Honestly If you're making a case that Biden really knows what's going on, Sandy has some good points. Let me list some of things Biden is up against. Even though Netanyahu isn't popular and won't be voted out until this situation at least stabilizes. You can argue Biden is dealing with what is. That is a right wing government in Israel. You'd hope that any wise administration knew we were eventually going to engineer a 180 degree turn from Biden's unconditional support of Israel, as Israel decimates Gaza inciting greater worldwide protest. Biden has to look like he's first honoring the U.S. alliance with Israel, but he's monitoring events on the ground and coming to a conclusion based on facts, and revising his judgment. The only problem is that takes time and in the meantime people are suffering and dying. Obama might be the best President to have. It would be interesting to see his rhetoric and how much further we'd be in our opposition to Israel's aggression right now. But it's complicated in the U.S. and Obama would be getting a lot of resistance from Congress! Because even right now, as far as pressuring for a cease fire, we look bad in the world because even Bernie Sanders is not asking for that! But I assume he eventually will. But there a lot of hawks in Congress who are super pro Israel! I don't know how we got started giving Israel 4 billion a year for Defense, particularly when their standard of living is higher than ours. But the truth is even if the U.S. threatened that yearly aid, Israel would still be able to prosecute their war. And the truth is, we are a hawkish country. Though I don't think that reflects the popular will. Is there an opportunity now to shift public opinion through organized protest as we eventually did with the Vietnam War, but we missed before GW Bush's War in Iraq?

Ben, Dulles is probably the closest thing to a "focus of evil" so to speak figure that I've ever seen in a least 15 years following this forum. And I think Talbot's "Devil's Chessboard" is the reason for that. I hold the theory in some high esteem as the most likely of a plurality of theories. But I think you're coming in not wedded to any one theory is the best place to be Ben. Particularly where at least IMO elements of the forum are sort of mired in at least what IMO turns out to be obstructionist fiercely held hero and conspiracy super hero and super villain politics. As someone whose a bit more familiar with Talbot, that I know what his responses will be to almost everything. I'm looking for anything new and Greenwald brought up the Brazilian coup. But I don't find the response to this interview very penetrating, because it's mostly the same Talbot stuff most people here are familiar with, hashed over again but it's chief value at this point, for most adherents is for repeated reinforcement and validation for their theories.. To get back to the interview. I know a bit about interviewing people. I think Greenwald is very intentional in his method here. Greenwald is sort of unaligned like you Ben, but a relative newcomer and complete novice about the details of the JFKA. That's a pretty good place for Greenwald to be in that he gets street cred with Talbot for being anti "deep state", so he can ask him questions reflecting some of his skepticism, and be accepted. The first question of some curiosity for Greenwald was mentioning the coup in Brazil and then button hooking it at the end into solidarity with Talbot about the msm collusion*. He wanted to see if Talbot, who holds JFK as probably the greatest American of our lifetime, (and it shows!) would acknowledge JFK was part of that coup, but leaves him an out to commiserate about the U.S. media coverage. Talbot doesn't address the JFK LBJ coup, so you wonder if he even knows about it! But takes up the media collusion. Then later, Greenwald mentions another revered member of the left, Noam Chomsky, and cites his denial that JFK wanted out of Vietnam and gets Talbot's viewpoint on that. * I'm giving Greenwald the benefit of the doubt about the evil MSM collusion prior to the JFKA, but it could be as willful back then as he assumes. I think more likely intelligence just cultivated "confidential sources" to the small number of media sources and outright BS'ed them, and they just accepted that they got the "inside scoop." because they didn't know any better and just blindly believed them! And that was the beginning of "Operation Mocking Bird."

