  1. In 1977, the House Select Committee on Assassination’s Chief Counsel Richard Sprague and his deputy Robert K. Tanenbaum were both compelled to resign, soon replaced by G. Robert Blakey. From their early questioning of witnesses and their later public statements, it’s clear that both Sprague and Tanenbaum believed that Amercian Intelligence organizations were involved in the assassination of JFK. Sprague’s replacement, G. Robert Blakey, seemed to indicate that he believed the Mob did it. Most researchers today, I believe, would agree with the statement that, at the very least, the fingerprints of American Intel are all over this case. So what about the Mob? There is no question that the CIA made use of the Mob in the 1960s and early 1970s. The most famous of these misadventures probably involved attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro, which were almost comically unsuccessful (enough so to make some people wonder how serious they were). Ever since Blakey’s HSCA diverted attention from American Intel to the Mob, now half a century ago, the true nature of this crime has been hidden, at least in my opinion. Recently here, a researcher began looking at Jack Ruby’s possible ties to organized crime figures, which I think has been largely a cover story to hide the fact that he was probably some sort of CIA asset. (Though, I suppose, in Jack’s line of work it’s pretty easy to rub elbows with some unsavory characters.) But I believe the whole Mob-did-it thing is just an excuse. I believe Ruby was a mechanic who helped create the events of 11/22/63 in Dallas, including the framing of “Lee Harvey Oswald,” and that he took his directions from the CIA’s David Atlee Phillips via the two men’s mutual friend (and Dallas radio station co-founder) Gordon McLendon.
  2. Thank you for your service, Chris. I've got to continue saying, though, that Jack Ruby sure seemed to have more connections to our government than the Warren Commission led us to believe.
  3. The New York Jack Rubenstein, by the way, was slender and more than six feet tall.
  4. I doubt this is the "Jack Rubenstein of Chicago" mentioned in the HUAC affidavit and who was hired by Richard Nixon in 1947. There was another politically active Jack Rubenstein from the New York area who was a member of the Young Communist League in the 1920s. There is no indication that this Rubenstein spent any time in Chicago. John Armstrong wrote about him extensively in his Jack Ruby page at my website.
  5. Sure looks like Jack Ruby to me standing next to Richard Nixon in the photo. This is made all the more likely by the evidence that Nixon hired Jack Ruby six years earlier: Republican strategist and Nixon aide Roger Stone told Jefferson Morley: "Nixon recognized Jack Ruby and knew him since 1947 as a 'Johnson man.'" See: http://jfkfacts.org/...know-jack-ruby/ In the same article, Morley also wrote: Stone also said he has “a direct quote from Nixon who acknowledged in 1989 that his aide Murray Chotiner brought Ruby to him in 1947 and told him LBJ wanted Ruby hired as an informant for the House UnAmerican Activities Committee,” otherwise known as HUAC. The U.K. Daily Mail published an article in part about Ruby's 1947 hiring by Nixon: Read it HERE.
  6. Ah, but Chris, in your picture above you appear to be wearing a military uniform and posed in front of an American flag. Doesn't surprise me at all that you have a security clearance. Jack Ruby, on the other hand, at least from what we've been told, really shouldn't have that kind of clearance, eh? Or do you think every petty hood deserves security clearance?
  7. Bill Kelly wrote the following: JACK RUBY’S SECURITY CLEARANCE A new edition of Mel Barney’s book “Four Wars” includes an Addendum entitled “Jack Ruby Had U.S. Security Clearance,” and details how Jack Ruby had a Security Clearance that permitted him to fly on a special Texas Instruments airplane. The airplane, a B-26, which was identified as a “Texas Instruments Incorporated – Flying Laboratory,” had special, newly developed equipment – a “Automatic Terrain Following Radar Laboratory.” Official records indicate that Ruby flew on the plane twice in Washington DC in 1961. Ruby, who killed JFK assassination suspect Lee Harvey Oswald while he was in the custody of the Dallas Police, is known to have had a special association with Richard Nixon and served as an FBI informant, but his special federal security clearance was not previously known. The remainder of this article can be read at: http://jfkcountercoup2.blogspot.com/2013/01/jack-rubys-security-clearance.html
  8. Why worry so much about this photograph, Chris? If you don’t think it shows Jack Ruby standing next to Bush and Nixon, fine, don’t believe it! But don’t ignore all the other evidence. There is a lot more coming to light in recent years about Ruby’s U.S. Government connections that I haven’t taken the time to research and present. Here’s one, though, that Bill Kelly has already researched and presented to us. Jack Ruby Had a Security Clearance, which is pretty strange for a “small time hood” from Chicago and Dallas. Bill Kelly wrote a short article about this that begins as follows: JACK RUBY’S SECURITY CLEARANCE A new edition of Mel Barney’s book “Four Wars” includes an Addendum entitled “Jack Ruby Had U.S. The remainder of this article can be read at: http://jfkcountercoup2.blogspot.com/2013/01/jack-rubys-security-clearance.html Ah, I see we're starting new threads about things. I'll start one about this.
