Splitting off from the Illuminati thread here...

The Old Catholic Church

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Catholic_Church

The Old Catholic Church is a community of Christian churches. Many of these were German-speaking churches of laypersons and clergymen who split from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1870s because of the promulgation of the dogma of Papal Infallibility as promoted by the First Vatican Council of 1869–1870. The term 'Old Catholic' was first used in 1853 to describe the members of the See of Utrecht, who were not under Papal authority. While the European Old Catholic Churches are a part of the Union of Utrecht, there are many more that are independent, especially in the United States.

Counter-Reformation

In 1534 in Spain, Ignatius Loyola founded the “Society of Jesus”, the Jesuits, to revive the Catholic church. Responding to the success of the new Protestant churches, the Pope called a catholic conference, the Council of Trent in 1545 to discuss reforms, which, led by the Jesuits, began to take effect from 1560. The abuses by the most corrupt of the clergy were tackled. The Jesuits set up colleges to train clergy all over the catholic world, including at Saint-Omer and Douai. Their zeal led to excesses, echoing the Spanish Inquisition, founded in 1478 to hunt out Jews suspected of practising their forbidden faith in secret.

In 1962-1963 David Ferrie made seven long distance phone calls from New Orleans to an unlisted number in the (416) area code: Toronto Canada.

In 1967, at the request of the New Orleans district attorney's office, Metropolitan Toronto Police linked the unlisted number to Earl Anglin Lawrence James, a bishop in the Old Roman Catholic Church of North America, a shadowy and highly factionalized heretical sect in which Ferrie was reportedly ordained and subsequently defroked as a priest. (Ferrie has also been described in error as being a "bishop" in the sect; he was not.) The group's "apostolic tables of succession" prominently identify Earl Anglin James as a bishop in their movement, a rank held by very few in the movement. See following links for more:

[ Tables of Apostolic Succession ]

[ Old Roman Catholic Church of North America Home Page ]

[ "Official" Catholic info site on sect ]

In a local press interview in November 1967, the schismatic bishop Earl Anglin James vehemently insisted he only received one call in his entire life from New Orleans "in March 1965 and it was from Mr. J. S. Martin. It was personal."

Earl James characterized the allegations of his links to David Ferrie and the JFK assassination as a smear campaign by factions within his controversial church. James insisted that he had never been in the State of Louisiana.

The 1967 Metro Toronto Police / New Orleans DA communications are classified, but senior Toronto inspectors kept filing Earl James - JFK related reports into an informal historic correspondence file as "memos for letter files."

The last item in the file was a routine 1970 report on a stolen wallet recovered and returned by Toronto Police to Earl Anglin James. But prior to releasing the billfold to James, the police officer photocopied the troubling contents in the wallet and sent them to a senior Toronto Police homicide inspector, who subsequently deposited the copies into the "letter files." While ostensibly James was a Canadian residing in Toronto, the items in his wallet suggest his presence in New Orleans in the early 1960's, where presumably he met David Ferrie. Most curious are the Louisiana Department of Justice identification cards which James had in his billfold and his smuggling activities--of both, material and human beings.

Bishop James brings in JS Martin. I can't help but wonder if there were 2 men using that same name, with the same initials. One being 'Jack S. Martin,' aliases Edward Stuart Suggs, John J. Martin, and the other a James Stuart Martin. How does ALBERT OSBORNE AKA JOHN HOWARD BOWEN fit into all of this?

Mae Brussell:

Lee Harvey Oswald, Albert Osborne

When Lee Harvey Oswald entered Mexico at Laredo, Texas, on Sept. 26, 1963, his companion on the Red Arrow bus was Albert Osborne, alias John Howard Bowen. Bowen-Osborne had been running a school for highly professional marksmen in Oaxaca, Mexico, since 1934. The cover for the place was his particular mission, and he was the missionary.

The FBI records on Bowen go back to June 4, 1942, in Henderson Springs, Tennessee. He operated a camp for boys known as "Campfire Council." Neighbors complained it was for pro-nazi activities with young fascists. Bowen vehemently opposed the U.S. going to war with nazi Germany. They stomped on the American flag.

Before that, Bowen worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority since 1933. His dual citizenship between Great Britain and the U.S. took him over the entire globe. So did his use of multiple aliases.

After the Warren Commission published their report in September 1964, several attorneys in the Southwest recognized the name of Osborne. September 8, 1952, Jake Floyd was murdered. The target was meant to be his father, District Judge Floyd. Two suspects were caught, one got away. Their testimony was about being hired by Osborne and how he ran the school for assassins.

Later investigation revealed Osborne's connections to Division V of the FBI, and to Clay Shaw's Centro Mondiale Commerciale, with funding coming from New Orleans for the CIA, Anti-Castro Cubans, and others. Lee Harvey Oswald applied for a tourist card to enter Mexico while still in New Orleans on September 17, 1963

Four other persons, having consecutive tourist numbers, departed nine days later, like Oswald, all to arrive at the same time, entering from several different cities. They were part of the White Russian Solidarists, the Gehlen emigre community that Lee and Marina mingled with.

This assassination team funded Maurice Brooks Gatlin, Guy Bannister, and the Miami office of Double Check Corporation. J. Edgar Hoover's Division V, Domestic Intelligence, working with the American Council of Christian Churches, had used this group from the Bowen-Osbome academy of assassins.

Volume XXV of the Hearings has many pages of interviews with people who had sent money to Jack Bowen. They never met him, and some like Mrs. Bessie White, Pikesville, Tenn., mailed $35 a month to John Howard Bowen who she believed had been doing missionary work for 18 years in Mexico." Osborne-Bowen had a mission.

Lee Harvey Oswald, agent from U.S. Defense Dept., had a team of doubles impersonating his behavior, leaving trails of anti-American frustration and meetings with various people.

Hmmm...Peter Levenda seems to have been working some of it out. This is very interesting.

The Bishop and the Boys - Part One

The number of American clergy or misionaries [sic] used by the CIA has been small. The CIA has informed the Committee of a total of 14 covert arrangements which involved direct operational use of 21 individuals. In six or seven cases, the CIA paid salaries, bonuses, or expenses to the religious personnel, or helped to fund projects run by them.

-- The Domestic Impact of Foreign Clandestine Operations: The CIA and Academic Institutions, the Media, and Religious Institutions, (Section X of the Church Report), p. 202

In 2001, investigative journalist Daniel Hopsicker published Barry and the Boys: The CIA, The Mob and America's Secret History. One of the first authors to concentrate on the life and times of Barry Seal ( a dope smuggler and CIA operative who began his career as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol with such dubious luminaries as Lee Harvey Oswald and David Ferrie) he also explored the gun-running career of David Ferrie himself in the same volume. It is a book full of new information on Seal, Ferrie, and the anti-Castro Cubans of Miami, as well as on the mysterious goings-on at Mena, Arkansas. He followed this up with the publication, in 2004, of Welcome to Terrorland: Mohamed Atta and the 9/11 Cover-Up in Florida, a book about the terror attacks that should be on everyone?s bookshelf.

But there is another aspect to Ferrie that has so far escaped most modern investigators and researchers, probably because it is just too weird ... even for conspiracy theorists and Congressional subcommittees. This is the area of his life we might term the "spiritual".

Since it is our intention to investigate the spirituality of our most notorious political figures and the religio-mystical ambiance in which both covert and overt policy is planned and executed, we can have no better starting point than the life and times of David Ferrie. Ferrie will lead us to Jack Martin, to Thomas Edward Beckham, to Fred Lee Crisman, to Thomas Jude Baumler, to Carl Stanley (now "Saint Christopher Maria"), to Walter Propheta and, eventually, right back to J. Edgar Hoover himself. It will also lead us to William Bryan, the hypnotist suspected of complicity in the assassination of Senator Robert F Kennedy. It will also lead us to the Iran-Contra affair. It will also lead us to the civil war in the former Yugoslavia and "ethnic cleansing".

This is the world of the wandering bishops and, gentle reader, you will only hear about this from me. No one else has covered this story. No one else has delved very far into the shadowy world where intelligence agents and archbishops meet. Although I was there, and saw some of this first hand, I will base most of what is told in these pages on the documents themselves: Warren Commission records, FBI interviews, HSCA documentation, etc. It's all there, if you know where to look.

