To be honest, I am not sure whether a male teacher should mention to a group of high school students or younger he is married to a man.

Not that high school teachers are ever subject to gossip by their students.

Not that high school students are familiar with the fact that homosexuals exist and that it’s no big deal except for evangelicals who project their own compulsion to convert on others.

Should a female teacher mention her abortion?

How does that compare?

Should a Trump-supporter teacher positively refer to his political stance?

How does that compare?  Sure you’re not projecting evangelical compulsion to convert?

But I will tell you this: The Donks may lose big in the mid-terms as they keep making social issues and ID politics their main story, now mixed with rampant fear-mongering.

Factually incorrect.  The Dems are running on pro-choice and pro-voting.  It’s the Christian fascists who are wrapped up in converting people.

Whatever happened to being concerned with wages and working conditions, and the outrageous cost of housing in whole regions of the country?

You mean like the infrastructure act putting over a trillion dollars into upgrading transportation and communications?

To name one example.

You’re over-reacting to over-reaction.

Yes, to the Donks, a big issue is the sacred right of gay male school teachers to advertise their marital status.

Some people might think you’re projecting a Christian compulsion to convert.  Islam has the exact same issue.

35 minutes ago, Benjamin Cole said:

Maybe after a divorce, a gay male teacher can say, "I am single again, btw."

Again, where does this compulsion to convert you attribute to others come from?

I think there are more important issues.

Ya think?  It’s the Christian Fascists who make a *big* *dramatic* *production* of it.

Irony ain’t dead.

The 'Phants are sometimes even worse, btw.

The GOP makes it harder for a lot of non-whites to vote.

Of course, we'll never know whether the deaths in question were deaths from covid or deaths with covid, because the respective numbers were deliberately conflated and confused, apparently on foot of WHO changing the protocol for recording such deaths for the purpose of inflating the numbers.

Even if I grant you this point, those issues are still as weak as fresh dough.

Wages and working conditions should be the heart and soul of every Donk election and platform.  They would be better off and make a better contribution, if that were their only issues.

To you maybe.  Those aren’t *your* rights getting stripped.

Nonsense.  Not only did Biden and the Dems pass a half dozen major pieces of legislation they cut the budget deficit in half.  More than 10 million jobs created in less than two years.  Inflation isn’t nearly as high here as many other countries.

You are missing the point.

The Donks' messaging 24/7 is ID politics, and vote- and democracy fear-mongering.

When was the last time a Donk president said, "They say labor markets in America are tight. I say 'great.' I hope they get tighter for generations. "

Or how about, "We need to pursue every avenue to reduce taxes on wages. Better to tax imports, better to tax property, better to tax inherited wealth---the last thing we should tax in America is wages, and certainly wages below some threshold, say $75,000 a year."

I don't hear that messaging.

BTW, I would not be surprised if both parties rig, gimmick, and game voting by every method possible. They certainly sell party positions for campaign contributions.

Fear mongering?  If your house catches fire are you fear mongering when you call the Fire Dept.?

GOP candidates in Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona have declared they won’t certify any Dem victories no matter what the votes are.

There’s a Supreme Court case coming up to determine if State Legislatures can overturn the vote without any judicial review.

Who was the last President to add 10+million jobs in less than two years?

None of them until Old Joe.

Because with a 60 vote requirement in the Senate none of that would pass.  Such proposals are routinely condemned as socialist and/or inflationary.

2020 was the most free and fair election in America’s history.

But it does illustrate a point.

Ben, You don't live in the world as it is.

So when you're perpetually disappointed, which is often .

You blame it on a conspiracy.

And that's what really sucks!

Well, broadly speaking...

Elites conspire to manipulate political parties, and powerful state and private organizations...and are usually successful.

So, yes, I believe in conspiracies...

Or, like the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz, "I do believe in spooks, I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do believe in spooks!"

Of course, the Lion had just seen Dorothy spirited away by flying monkeys.

When are such beliefs justified?

Well...not sure about this.

I think the Donks got out on the wrong side of the bed by demonizing productive enterprises, and forgetting people who work for a living.

I am not here to lionize the oil industry, or any industry. But productive people and capital working to bring product to market are not the bad guys.

Whenever I see Donk messaging, it seems like it is aimed at upper-class Manhattanites....

I actually believe in higher taxes in general on fossil fuels...probably the best way to reduce consumption...

When do *you* ever see Dem messaging when it’s not filtered thru right wing narratives?

One party addresses the issue, no matter how imperfectly.
