John Simkin
Clifford T. Ward was indeed a very talented singer/songwriter.I loved his song 'Gaye' from the early 70's. It was covered many times but the simplicity with how Ward performed this track was quite stunning. If you haven't heard it, may I suggest making the effort to track it down. James You will find it here. I think you will appreciate the scenery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFZnMiZd87Q That's great. Thanks, John. My first love was named Gaye so lots of memories there. One of my favorite pure vocalists is Sarah Brightman. I not sure how popular she is in the United States but Ms. Brightman has quite the following here in Australia and of course in Great Britain. Here is a performance of 'Deliver Me'. Quite something indeed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuECcqgwrvo James Sarah Brightman is not highly regarded in the UK. Most think she only got on because of relationship with Andrew Lloyd Webber. I do like her one time singing partner, Andrea Bocelli. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLHq7rgHOLk

I think you are familiar with moodle, our lecturer posts youtube videos relevant to the days lecture, that is where I first saw country joe. I really love the protest songs. I have ordered a Phil Ochs cd and just received one by Tom Paxton. Any other protest singers would be of great interest to me. John
Charles Drago
If 60s protest music is of interest, you cannot avoid confronting Charles Mingus. And "confronting" is just about the best word to describe what the great composer/bassist was all about. There are some very important Mingus videos on YouTube, and I urge you to have at it. Charles Drago
You might also search for Max Roach -- "South Africa Goddamn," "Mendacity," and other politically charged compositions that rival the Mingus canon. Or is that "cannon"? Charles Edited April 7, 2007 by Charles Drago

She was also a talented folk singer. I taught their son history. Nice lad. He did not sing but had a passion to be an actor.

Kathleen Collins
I love the Beatles. I had never seen this video before. It's terrific. The guys all look good and John Lennon sings the song without disguising his voice any. This is Lennon's full, idiosyncratic voice, unblemished. Also, you'll see a lot of teeth. When they first came over, George Harrison had a brown tooth in the front. And McCartney had weird, crooked teeth. I learned this when I saw an old picture of them and was amazed. I remember my father saying, "All the British have bad teeth." Anyway, McCartney's higher harmony is turned way down, so you hear Lennon. And I love the driving bass. (Ironically, this is the one Beatle song I don't have.) And the Beatles seem happy and Lennon healthy. http://youtube.com/watch?=guuv-DEg62k Kathy

Brian Smith
I thought it might be a good idea for us to share information on videos we like. YouTube is especially good for this. One of my favourite singers is Lou Rawls. Take a look at this selection of videos.