Because of the separation of church and state guaranteed by our Constitution, it is easy for anyone in America to set up their own church. In countries where there is a state religion this is virtually impossible. In other countries, such as Mexico, we find laws enacted that curtail the practice of religion in certain ways. And in communist countries, the free expression of any form of religion is frowned upon or outlawed altogether.

But in America...

Some of the world?s newest faiths were created out of whole cloth in the United States. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints -- better known as the Mormons -- was an invention of Joseph Smith, Jr., a ceremonial magician who combined myths about the Indian burial mounds, the lost tribes of Israel, and Masonic ritual into a unique amalgam of Christianity, Judaism, and occultism. The Spiritualist church was created out of the experiences of the Fox sisters in upstate New York. The Theosophical Society was created in New York City in 1875, and out of that was formed the Liberal Catholic Church. And so on.

As popular as many of these religions have become, however, there is another world of created church about which most people are unaware, and properly so: the leaders of these churches often do not evangelize. They are not interested in congregations or parishes, theology or liturgics. They have other agendas, and the clerical collar and pectoral cross of the clergyman serve to disguise and obscure actions and projects that have far-ranging historical and political repercussions.

These men (and some women) have been found involved in everything from the assassination of a president to the assassination of his brother, to Iran-Contra. And they are with us today, changing denominations, titles, and even names like sacerdotal chameleons as they shape-shift through the political landscape. Their story is told in some detail in Sinister Forces, Book One: The Nine (and nowhere else). We will build and expand on that detail to tell the following story.

The American Orthodox Catholic Church (AOCC) had several incarnations. The version created in June of 1964 (by Bishops Guthrie, Roebke, Zeiger and Stanley) in the American midwest was one; the version created about the same time in New York City by Bishop Walter Propheta was another.

Propheta was a Ukrainian Orthodox priest and noted anti-Communist in the 1950s who appeared on the Dave Garroway television program speaking about the Katyn Forest Massacre (the murder of Ukrainian soldiers by the Soviets). He was so well-known at the time that, had Dewey actually won the 1948 presidential election away from Truman, Propheta would have been the White House chaplain. When I knew Propheta, he showed me both the Dave Garroway footage and the letter he received from Dewey promising him the post. It seems that Propheta helped Dewey politically in New Jersey, working for the Republican Party there and garnering support for Dewey's presidential bid.

No matter. Eisenhower became President in 1952 and was re-elected for a second term in 1956. During his Republican administration, Propheta faired well although not as well as he would have under Dewey. Then, the disastrous events of 1960 when Vice President Richard Nixon lost the election to the youthful, Catholic and Democratic, Jack Kennedy. Propheta and his anti-Communists had the wind knocked out of their sails, and with the unfolding of the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis, it appeared that the Captive Nations (of which Ukraine was one, along with Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Armenia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland and other Soviet satellites) would stay captive.

Kennedy was assassinated in November, 1963. Within months, Propheta had formed his own church in New York City and, at the same time, another was being formed in Denver, Colorado. Both were called the American Orthodox Catholic Church, the idea being the creation of an Orthodox Church for Americans. Previously, most Orthodox churches in the United States were ethnic churches in which the services were celebrated in the language of the immigrants who formed the congregations, whether Greek, Syrian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, etc. An American Orthodox Catholic Church would focus on Americans of whatever ancestry, joined by a common belief in the Eastern Orthodox faith and furthermore joined by a common liturgical language, English. It was a noble concept, and for awhile it seemed as if the Colorado contingent were actually carrying out this ambitious project. In New York, however, these sentiments were honored more in the breach than the observance.

While the assassination of President Kennedy served to advance the agenda of the hawks and anti-Communists in Washington and the Pentagon, there was still a Democratic President -- Johnson -- and a strong Democratic presence in the government. Kennedy was considered "soft on Communism", but Johnson escalated the war in Vietnam to show his determination to take the fight to the enemy. The mounting opposition to the war at home, however, gave rise to the growth of anti-war movements and a variety of revolutionary organizations. The FBI and CIA saw these groups as puppets of the Soviets -- and, in some cases, they were probably right (as revealed by the Mitrokhin Archive, among other sources) -- and measures were taken to infiltrate and destroy everything from the Black Panthers and the SDS to the Ku Klux Klan. At the same time, anti-Castro operations were running at an all-time high. With the failure of the Bay of Pigs operation in 1961, Cubans in the United States had vowed to carry on the struggle with or without US government approval or support.

Out of this miasma of politics, paramilitary groups and rage emerged a man called by New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison "one of history?s most important individuals": David Ferrie. One of the least understood and most underreported aspects of Ferrie's career is the inescapable fact that he was a member of the American Orthodox Catholic Church and, indeed, for awhile one of its clergy.

In fact, New Orleans had more than its fair share of AOCC bishops and clergy.

And they all seemed to work for Guy Banister

One of the many separate tragedies accompanying the disastrous hurricane strike on New Orleans is the possible loss of some of the more important landmarks and archival material concerning the life and times of Lee Harvey Oswald in that city, including those of Guy Banister, Jack Martin, David Ferrie, Clay Shaw, Thomas Beckham, Jim Garrison, and others. The New Orleans episode is rife with conspiracy and coincidence, and provides an important – if somewhat neglected – clue to the secret history of our country. The clue is to be found in the New Orleans office of private detective Guy Banister, for seventeen years an FBI SAC (Special Agent in Charge), who ran what seemed to be a clearing house for anti-Castro Cubans and a cover address for Lee Harvey Oswald.

As mentioned in the first part of this series – “The Bishop and the Boys, Part One” – there is a strange underworld milieu surrounding the activity of Oswald in that New Orleans period. This is the mysterious world of the wandering bishops. At one time, there were as many as four “bishops” functioning from Guy Banister’s Camp Street office, and these included virtually all of his investigators, from David Ferrie and Jack Martin to Thomas Beckham and the lawyer Thomas Jude Baumler. Beckham was a bishop with the Universal Life Church, along with his friend Fred Lee Crisman (the man who was involved with the seminal UFO event of the 20th century, the Maury Island affair) and with Raymond Broshears, yet another minister of the Universal Life Church and later with one of the Orthodox sects with lines to Stanley, and who became a well-known gay activist in San Francisco later on. (Broshears would claim, probably falsely, to have lived with David Ferrie in New Orleans; however, it seems certain that he was at least an acquaintance of Ferrie.) In addition, Ferrie, Martin, Beckham, Broshears and Baumler all shared the same apostolic succession: that of Bishop Earl Anglin James in Canada (about whom more later) and of Bishop Carl Stanley of the American Orthodox Catholic Church.

(In the interest of full disclosure, let the reader know that the author was also a minister of the Universal Life Church as a high school student in the Bronx in 1966, as were maybe thousands of other people at the time, attracted by the ads in the back of magazines promising ordination and membership in the Church for a five dollar donation. Oddly enough, his minister’s card was stolen from the wallet in his gym locker one day by perpetrators unknown!)

Carl Stanley had an arrest record, a “rap sheet”, as long as your proverbial arm. Born in Revere, Massachusetts on May 13, 1902, he was first arrested in in Los Angeles on November 22, 1927 for Grand Theft Auto. (Another coinidence. Stanley was first arrested precisely 36 years to the day before the Kennedy assassination.) Following that there were a number of other arrests for violating postal laws by sending obscene material through the mails, and then on May 22, 1939 for assault and battery. He spent a total of 14 months in prison for various offences, as far as I can determine.

On January 11, 1941, however, and for reasons known only to him, Stanley enlisted in the Canadian Army for the duration of World War Two, being discharged on June 20, 1945 and becoming a Canadian citizen on August 5, 1946. He could not stay out of trouble in Canada, however, finding himself arrested once again this time in Ontario in 1947, receiving a six months’ suspended sentence for theft.

