  1. Sandelio Herminio DIAZ Garcia. There is a 201 file on the individual. The file was opened in September 1957 because of his involvement with Honduran and Costa Rican revolutionary activities. He was debriefed by a CIA case officer in September 1963. (Rip Robertson?) as a Cuban refugee. At that time he claimed to be in contact with anti-Castro groups in Cuba and stated that he wanted to assassinate Castro. He indicated his intention to return to Cuba immediately. We dropped contact with him at that time and never did have an operational relationship with him. In January 1966 he was reported involved with a Cuban emigre group in a plan to infiltrate Cuba for the purpose to assassinate Castro. On 30 May 1966 he was identified by Radio Havana as a member of a commando group killed while trying to land on the island. However, in August 1973 and individual with the same name and year of birth was reportedly involved in narcotics trafficking in Costa Rica. A Cuban exile source stated that he believed subject to be identical with the narcotics trafficker in Costa Rica. There is no further information to substantiate this.
  2. I'd love to read them. Sure beats the old hard copies I had to use. :-)
  3. There are some nice areas to research here. Why was John Lechner's name in Richard Nagell's address book? Who was backing Burt Mold? "There was an overlap in membership between the CDL and the ACFC. Steven Foote, Western Regional Director of the CDL, was a board member of the ACFC. Curiously enough, so was Dr. John Lechner. Lechner, Executive Director of the Americanism Educational League, a political arm of the California American Legion, is listed in Richard Case Nagell's notebook.[40] Lechner and Burt Mold met with Cuban exiles Cesar Blanco and Paulino Sierra in Chicago during the month of February 1963 to discuss writing a document on uniting the different Cuban exile factions. Sierra did more than write a document. Mold and Lechner were the founders of a subcommittee of the Americanism Educational League called Americans for Cuban Freedom formed in 1961 after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.[41] Noted members were the previously mentioned Steve Foote, Guy Gabaldon, associate of Hall and Howard, Dr. Tirse Del Junco and W. Cleon Skousen."

  6. Paul, In the doc release, the title of this doc is "CABLE RE HELMS APPEARANCE BEFORE WARREN COMM" The text in the body refers to a "Fletcher M. Knight" I'm assuming this is a pseudonym. Just one of those head scratchers. Helms is Knight, Philips is Bishop? Philips is copied on this doc along with Scott, White and Anne G(oodpasture).
  7. Just looking through the new releases and saw this - https://www.archives.gov/files/research/jfk/releases/104-10013-10296.pdf Title is CABLE RE HELMS APPEARANCE BEFORE WARREN COMM. Text says Fletcher M. Knight...
  8. Thanks Paul, I've read Simpich's excellent book. Also, Witten was not a low-level flunky.

  15. I'm just looking at some of the newly released AMSPELL/DRE, AMHINT docs and thought this one may be of interest. 104-171-10037. It's an April 62 status report by the DRE case officer Harold R. Noemayr. Could Noemayr be a pseudonym for Joannides? Or was this his predecessor?
  16. 104-10222-10007 in formerly batch 2 of 4 might be of interest. It's a fitness report of Thomas Keenan, Operations Officer, Mexico City from 10/63 to 9/30/64. His duties include responsibilities of station technical support including technical photo operations with a staff of 20. He was also an alternate case officer for 2 other operations including one in the LAURICLE field.
  17. Steve, You beat me to it. I was going to suggest Castorr. :-) Castorr socialized with Gen Walker, H.L. Hunt, and Robert Morris. Morris was friends with Lester Logue. Castorr was later a member of the Maryland Reserve.
  18. Not to derail this subject but here's the unredacted version - https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=44539&search=lester_logue#relPageId=2&tab=page It was Logue.
  19. Here's 2 references on Logue. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=54047&relPageId=6&search=lester_logue https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=48774&relPageId=47&search=lester_logue
