Joe Bauer
Would we have allowed the Mafia to go back in and re-establish their huge money making criminal enterprises like casinos, prostitution, money laundering, etc. Would we have let Pepsico and other multi-national corporations re-establish their slave wage sugar plantations? Who would have been our installed political leader? Another Bautista? Would we let all the monied class that Castro threw out return and reinstate their wealth and positions? Would we have allowed some form of democracy there that bettered the living conditions of the lower income class majority of citizens? For sure, we would initially had a long term military state presence due to continued rebellious actions even if Castro was toppled. Wonder what Hemingway would have thought about it all? Lot to ponder. Edited January 13, 2023 by Joe Bauer
Michael Griffith
If JFK had been president when Castro came to power in 1959, Castro may have never felt the need to ask the Soviets for assistance in the first place. Eisenhower overreacted to Castro and did much to push Castro toward the Soviets. I think JFK would have been less reactionary and more flexible in his dealings with Castro than Ike was. But, by the time JFK became president, Castro was already in the Soviet camp, thanks to Ike's mishandling of the situation. Nixon had mates like Bebe Rebozo who had business interests in Cuba as did Nixons other pals - The Mafia
Ron Bulman
If the CIA had been able to eliminate Castro during the Kennedy administration, they would have installed a new leader of their choosing imo. Not JFK. It was their MO in other regime changes. Maybe they did in the JFKA. A former head of the senate they had worked with before who would give them what they wanted. Vietnam among other things. Joe Bauer
Seriously, what do you think we would have allowed regards the Mafia wanting to get back in to re-start their corrupt business interests? I could see them telling our top people...hey, we helped you get rid of Castro...now you owe us. Edited January 14, 2023 by Joe Bauer
Joseph McBride
I remember when Castro was our pal. I was such a baseball fanatic as a kid that I used to watch Cuban baseball on TV in Milwaukee during the winter, and one time Castro came into the booth and did color commentary on the game. I also watched Edward R. Murrow interview Castro on PERSON TO PERSON. Edited January 14, 2023 by Joseph McBride