Then, in April of 1950, Stanley attempted to enter the United States via Miami, Florida and deportation proceedings began against him. He did not have a US passport or an immigrant’s visa. Since he was a naturalized Canadian citizen – even though he was born in the United States – and lied about his citizenship, the US government decided to deport him. Deportation procedures took a lot of time, but he was eventually deported on February 28, 1954, only to re-enter (illegally) in April of that year. However, he was married – to an American citizen – and consideration was given to allowing him to remain in the United States as the spouse of an American. His criminal record, however, was a problem. According to an INS letter dated October 29, 1965, he had convictions for “larceny, robbery, adultery, assault and battery, receiving stolen property, burglary, sending obscene letters through the mail, nonsupport of family and drunk and disorderly conduct”. The INS, however, took pity on Stanley because of his age (he was 63 in 1965) and they did not contemplate deporting him at that time.

He would be dead in less than two years.

From 1964 to his death, he was a bishop of the newly-formed American Orthodox Catholic Church, having been consecrated by Bishop Earl Anglin James of Canada among others. He, along with Bishops Robert Zeigler, Colin Guthrie, and Homer Roebke, formed the AOCC in the Denver, Colorado area. A photograph in the author’s possession shows the four men dressed in Roman Catholic-style bishop’s regalia. According to my informant, that was all they could afford at the time.

In the same year, Walter Propheta was in New York City forming the East Coast version of the AOCC. In 1967, Propheta was involved with J. Edgar Hoover who evidently installed him as the “primate” of the American Orthodox Catholic Church at a dinner in Manhattan. (This tie between Propheta and the FBI was known to the author from Propheta’s own admission to him in 1968.) Once installed, he advised the other bishops that they had to present their credentials to him to be approved as part of the new AOCC. While the other bishops refused, Stanley eagerly raced to New York City. One wonders what “credentials” this convicted felon offered to Propheta and the FBI, for a month later he was dead ... a few weeks after the controversial death of his bishop, David Ferrie.

Ferrie had been introduced to Stanley by Jack Martin, an investigator with Guy Banister’s detective agency in New Orleans. Martin has been portrayed as a hopeless drunk in Oliver Stone’s film of the assassination, and has been given short-shrift in other studies of the New Orleans connection. Martin himself ratted out Banister, Stanley and Ferrie to the FBI after the assassination when it became clear that District Attorney Jim Garrison was investigating the case. We should not take this all at face value, however, for Martin – even though he pretended to be investigating Carl Stanley – remained a bishop of the American Orthodox Catholic Church for many years after the assassination and until the day he died, even participating in the consecration of Thomas Jude Baumler – a self-admitted fascist and attorney who also worked briefly as an investigator for Guy Banister and as a New Orleans politician in his own right – as late as 1974.

Martin first attempted to have David Ferrie consecrated by another bishop on the East Coast, but the bishop felt that there was something “unholy” about Ferrie, and he declined. Ferrie then went on to Stanley where he was more successful. This occurs in the three year period before the Kennedy assassination.

Then something strange happened.

Immediately after the assassination of President Kennedy in November of 1963, Stanley himself alerted authorities that he thought David Ferrie and Jack Martin were involved. This was what prompted the entire investigation into both Ferrie and the wandering bishops that became the crux (no Latin puns intended) of the Garrison investigation. Why would Stanley have done this? Spite is one possibility, for if Martin’s statements to the authorities are true – and that’s a big “if” – then Stanley had reason to go after Martin since Martin was “investigating” him.

The timeline is suggestive for several reasons. In the first place, the American Orthodox Catholic Church (at least, the version we are discussing) had not yet been created. That would happen less than a year later. Stanley at the time was bishop of something called the Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, as well as of the Byzantine Primitive Catholic Church, Old Catholic Church in North America. (He was joined in both of these operations by one Cyril T. Omarra, about whom the author can discover nothing so far.) Martin claimed to have been investigating Stanley “for several private clients” during the period 1959-1966, and had ordination and consecration certificates from Stanley’s various churches dating from as early as 1960. Yet, Martin was an eager and active participant in the American Orthodox Catholic Church until his death, hardly the position of someone who held a dim view of the organization. Was his politicking against Stanley (and Ferrie) of a piece with what Propheta was doing in New York? Or was there a deeper motive involved, an attempt to divert attention away from someone or something?

That Martin and Stanley had a falling out in 1963 is certain; Stanley’s report to the FBI that year that Martin and Ferrie were involved in a conspiracy to assassinate the President is proof positive of bad blood between them. What doesn’t make much sense is the fact that Martin was a close associate of the other bishops who, together with Stanley, formed the AOCC in 1964, after Stanley dropped the dime on Martin and Ferrie. The whole affair would begin to look like an inspired disinformation operation if it weren’t for the fact that the central characters are so … odd.

Carl Stanley met with Propheta in New York City in early February, 1967 according to information provided to the author by another bishop. David Ferrie died in his New Orleans apartment on February 22, 1967. Ferrie’s associate, Eladio del Valle (an anti-Castro Cuban) was murdered in a parking lot in Miami on the same day. The following day – Feb 23, 1967 – Carl Stanley met with the FBI according to an FBI teletype dated March 9, 1967. (Was this on orders or advice by Bishop Propheta, the FBI-installed "Primate"?) According to the available documentation, he used that opportunity to further slander David Ferrie and Jack Martin. Ferrie, of course, had died just the day before. Clay Shaw was arrested on March 1, 1967. Carl Stanley then died of an apparent heart attack on March 8, 1967 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Ferrie himself was a key witness in the Garrison case against Shaw, and his death was a blow to the investigation and to the trial itself. But Garrison would never have known of Ferrie and his possible involvement in an assassination conspiracy had it not been for Carl Stanley who alerted the FBI concerning Ferrie and Jack Martin’s alleged conspiracy in November of 1963. Thus, the other potential witness and whistle-blower – Carl Stanley – was also dead, fourteen days after Ferrie’s own demise. That left Jack Martin – Bishop John Chrysostom Martin – as the only other living witness to the Stanley/Ferrie nexus.

Jack Martin was in the hospital the night of the assassination, having been pistol-whipped by his boss, Guy Banister, a man who had so many bishops working for him he might as well have been the Pope. (One wonders if Martin’s hospital admission and the police report of his beating by Banister was a last-minute attempt to establish an alibi, since we have Ferrie racing to an ice-skating rink in Texas from New Orleans that same night in what may have been an attempt to establish his.) Banister was an ex-FBI agent of many years’ experience, and one of the first SACs to investigate the West Coast UFOs of 1947. The bishops still living who knew Martin and who have been contacted by the author all agree on one point: that Martin was an excellent source for FBI files on potential candidates for the priesthood for years after the assassination. Leaving aside for the moment why wandering bishops need FBI files on potential priests, and why they would suspect the existence of those files in the first place, let us examine the Jack Martin story in a little more detail since it seems we never really knew him at all.

To Be Continued

The Bishop and the Boys - Part Three: Jack Martin and the Camp Street Cathedral

“Similarly, as with CRISMAN, I think that in the course of the memo the periodic necessary references to the OLD CHURCHES have half answered the question. Applying to this subject the available models, I suggest that the most likely rational conclusion is that here, again – except with more particularity – we have a clandestine substructure developed to serve the intelligence community’s concept of national security.

A bizarre structure, to be sure, but its very strangeness … makes it all the more safe from possible investigators who are looking for spies wearing trenchcoats and carrying, like so many James Bonds, gold cigarette cases. The churches – like all churches – are virtually free from official inquiry by virtue of the Constitution, not to mention American custom. The “ministers” and “ bishops” can accumulate money (religious fund raising) without serious inquiry as to the sources. They are free from the 9 to 5 routine expected of normal, patriotic Americans, free to operate in relative seclusion from the expected social involvements, free to engage in obscure crusades or missions and free to travel extensively … as assignments may dictate. And where, as may be the case in some instances, there may actually be a home structure for the particular church, one would have the most natural of safe houses.”

-- Handwritten memo from New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison to Jonathan Blackmer of the House Subcommittee on Assassinations, dated July 18, 1977 regarding Thomas E. Beckham.

The story of Jack Martin is almost as strange as that of his old friend and fellow clergyman, David Ferrie. With Jack, we are in the same twilight world we are with Ferrie and Oswald. In fact, “Jack Martin” is not even his real name.

