I think I mentioned recently that I grew up about a mile from the roach-infested apartment building in Aurora Colorado, where a few Venezuelan refugee residents were recently accused of belonging to a gang. That neighborhood (12th & Beeler St., for Bill Fite) has been chronically impoverished-- with local pawnshops, payday loan sharks, topless bars, low-rent druggie motels, and prostitutes (on East Colfax Avenue.) Trump is claiming that he will save Colorado from an illegal immigrant crime wave. But crime is down here in recent years. Willamette University historian Seth Cotlar posted to his Bluesky account. "The Alien & Sedition Acts of 1798 also authorized the gov't to lock up journalists, so that's on brand too."The law would allow Trump to target journalists. According to the National Archives, the law Trump invoked would make it a crime to "write, print, utter or publish" anything "false, scandalous and malicious writing or writings against the government of the United States."