And as I said, being familiar with Talbot, 90% of his answers I anticipated, as I assume you maybe did too. But this was to me by far the most interesting event raised in the interview. Re: the coup in March 1964, 3 years after Goulart became president. Here's what it says in just a preliminary look into Wikipedia. So we know at the time of JFK's death, Goulart, (who according to Greenwald, wanted some rent control and to address more equitable land reform from the wealthy land barons) was perceived for some period of time by JFK and RFK as a "problem" that they tried to address without any results. And then 4 months later the U.S. started a coup! Wow!, that's about as damning a scenario cast on JFK foreign policy as you'll ever get from Jim! But I agree, we don't know if JFK would have started the coup. Yeah, it sounds like another bad appointment! heh heh Paul: Now’s your chance to prove your point! Ben, you do realize that a more complete version of this interview entitled "David Talbot interviewed by Glenn Greenwald" was posted here last week by JJ Lane and you actually contributed to the post thanking him for posting? If you remember this, why didn't you just contribute to his thread, instead of opening a new one? Since most of the us know Talbot pretty well. I've read Devil's Chessboard, some of "Brothers" a lot of articles and interviews and I could anticipate many of Talbot's answers in this interview. I would say Talbot and Newman have become the JFKA community sort of middle of the road here and Talbot's general views and specific indictment of Dulles is probably embraced by the most people here. So, unless you're not familiar with Talbot, who is a good read. There was little new here except I might try to add something fresh here other than the usual din of praise, and mention the things I thought were most interesting. Greenwald who lives in Brazil alleges a 1964 coup in Brazil that was first initiated by both JFK and LBJ over a Prime Minister who the U.S. thought to be Socialist for only wanting simple things such as rent control and some land reform. It certainly goes counter to Talbot's as well as a number of authors here preaching of JFK's non interventionism. I didn't know anything about this. But when Greenwald confronts Talbot about it, he is silent. Of course not addressing it is sort of more of the same politics. Let's all get along and not further investigate it, and agree to spare JFK's non interventionist image, nor investigate the accuracy of Greenwald's claims. If I didn't bring this matter up. I would expect it to be thrown in the trash bin as it has been for the last week and I suspect that will continue.. Of course Ben, you've continually roasted Biden for not releasing the JFKA files while ignoring that Trump first resisted opening the JFKA files. But there was another such free speech issue that you've taken up the mantle of, and that is the the freeing of Julian Assange. But as Greenwald says here, Trump could have pardoned Assange. A number of people pleaded with him to, but Trump refused! Greenwald knee jerk automatically assumes that it was due to the some pressuring by the NSS "deep state" and maybe you do as well. But the reason could be as simple as Trump might just look at Assange as a" dirty hippy", and if he didn't have any people around him who were that concerned, what reason would Trump have to pardon Assange? Like the Magas, you're projecting on Trump that he holds your ideals. Talbot and Greenwald do delve into their politics, which is to be expected if you've read either of them. Regarding the War in Israel, Talbot is not pro Israel, and takes up his cause by saying the opposition to Israeli decimation of the Gaza strip was being suppressed in the U.S. media. He also cites that there is a concerted "clampdown on dissent among intellectuals' political leaders and artists'". "Clampdown?" I don't know what he' talking about! It looks to me like everybody is stirring up sh-t on both sides, and things are occasionally getting ugly. While I agree with him the MSM has staunchly backed Biden's reasons for backing Israel,which is the immediate reaction to the Hamas terrorist attack, there's becoming just as much coverage now for humanitarian concerns about the plight of the innocent victims in the Gaza strip, and I see it on both CNN and Fox. It represents a case to me where the left just knee jerk talks about the media oppression, whether it's happening in reality or not. You can decry veering into "politics" again, but that's exactly what Greenwald and Talbot do. And there's no reason that relevant topics such as U.S. intervention in Brazil shouldn't be explored any more than either Talbot or Greenwald shouldn't be scrutinized.

I was in essence saying that I've heard no LNer's here on the forum say they oppose the release of the files back in 2017 or now. Jim: Does anyone think that RFK would not at least try and do that? As a candidate, there was a way he could have mitigated it, but he chose to get stubborn and waste precious minutes acting as if he was a teenager fiercely defending his Senior Class Science Project. Then later, so ineptly, he allows himself to get chided and played by the right.