Jack S. Martin was born in Phoenix, Arizona on July 1, 1915, but his name at the time was Edward Stewart Suggs. Like Carl Stanley, he eventually developed an arrest record and had served in the US Army during World War II. He became a back-alley abortionist in Houston, Texas after the war and had to flee the state when one of “Dr Suggs’s” patients died as a result of his medical incompetence. The resulting murder charge was later dismissed, however, and Suggs eventually wound up in New Orleans (about 1954) where he became John Stewart Martin, Sr. or, simply, Jack Martin or Jack S. Martin.

Jack Martin is a pretty common name, so perhaps we should not be surprised to see a Special Agent Jack S. Martin appearing on Project Blue Book documents dating back to 1949, years before Edward Suggs changed his name (as far as we know). This particular Jack S. Martin was in California at the same time as our Ed Suggs, but was working for the OSI, or Office of Special Investigations, a department of the US Air Force. This is shown by OSI documents from October 1949 in which S/A Jack S. Martin was investigating UFO sightings in northern California by an Edward W. Gurband, a Roy Oliver Neely, and a Reverend Curtis Daniels that had taken place on August 1, 1949 in the San Francisco area. Our Jack S. Martin, however, is not known to have changed his name that early and, besides, there is no evidence at all that he ever worked for the Air Force. However, just to be devil’s advocate for a moment, there was no US Air Force during World War II; it was known as the Army Air Corps then, so it is possible – just barely possible – that Suggs/Martin did work for the Army Air Corps as an enlisted man or even as military police, but I have been unable to find Suggs’ military record to confirm or deny this possibility. I just leave it here as an unresolved issue. It would be amusing (if not a little unnerving) to discover that both Guy Banister and Jack Martin were investigating UFOs for the government at the same time, though!

Getting back to Suggs, however, we find that he was passing himself off as variously an FBI agent or a CIA agent in the late 1950s and early 1960s, before the Kennedy assassination. An alcoholic, he wound up in a mental ward at New Orleans’ Charity Hospital in January of 1957, with “sociopathic personality disorder, antisocial type”. All during this time he was married to the long-suffering Paula Martin and even had a child, but he was unable to hold down a job for any length of time.

This is a familiar pattern in the Kennedy assassination case. Lee Harvey Oswald had the same track record as a married man with children, unable to hold down a job, and who had been under psychiatric observation (at least, in the Soviet Union). If we are to believe the record, both men had delusions of grandeur and could be considered antisocial sociopaths. And, of course, both had military service and both wound up in New Orleans at the same time, working out of Guy Banister’s Camp Street office. Oswald, however, was not an alcoholic nor was he one of Carl Stanley’s bishops.

As another aside, both Ferrie and Martin were involved in unorthodox medical practices and experimentation. Ferrie’s obsession with curing cancer is well-known and documented, as well as his practice of hypnosis, and Martin had an on-again, off-again fascination with various forms of medicine, homeopathy, chiropracty, hypnosis, and the like.

In 1960, Martin was interviewed by the FBI on charges that he was impersonating an FBI agent. Martin seemed to have offered the Feds a deal in which he would reveal that one Carl J. Stanley of Kentucky was running an illegal operation by furnishing false ordination certificates and other worthless paper. The FBI interviewed Stanley himself, and came away with the opinion that both Stanley and Martin were fruitcakes.

There it would have ended had it not been for the events in Dallas of November, 1963 and a series of bizarre phone calls that took place between Stanley and the FBI, and Martin and the FBI in the hours after the Kennedy assassination.

Sometimes things are just as they seem, even in conspiracy studies. After all, the world is full of drunks, sociopaths, unemployed and unemployable men with delusions of grandeur who await the next big break … or the next big bender. There are men who claim to be agents of the FBI or the CIA who have never even seen one up close. And there are men who defame the character of other men in revenge for imagined wrongs, who then recant their stories in embarrassment when confronted by authority.

This is probably a fair characterization of the conspiracy cases against David Ferrie and Jack Martin. After all, it is entirely possible that neither man had anything at all to do with the assassination or had anything to offer by way of relevant information or evidence. The book by Daniel Hopsicker – Barry and the Boys – does provide additional evidence on the role of David Ferrie and the anti-Castro underground, however, as well as of his presumed ties to US intelligence agencies, most of it in the form of personal interviews with law enforcement personnel and others who knew Ferrie in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and for that reason alone is quite important.

And then there’s Jack Martin.

Jack is portrayed as a hopeless drunk and, indeed, most of the investigators out of Jim Garrison’s office confirm that view. Martin is usually cited as the person who started the entire Garrison investigation rolling by calling the DA’s attention to David Ferrie as a suspect in the assassination. An examination of Martin’s initial statement to the FBI on November 25, 1963, however, reveals that Martin’s information on Ferrie was surprisingly accurate.

He mentioned that Lee Harvey Oswald had been in Ferrie’s Civil Air Patrol squadron and that the two men knew each other, a claim that was contested for years before photographs surfaced showing Oswald and Ferrie together during a CAP outing. In fact, Martin told the FBI that he saw photos of Oswald and Ferrie together at Ferrie’s apartment. He also told investigators that Ferrie had a stock of weapons at his apartment, which was also true.

Further, he had details of Ferrie’s problems with the law in the matter of “crimes against nature” with young boys, and of his penchant for hypnotism. He said that Ferrie had been “educated in a seminary”, which is also true.

In fact, there is probably nothing in that initial report that is wrong.

In the second interview, dated November 27, 1963, Martin insisted that he never said he heard Ferrie say he was going to kill Kennedy. He honestly reported that much of what he knew about Ferrie came from information he obtained from third parties, and that was pretty much the end of it. The only salient points of the two interviews was the information that Ferrie and Oswald knew each other. Later, to District Attorney Jim Garrison, Martin would suggest that Ferrie had hypnotized Oswald to commit the assassination, but that was not presented as a fact but only as conjecture.

Martin, however, was not the only one contacting the FBI concerning the possible relationship of David Ferrie to the assassination. Stanley himself had told the FBI that he suspected Martin and Ferrie of involvement. It was a case of rats turning against each other. But why? Why the Kennedy assassination?

Most critics of the JFK conspiracy theories attack the New Orleans episode as so much smoke. They feel that Jim Garrison’s case had no validity, no credibility. That Ferrie, Martin, Banister, and the rest were all colorful characters but they had nothing to do with the assassination. That Oswald never really visited the Camp Street office of Guy Banister. That he never met any of the individuals with whom he is usually associated: Clay Shaw, David Ferrie, or Guy Banister himself.

But my approach to this case has been somewhat different. I’m not trying to prove anything. I only want to point out the incredible number of coincidences that multiply around this event and to suggest that there is an underlying cause whose very nature escapes us even as it is ubiquitous throughout history, our own personal histories as well as our national one.

Ferrie, Martin and Stanley were turning on each other with reckless abandon in the days after the assassination. It could be said to originate from Jack Martin’s statements to investigators that Ferrie was somehow involved with Oswald, but that’s not nearly the whole case. Something transpired to make everyone nervous. One can pore over the documents and exhibits of the Warren Commission Report for years and not find a similar set of circumstances, where a gang of strange persons turns on each other and squeals to the authorities about their friends’ involvement with the assassination. It’s unique.

In New Orleans, if we believe that Oswald was involved in some way with Banister, he was surrounded by anti-Castro Cubans, gun-runners, and wandering bishops. In Dallas, he is surrounded by Russian émigrés and oil men. The Dallas clique that includes George de Mohrenschildt and Ruth Paine is every bit as strange as the New Orleans “cathedral” at Camp Street. (It’s not for nothing that Louisiana is divided into parishes instead of counties.) We had men with CIA connections in New Orleans around Oswald, and now in Dallas we have more of the same. How many readers of this blog know that many CIA agents?

DeMohrenschildt himself was involved with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, a known center for anti-Communist and specifically anti-Soviet activity and espionage. Yet another Orthodox church in the vicinity of Oswald.

And was Jack Martin really investigating “phony” churches on behalf of the US government? Or was he trying to call someone’s attention to something? Jack Martin remained a bishop with the American Orthodox Catholic Church to the end of his days, even going so far as to bring in another Banister associate, the corpulent attorney and unapologetic racist Thomas Jude Baumler, to the Orthodox fold, consecrating Baumler a bishop in August of 1974, nearly eleven years after the Kennedy assassination and seven years after the beginning of the Garrison investigation and the death of both Stanley and Ferrie.

