  11. Jordan Peterson reminds me of Lyndon LaRouche. Both give the appearance of having the Truth and will not tolerate criticism. It would prove difficult to have a conversation with them. Good ideas they might have are undermined by their dominating demeanor.
  12. Thomas L Friedman, who I admire for his being always right on vital issues, has a column in The New York Times today that could have been written by Jordan Peterson. Its title is "Putin is on to us." I unable to provide a working link to the column but here are the first two paragraphs that give you the gist. My hope is that Biden and NATO leaders are well aware of Putin's strategy and have plans to foil its effectiveness. As the Russian Army continues to falter in Ukraine, the world is worrying that Vladimir Putin could use a tactical nuclear weapon. Maybe — but for now, I think Putin is assembling a different weapon. It’s an oil and gas bomb that he’s fusing right before our eyes and with our inadvertent help — and he could easily detonate it this winter. If he does, it could send prices of home heating oil and gasoline into the stratosphere. The political fallout, Putin surely hopes, will divide the Western alliance and prompt many countries — including ours, where both MAGA Republicans and progressives are expressing concerns about the spiraling cost of the Ukraine conflict — to seek a dirty deal with the man in the Kremlin, pronto.
  13. I'm glad to learn that. He must realize that now such a visit is impossible. No need to add a Canadian to the two Americans being held there against their will. Imagine being in Russia if or when Putin is overthrown, or the Russian people revolt in mass.
  14. I would be interested in finding out whether Peterson has ever visited Russia. One's perspective changes with a visit. I spent two weeks Russia in 1974 and visited Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev and Odessa. Our small group of lawyers and their wives attended a trial in Kiev where three fearsome looking female judges presided. It was scary. We were invited inside the Kremlin and also went through Lenin's tomb. Three of us were on Russian television although we did not know that we were being filmed at the time. This was intermission at a symphony. All the Russians rushed out to the foyer because there was food. We did not know that and stayed in our seats. When we got back to the hotel, we found that we were on TV because the intermission was filmed. The symphony show was played over and over again as there were no commercials and nothing else to watch. Our wonderful KGB guide's face turned pale the next morning when we told her that we had been on TV. Once she understood she relaxed. She was afraid for a moment that we had done something that reflected badly on her. That was the Soviet Union at the heart of the cold war. Now Russia in returning back to those terrible days, leaving the modern world and returning to a total dictatorship. If Peterson has not visited Russia, it is too late. Visiting there now would lead to arrest and a show trial and a long prison sentence. The West has its problems but it sure beats living in Russia by a million light years.
  15. Peterson doesn't talk about it will take Russia two or three decades to get back to where it was in February 2022 when it launched the war against Ukraine. Russia's military has been shown to be pathetic. Its best and brightest people have fled the country. All the major corporations pulled out and will never return, Russia is a pariah. Peterson only focuses upon the West and its problems, which pale against those of Russia. Peterson does not have a genuine mind for geopolitics.
  16. HARPER'S MAGAZINE November 2022 Cover title: Why Marilyn Monroe Matters Article title: Some Like It Hot: Notes from the Marilyn Appreciation Society (eight pages in length) By Sophie Lewis "Blonde, a Pulitzer finalist and unsparing, self-conscious attempt at a great American novel, sets out to fictionalize the entire life of the star, also at a distance, beginning with Monroe's traumatic childhood and ending in her lurid murder by an FBI sharpshooter. The author's general theme is mythic: presenting the universal, eternal abuse of Woman. The resulting saga is hellish -- 'Why,' the question is posed, 'did the world want to jam itself to the bloody hilt like a great tumescent sword in Marilyn' -- and the protagonist is kind of void: the author often calls her 'the Blond Actress,' 'the Girl,' 'the Girl with No Name,' and 'the Beggar Maid'. She is 'trapped on this blond mannequin with the face.' [Author Joyce Carol] Oates's archetype, as such, does little else than gaspingly suffer. Alone in the bathhouse, JFK says to Marilyn: 'You're alive to be touched. To be breathed upon like a flame. Alive to be hurt, even.' "After Oates saw a rough cut of the film adaption, directed by Andew Dominik, in the summer of 2022, she called it 'brilliant,' and expressed surprise that it was an "utterly 'feminist' interpretation.'"

  22. As I posted here earlier this month, Alexander Vindman told the Progressive Forum in Houston on Oct. 13 that the threat of nuclear war was minimal because Russia had to take six steps before making its final decision to use nuclear weapons. I then sent an email to a Wall Street Journal reporter suggesting that she interview Vindman about this. Today the WSJ released this video detailing the steps Russia must take before its final decision: The Mechanics of Russia’s Nuclear Arsenal, Explained | Watch (msn.com)
