.40 and said that Wallace wished to see Quintero.

Quintero came out of Wallace’s office at 10.15. He said that Wallace had to look up some information and would call in Jenkins as soon as he was ready.

At 10.18 a shot rang out from Wallace’s office. The secretary and the three men immediately rushed in and discovered Wallace had been shot in the right side of his head. He was lying dead on his desk. By his right hand was a Tokarev, a 7.62-mm Russian automatic.

The police arrived at 10.35. As Wallace’s office was on the 27th floor and the only access to the room was via the outer office, it did not take them long to decide it was a case of suicide.

In fact, Carl Quintero had committed the perfect murder. How did he do it?

Quintero had been trained in hypnotism by stage hypnotist, Will DeMur. DeMur had been hired by CONTROL for its top secret program, MC/HAMMER.

Upon entering the room, Quintero placed Wallace under a hypnotic trance and put the gun on the desk. He then implanted the post-hypnotic suggestion that Wallace look up certain information, and and that, upon reading specified key words, he would pick up the gun, point it at his head and fire. He further implanted the suggestion that the gun was not loaded - thus circumventing the problem of the will to live effectively overcoming the subconcious impulse to obey the implanted orders.

Is this correct John? Stephens guess was also the best that I could think of. If this is right, Mr.Quintero was a very talented individual.

One is reminded of the Phil Ochs lyric, "although it isn't really war, we're sending fifty thousand more, to help save Vietnam from Vietnamese".

Indeed the news that Bush wishes to increase the number of troops in Iraq poses several questions. Where will these troops come from? Will they be existing reservists, conscripted teenagers, outside contractors or immigrants fighting for a greencard?

What will the reaction be in the CIA? Some elements of the CIA and large portions of career military men are unhappy with the fact that Bush plans to stay for the long haul.

Of course this was always to be the plan, but people envisaged it in considerably differing circumstances. The fact that Bush faces no more elections and is likely to be supported by a majority of Republicans and a sufficient minority of democrats in sending more troops means that he still has a free hand in Iraq. His intentions in hiring Gates are still not evident, given that it seemed likely that Gates would not support an increase in troop numbers.

I wrote earlier that I had engaged in a stand-off of sorts on the Wikiedpia site before. My most lenghty one was on the Lee Harvey Oswald page. Every time that I changed the page, the user Gamaliel, as mentioned above by daniel Brandt, changed it back to his original article. This went on for a month or so.

I don't have as much free time anymore so I can't dedicate myself to constantly changing the Oswald page, Gamiliel has the time and spends it editing other people corrections to his work.

The article lacks neutrality and is full of non-factual assertions "he became an ardent Marxist solely from reading about the topic." Matters of opinion of the author are expressed as fact, which as we all know, is not the mandate of an encycldpedia.

I agree with Bill's assessment of Wikipedia as a tool for lazy students. That is exactly what it is. If I were to cite Wikipedia as a source for an essay in College I would immediately be failed, no questions asked.

I see no problem with linking or citing from spartaucs, given that everything that John puts up is footnoted and reference from published works or is a dirct quote from the person concerned.

We have already discussed the problems with google and intelligence agencies, Wikipedia is just as susceptable to this kind of manipulation.

To think that 5,000 words of script on Wikipedia could satisfy years of debate is folly, the existence of a page on the Kennedy assassination is simpy asking for amateur manipulation.

Historical events such as the invasion of 1066 seem to draw more scholarly types to write them, some being school history teachers, however, topics such as the JFK assassination naturally attract those that think highly of themselves and have no real expertise in the matter. I have seen, and indeed been involved in, information struggles on Wikipedia. The only method of stopping such feuds is to lock the article, to suspend an involved party or to deem a source unreliable. No other recourse can be used as there is no settlement available.

There has been no concerted effort to present both sides of the case side by side in a much larger article, as I presume Wikipedia would prefer a more concise account, given that it models itself upon encyclopedias and targets lazy students. No satisfaction will be derived frm this article unless a full account is written by many people, which could run into a piece as long as the warren commission itself.

This week I'm bogged down with assignments for College, typing thousands of words a day, next week I will get to work on a project that I have been putting off since the summer, a full and frank appraisal and defecne (where needs be) of Cynthia McKinney. It will include media treatment of her, the capitol hill police officer incident, the 2002,2006 elections, her work on MLK records Act, support of the JFK community, why the much ridiculed Tupac Shakur records act matters, allegations of racism against her, the racism directed towards her, those in the media that directly target her, the importance of her impeachment legislation, her stance on 9/11 and stance against Bush and do nothing democrats and also her importance as a leader in the black community.

It may take a while, but I want to write something definitive than I can constantly reference instead of having to give indivdual rebuttals anytime somebody ridicules or levels an accusation against her.

I look forward to writing it and I hope that some of you will take the time to read it and see what a really balanced view of Cynthia McKiney really looks like.

I am well aware at the accusations levelled at Cynthia McKinney of late, in fact I was in the eye of the storm. I worked for Cynthia McKinney this summer as an intern.

The actual facts surrounding the capitol hill cop incident are known only to a grand jury, who exhonorated her. The media report that she did hit the police officer, yet the grand jury was the only body presented with the actual evidence in the case, the media heard the rumour and turned it into fact.

I was also in Georgia during the primary campaign. Let me assure you that the results of that were far from honestly gained. In 2002 thousands of Republican voters crossed over and voted in the democrat primary to unseat McKinney. She won her seat back in 2004 as the Republican minority were voting in the Republican presidential primary and so could not afford to vote against mcKinney once again. The same underhanded tactics were emplyoed in 2006 to unseat her. See my post in response to John Gillespies allegations in the MLK forum.

Like they say, don't believe what you read in the papers.

I have done my own research into Cynthia McKinney and let me say that the media portrayal of her is a travesty.

I'm not British by the way, I'm Irish, but I won't hold that against you!

I have started a new blog in an effort to highlight the Impeachment proceedings started by Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.

Although the bill would not pass in a Republican controled Congress, it could serve as a rallying point around which many could show their support for impeachment proceedings and to send a message to Nancy Pelosi that it is not in her political best interests to go against the tide and to vote in the best interests of citizens of the United States.

Here is the blog. I would appreciate input. I am trying to spread the blog as widely and as quickly as possible to ensure that these impeachment proceedings stay in the news and in the publics minds, this can best be done through an active internet campaign in concert with the efforts taking place tomorrow during international human rights day, during which many will hold impeachment marches in defiance of George Bush's administrations hideous recod on human rights.

It has been announced that the BBC is working on a documentary on the death of David Kelly. However, don't expect the documentary to suggest a conspiracy. The BBC has requested an inflation-beaten licence fee rise. The decision will be made at around the time the documentary is due to be broadcast.