From personal correspondence with an individual involved with this affair, I learned that Baumler had already been ordained a priest by Stanley years before; in other words, prior to Stanley’s death in March, 1967. Baumler’s status in New Orleans society was assured; he came from an old family and was associated with one of the famous Mardi Gras “crewes”. In addition, according to my informant, Baumler was also a Mason and belonged to the same lodge – the Etoile Polair Lodge of the French Grand Orient – as Mafia don Carlos Marcello, the man for whom David Ferrie was working on the day of the assassination.

My informant goes on to insist that Martin could be relied upon to furnish FBI files on “future applicants for Holy Orders”, a strange capability for a hopeless drunk. It is widely rumored that Martin had a source at FBI headquarters in New Orleans who provided him these files, but he also made it known that he was an investigator for the District Attorney’s office – something of which the DA was presumably not aware! Yet he had an income of some kind, for he was known to travel extensively throughout the United States for years on one errand or another involving the bishops, a true “wanderer”.

What was Baumler’s interest in Carl Stanley and the American Orthodox Catholic Church? Why was it attractive to become consecrated the Bishop of Baton Rouge-New Orleans in this miniscule, obscure church as late as 1974? Soon after his consecration, he went on to consecrate another bishop, this time William Francis Forbes, in October of 1974. And it was Baumler, after all, who told J. Gary Shaw in 1981 that Lee Harvey Oswald worked for Guy Banister. He even told Jim Garrison investigator Harold Weisberg in 1969 that he personally met the elusive Oswald himself.

One of the other bishops of the American Orthodox Catholic Church – Homer Ferdinand Roebke, an associate and colleague of Carl Stanley – consecrated one Forest Ernest Barber on March 7, 1965, less than five months after the Forbes consecration. As I am informed by investigator David Guyatt, Barber was a member of the Augustan Society (an “International Genealogical, Historical, Heraldic and Chivalric Society” with some interesting associations) as well as of the Shickshinny Knights of Malta, a far-right organization and secret society that numbered among its initiates such intelligence notables as the rabid right-winger Major General Charles A. Willoughby (the former Adolf Tscheppe-Weidenbach and member of General MacArthur’s intelligence staff during World War II) as well as Colonel Philip J Corso, a man with a long background in intelligence dating from the war who was the author of The Day After Roswell, a controversial memoire of his experiences in the aftermath of the UFO crash in New Mexico.

Truly, the Guy Banister office at Camp Street in New Orleans could properly be considered a “cathedral” for wandering bishops. And a clearinghouse for spies.

To be continued.

Are you familiar with Holy Innocents church in Harahan, LA? If I'm not mistaken, Metropolitan Paul's (Lee McColloster's) apostolic succussion goes through Bishop Martin. Yet, from all appearances the OCCA seems to be doing good work. Is this an example of something bad transmuting into something good? Any insights? Their website is www.reu.org

Thanks, Dave, for the information and the link!

Yes, the OCCA is in the Jack Martin line of succession. Their 196 page .pdf file is worth looking at for anyone who likes to keep track of these things. I have no idea what the group actually does (one has to be careful of these websites!) but hopefully they are contributing to society in a positive way.

One of the other co-consecrators was Thomas Jude Baumler, according to their site, and he was the rather obese Louisiana lawyer who claimed he knew that Oswald and Ferrie knew each other. Baumler worked as a sometime investigator for Garrison, just as Martin did. Why Baumler would wish to get involved with the church and become a bishop himself is somethig of a mystery, unless maybe he was just bored?

I don't know where you get this crap from. I am currently the Metropolitan primate of Archbishop Walter Propheta's American Orthodox Catholic Church. While it is true that Archbishop Propheta was a staunch anti-communist, it is a sacrilege to his memory to even suggest he was tied up with the assasination of JFK. I personally think you need to go back on your meds for your psychosis and stop slamming the man of God who was Patriarch Walter Propheta. By the way ... there are still some of his clergy remaining alive, and I have been in contact with each of them. They know of your lies, and they refute everything except the anti-communist involvement you spew forth.

Well, I get this crap -- as you put it, Your Eminence -- from (a) personal interviews with Propheta, Christian, Hill, Pierre, DeValitch and others in 1968 and 1969; (:) documents from the National Archives; © documents from the FBI; and (d) interviews -- both oral and written -- with surviving members of the AOCC. I have no idea who you are, or why you claim primateship of a church that essentially fell apart after the deaths of Propheta and Christian; I have also been in contact with someone else who claims to be the head of the AOCC and he never mentioned your name. Sic transit gloria episcopi. I am more than happy to discuss this and anything related to the AOCC with yourself, and the other "bishops" who may be interested. Everything I have published on this subject, however, is supported by the documents. Perhaps you yourself did not know anything about this, which is understandable; but that does not mean that what I have written is false, misleading, or unsubstantiated.

I have a Martin document that consists of a hand-written note by Martin to Garrison regarding Annie R. Patterson,so perhaps he did do some investigating for Garrison.

I might as well post here a revised version of a comment I also left on Gary Buell's blog.

The connections between the (aptly-named?) Camp Street boys and this particular branch of the "Old Catholic" movement are laid out in the interview that Thomas Edward Beckham gave to the HSCA investigators. Having lost most of my files, I no longer have that interview, but you can get a copy -- I think it's available for purchase. (Or ask around; a few JFK collectors probably have it.) It's pretty revealing stuff.

Anyone looking into these matters should first do some preliminary research into the Old Catholic movement. J. Gordon Melton's "Encyclopedia of American Religion" is a good place to start.

We are talking about a small group of residual Jansenist sympathizers (remember the Jesuit-Jansenist thing?) who broke away from the Church of Rome after Vatican I, which proclaimed the infallibility of the Pope. Since there is no central "Old Catholic" leadership, these guys split off into all sorts of different directions, and they took on varying names and varying theologies and made varying unusual alliances.

The American Orthodox Catholic Church is, I believe, just another one of these spin-off groups.

For some reason, Old Catholics -- like certain Gnostics and breakaway Anglicans -- spend a lot of time and energy blathering on and on about who ordained who. Hell if I know why. If you look closely, you'll find that there is some overlap between these three groups. Montague Summers -- a name Levenda will surely recognise -- seems to have been part of this milieu.

In the earlier decades of the 20th century, the Old Catholic movement attracted a lot of Polish Americans, because the Roman Catholic clergy in Polish neighborhoods tended to be exclusively Italian and French.

Being, in essence, leaderless, some Old Catholics "congregations" devolved into a dumping ground for gays attracted to Roman ritual but unwilling or unable to hide their sexual identity. You'll see some examples of this if you do some net surfing.

Various Old Catholic spin-off "churches" (which can be as small as a single individual) also seem to have become involved with the shadowy worlds of criminal activity and covert ops. Basically, for a certain amount of money, anyone could -- and probably still can -- arrange to be ordained as a "Catholic" priest, with the black robe and funny collar and the whole shebang. If you are so ordained, you need not tell people that the "Catholic" church to which you belong is not the Roman Church. Most people don't even know that there are other types of Catholics; let 'em jump to conclusions.

A moment's thought will tell you that this sort of thing can provide GREAT cover for someone operating in a clandestine fashion. If memory serves, there was an "Old Catholic" involved with Ollie North's contra supply effort. OC's show up in a few other spook stories.

Now as I recall (and you had best double-check my fallible memory), Beckham told investigator Jonathan Blackmer that one day Ferrie popped into Bannister's office and told The Gang that they were all going to head up to Canada and become ordained as "Catholic" priests. Which they did. There was a Canadian "Bishop" -- can't recall the name -- who handed out ordinations like Halloween candy -- to anyone who supplied the necessary palm grease.

I really don't know what the exact purpose was. They probably thought that a pseudo-priesthood might provide useful cover for one of their activities.

If you have a willingness to walk on the wild side, you should note that Beckham also brought into the mix some shady characters on the paranormal fringe. I believe Fred Crisman and Frank Stranges were mentioned. Have fun...

Lee, you need to be set straight about a few things.

1. History is just a set of dates and events involving people and places with interesting names to be recited by rote on command.

