Jack White
With postings no longer in chronological order, It is impossible to know what has been read and what has not been read, or what the latest postings are. I have better ways to spend my time than fool with searching topics. Jack

John Dugan
 seems the same as always for me. I wish they would get rid of the Important Topics - Pinned, those could be condensed.

David Andrews
Jack, experiment with different Display Modes under the Options button at right, near first post. Mine changed without warning one day, but it's fixable.

Mine changed without warning one day, but it's fixable. THANKS, DAVID! I was not aware of that! It changed without my knowledge. I reset it to STANDARD. William Kelly
Question for Andy, Would it be possible to take the entire Education Forum to the new format EXCEPT the JFK Assassination Debate and Political Conspiracies sections, and let them stay in the old format, allowing the further separate development of both? Guest Tom Scully
Bill, This board is an off the shelf product. http://www.invisionboard.com Comparison of Internet forum software (PHP): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of...tware_%28PHP%29 Periodically, existing versions like the current Edu forum become obsolete and are no longer supported with bug fixes and security updates. Top shelf forum OS like VBulletin, and major free OS like http://www.simplemachines.org and http://www.phpbb.com permit migration of the existing database from a major, competing OS into their own new Forum OS installation. No forum OS software, to my knowledge, would include the flexibility to do what you are asking. The only options are to migrate all existing data on this entire forum (Most likely it has to be backed up into one large, compressed file) to a current, supported generation of invisionboard, or to a competing OS that offers invisionboard to VBulletin or to phpbb, via a data migration program offered by the competitor. The pages served up in this forum are dynamic. They come into existence only when you request them by clicking on a link and viewing a page or by creating a new post or thread. All of the information you see on a page has come from mysql "tables," compartmentalized lists broken down by user name, user permissions, topic, content of each post.....on a board this size, there are many thousands of entries on a suprisingly small number, considering the number of topics, threads, and posts....of tables. Proprietary Board OS like the invisionboard used here and competitor VBulletin can support membership levels in the hundreds of thousands, and I may be underestimating the capacity. You can install one of your own and play with it, it is easy, with or without your own URL. You can obtain advert. free hosting space here, and it supports the installation of one of the free Forum OS I linked above. I'd be happy to help, if you get stuck along the way. I am in desperate need of help or feedback, from an administrator on the forum regarding my sudden inability to post anything more than two paragraphs, although I am not a computer guru, I have managed to contribute over 1,800 posts in the JFK Debate without too much trouble, and all of a sudden, [no I have not changed anything on my computer, that would affect how it interacts with the forum, although I do use APPLE MAC OS X] I cannot post anything over 2 paragraphs without the remainder, simply not showing up at all in the thread. If you are an administrator and read this please contact me, to help me resolve this issue. Even if there is not technically a new format, anyone with eyes can see changes in how the forum looks, and apparently functions different than say weeks before this thread was started. I am certainly not imagining the serious difficulties I am having, which, if left unremedied, would leave me no recourse other than to no longer post on the forum. I cannot understand what can be causing this problem. I always write by contributions in "Word" and then paste it into the box. I have never had any problems doing it that way. Guest Tom Scully
John, I have a similar experience to yours, except that there are new restrictions on the number of quote boxes and a limit of two outside image links, a problem for those of us who use flikr.com, photobucket, etc. but it does seem there are negatives with google search.: "education forum" WWF Nature Trust ...yields the result at this link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22education+forum%22+WWF+Nature+Trust&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai= When I click on it, I end up here: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras§ion=stats&do=who&t=14678
