If one reads the words "window seat" as a reference to the sniper's nest perch, the song can be interpreted as a cry for help from someone feeling disconnected from society. As "Wanting a ticket out of town" would seem to be a second reference to Oswald, we can conclude from this that Badu is a lone nutter. That's how the song was written, anyhow. The video and final comments show she wanted the song to have another level to it. Perhaps, then, Oswald was merely used as a literary device--as someone supposedly despicable and pathetic--who may very well have just been in need of a hug. David Andrews
I notice that her head goes back and to the left. Can we tell from the shadows what time it was filmed? I think it's a thrilling new way to teach young people the topography and landmarks of Dealey Plaza! John Dolva
I tend to agree David. Pat, I don't think you're reading it right. It seems to me a statement of her experience as a mother in a relationship and in exposing herself is a form of the what was called a happening in the 60's. Theatre is sometimes the last expression mediom for discontent. In a way it's remeniscent of Lennons and Yokos bed ins. In sacks. Events. Basically, I think people should just leave her be and see her for what she is but not make her life any difficult.

Dallas police said that all they need is for one witness to file a complaint against those responsible for killing President Kennedy in front of his wife and others, indluding children who might have been tramatized, but no one has complained. CNN) -- Erykah Badu's naked stroll through downtown Dallas, Texas, for a music video has earned her a disorderly conduct citation. The singer shed her clothes as she walked through Dealey Plaza until she was nude and then fell near where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Badu said the video was "shot guerrilla style," without a crew and in one take March 17. A Dallas Police spokeswoman said earlier in the week that they wanted to press charges against Badu because children were present, but no one had called police or filed a complaint that day. Police now have their witness. "One witness did come forward yesterday, thus leading to the charges filed today," a statement from Dallas Police said Friday. A citation of misdemeanor disorderly conduct has been mailed to Badu, who is a Dallas resident, police said. In a video, Erykah Badu strips in Dealey Plaza, the location of President Kennedy's 1963 assassination. "After much discussion, it has been determined that this charge best fits her conduct when she disrobed in a public place without disregard [sic] to other individuals and children who were in close proximity," the police statement said. If convicted, Badu could be fined $500, police said. "It will be up to her as to how she wants to proceed further with this case," police said. "She can contest it in a court of law or simply pay the fine." Badu and her representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. She did post a series of short messages on the social networking site Twitter last weekend, soon after the "Window Seat" video was released on her web site. She tweeted that "there were children there. I prayed that they wouldn't be tramatized." Edited April 3, 2010 by William Kelly
David Andrews
It's strange - some of the people in that video look like hired extras, in that they don't seem to be responding to the strip, unless it's the cameraman following her that seems to make it "legit" and not some desecration or lunacy. Lending some credit to a staged-shoot theory is the apparent early hour, when traffic and pedestrians would be at a minimum. Movie scenes on city streets frequently appear in the same quality of daylight, because crews are forced to shoot then so as to cause minimum obstruction. Maybe Jack White could analyze the light and shadow, and help us Free Erykah. Edited April 3, 2010 by David Andrews
Michael Hogan
It's a sign of the times, but still disheartening that this story has had such traction, yet it is impossible to find a news story about Judge Leon's recent ruling on Jefferson Morley's lawsuit. "I would never disrespect JFK," she (Badu) wrote on Twitter. "his revolutionary thinking is my inspiration. my performance art has been grossly misinterpreted by many." http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2010/04/...deo_shoot_.html
David Andrews
It's a tempest in a teapot, and the charge is a formality. It was just another art event, somewhere beneath Philip Petit wirewalking between the Twin Towers. Edited April 4, 2010 by David Andrews
Frankie Vegas
Due to the deep emotional and violent asspects of the assassination there is much scope for artists to use this to explain different asspects of their art. From Marilyn's Coma White To Andy Warhol's Jackie http://louisey.files.wordpress.com/2009/06...blue-133909.jpg And Ron English's Mars Harvey http://www.artasty.com/image.php?main=blog...ogImages/wm.png I'm sure artists are well aware that there may be charges relating to thier work if it does not conform to the laws of the land.
