For those who are interested in the history of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, there is a new film at Amazon Prime, called The Courier (2021.)  Worth watching.

The film features Benedict Cumberbatch as Greville Wynne, the British industrial salesman who was recruited by MI6 in 1960 to serve as a courier to the Soviet spy Oleg Penkovsky.

The intelligence that Penkovsky conveyed to Wynne was the initial basis for JFK's response to the Soviet deployment of nukes in Cuba in October of 1962, and played a critical role in, ultimately, preventing the annihilation of the planet on October 27, 1962.

Sadly, Penkovsky and Wynne were both arrested by the KGB in October of 1962.

Penkovsky was executed in 1963, and Wynne spent two years in Lubyanka, before MI6 finally negotiated his release with a prisoner exchange.

I was thinking of watching the link but you gave away the ending.  Thankfully.  So Penkovsky and Wynne saved us all from nuclear annihilation?
