A mis identification is not surprising. After all, how many Carcanos did he see in his life? You should more puzzled by the fact he never said he saw the Mauser stamp which was the best argument he could ever bring ? The stamp was not mentioned by Craig before until 1971. Craig didn’t mention it during his testimony in the Clay Shaw trial.

It looks much like a Mauser much, so his mistake was honest. I talked to a deputy sheriff who saw the rifle on the 6th floor. He told me, “A Carcano is a Mauser. Isn’t it?” I don’t how I can get this through your head.

Funny that Weitzman didn’t mention the Mauser stamp neither to the WC, CBS in 1967 or to the HSCA. He had plenty of occasions to. Craig lied again.

I can't hold this against Gilbride. The audio is so awful that you hear things that are not there. NARA has transcripts for many interviews, but don't seem to have one for this interview. Maybe they thought it was no use. I'm wondering if the original audio or at least one generation earlier than the audio cassette I copied is much better. 

HSCA investigators asked Frazier if he had been brutally treated, victim of brutality. Frazier answers no, says someting else, than "very close". The video starts at the right time.

This is the full interview. Below is a summary I made. The times I put on the left is for each individual cassette. At certain points, I indicate the time on the right that matches the YouTube video. If you reply to this post, please don`t use the quote function because it's going to make a crazy long reply. Some parts are better than others. I recorded this with good equipment at NARA. The squeezing noise the tape at times, very tight tape, was incredible. I could hear it 200 feet from the cassette player. 

If I heard properly, Frazier did not mention the physical threat made to him. Listen at 29:05 and 51:30 and 1:23:24 up to 1:24:33. Do you full transcript of it? In the tape, the HSCA investigator indicates he would give Frazier a separate audio tape and a transcript of the interview. Frazier told me he does not have any of it. I think he never listened to this interview. I will use Audacity to enhance those portions.

I believe the "he" in the bolded above in this likely garbled transcription is Fritz--not Oswald--in Frazier's telling. Something about Fritz telling that Oswald had been positively identified as the assassin, maybe something about the package and the rifle, and Fritz boring in on Frazier having driven the car that morning that carried it. Oswald never spoke language of "owning" Dallas, but that might be something Fritz could say in a context of an intimidating interrogation. 

The interrogation by Fritz was the traumatizing event for Frazier. I read Frazier as speaking here of his known experience with Fritz, rather than some event of which there is no other trace of reference.

I have the full interview on tape. I’m amazed I don’t remember that. I’ll check.

This all changed when word from Lindon Johnson's people quickly got around that Oswald was to be the lone gunman. At which time the Mauser was disappeared and the Carcano became Oswald's gun.

That is not really true, because people were made to change their stories.

I mean that during the search for rifles, nobody stated that 2 rifles were found. If one did, type his name. I can’t pretend I know everything, but surprise me!

Deputy Sheriff Jack Faulkner who was with the group looking at the rifle told me “A Carcano is a Mauser. Right?” Boone and Weitzman probably meant Mauser as the general term like Frigidaire is for fridges. One of them wrote “Mauser bolt-type” in his affidavit. I think it’s more what both originally had in mind. Had Weitzman been alive in the 90s, I would have clarified all this mess.

In his 70s interview Craig says Mauser was readable on the rifle. But he doesn’t say if it is he who read or someone else told him. The interviewer didn’t probe.