2. Churches exist solely for the spiritual and social well-being of members as well as the wider public.

3. History records plots, meetings, deals, conversations. These are acceptable terms.

4. Any mention of the "C" word, is ahistorical and may cause the user to see Elvis flipping burgers on a UFO.

Thanks Greg.

I get the picture.

Here's what I find remarkable. Folks can spin all of these connections as bogus fronts created to provide a an agent with a nice cover, plus whatever else it may afford - or, you can beg the same question asked of Kennedy - do we have a conflict of interest and any 'dual allegiances' going on here? And I think the former description is the one that folks will be more interested in swallowing. It's got sugar on it. Ummm - I love sugar.

I think I'll bugger off on the Jesuits stuff - I'm too busy at present with other things. Someone was kind enough to mail me [public] material related to some of the stuff I am interested in, and I don't even know where to begin. Wish someone would just send me the dammed films. I'd promise to scan each and every frame, provide JPEG links to all in chronological order, and create stabilized clips, even close-ups, all on a public webpage for all to enjoy - even on Frigsday. :)

http://www.apfn.net/messageboard/02-04-05/...ion.cgi.51.html

Too lazy to scan and post the entire preface of "Unholy Trinity." It is indeed quite facinating, and well researched and well documented.

In a nutshell, there were numerous priests/Cardinals/etc throughout Europe preceding, during and after WWII that were essentially sympathetic to the aims, views and goals of the Nazi party - then there were collaborators, who may not have necessarily enjoined these views necessarily, but had aims similar to New World Order and unification of a strong Catholic front - which ended up working with the Nazis.

The Soviets and their Communism were seen as the ultimate enemy, and a vast number of spy networks were created - by the Vatican, but in cahoots with British Intel and the Nazis. Well the Americans got into the act a bit late - and God only knows how much intel the British allowed them to have. Following the war, there resulted the direct involvement on the part of many powerful priests to enable the escape of notorious Nazi war criminals - some of this was done in collusion with both British and American Intel - and of course we had the resulting influx of thousands of Nazis into the Americas, along with all of the scientific data we could lay our hands on for the US - which led to an enormous number of 'discoveries' in the US that history fails to credit the appropriate parties with inventing. Of course the Soviets were playing the same game, and part of the angle was that the Vatican wasn't inclined to allow these war criminals to be used for propaganda purposes by Tito's communist Yugoslavia. However, there is of course more to it, since the Vatican was riddled with Nazi Ustashi [Card Carrying Members], who were working actively to continue to promote their aims - despite how ungodly and wrong it was. And the authors of the book provide numerous sources which indicate that the Vatican was aware of these activities and had their blessing, all the way to the highest order, despite denials from the Church.

Well, what transpired along with all of this disgusting history, aside from pointing out the very impressive and highly functional spy network being run by the Vatican - via the Jesuits, as well as by the Ustashi creeps [through groups like the IRC], was that the Japanese Intel [via Richard Sorge] and other Soviet sources [Prince Turkul and Kim Philby, not to mention top spymaster 'Klatt'] had thoroughly penetrated not only the Vatican network, but also the Nazis - including Gehlen's network, the M16 and the CIA. So while everyone thought that they were playing their own games and singing their own song, they were cleverly being manipulated and thoroughly penetrated by the reds.

When Angleton and Dulles recognized the extent of the damage, it was too late - say the authors. They scrambled frantically to change up ops and shifted resources and funding to groups that Philby had rejected, only to discover that these groups were also GRU owned. Nixon was brought on, say the authors, to work some of the issues with respect to an enormous cover-up. They new were the Ustashi Nazis were, but Nixon protected them - and while Watergate released information that brought about Nixon's resignation, the deeper and more severe material with respect to the US involvement in being duped by the GRU and smuggling in thousands of hardcore Nazis and Communist Nazi infilitrators, remained a secret.

Preface, page xiv

"It was a humiliating debacle. By 1959, the United States had lost every courier, safehouse, and intelligence network behind the Iron Curtain. The intelligence scandal was swept quietly under the rug, just as the Vatican scandal before it. The Soviets kept quiet about the religious scandal because the Vatican's Nazi-smuggling provided aa deadly method to infiltrate Western Intelligence."

Enter Lee Harvey Oswald. Among the many operational assignments that have been theorized about Oswald, I find it plausible that Oswald, acting in the capacity of an agent, would have had several assignments over the course of the years. Among these assignments, the defection to the USSR.

Some possibles:

- the goal of obtaining intelligence on the Chinese radar technology that allowed them to track an alitiude as high as the U2 was flying - hence the Minox camera.

- General intel on the Soviet Union, the factory at Minsk.

- the marriage of convenience to Marina and the return to the States.

- the penetration of the FPCC with the goal of discrediting it.

- the attempted infilitration of INTERPEN and associated anti-Cuban exile groups.

- the alleged infilitration of immigrating Cuban exiles to root out any potential G2 double agents, associated with the House of Unamerican Activities.

- the infiltration and monitoring of the White Russian population of Dallas.

Just some thoughts. The bizarre relationship between the Vatican, US Intel, the Gehlen network and the M16 is worth noting. As is perhaps the creation of the DRE from young Catholic students:

http://cuban-exile.com/doc_101-125/doc0117.html

The group was formed by Alberto Muller, Ernesto Travieso, and Juan Manual Salvat, young Catholic students at the University of Havana, in February 1960. They protested the visit of the Anastas Mikoyan, the Soviet deputy foreign minister. They battled with pro-Castro activists near the statue of Jose Marti in Havana's Parque Central. Later that spring they were expelled from the University in hearings presided over by Castro's campus enforcer, Rolando Cubela.

Wasn't it Dick Russell's informant in TMWKTM who described something with the word "WHITE" and "BIBLE"

contained in it's name that was important? Like the Church of the Creator's WHITE CHRISTIAN BIBLE perchance?

Eventual WC interviewee Dr. Revilo P. Oliver was involved with the violent Church of the Creator movement

in the Chicago area. There was also Anastase Vonsiatsky's association with the Manhattan based "White Russian

Fascist Bible School" as well mentioned in The Russian Fascists by John J. Stephan. Sounds like a nice place.

A little Fascism... a little Bible reading... then time for punch and cookies with the Cross and the Swastika?

Annie is pictured with the Russian Orthodox priest who ran the place in the book. Worth checking it out.

Does MacDonald ever name the Intel agency that he was in contact with, that finally helped connect him with Saul? Was it a continuation or splinter of some kind from Intermarium? I don't have Appointment in Dallas.

Lee, please don't "bugger off" on the Jesuits. I have read allegations that the Vatican and the Jesuits knew Kennedy was going to be hit. They did not like his politics. But they kept publicly quiet about it. Supposedly, that little fat creep, Cardinal Spellman, knew and was glad again to be the main Catholic in the United States. Or at least that's how he viewed himself. No, the upper echelons of Catholicism did not like Kennedy. I went to a Jesuit college. They hate women. Please keep investigating them. Do you know about Malachy Martin?

No clue what Malachy Martin is - however I have come across Cardinal Spellman's name many times. He is mentioned in Unholy Trinity as having delivered the message that 'quisling' Bishop Rozman could find sanctuary in the United States - that despite US and British intel having officially decided that he was one of the real criminals that had to be handed over to Tito. Spellman also led some kind of propaganda campaign with respect to false accusations against Nazi criminals living in the US.

I have always been interested in the Jesuits - just not enough info. I pulled together some stuff someplace, but then never got around to putting it all together. One particular Jesuit connection that has been covered on the Forum before is the one concerning Dr Jose Rivera. There are certain schools that are affiliated with the Jesuits that also come quickly to mind - with respect to connections with the assassination. For example - the alleged Lake Pontchartain film of a 'camp' that may have all been some form of propaganda piece [from what I took away from Baker's books] - discovered and vanished at Georgetown University. Oswald and his lecture for his Jesuit cousin. Loyola and Rivera. The other Rivera that claimed he was an infilitration agent of the Jesuits [Chick publications].

Still stuck with why Fermin de Goicoechea would bother penetrating the International weekend [if it was Fermin], with it's 'Religion in the modern state' theme, unless there was some kind of hidden agenda. I think I may have mentioned someplace else about concerns about dual allegiances. Apparently it is not enough that our current President does not have to talk about his membership in a secret society - for example. Amazing. This should be grounds for dismissal.

