I am well aware that many people will see this structure as stupid, and worse.

It was not intended as such. I actually think that this structure of lineups,, which I stole from the poet Charles North, can be a useful analytic tool.

Hey, they're a small market team!

November 18, 1996|By JONATHAN MARSHALL

One of the first questions any murder investigator asks is cui bono -- who benefits.

In the case of the John F. Kennedy assassination, whose 33rd anniversary falls on Friday, new answers have come from a recent economic study called "Friends in High Places: The Wealth Effects of JFK's Assassination on the Assets of LBJ's Supporters."

The study, by Claremont-McKenna College economist William Brown Jr., was published this year in Public Choice, a leading social science journal.

...A postscript for assassination buffs: No individual stood to lose more from the TFX scandal than Chicago investor Henry Crown, who owned 20 percent of General Dynamics. His personal attorney, Albert Jenner, became a senior staff attorney on the Warren Commission, in charge of investigating the possibility of a conspiracy....

.... http://hosted.ap.org...ford/ford03.PDF

Ford reported to DeLoach that at a top-secret meeting of the commission held on December 16, 1963 the commission’s general counsel, J.Lee Rankin, had been empowered to retain to “so-called technicians.” The two who were under consideration were Francis W.H. Adams, a former New York City police commissioner, and Albert E. Jenner, Jr., a Chicago lawyer. Ford, the documents disclose, could only remember the last names of the two men. The FBI then began an investigation to determine who “Adams” and “Jenner” were. DeLoach, who was the number three man in the FBI, ranking just uner Hoover and his friende Clyde Tolson, reported, “I told Congressman Ford in strict confidence that apparently Chief Justice Warren was quite close to Drew Pearson (a leading syndicated columnist) and obviously used Pearson from time to time to get his thoughts across as the percentage of the facts in the articles that were absolutely false.”

THE PRESS: New TIME Team

Monday, May. 02, 1960

For TIME INC., publishers of TIME, LIFE, FORTUNE, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, ARCHITECTURAL FORUM and HOUSE & HOME magazines, 1959 was a year of unprecedented growth. Its magazines registered a total circulation gain of 605,436 to 11,485,901 and, together with other TIME INC. properties, produced a record-breaking revenue of $271,373,088. But if 1959 was a year of growth, 1960 is a year of change with an eye to the future. Last week the board of directors of TIME INC. approved the election of a new top-management team. Said Editor-in-Chief Henry R. Luce and President Roy E. Larsen in announcing the changes: "Younger men of proven ability take over positions of leadership."

To succeed Maurice T. Moore, 64, TIME INC. board chairman since 1942, the board elected Andrew Heiskell, 44, publisher of LIFE for the past 14 years. Named president of TIME INC., replacing Larsen as the company's operating head: James A. Linen III, 47, who has been TIME'S publisher since 1945. Larsen, 61, who joined TIME as circulation manager in November, 1922, just before its first issue, and was LIFE'S publisher for ten years after its launching in 1936, becomes chairman of the executive committee of the board of directors; Moore continues as the company's chief counsel and a member of the board. In their new positions at TIME'S top, Linen and Heiskell will work closely with Larsen and with TIME'S founder and principal stockholder, Editor-in-Chief Luce.

The new publisher of TIME, succeeding Linen, is Bernhard M. Auer, 44 (see A LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER). LIFE'S new publisher: C. D. Jackson, 58, publisher of FORTUNE from 1949 to 1953 and onetime (1953-54) special assistant to President Eisenhower.

The changes voted by the board also affect the youngest member of TIME INC.'S family, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED. Sidney L. James, 53, SI's managing editor since 1954, its first year of publication, succeeds Publisher Arthur R. Murphy, 44, who was elected a vice president of TIME INC. with the assignment of director of production. Assistant Managing Editor Andre Laguerre, 45, moves up to managing editor.

The board also named David W. Brumbaugh, 51, now TIME INC. administrative vice president and secretary, to be executive vice president, treasurer, and a member of the board. Charles Stillman, 56, becomes chairman of the board's finance committee, and Howard Black, 63, becomes senior vice president.

