Steve Thomas
- Donald Trump - “I'm for us. You know how you spell us, right? U.S. I just picked that up. Has anyone ever thought of that before? Steve Thomas
"Never has U.S. history been as entertaining as when taught by stable genius Professor Donald Trump. In this 3-minute crash course, you will learn: • How the Continental Army "manned the airports" during the Revolutionary War • Andrew Jackson caused the Civil War, even though he died 16 years before the Civil War started • The same Andrew Jackson was "really angry" during the Civil War • The Great Depression started in 1928 • Hitler went through countries "like cheese" • A wheel is older than a wall • The Canadians burned down the White House • And much much more! "If we don't know our history, it could all happen again," says Prof. Trump, whose unwavering gravitas when sharing his expertise on the subject makes for a perfect punchline. "Have to know our history," he concludes — a history which, he discloses in the end, was taught to him by Melania. https://boingboing.net/2023/10/24/stable-genius-donald-trump-gives-us-a-crash-course-on-u-s-history-in-hilarious-video.html Steve Thomas

W. Niederhut
Civilian casualties in Gaza since October 7th now exceed 5,000-- about half of them children. Jordan’s Queen: Double standard in treatment of Palestinians | Watch (msn.com) Kristof: We Must Not Kill Gazan Children to Try to Protect Israel's Children October 21, 2023 The crisis in the Middle East is a knotty test of our humanity, asking how to respond to a grotesque provocation for which there is no good remedy. And in this test, we in the West are not doing well. The acceptance of large-scale bombing of Gaza and of a ground invasion likely to begin soon suggests that Palestinian children are lesser victims, devalued by their association with Hamas and its history of terrorism. Consider that more than 1,500 children in Gaza have been killed, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, and around one-third of Gaza homes have been destroyed or damaged in just two weeks — and this is merely the softening-up before what is expected to be a much bloodier ground invasion. …The United States speaks a good deal about principles, but I fear that President Biden has embedded a hierarchy of human life in official American policy. He expressed outrage at the massacres of Jews by Hamas, as he should have, but he has struggled to be equally clear about valuing Gazan lives. And it’s not always evident whether he is standing four-square with Israel as a country or with its failed prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, a longtime obstacle to peace. …In his speech on Thursday, Biden called for America to stand firmly behind Ukraine and Israel, two nations attacked by forces aiming to destroy them. Fair enough. But suppose Ukraine responded to Russian war crimes by laying siege to a Russian city, bombing it into dust and cutting off water and electricity while killing thousands and obliging doctors to operate on patients without anesthetic. I doubt we Americans would shrug and say: Well, Putin started it. Too bad about those Russian children, but they should have chosen somewhere else to be born. …The best answer to this test is to try even in the face of provocation to cling to our values. That means that despite our biases, we try to uphold all lives as having equal value. If your ethics see some children as invaluable and others as disposable, that’s not moral clarity but moral myopia. We must not kill Gazan children to try to protect Israeli children. Kirk Gallaway
I have little doubt that Israel would be boots on the ground in Gaza right now if it wasn't for Biden. But it looks like Biden is only going to be concerned about American hostages getting free and too bad about the catastrophic loss of human life and suffering.. I think Biden's the only person in the world that could change the equation, and it seems apparent he's not going to. But still the smartest thing he could do for all hostages would be to call for a ceasefire, to let some smoke settle. Israel has already gotten payback. Even if they significantly get rid of much of Hamas. Their actions in doing so will just ensure it will come back in some other form. Steve Thomas
Trump backs insurrectionist Mike Johnson in speaker bid with an eye on 2024 election By Travis Gettys October 25, 2023 https://www.rawstory.com/mike-johnson-insurrection/ Johnson, who has represented Louisiana’s 4th congressional district since 2016, was one of the leading figures in House efforts to overturn Trump's election loss. ADVERTISEMENT The Republican Accountability Project gave him a failing grade for his commitment to democracy, noting that Johnson had signed on to a Texas amicus brief challenging Trump's election loss in key battleground states and whipped up anger on social media on the morning of the U.S. Capitol riot. “We MUST fight for election integrity, the Constitution, and the preservation of our republic!" Johnson tweeted. "It will be my honor to help lead that fight in the Congress today.” Johnson voted against certifying Joe Biden's election win after then-House speaker Nancy Pelosi gaveled Congress back into session on Jan. 6, 2021, and he voted against the bipartisan commission to investigate the insurrection and voted against holding Steve Bannon in contempt of Congress. "Rep. Johnson has no interest in preserving our democracy, he gets an F," the Republican Accountability Project stated. Steve Thomas