The information provided in Unholy Trinity provides sufficient precedent for application of a unified Church and expansion of Catholicism in opposition to the godlessness of Communism following WWII, here in the US - where they loosed thousands of criminals instead of putting them on trial and executing them for the murder and torture of thousands of innocents. But since the Pope could justify it, I guess it must be okay. Last point on this note, it was humorous to note that the assistance provided to the Nazis fleeing retribution and justice was not handled by the Church, per se, but by Rogues - as per the official church view - sound familiar?

Lee, Malachy Martin was a Jesuit who turned on them because he saw sex and devil worshipping going on in the Vatican. And that they killed Pope John Paul I via poison. He wrote a series of books about the Jesuits, but I think in a novelistic form. Have not read them yet. Malachy told the Pope (not sure which one, but I think in the '70's) he was giving up his vow of poverty and some other vow, but was going to keep his vow of celibacy. (Cynically I wonder if he just couldn't get it up anymore -- how easy.) The worst thing he could done was share intimacy with a woman. No, they don't like that.

Kathy

With all due respect, your description of Malachi Martin is a little inaccurate. Malachi Martin was before his death, still very much involved with matters having to do with the Catholic Church, when Pope John Paul II visited Cuba before his death Malachi Martin worked with CNN assisting in the coverage of the Papal Trip.....

He was probably the most knowledgeable Catholic priest of the 20th Century insofar as his ability to write not only of "Hidden Catholic History" but other psuedo-taboo topics such as Freemasonry, P-2 Red Brigades, etc....The book "The Key's Of This Blood" is literally the only book which deals with the affairs of geopolitics in a religious context and its impact on the future......The Chapter on the Champions of Globalism, is a far more informative expounding on the The Seven Wise Men, but religion is not a popular topic for many on the Forum.

Getting back to the Catholic Church in relation to the JFK Assassination, I believe other than Cardinal Spellman's hardcore conservatism re Vietnam and anti-Communism in general there is not much to gravitate upon, and I am more than passingly familiar with the Vatican ratlines which are extremely important in revealing how there was a component within the Catholic Church in the post-war era that aided in the emigration of some particularly evil little men to less unhospitable areas of the globe.....As a matter of fact, my personal belief is that the fascist connections to the JFK Assassination need to be more vigorously studied to obtain a clearer focus on the contextual playing field of the JFK Assassination controversy.

In that vein I would add that, Mae Brussel's Nazi Connections to the JFK Assassination, while being groundbreaking research in its era, stands in need of a more updated, version replete with specific persons relations with the intelligence agencies of the United States, with particular emphasis on Allen Dulles, James Angleton and William Harvey.

U.S. Intelligence and the Nazis - Richard Breitman, Norman J.W. Goda, T. Naftali, R. Wolfe Cambridge Univ Press 2005

American Swastika - Charles Higham -Doubleday - 1985

There are a myriad of theories and suspects in the JFK Assassination, I am not singling out "a fascist group as the culprits, but do believe they were involved.......

As far as religious figures go, I find Billy James Hargis, Edgar Eugene Bradley, Carl Mcintyre, et cetera much more intruiging, than the Catholic Church in general

Robert, there is of course not one tiny scintilla of evidence linking Hargis, Bradley or McIntyre to the assassination. None, nada, zip. zilch. Sorry.

A group which detested JFK and had demonstrated its willingness to commit political murders and ought NOT be ruled out is the KKK, of course.

Speaking of the Southern racists, does anyone recall who suggested that at some future period the civilized races of man "will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races"?

If one wants to divide everyone in to one of two binary groups, I guess that's as good a methodology as any!

All three U. S. presidential candidates fall, of course, into the same category but then there are I guess degreees of support for the free enterprise system.

But Dulles' quotation does seem inartful particularly if it was meant to imply that all Christians support the free enterprise system. Christianity is not of course dependent on one's allegiance to a branch of economic theory.

I am a little leery about posting this here, but this is topically, the most synonymous with the subject matter.

I have a project I have been working on for awhile, it is basically a review of all the 1,555 WC Documents, or, as many as possible.

So, it is very often that I run across things that are fairly obscure.

The following certainly qualifies.

One of the most obscure Warren Commission documents is CD 718

also see 2 HITS AT NARA;

http://www.nara.gov/...221/jfksnew.txt

The document is in relation to U S Army Sgt. Joseph M. Brinski RA 3730698L

who apparently sent a handwritten letter to Earl Warren, some sixteen pages in length.

The letter is, for myself very, very, difficult to read. But in it, he titles his "report," if you will, Operation Backtrack.

I will be very clear in stating that there are dozens if not more of crackpot, incoherent and downright insane documents, mostly letters

sent by persons, who told the FBI "that God told" he or she that JFK was going to be assassinated, and variations thereof.

Some, in my estimation are deliberate wild goose chases.

For all I know Brinski's letter is more of the same, but I cannot read his writing enough to really say.

The point is, a bulletin of Saint Bruno's Catholic Church accompanied his letter, and the main point of interest for myself is that the Church itself, has a

compelling history. The following is posted on the Church's website. I could make out enough of Sergeant Brinsk's letter, to identify references to Route 66,

Oswald and that he appears to have quite a tale to tell, [sixteen pages] irrespective of whether there is a word of truth to his allegations or not.

But at this late juncture, I have come to believe that a certain amount can be gleaned that is factual about the backdrop of the assassination, even by

delving into persons constructing deliberate disinformation, under certain circumstances. Hoping this might be one of them.

In 1906 Rev. James Cooper, Pastor of St. Michael's Church, Oceanview, (near San Jose and Alemany Blvds.) began to celebrate Mass in Cody's Hall San Bruno.

Detective Cody of the San Francisco Police Department owned buildings on the corner of Mills and San Bruno Avenues. One of these buildings was a stable where Mr. Cody kept a span of horses. Over this stable was a dance hall known as Cody's Hall. This is the place were the first Mass was said in San Bruno. The building was later converted into a residence and is still standing.

In 1907 a number of Catholics formed themselves into a committee for the purpose of raising funds and whatever else was necessary towards the formation of a parish. Members of this committee were: Miss Mercy Silva, Joseph Huff, Albert Conturri, J.J. Jones, and Mrs. J. Valentine.

The Silva family donated the 50 foot lot on the corner of San Bruno and Hensley Avenues--the site of the old church. Money was also raised through monthly collections and from the Catholic people of the community.

The Committee met Archbishop Patrick Riordan in San Mateo. After complimenting the people for their laudable work, which was unique in his experience, he promised to look into the matter.

In 1907, the Parish of St. Catherine, Burlingame, was formed, with Rev. James A. Grant its pastor, and San Bruno was designated its Mission.

Construction of the first St. Bruno's Church was begun at the close of 1908 under the supervision of Rev. James Grant. Ground was broken on Friday, November 13, 1908.

History gives the following names of parishioners who worked on the buildings: J.J. Maloney, Foreman; A.A. Loreaux, Roofing; A.A. Pudsey, Electrical Installation; Thomas Brady, Wm. Fairbanks, Patrick Kane, John Moni, Nick Powers, Bob Valentine and Frank Valentine

A Solemn High Mass was celebrated. Officiating at the Mass were:

Rt. Rev. John W. Brockhage

Very Rev. Henry A. Ayrinhac, S.S.D.D.

Rev. James A Grant

Rev. John J. Harrington

The Knights of Columbus and members of the Young Men's Institute were present in a body, and the choir of St. Catherine's Church, Burlingame sang the Mass.

Old St. Bruno's Church was designed along the lines of the early California Missions with the motif of MISSION SANTA BARBARA prevailing, it was designed by Architect J.J. Foley.

The Church Bell, cast in 1886 by the W.T. Garratt & Co. of San Francisco, was erected in the belfry in the church. It was rung every Sunday one half hour before Mass and again at the beginning of Mass. Pioneers say it could be heard all over San Bruno. This ritual was followed until the mid forties. Then was only rung on special occasions.