The shifts are part of a management-reorganization program that in recent months has included the appointment of Hedley Donovan, managing editor of FORTUNE from 1953 to 1959, as editorial director of TIME INC.; of Otto Fuerbringer as TIME'S managing editor, succeeding Roy Alexander, now editor; and of Duncan Norton-Taylor as FORTUNE'S managing editor. The changes, said Editor-in-Chief Luce, give TIME INC. "a management which will match the great opportunities of the future."(/quote)

The Outfit: The Role of Chicago's Underworld in the Shaping of ... - Google Books Result

books.google.com/books?isbn=1582342792...Gus Russo - 2003 - Biography & Autobiography

Jack Clarke, who worked in the investigative police unit of Chicago's Mayor Daley, recently recalled what happened next. "Bobby Kennedy called me and asked if there would be any problem if Jake Factor were pardoned," said Clarke. "When I explained the details of Factor's Outfit—Capone, Humphreys, the Sands, et cetera—Bobby went, 'Holy s___!' He then explained that he had already approved the pardon."

Clarke added that Bobby's dealings with the Factor case were not atypical:

"RFK didn't know what he was doing in the ]ustice Department. He had no idea of the subtleties, the histories of these people."

I couldn't find another source for the quotes attributed to Jack Clarke. But the gist of it is consistent with what I am finding. For example, there is no record that RFK attempted to interfere with his brother leasing Glen Ora from a family with intense mob connections, or to immediately insist on the resignation of the clueless, incompetent SS Chief.

The comments by Urbanus Baughman in his book indicate persuasively that before he resigned as chief of the SS, he believed Glen Ora was not a secure choice and that the costs of making it less insecure were prohibitive. So, why was JFK placed there for 2-1/2 years?

In summer, 1961, did Baumann make CYA move by claiming that there was no national organized crime because he was aware Glen Ora was owned by the family that employed Pat Hoy for more than 15 years, until the same year JFK leased Glen Ora?

I think it is a mistake to approach the Time-Life "purchase" of the Zapruder film and the TFX scandal as unrelated events. TFX was at the time the most expensive single government contract in the history of the world. Frank Pace and Maurice T. Moore were two of the most trusted Henry Luce associates. It was and is a fact it is impossible to determine the reach and the influence of LCN in our American society, so maybe it was just easier to ignore LCN taint on the FBI, DOJ, Supreme Court, WC, the U.S. presidency, the business community, and of defense contractors.

DID McNAMARA WEEP AT QUIZ?

...Crown was to grow up to become the greatest exponent of sand and gravel in the world— virtually

transforming sanitary district sand piles and quarries into gold mines.

"Henry Crown," said Booth, "views the Sanitary District as a small subsidiary of

Material Service Corporation." From the mid 1920s to the early 1940s, Crown purchased nearly 1000

acres of district land through nominees — Benjamin Z. Gould, general counsel of MSC,

and one Clarence R. Serb — without competitive bidding, paying an average of $64 an acre.

These vast holdings, plus another 420 acres held under long-term leases negotiated mostly in the 1950s, literally formed the foundation of MSC. These properties had mountains of earth and rock deposits on their surface (spoil banks rich in limestone used for crushed rock and cement) which were the residue from channel widening and deepening at the turn of the century. They saved MSC the expense of quarrying for years. In his complaint, Booth pointed out that "none of the leases approved by the Trustees authorized Material Service Corporation to engage in excavation of sand, gravel, or other materials from below the surface of the ground. On information and belief Material Service Corporation has engaged in extensive excavating operations and removed enormous quantities of sand, gravel, limestone and other materials from below the surface of the ground which it has sold. . .[obtaining] large revenues . . . and has unjustly and unlawfully enriched itself thereby.

. . . All such acts and operations . . .

are illegal and beyond the power granted . . . under the laws of the State of Illinois. ...

and short-term leases also at inadequate rentals as well as buy the right to take other spoil banks at nominal prices. ....

Wedding Bells for Robert McNamara

By Roxanne Roberts

Washington Post Staff Writer

Wednesday, September 8, 2004; Page C01

...."Romantic" is not the first word that comes to mind when referring to Robert McNamara, but the 88-year-old former defense secretary is a dove when it comes to love. McNamara will wed his Italian-born sweetheart, Diana Masieri Byfield, next week in a ceremony in Italy.

This is the second marriage for both. ....

.....Byfield was born in Aviano, Italy, and still has a thick accent, although she came to the United States more than 40 years ago. As a teenager she showed horses and drove rally cars. She was married for more than three decades to Ernest Byfield, a former OSS officer and public relations executive. Byfield has lived for many years on a farm in Middleburg, and is an avid tennis player.