Like I predicted, quintuple revenge payback was accomplished by Israel in a week. I agree with Doug, I think Biden's domestic priorities are maybe the best of any President of our time, with possible exception of Jimmy Carter, and my hopes for RFK. But everyday for the last 3 weeks he hasn't called for a ceasefire just damages him in the eyes of the world, not to mention his election chances. I enjoyed that interview with Ilan Pappe, Doug! The only thing that could save him would be if he got support from our allies, and in the next 9 months the world gets some confidence that we are on the road to a 2 state solution. If Biden accomplished that, he will have achieved something no President in the post war era world could and be remembered as a great President. These are his stated intentions, and no doubt the intentions of a lot of our allies. We don't know what he's telling Netanyahu in private. But first there has to be an acknowledged turnaround, from this no ceasefire policy. And then an acknowledgment that getting rid of the spirit of Hamas is impossible no matter how much of Hamas you've killed, and we have to take a new direction. Biden has been shrewder than a lot of people have given him credit for. The question is: is he shrewd enough to realize that if he doesn't shoot for the fences now, his chances for reelection will be zero? I'm seeing a lot of coverage from CNN and Fox about the plight of the people in Gaza as well as Israel. It's really a "whole world is watching" moment. Biden has to be aware that sticking with Israel, right or wrong is political suicide!

I love all 3 American sports.! Baseball is what I was best in. I was 5-1 as a pitcher in Little League, and 13-0 as a fast pitch softball pitcher in junior high inter school competition. But when i got to high school, I decided you could get more girls in a R&R band and the British invasion was going on! I don't think there's any question that Football is America's sport. Both Football and Basketball have monetized their sports very well in our lifetimes with Basketball being a truly International sport now. Baseball is too slow moving for the restless new young generations with their devices. I'm glad they've speeded up the game. But now they face this question, why play 162 games a year if who ends up winning is the hottest team at the end of the season with a mediocre season record? What exacerbates this now is insisting on having so may teams entered into the playoffs, that the best performing teams during the season get cold because they are forced to wait for these wild cards teams to eliminate one another.

But cumulatively, it's been 1000 times, and everybody already knows that!. And who would disagree with opening the files anyway? Even LNer's want the files open! And you could more appropriately push your alternative political beliefs there, but it's too low profile for you.

That's exactly right. People should be treated the same. I remember the buzz here around the time RK was about to declare. There was a lot of RK fawning and hero worship and very little of substance, but in my mind it could be forgiven at the time, because he was a Kennedy and offered a renewed promise opening the files.. Still it was apparent to me Jim was trying to make the forum a calendar of RK political events, opening threads telling us about his next engagements and big speeches coming up. This is twice just in this thread, Ben ! And how many more times are we going to hear you filibustering these threads saying that very same thing with no news about JFK records? When news breaks on that front, I can assure we will all hear about it here. Yet when both Jim and Ben overstep and the thread eventually gets put into "political discussions". They completely lose interest because the political discussion thread is a ghastly combination of being too political knowledge intensive and too low attention profile for Jim and Ben.

Mike Johnson was dropped on everybody so fast, the media had no time to vet him. He' an absolute extremist loon! Notice the conciliation the GOP wants is to down fund the IRS! That should tell everybody where the GOP is at. This pretty much tells it. There's a clip of Matt Gaetz crowing that the GOP has now taken over by the MAGA wing! Will the GOP shut down the government? Should we be really upset or will this eventually be just another incident of the Maga Republicans hanging themselves in 24'?

Yeah, directing people including women and children to camps in South Gaza and then bombing them! I saw this interview with a guy in the Knesset who speaks great English and he says the people of Israel felt a great sense of relief and gratitude at Biden's declaration that the U.S. stands by Israel. People freak out about that but it's really only Biden reaffirming the U.S. position that Israel is an ally. That's to be expected. But what really matters is what is Biden doing behind the scenes? When asked if Israel is being pressured by BIden for a humanitarian evacuation he said not "pressured" but "advised". To me it better be pressured, but of course I would expect them to overemphasize solidarity and say "advised" I'm relieved that a humanitarian evacuation is starting to happen. But this bombing of the designated refugee areas is a human tragedy that also makes us look like dooky. Biden should have called Israel to cease fire a couple of weeks ago. Though we have incomplete knowledge, Biden looks pretty weak. It's the best for the stability of the world as well as the region if the only country that has the power to shape events in the Middle East is not seen to be so partisan. Otherwise the whole region could go up in flames.

House votes to back Israel and condemn Hamas 412-10!. Only one Republican voted against it and that was Thomas Massie.