Rev. James A Grant administrated St. Bruno's as a mission of St. Catherine's, Burlingame, from 1908 to 1912. He secured four lots and supervised the building of the first Catholic Church in San Bruno. Father Grant died in 1926. He had become a well known figure and his passing was marked by the greatest funeral attendance in the history of the county.

In 1912 St. Bruno's became a separate parish, Rev. William J. Cantwell was first resident pastor and remained until 1916. During his pastorate he secured real estate, erected the original parochial residence, secured the organ and statues for the church, and did the street work and sidewalks on the church grounds.

Rev. Thomas P. Heverin was pastor from 1916 to 1929. The remainder of the unimproved lots were secured. Father Heverin's chief objective was the reduction of the parish dept. This he did gradually during his pastorate. Protestant people of the community often spoke of Father Heverin with affection and respect. They recalled in particular his devotion to victims of the "Flu Epidemic" no matter what their creed.

Rev. Thomas Crimmins was appointed pastor in 1929 and remained until 1931. His most effective accomplishment as pastor was a complete re-organization of the parish.

Rev. Peter E. Doyle was the fourth pastor. He remained at old St. Bruno's for (27) years. Father Doyle was ordained on June 14, 1908 at St. Patrick's College, Carlow, Ireland. His brother was a priest and sister was a nun. He was influential in organizing a CYO Baseball team in the parish and forming Cub Pack #38. His greatest accomplishment was in 1949 when with the help of the parishioners, the only Catholic School in San Bruno was built, on Oak Avenue. It is now know as St. Robert's School. His death came on the same morning that the last Masses were said in the old Church. Father Doyle died December 24th, 1959. The Church Bell was rung for the last time at his funeral Mass. An estimated 100 priests attended the funeral.

Rev. Robert J. Hennessy was appointed Administrator, 1955. He was responsible for the establishment of the second parish in San Bruno, where he (was) Pastor.

Rev. John G. O'Connell was pastor from 1958 to 1963. He purchased six homes. three were removed to make way for the new St. Bruno's Church and parking lot. The landscaping of the Church grounds was personally supervised by Father O'Connell. He also remodeled the Parish Rectory. The doors of the present St. Bruno's were opened for the first time with a Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve December 24th, 1959. Reardon Construction of San Francisco erected the Modern Mission style St. Bruno's Church. The Old Church was torn down to make way for a parking lot in 1960. The bell was saved and given a permanent home and can be seen on the North side of the church.

Rev. James J. Barry was pastor from 1963 to 1964. He was Chaplain for the 91st Division (Reserve) stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco and took care of the spiritual and family problems of approximately 3000 men. He was Pastor at Half Moon Bay prior to St. Bruno's. Death came suddenly on July 13, 1964.

In 1968 Rev. Hugh P. McKenna was the Administrator of St. Bruno's and Rev. Frank J. Brady was the Assistant Pastor. There were approximately 800 Catholic families in the parish and 300 children enrolled in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, which was taught by Sister Cyril of the Helpers of the Holy Souls and many dedicated laymen and laywomen. In addition to the Legion of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Men's Club, Holy Name Society, and Carthusians there was a very active Women's Guild. Eventually it is hoped that these groups will have a parish hall to share for their many necessary and most worthwhile projects. Perhaps this will be accomplished with your support during 1969, the 63rd year of St. Bruno's Parish.

Below are a couple of partial sentences, I was able to decipher. Fortunately, the Church bulletin is a real one that is very easy to read.

I am not good at reading certain styles of handwriting, but there may be someone here who does not find it at all hard to read.

Farther down on 66th, I tried to find back alley hotel where there was a sign "Room 1.25"...The Yucca cafe because I aborted

In closing I wish to state the [Ridge?] was the same Lee Harvey Oswald.......

In submitting this Report for you and Committee's investigation.......

as I stated before possibly no one but Mrs. Oswald ........

Joseph Michael Bronski, 92, died at home in Sandwich, IL on Sept. 6, 2007.

He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Chicago, to the late John and Frances, nee Kata, Bronski.

He was born in an area called Bucktown, named for the buckwheat that was the predominant crop grown by the farmers there at that time.

When Joseph was 2 and one-half years old, his mother died as a result of the flu pandemic.

His father later married Frances' younger sister, Stella Kata.

His family, not having much money, lived in several homes on Robey Street and Mansfield Avenue in Chicago.

Joe enjoyed playing the violin, fishing and raising pigeons.

A favorite pastime during his adolescent years was playing tennis; he won the sectional quarterfinals in Chicago.

Joe graduated from Senn High School in June of 1932.

He wanted to attend college dearly, and, at a cost of $5.00, applied for admission to Crane College in Chicago.

But the year 1932 marked the height of the Great Depression; Crane College closed its doors only one week after Joe applied for admission.

Around that time, Joe also was interested in a girl who lived across the alley from his home.

That girl was Josephine Frances Dudziak.

Their first date occurred when they attended the Fourth of July celebration together at Portage Park in Chicago.

After dating for four years, they were married on June 27, 1936, and celebrated with a party in the basement of Joseph's parents' home at 2923 Mansfield Avenue.

The day after their wedding, they both returned to work.

During his first year of marriage, Joe worked for the Stewart Warner Corporation in Chicago, earning $12.99 for a 35-hour week.

For fun, the newlyweds would spend their time together hunting for mushrooms in local forests.

A big achievement in Joe's life occurred when he took a test to gain employment at the Chicago Post Office.

During the test, he saw row after row of men taking the exam, and decided that his chances of gaining employment were minimal.

He left the examination room with his test incomplete, yet he still scored so highly that he was chosen to become one of twelve "Knights of the Round Table." This coveted and challenging position required that he learn the changing train schedules for the entire country, as mail was delivered by train at that time.

After working for the Chicago Post Office for 14 years, he transferred to the Wheaton Post Office, from which he retired in 1969, at age 55.

Joe then was employed by Oak Electric in Downers Grove, IL, until his retirement from that position in 1985.

Additionally, Joe always ran his own businesses throughout his life by selling works of his labor.

He made wooden toys, grew vegetables, apples and Christmas trees; and raised rabbits and three types of fishing bait.

In 1950, Joe and his wife, Josie, purchased two acres of land in Lombard and together built their home themselves, board by board.

There they grew a huge garden that included every vegetable imaginable, and an orchard of apple, cherry, peach and pear trees.

They reaped every possible benefit from their labor of love, canning profusely, and learning how to make their own wine.

They happily shared their bounty by entertaining extended family frequently, especially during the summer months.

Joe and Josie traveled extensively across the United States by airplane for one year, taking advantage of an unlimited yearly travel plan that was then available.

In 1976, Joe and his wife greatly enjoyed their special trip to Hong Kong, China and to Thailand, where they visited their son, Chester, who was then stationed in Bangkok.

In 1997, having spent the majority of his married life in Lombard, IL, Joe and his wife moved to their present home in Sandwich, IL. Joseph was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church, most recently a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sandwich.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years; his daughter, Frances Rheintgen of Downers Grove and her children, Steven, Michael and Robert; his son, Stanley and wife, Karen, of LaValle, WI, and Stanley's son, Ken; daughter, Kate and her husband, Stan Roth, of Yardley, PA, and their sons, Joseph M. (named for the deceased) and Franklin; one half-sister, Bernadine Dziem of Des Plaines; and one half-brother, Arthur and his wife, Barbara Bronski of Chicago; his former granddaughter-in-law, Naomi Bronski of Waterman; and his granddaughter-in-law and favorite chef, Luisa Bronski of Sandwich; and a special caregiver, Linda Maye of Sandwich.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Bronski; his stepmother, Stella Bronski; one son, Chester Bronski; one grandson, Jeffrey Bronski; his sister, Sophie Urbanski; half-sisters, Adeline Wise and Cecilia Rezutko and half-brother, John Bronski.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept.

10, 2007 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 110 N. Eddy Street, Sandwich, IL 60548 with Fr. Jack T. Heraty officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Sandwich.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Catholic Church or to DeKalb County Hospice, 2727 Sycamore Road, Suite 1B, DeKalb, IL, 60115.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 atBurkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, where a Prayer Service will be held at 2:15 p.m. For more information or to sign the online guest book please go to http://www.turnerburkhartfh.com/Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home, 606 E.
