David Talbot wrote on Facebook today: Now that the National Archives has finally begun to release thousands of the long-withheld JFK documents, as they are legally required to do by October of this year, we'll see if any gaps in the assassination conspiracy are filled in. I've been pushing the CIA to release documents related to William Harvey, who was head of the agency's assassination program and a Kennedy-hater. As readers of "The Devil's Chessboard" know, Harvey's deputy in the CIA's Rome station -- which Har...vey took over in summer 1963 --later revealed that he spotted Harvey on a plane to Dallas not long before the assassination. Harvey's travel records, which are still in the possession of the agency, could confirm his itinerary in the key months and weeks leading up to the assassination of the president. I just received one CIA document dated August 1963 that indicates Harvey was indeed planning a return trip from Rome to the U.S. at that time. Harvey was one of the prime suspects of House Select Committee on Assassination investigators in the 1970s. We need to know his exact whereabouts in fall 1963. The CIA must finally come clean about Harvey with this latest document release. As I've posted earlier, I believe Harvey's assignment was to recruit the professional snipers from the European criminal underground. Those he recruited were possibly connected to the Corsican Mafia and the far-right Secret Army Organization that tried for years to assassinate Charles de Gaulle. In fact, the French president was convinced that JFK was killed by "the same people who tried to kill me." I think Harvey went to Dallas sometime that fall, before the assassination, to scout the terrain so he could help select the sniper positions and confer with people on the ground there. Despite CIA efforts to smear him during the 1970s Congressional investigations, Harvey was no rogue. Any assassination plotting he engaged in was approved by those above him in the chain of command. He was a loyal and highly regarded CIA officer, and a patriotic American, who no doubt believed that this act of treason was for the good of the country.

Here is what I know. For a ...few who were lucky enough to start downloading at 8 AM eastern, they were able to get the first zip file on the former partially released docs. There are over 3000 docs in that zip. I was too late. For the newly released docs I was able to download 1 of 9, 2 of 9 and 4 of nine. I understand that this is true for many of my contacts. Understand that although the XLS spreadsheets can be downloaded, they are of little use unless you can download the associated zip file with all of the PDFs. The information in the spreadsheets is minimal, and this is a big problem when one "document" is really 60 pages with forty documents in reality. Once I get things rolling, with Alan Dale's help we will share with others, including CAPA, Lancer et al, to make available on the AARC website and my 2017 JFK site and others, the zip files or some other alternatives that work. In the absence of NARA fixing the situation quickly, this may be the best option we have.

Angleton explained to Roberts that, intelligence services create stories inside stories, each with its carefully constructed trail of evidence, in order to create false trails as diversions. Such painstaking work can serve a variety of purposes … Then if the official story gets into trouble, the backup story can be released in order to deflect attention into a new false story or to support the original story.

From the artice: On the afternoon of Nov. 22, 1963, Don Reynolds, the Maryland broker who had written the life insurance policy for Johnson, was telling investigators for the Senate Rules Committee that he had been pressured to buy advertising time on an Austin television station owned by Johnson—even though the insurance salesman was unknown in Texas and could hardly expect to generate business there. “And on November 22 … after lunch, in the Senate Rules Committee investigation [of] Bobby Baker, Don Reynolds was going to really spill his guts. But when President Kennedy was killed, it basically killed the Baker investigation. You know, President Johnson acted like he did not know me. … I think the Reynolds testimony plus the absolute hatred of Bobby Kennedy of Johnson [would have forced LBJ off the 1964 Democratic ticket if Kennedy had lived].
