W. I remember that silly  attempted lecture of yours a while back endeavoring to say you could offer positive proof that non religious genocides of the last century were somehow less humane than the  religious based genocides of the previous 2000 years. I would never be so presumptuous  to make such an argument.  Genocides are genocides. Not only were there much fewer people in millennia past. Socialism was was the fastest growing religion in the 20th century.  It was an evolutionary social movement beyond religion that nonetheless was embraced with a religious fervor, just as the previous fanaticism that caused religious genocides of the past. It's not a competition for me as it is for you. I'm only concerned with results, and both sides are the same. That is, they are  genocidal.

Back to your inflammatory comments about your alleged  "custom" of Jews spitting on Christian  clerics in Israel. You missed my point entirely.
W. the more you get onto your comparative religions raps, which you love to do,  the more you reinforce to me these religious assholes are going to be fighting each other into God's eternity. And you'll be there, rooting one side on.
Nobody will ever accuse you of being uplifting. Since our views are similar about Israel carrying out  genocide in Gaza. Can't you argue against Israel's policies without condemning the people as being the mindless product of  their religion that you so vehemently scorn? You really end up just contaminating the real issues with your religious fervor.

Maybe you could take a deep breathe and think about that.

Kirk,

Educating you about the true history of Christendom would be difficult task, indeed, especially since you have a nasty habit of misconstruing people's arguments, then mislabeling them as "silly."  Can you even name the three major branches of world Christianity?

I'm not an apologist for the genocidal sins of the post-Schism Roman Catholic Papacy and derivative Western European Protestantism.  Sir Steven Runciman hit that nail on the head in his definitive history of the Roman Catholic Crusades, when he pointed out that the Roman Popes completely perverted the traditional theology of the original (Orthodox) Church, by declaring that Roman Catholic Crusaders could get into heaven by murdering Muslims!

A History of the Crusades: The First Crusade; The Kingdom of Jerusalem; The Kingdom of Acre: Runciman, Steven: Amazon.com: Books

In contrast, during the 1,000 history of the Orthodox Christian Byzantine Empire-- the "greatest" civilization in history, in the opinion of British historian Arnold Toynbee-- soldiers who killed a Muslim in battle had to do a year of penance (epitimia) before they could set foot in an Orthodox Church!  This was always the true theoria and praxis of Christ and His Apostles.  Contrast this with the Latin American genocide of Roman Catholic Conquistadors and the Native American genocide of Protest "Manifest Destiny" in North America.

In contrast, again, the Russian Orthodox incorporated Native American Aleutians and Tlinglit people into their empire and (Orthodox) Church as equals.  Native American Alaskans ascended to the ranks of bishops and admirals in the Russian Empire, and they are overwhelmingly Orthodox (and pious) to this day.  I have attended their liturgies.

St. Innocent: Apostle to America: Paul D. Garrett: 9780913836606: Amazon.com: Books

As for the dark, largely untold, history of atheistic 20th century genocides, you have much to learn.

Much of this happened in closed totalitarian societies, behind a veil of secrecy.

Have you read Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago, or Russian Orthodox literature (e.g., by I.M. Andreyev) about the Soviet persecution of the Church after 1917?  About the systematic NKVD murders of Patriarch Tikhon and thousands of priests and hierarchs of the Orthodox Church in the Soviet Union?  About Solovki and the Soviet concentration camps for Orthodox priests and bishops?

The Gulag Archipelago - An Experiment In Literary Investigation - Nobel Prize Winning Complete Three Volume Trade Paperback Set by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn with a forward by Anne Applebaum: Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: Amazon.com: Books

Russia's Catacomb Saints : Lives of the New Martyrs: I M Andreev, Ivan Andreyev, Hieromonk Seraphim Rose: Amazon.com: Books

Have you studied the occult, anti-Christian, neo-pagan history of the founders of the Nazi Party?

      Hitler's admiration of Ibsen?

The Occult Roots of Nazism: Secret Aryan Cults and Their Influence on Nazi Ideology: Goodrick-Clarke, Nicholas: 9780814730607: Amazon.com: Books

The 2 most corrupt judges in Supreme Court history, Alito and Thomas, both a disgrace to our nation, are said to be delaying Trump's criminal trial in the hope that they can retire- and they need a Republican president to be in office to do that so they don't ruin the current con that is our "Supreme" Court.

Sandy:65% of Israelis say they are either "not religious" or are "convinced atheists", while only 30% say they are "religious". That may explain it. Of course, even religious Israelis could be not living their religion.

Ok, Sandy, I'm not the least bent out of shape. I see where your coming from,. You're much easier to dialog with.

I see you're generally addressing this above.  Still I'm unsure. I think I at first, instead of assuming what you were you driving at. I should have just let you talk.  But still I'm unsure.

But to what you wrote above. I asked you this question.

Kirk: That may explain it." ? Explain what?

That is you're saying the Israelis are ---------------? ( maybe summarize your findings)so they are doing-------------?.

****

Sandy:Who says I'm not for a ceasefire?

Ok, that's news to me. I think the first step, though not necessarily the only possible step, but it is the one it seems that people are now coalescing toward is a ceasefire. Of course, there's almost nothing to save anymore. Even though, they've fled their homes ,they're still being bombed in their camps and 100 died today, but last I heard there are 2 sides to the story, we'll see. In our discussions over the last few months I've continually floated that by you, and you haven't responded but we're in agreement. Personally I would have long ago also cut off  our usual aid, and definitely not have sold them arms to perpetuate this genocide, but that's me.

Here, I fill in your blanks with bold text:

The Israelis are not as piously religious as I had thought, so they are grievously violating the Jewish principle of "an eye for an eye" (exacting punishment that is commensurate with the crime) by killing so many Gazans. (Not to mention violating their religious belief in "loving your neighbor," when it comes to the collateral killing and maiming of Gazans, and causing them to suffer.)

Sandy,

If you and Kirk are interested in the subject, you should study the Talmud-- the collected wisdom and scriptural exegesis of the Jewish sages.  It is important, and authoritative, for Orthodox Judaism, including many devout, Likud Party aligned Israelis.

That said, most Jewish people in the U.S. are Reform or Conservative-- a generation or two removed from Orthodoxy.  And most are modern secularists.

But the Israeli demolition experts who are reciting Hebrew prayers while blowing up mosques in Gaza are, almost certainly, Orthodox.  For them, and for Netanyahu, destroying the Goyim in Israel appears to be a Talmudic, religious mission.

this is a pretty brutal assessment

"In the popular imagination of many Americans, particularly those on the left side of the political spectrum, the typical MAGA supporter is a rural resident who hates Black and Brown people, loathes liberals, loves gods and guns, believes in myriad conspiracy theories, has little faith in democracy, and is willing to use violence to achieve their goals, as thousands did on Jan. 6.

According to a new book, White Rural Rage: The Threat to American Democracy, these aren’t hurtful, elitist stereotypes by Acela Corridor denizens and bubble-dwelling liberals…they’re facts."