...Earl Warren and his family were close friends of Henry Crown's investment partner, Conrad Hilton, and Warren's daughter, Virginia was formerly involved in a close relationship with Conrad Hilton.[55][56][57][58] The year following the publication of the Warren Report, Earl Warren selected[59] as his Supreme Court law clerk, the son of Paul Ziffren,[60]former California state Democratic party chairman, forced to resign after allegations of Ziffren's organized crime connections were leveled by Earl Warren's friend,[61] Senator William F. Knowland.[62][63][64][65]

"One of the things that was embarrassing and got national coverage was the Reader's Digest article of July, 1960. It was written by Lester Velie and is called, "Paul Ziffren, The Democrats' Man of Mystery." ...LA-T7 advised that as a result of his particular study, he came to the conclusion that three separate and well defined groups had been systematically investing millions of dollars into California real estate and that in each of the three groups concerned, there were men participating who were directly linked to organized crime, principally the remnants of the AL CAPONE organization. LA-T7 indicated that Ziffren appeared to be involved in each of the investment groups and appeared to be the directing force of each of these operations.

The lawyers and judges, from the ones who worked for Gen. They obstructed justice to the point that your theory is not even as good as mine. I can present a well supported circumstantial case. It doesn't even matter much if I believe in it, it is damning.

Here is a list that i made of who could behind the assassination i will try to go into more detail on why these people may have done it.

1 The head of ZR/Rifle project William Harvey he would recruit the assassination team and their backups.

2 Mafia don Carlos Marcello provided the funding

3 Either the Hunts or Clinton Murchison because Texas was their playground and both hated Kennedy.

4 David Phillips help in framing Oswald

5 James Jesus Angleton again false info on Oswald

6 E. Howard Hunt says he was involved

7 David Sánchez Morales work with Harvey

8 Need help from some agents in the FBI(Hoover)

10 Persons in the Dallas police force recruited by the Hunts or Murchison.

11 Ed Lansdale Military voice in Dallas

12 Allen Dulles controlled all info in dealings about the CIA

13 George de Mohrenschildt

1 William Harvey Did not like to policy that the Kennedy's were taking after the Bay of Pigs towards Castro. Stopping the assassinations attempts on his like. He saw this as a slap in the face of the anti-castro cubans. He recruited the assassination team and their backups because he was the head of ZR/Rifle project he knew who he cold trust on this

2 Carlos Marcello How RFK had him deported in the middle of the night and had to sneak back into the country. This was a great slap in the face which called for payback also had the money to carry it off

If you ask, "Cui bono?", or, "Who benefits?" from the JFK assassination...it depends on your horizon. LBJ, in the short horizon...or Nixon on the longer view, as far as political benificiaries. Don Reynolds had all but eliminated LBJ's horizon on November 22, 1963...until JFK died. And Nixon was politically washed up when Pat Brown handed him his...errrr...hat, in 1962. While I think that both Nixon and LBJ got their political lives resuscitated on November 22, 1963, I don't believe that either was the mastermind.

If the Military-Industrial Complex had gotten their way, Oswald would've been directly linked to Cuba and the MIC would've gone from Cold War to hot just 90 miles offshore...IF the war would've stayed there. Instead, LBJ made a song-and-dance man out of Earl Warren, and Warren and Company got the MIC to shuffle off to Cam Ranh Bay...9,000 miles offshore, with little threat of nuclear retaliation. LBJ took care of his benefactors, but in the end the American people turned on him.

The Mafia wasn't generally oriented towards snipers; "up-close-and-personal" was more their style [Ruby killing Oswald fits this pattern]. So I doubt the Mafia had a role in the assassination, until it was time to take Oswald out of the picture. Interesting that Marcello's man David Ferrie said that, after the assassination he and his pals came to Texas and went skating...and in another thread just today, I read that one of Jack Ruby's favorite sports was....skating. I think it's possible that Ferrie took Marcello's skate key and tightened the screws on Ruby. But prior to the assassination, I don't see a lot of evidence of Mafia involvement.

J. Edna Hoover may or may not have had foreknowledge. But after the assassination, he certainly made the evidence fit the story. Hoover was facing mandatory in 1965 at age 70, and considering how he and the Kennedys got along, they weren't very likely to recommend the rules be waived so Hoover could stay. Hoover and LBJ were blackmailers of the same order, and LBJ knew that as long as he let Hoover stay on, Hoover would share information with him under-the-table. Just before Hoover testifir=ed before the Warren Commission, LBJ appointed Hoover FBI Director for life. And Nixon was just as sleazy as LBJ and Hoover, so Hoover held his job until he died in 1972.

