  1. a book that might be of interest is: Brogan, Patrick and Zarca, Albert. Deadly Business: Sam Cummings, Interarms, and the Arms Trade. New York: W.W. Norton, 1983. 384 pages.
  2. all good stuff, John. Don't suppose you watch "The Simpsons" but last night was episode of Mr. Burns (Hughes) flying that plywood seaplane. I guess an example of history finding its way into popular culture.
  3. Who supplied the FALs? What dealer? Thx
  4. Bummer, James. That must explain why I couldn't post pdfs when Tosh was here. Wonder why, maybe John can help. I like this compact format for articles as you can scroll continuously on one download. I hope you can post this article. I wasn't into all this in 1975 but alot was eeking out between the WC and HSCA, stuff I'm catching up on. I'd sure like to know how the author(s) came to their conclusions without any direct interviews with the sources. If it's so widely thought Hall was an FBI snitch and the guys in the field didn't trust him, why does he become so prominent in this article? As if he is the man who had all the answers. A man who couldn't stay out of trouble is also a man who might say anything for his own benefit. I'd sure like to discuss that with the authors at Tattler and find out why they chose to believe what they wrote? Of course the important point is "consider the source" which is as important as the facts we've all gathered and discussed here. We can't know much unless we find the interviewers and interviewees. Perhaps you can post the part with the WR Robbinson. No doubt in my mind Howard was saying Rip was leasing the camps and language/spelling was either mixed up (there are many bad spellings in this article as you can see) or the authors were disguising the name. Howard was telling the truth or just tossing names out there? What does Larry think, since you were discussing the possibililty of Rip being at some of these camps? I believe Rip was making appearances as I think Rip was a warrior who preferred interacting with these young soldiers on the front lines of Castro destabilization program. It fits with his characterization in other sources and why he would defy orders with Gray and land on the beach during BOP. This act was a nod to who was really behind the invasion like a "to hell with Washington" from the men closest to the exile pawns. And Hall in Rhodesia? Crazy stuff and worth looking into. No doubt Hemming could share his input. Thanks as always. Brown is still around (SOF's in Colorado) and maybe could shed some light on this.
  5. James I'll scan and mail. Maybe you can put it up here. It's worth a look for sake of debate at least, still wish I knew more about Tattler and the author of this.
  6. James, Gordon sent me the Sept 1975 Tattler article. I'd heard about it but not read it. Has a few errors. Do you know who wrote it? Doesn't seem to be a name on it. Lawrence Howard claimed CIA leased the land from a Wilma Weldon and W.R. Robbinson, plans changed and later Masferrer got into it. Has anyone done any research on this article or the writers and genesis? It relies on Hall info for much of story but Hall is not interviewed. I'm interested in the contents of the article and how it got passed around with other stuff at time that led to the opinions about No Name we see today?
  7. Well, I posted my Jack Anderson stuff in the wrong thread, apparently. Anyway, Shanet where was Jack Anderson during the McCarthy hearings?
  8. Just some anecdotal stuff in here. When my sister began a grad student project many years ago, on my father/Secret Cuba War etc., she contacted Anderson. He refused any help to her. Years later we met with Andrew St. George who told us that a journalist never refuses their ?benefactor? government. In fact, you can benefit from being "embedded" as they call it now. So what this says to me is that journalists will not look into the horse's mouth, however that saying goes, without some understanding of their source as in the case of Bob Woodward suspicions even today. Researchers are wise to "consider their source" as well as research the factual material. I'd like to post an article from 1975 Tattler about No Name, to illustrate some of this. Perhaps you can help me, as I was unable to post attachements before when Tosh was posting. Thanks
  9. interesting info Dawn. You'll find Whitehouse on this government blacklist from Gordon's site, here, just FYI http://cuban-exile.com/doc_101-125/doc0110.html
  10. Absolutely, John. The assassination occured in two parts: The Killing & The Cover Up and damage control. These were IMO, not the same people.
  11. Let me see if I have this right Seth Kantor says he got a call from Hendrix giving rundown on LHO (22nd?) then the B. Y. Photos officially picked up on 23rd, from this batch (I assume) was a photo LIFE scooped up either after or along with Z-film and later published. (when ? anybody?) I'll also assume Joannides was behind the DRE advertisement (on 23rd) as he was CIA liason to DRE. So that makes three journalists (Kantor, Hendrix and Billings) and one operations officer (Joannides) who are onto the LHO"communist" story PDQ. Joannides was heading off something? Have to ponder this a bit. Trying to think what happened next, oh a bunch of stuff -- then LIFE representative and liason to DRE get close to Blakey's HSCA, but that's another chapter (wink) Thanks James for your input, I know this is pretty elemental stuff, I need a review in this area and to read Larry's book.
  12. Christy, The piece was published on the 23rd of November, 1963. I gather that Bringuier was very keen to get this out early. I guess while everyone else was glued to their television sets that weekend, Bringuier was locked away producing copy; unless of course it was already prepared but that means he would have known what was going to happen. Nah!! James So, are Joannide's fingerprints on this? IOWs CIA? And did this go out to other outlets that picked it up? Other papers? Was it published concurrently with the finding of the backyard pix that LIFE used in its article? I'm presuming the backyard photos were found shortly after LHO arrest. thoughts?
