Vince Palamara Posted June 10, 2018 Share Posted June 10, 2018 (edited) click on images to enlarge First things first: it is important to remember that President Kennedy did not have hundreds of motorcades during his 1000 or so days in offer- it was a finite number (from the JFK Library): When the President visited military bases or traveled in motorcades in Washington, D.C., there was hardly any overt protection noticeable, such as motorcycles flanking the car, agents on or near the rear of the limousine, or a full bubbletop, unless during certain weather conditions, with a few notable exceptions when a display of force was demonstrated. This was because the Secret Service and the President were on very friendly, well-traveled grounds. On military bases, our troops, in conjunction with the Secret Service, provide the best-case scenario for protection. In the Capital, the Secret Service checks all the buildings along the route, and armed guards are posted along the path the President’s car will take. In addition, manholes are checked and sealed. For example, during JFK’s Inaugural Parade held on 1/20/61, “A complete survey of all buildings, water mains, sewers and underground conduits and other facilities along the parade route [was] made prior to the departure of the President from the White House to the Capitol.” It should also be noted that when JFK was a candidate for the Presidency in 1960 the Secret Service did not protect candidates. Sadly, this did not become policy until immediately after the murder of his brother Robert. For his part, V.P. Nixon already had Secret Service protection on the campaign trail in 1960. That said, Senator Kennedy’s motorcades were often surrounded by many motorcycles: JFK & LBJ together in Dallas (on Main Street) 9/11/60! I know the Criminal Intelligence Section of the Dallas Police Department's Special Service Bureau did a pre-check. I just wondered if the Dallas office of the SS did one too. I have become convinced that Oswald was not in the DPD's Intelligence files, and that the officer who told Fritz out in the hall that Oswald lived on Beckley was getting his information from somewhere else. Vince, You know, knowing that jFK was coming for a visit, it seems like the Dallas SS office would reach out and touch base with the 112th, and the FBI and the Dallas CID, but I've never read of that happening. The closest I've ever seen is the meeting Hosty had the morning of the 22nd with Coyle and I don't know who else; but they were meeting about something else. The arms thefts involving Masen and Darnell and Whitter, I think. It's strange. There's probably a whole avenue of research there, but I don't know how you would go about it. James DiEugenio Posted June 11, 2018 Share Posted June 11, 2018 What I get from this, among other things, is that the bubble top was used quite often, and there are all kinds of versions of it, partial, two thirds, full. And the partial one would not really have separated Kennedy from the crowds, which is the excuse the SS used for not putting it on that day, that was when they were in their "Blame Kennedy for his death mode." Which they are still doing, right? Its amazing looking at those pics just how much of a collapse Dallas was. In every way. As I have often said, in the JFK case, you really needed a prosecutor that was going to go head to head with these guys like Lawson, Sorrells, and Rowley. Jim, One of the most interesting things I have ever encountered is the "Bartimo Letter of April 24, 1964". This is CD 852 here: https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=11249#relPageId=2&tab=page This spells out the liason procedures of the military establishment with various civilian agencies with respect to intelligence matters - foreign and domestic. Look at paragraph 3 on page 1. "The Secret Service is not a member of the intelligence community as such." Look at paragraphs 4 and 5 on that same page. The DIA had no criteria or procedures for interfacing with the Secret Service. Look at pp 5-6. The DIA had Memorandums of Understanding with Customs, the FBI, Narcotics, etc., but as far as the Secret Service, their agreements only related to counterfeiting.