I believe that LBJ and Nixon were merely tools of those who actually held the reins of power...whomever they may be. In fact, I believe that Nixon may have committed political suicide by bringing up "the Bay of Pigs thing," thinking that HE held all the aces; after that, his presidency was left dangling in in the wind, and team player Gerald Ford--the ONLY President never to have been elected to either the presidency or vice-presidency, as well as the FBI snitch on the Warren Commission--did what he was told and got to grab the brass ring for awhile. There were a couple of lame "assassination attempts" against Ford, but I would argue that they were ALLOWED to happen in order to ensure that Ford never questioned his orders.

So who had the greatest motive to kill Kennedy? LBJ had his own political career as a motive. Nixon had revenge against the man who left him a politically broken man as a motive. BUT motive doesn't always equal murder. It also takes means...and in this case, I would suggest that it took financial means as well as physical means to commit the crime.

Financial means could be found in the right-wing extremists. Financial means [and motive] could be found in the Mafia. Financial means might well have also come from the CIA budget, either directly or indirectly. Since I don't see evidence of direct Mafia involvement in the JFK shooting, and the Mafia isn't known for hiring outside contractors for a hit, I really believe that it was more or less coincidental that the Mafia's desire for revenge against Kennedy was fulfilled by a non-Mafia shooter.

As far as an assassination weapon, I find it unusual that a THINKING plotter would've used a rifle in an obscure caliber like 6.5mm. This killing occurred in Texas, and Texans have a reputation as hunters. A 6.5mm is NOT a common hunting caliber, and it wasn't a common caliber in 1963, either. It would have made more sense, had the sniper had a getaway plan, to have used a common hunting rifle in a caliber such as 30.06 [pronounced "thirty OUGHT six," not "thirty ODD six"; the 30.06 was introduces as a military standard in 1906--"nineteen ought six"-- hence the name] or a .30-30 [.30 caliber, which also originally used a 30 grain smokeless powder charg in its early days]. The use of a .30-06 or a .30-30 would have identified hundreds, if not THOUSANDS, of rifles all across Texas as possible murder weapons. Since the murder weapon was identified as a 6.5mm Mannlicher-Carcano, even if the rifle hadn't been discovered in the TSBD, the ballistics would've pointed to a very narrow range of suspects. And perhaps that was the point of the 6.5mm Carcano...if the rifle itself hadn't been found, ballistics would've linked back to a smaller pool of suspect rifles to begin with. That might've been the ultimate way to link Oswald to the crime, even if he never fired a shot.

Just some ideas to think on...

There were a couple of lame "assassination attempts" against Ford, but I would argue that they were ALLOWED to happen in order to ensure that Ford never questioned his orders.

Well, the also-unelected, and unelectable, Nelson Rockefeller was V-P, and the Nixon and Ford admins were packed with Rockefeller minions (increasingly so from the second Nixon term). So, I argue that the assassination attempts weren't dodges. Despite the poor quality of the patsies, they would have had back-up.

Squeaky Fromme - in reputation, the equivalent of a female Oswald. Her automatic pistol was unchambered? Such errata can be corrected in historical editing, should the plan succeed. Sara Jane Moore packed a nice, dependable .38 revolver, and actually got off a shot. She was stopped by an ex-marine in the crowd.

Moore, by virtue of being a second female assassin, carried high lone-nut credentials as a "copycat" killer. Why else go for it twice in three weeks? Was Ford that dense that he didn't catch on the first time?

One can argue that both attempts were "foiled" by ringers in the Secret Service or the crowd. But the answer to "who would profit?" is self-evident. What indications were there that Ford showed any threat of diverging from the plans of those who ushered him into the two highest executive offices?

The Fromme-Moore blueprint was followed in the Reagan assassination attempt, with a similar candidate for ultimate benefit waiting in the wings.

Guest Robert Morrow

Who had the greatest motive to have JFK removed from office?

Who had the greatest reward to risk ratio?

That is easy. LYNDON JOHNSON was in the greatest danger because he was about to be politically executed and personally destroyed by Robert Kennedy - that was within days of occurring with a LIFE Magazine expose due to go to the presses on Friday, November 29, 1963, with an issue date of December 6th. So LBJ had the greatest motive to murder JFK. And he certainly had the chops to do it; LBJ had been murdering folks for a long time in Texas.

Because LYNDON JOHNSON himself would become president upon JFK's death, he would be perfectly placed to orchestrate his murder of his predecessor. So that is a high reward, low risk proposition to murder JFK from the "vantage point" of Lyndon Johnson.
