My wife and I returned home from Galveston and our Yucatan coastal cruise last night.  We had a good time, despite some stormy weather on the way back to Galveston.

One of the strangest things about this cruise was that my only access to the "news" all week was briefly watching MSNBC and Fox News on the cable television in our cabin, before dinner.

I was truly shocked to see how limited-- and distorted-- the coverage of the "news" is on these two cable channels, because I haven't watched televised "news" for years.

Both cable programs consisted mainly of lengthy opinion segments/interviews that were entirely focused on a single daily topic.  There was very little information, and a great deal of opinion.

Fox focused mainly on border hysteria, with video footage and lengthy diatribes about the U.S. being invaded and destroyed by illegal immigrants-- and the importance of impeaching Mayorkas and voting Biden out of office.  I was aghast.  The overarching theme was, "Vote for Trump."

MSNBC was more reality-based, but was similarly focused on lengthy interviews about a single subject-- e.g., Trump's $83.3 million defamation ruling, and, later in the week, Biden's targeted strikes in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen.  The overarching theme was, "Vote for Biden."

Last week, Donald Trump said that is more popular than Taylor Swift.

Now,, he is saying that he looks like Elvis Presley.

Trump's desperation is bubbling to the surface now.

Well Elvis was grossly overweight in his later years and Trump is today judging by his golf photos.

The best morning show on MSNBC is Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough weekdays who covers a number of topics from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. CT.

The best afternoon show on MSNBC is hosted by Nicole Wallace from 3 to 5 pm CT weekdays. She has a variety of guests, all of whom are credible and covers a number of topics,

I always watch these shows.

Doug,

In the absence of newspapers, I was hoping to catch up on the national and world headline news stories of the day-- like watching Dan Rather or Peter Jennings back in the day.  So, I was disappointed to see entire "news" shows focused on commentaries about a single story.

That said, I noticed a huge qualitative difference between the commentaries on MSNBC and Fox.

I'm in 100% agreement with Doug here; these are the two shows on MSNBC I try to catch as well.

Stephanie Ruhle is good as well on the 11th Hour. She used to work on Wall Street and for Bloomberg and is great at discussing the details of economic issues.

Trump's Georgia case is not going to be dismissed. The guy that suggested such a thing, Phil Holloway is a Fox News shill and overall general clown.

No it's not going to dismiss the case, but it will delay it. My feeling is that you can''t stop people from feeling attraction toward one another. I hope I'm wrong  but what I heard is apparently they went on 2 vacations together , with each one paying the separate bills for each vacation. and after their Aruba vacation,Fanni  Willis made a deal with to pay him $10,000 a week for his services.

It  looks crummy. This seemed like the best case to nail Trump with hard evidence before  the election and  I just wish they could have spared us this.

Yes, MSNBC does keep hammering in their lead stories to the point that they're like CNN in that news wise you hear one hour and if no news breaks, you hear the same stories over and over again each hour!

I don't watch any show every day. I thought the hardest hitting guy on MSNBC was Meidi Asan, but he was too anti Israel and got booted off the network.

I like Stephanie Ruhle, Nicole Wallace, though I don't get too much chance to see her, and Alex Wagner.

I've never quite understood Rachael Maddow's popularity that she is by far the highest paid of the non Fox talent, and she can now make more than any of the others and work one day a week!

I was glad they dumped blowhard Chris Matthews for talking about Bernie in early 2020 as if he was some sort of evil socialist figure, but he was really talking for the MSNBC program managers who thought Biden was the only candidate who could beat Trump. I guess that will always be a matter of controversy.

I think the hardest hitting interviewer of MAGA and the Republicans is  Caitlan Collins on CNN.  Republicans and MAGA  are much more likely to appear on CNN rather than MSNBC, if they're feeling brave.

So W. Did you make it down to Roatan? It's always been too far out of the way so  I've never been there but I've heard it's excellent for scuba and snorkeling!

Florida Rep. Pushes Bill To Legalize Shooting Bears 'That Are On Crack'

No, this is not a "Cocaine Bear" sequel.

By Ryan Grenoble Feb 5, 2024

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/florida-bill-shoot-bears-on-crack_n_65c10ccae4b0dbc806ad885f

“A Florida lawmaker wants the state to enact a “stand your ground”-style law against a scourge of what he describes as bears “that are on crack” kicking people’s doors down in the middle of the night.

“Bears are cute and cuddly and an amazing creature ― those aren’t the bears we’re talking about in this bill. We’re talking about the ones that are on crack, and they break your door down and they’re standing in your living room growling and tearing your house apart.”

“So when you run into one of these crack bears, you should be able to shoot it. Period,” Shoaf said, adding that the bears have become “a major problem in the panhandle.””

You do realize that cocaine bears kicking in your front door are the most serious threat facing America today, don't you?

Your tax dollars hard at work paying this guy's salary.

KIrk,

Mahogany Bay in Roatan was one of our ports-of-call.  We did a snorkel tour to French Key, nearby, and it was fairly pristine.  The only downer was that the weather was overcast that day.

We didn't get to explore much of the island, which is mostly a rain forest.  The buildings around Mahogany Bay had a definite British feel, somewhat like the Bahamas, and English is the main language on the island-- unlike the Honduras mainland, where Spanish predominates.

There is also an indigenous black Roatan population of Garifuna people-- deported to Roatan from some French colonies by the British in the late 18th century-- who speak a distinct language that is a combination of English and French.  I had an opportunity to listen to some Garifuna guys talking at one of our tour stops, and I had trouble understanding what they were saying.

Donald Trump loses appeal of his 'presidential immunity' from criminal prosecution for J6

by Sarah K. Burris February 6, 2024

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-loses-presidential-immunity-appeal/?utm_source=superhead

“We cannot accept former President Trump’s claim that a President has unbounded authority to commit crimes…Nor can we sanction his apparent contention that the Executive has carte blanche to violate the rights of individual citizens to vote and to have their votes count," the ruling says in the 3-0 decision.”

Trump vows to appeal to the Supreme Court, but people are saying that the ruling is so strong that the Supreme Court won't even bother to take it up.

FEDERAL JUDGES JUST RULED AGAINST ME!

Moments ago, federal judges just ruled that I HAVE NO PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY!

Joe Biden has weaponized the entire federal government against US.

THEY WON’T STOP UNTIL THE MAGA MOVEMENT IS ERASED!

THEY WON’T STOP UNTIL THEY HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL!

THEY WON’T STOP UNTIL WE BEND AT THEIR WILL, BUT I KNOW YOU WON’T LET THAT HAPPEN!

Before the day is over, I’m calling on EVERY SINGLE ONE of my supporters to chip in and say:

END THE WITCH HUNT AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP!

They’ll never stop targeting us, but I know with your support at this very moment, WE WILL WIN!

Please join me now.

Well, you know. To paraphrase Kayleigh McEnany,  May as well sell a few dresses while you're at it.