  13. James, when was this published and where on timeline does this appear with other similar articles on LHO published around the country? Was it the first published piece (not just DRE) telling about the Oswald Russia episode and his lefty leanings? Where does it fit with, say the discovery and subsequent publishing of the backyard pix? The LIFE expose on LHO? Thanks as always.
  14. Excellent stuff, John. I wondered what you were talking about (Suite 8F) this is very important historical info you gathered, into what groups would have the influence and control to manage a coups or protect the fact a coups occured A gander into other presidential assassinations in US history will illustrate the same type of operation as Dallas ex- a little-known loser, guy takes rap but a look at the background of little guy unveils a lineage, a trail and guys controlling him from the top of the "food chain." (insert the Latin "who gains?") IMHO, after the bullets flew the only thing left was the cover up, which there certainly was and to achieve this you had to have extremely powerful men to undertake this and you did: Warren, Russell, LBJ, Ford, Dulles, Hoover etal. I have been combing books about these powerful groups to try to nail down who was the Military Industrial Complex? What was their common bond, the fraternal order they followed? Good thread, fellows
  15. just walking out on a limb here. LHO in MHO was red, white and blue until the end. The defection was a US operation.
  16. This quote says a lot to me, Dawn. Entitlement fits very comfortably with the "need to know." There's a great deal of self-importance in this line of work, I believe. The level of secrecy required is not for everybody. I think Hunt knows this world inside and out and will never disclose details about his involvement in covert operations. Never directly, perhaps in pulp fiction, but watered down to protect the truth. This is the life he chose, after all and he knows how dangerous it is firsthand. I spoke to Hunt on phone years ago about my father and Cuban operations. He shared nothing and insisted I was making a movie (I'm not) and digging where it was none of my business. I left the conversation on good terms with nothing but an interesting contact. Don't wait for a deathbed confession from this source. His children though, have a wonderful story. I hope one of them will write about it one day. I'm most interested in the families of covert operatives and how they view this "dictatorship"? they live under. James, Montgomery County is in Maryland, not DC. Hunt lived in Miami when I spoke to him.
  17. I got a book for Christmas called Secret Societies of America's Elite from the Knights Templar to Skull and Bones by Steven Sora The author is new to me and the book is a short and interesting read. Sora minces no words about how a power control group works its way through society, over time, bending law to their own will. Kennedy is not the only President who tangled with the world powers and their agenda. A look at other presidential murders, Harrison and Lincoln, even the deaths of Martin and Bobby fit right in with Sora's thesis. You'll need an open mind to absorb all the info but the history of the formation of America is enlightening and believable. This is a good companion to the Marrs book on secret societies and those Masonic who take matters into their own hands, unbeknownst to the populace. Secrecy is the rule and this book explains to me why Clare Luce became a Catholic and Dame of Malta as she served under Eisenhower. Why Hoover was the xxxx he was. While you’re at it, ck out The Wise Men Six Friends and the World they Made by Issacson and Thomas.
  18. Hey fellows found this on web yesterday. SOA grad list-see anyone you know? http://www.derechos.net/soaw/grads/ni-mp.htmlist
  19. Shanet United Fruit is a big puzzle piece methinks. Tosh mentioned a 1958 article in LIFE that was a supposed kidnapping by Raul Castro. It is the oddest article and I encourage you to ck it out, especially since Tosh is posting here and can offer some background. It shows the United Fruit and other "engineers" in Cuba being released to the US officials Weicha etal. It's amusing in it's lack of any hostility to the rebel forces. Not a shot fired, all handshakes and smiles. In one frame they all wave goodbye to the "captives." This is at a time the US is gunrunning to the rebel forces. It tells a big story but not the one LIFE intended.
  20. little green men as foci not to be insulting and I'm totally cool with research of ETs, will o' the wisps, hauntings and the like-- but I'm more interested in how some very insightful investigators of gov't secrecy embrace this research--seems so potentially damaging to their message--IOWs, has the scent of bait this is great thesis for you grad students out there-btw I was looking up some research and saw Danny Sheehan/Christic Institute/Iran Contra is now working from this angle. Jim Marrs can you explain this to me? Sorry for the digression
  21. Good points. The Cold War was IMHO also a convenient dumping ground for the OSS vets and their friends who took to the streets domestically as well, with much of their WWII predispositions. People get recycled into other operations as we have been discussing here.
  22. Tim, any relation to the Buchanans in Miami? There were two brothers very much involved in media and Castro operations.
  23. I like David Corn's work Blond Ghost, I like reading his stuff on web and seeing him on CNN. He's got some great work behind him. What I can't stand is he plays it "safe". Spits and runs. Someone tell me what he means in referring to Webb's work: "He was on to something but botched part of how he handled it" and "Webb's work - as flawed as it was" and "I maintained he had overstated the case and had not proven his more cinematic allegations." What are the details of Corn's gripe with Webb's research? Another thing about Corn and fellows like him: after 911 he posted a blog about how stupid he thought the conspiracy theories were that he was getting, post WTC. Now time has shown that many NYers and the families of victims believe there is more being concealed than revealed about this horrible day. I just hate to hear the words "Why should I apologize?" to Corn I say: "Why not?"