  9. - Reminds me of "The Weekly World News" More insults from your side, but let's talk EVIDENCE. We can link Ruby to Nixon because, in fact, there is EVIDENCE that Nixon hired him in 1947. Do we just have a photo to prove that? Hardly. How about a House of Representatives document?: We also have the fact that Nixon aide Roger Stone said Nixon hired Ruby in 1947, as I wrote in Post #120: Republican strategist and Nixon aide Roger Stone told Jefferson Morley: "Nixon recognized Jack Ruby and knew him since 1947 as a 'Johnson man.'" See: http://jfkfacts.org/...know-jack-ruby/ In the same article, Morley also wrote: Stone also said he has “a direct quote from Nixon who acknowledged in 1989 that his aide Murray Chotiner brought Ruby to him in 1947 and told him LBJ wanted Ruby hired as an informant for the House UnAmerican Activities Committee,” otherwise known as HUAC. The U.K. Daily Mail published an article in part about Ruby's 1947 hiring by Nixon: Read it HERE. Some people apparently STILL want to blame Organized Crime for the assassination of JFK. When we point out the connections Ruby had to the U.S. government, they squeal and hurl insults our way. Welcome to the club! This whole massive cover-up is unraveling rather quickly now. We also have the fact that Ruby’s Cuban gunrunning operations in the 1950s somehow managed to escape CIA scrutiny, though no one did. As I wrote in Post 82: In 1952, when Ruby was allegedly “mentally depressed” and had “hibernated in the Cotton Bowl Hotel for three or four months” he was in reality in Florida. In Florida Ruby soon became acquainted with former Cuban President Carlos Prio, who was supplying arms and munitions to Castro. It was during this time that Ruby met gun smuggler and CIA operative Donald Edward Browder. The two men contracted with Joe Marrs (Marrs Aircraft, Miami) to transport weapons and munitions to Cuba. Ruby soon purchased an interest in two aircraft that he used to illegally transport the arms, and also acquired partial ownership in a Havana gaming house in which Carlos Prio held majority ownership. Donald Browder knew Jack Ruby well and said, “During the pre-Castro years (pre-1959), the CIA and Customs would not oppose gun shipments to Castro.” NOTE: Blaney Mack Johnson (FBI informant “T-2”) knew a lot about Ruby's and Browder's gun-running activities in the early 1950s. In 1964 Johnson provided the FBI with detailed information concerning their activities and gave the Bureau the names of three people who he said could corroborate his story: Joe Marrs of Marrs Aircraft, with whom Ruby had contracted to make illegal flights to Cuba; Leslie Lewis, former Chief of Police in Hialeah, Florida, who knew of Ruby's gunrunning and smuggling operations; and pilot Clifton T. Bowes, Jr., formerly a captain with National Airlines in Miami. When questioned by the FBI, following the assassination of JFK and Ruby's nationally televised murder of Oswald, these three individuals denied being involved with the illegal transportation of firearms and, of course, denied knowing Jack Ruby. [Above from John Armstrong's write-up on Jack Ruby at HarveyandLee.net.] Ruby’s Florida gun-running activities were repeated in the late 1950s. For more on that, see HERE, starting about a dozen paragraphs beneath the picture of Nixon and Ruby. Alone among the arms merchants surrounding his Florida activities, Ruby was never accused, to our knowledge questioned, or much less charged about his activities. Does anyone seriously doubt this could have happened without CIA protection? We even have evidence for a direct chain of command going from CIA’s David Atlee Phillips to Jack Ruby via McClendon. As I wrote way back in Post 25: American-born LEE Harvey Oswald was famously spotted at the Southland Building in Dallas in September 1963 meeting with CIA’s Phillips (Russian-speaking Lee HARVEY Oswald was living with Marina in New Orleans at the time). That’s probably when the plan to set up the Russian-speaking kid as the patsy in the JFK hit was presented to LEE. But how did LEE get his day to day orders after that? That’s where Jack Ruby came in. One of Ruby’s best friends was Gordon McLendon, co-founder of KLIF radio in Oak Cliff, and Ruby had many documented interactions between both McLendon and other KLIF staff. For just one example, a delicatessen employee named John Frickstad told the FBI he overheard Ruby on the telephone the night of the assassination saying that he (Ruby) could be reached at KLIF radio. Gordon McLendon, as luck would have it, was a very good friend of Phillips (in the 1970s, for example, the two worked together to form the Association of Former Intelligence Officers). In fact, McLendon and Phillips had known one another since both men were in their teens. For anyone who wants to pretend that the Mob killed JFK and controlled Jack Ruby, I ask again: Did the Mob protect Jacob Rubinstein and his Cuban arms shipments from U.S. federal prosecution? Did the Mob put "LHO" in front of Shaw's Trade Mart in New Orleans shilling for Castro? Did the Mob create what CIA accountant James Wilcott called the “Oswald Project”? Did the Mob pretend that "LHO" did all those things in Mexico City? Did the Mob send this "Lee Oswald" fellow to McKeown's house? Did the Mob force medical doctors to mishandle JFK’s autopsy? Did the Mob declare “Case Closed” within 24 hours of the assassination? Did the Mob put the entire U.S. Government to sleep after JFK’s assassination?
  10. Republican strategist and Nixon aide Roger Stone told Jefferson Morley: "Nixon recognized Jack Ruby and knew him since 1947 as a 'Johnson man.'" See: http://jfkfacts.org/fact-check-did-richard-nixon-know-jack-ruby/ In the same article, Morley also wrote: Stone also said he has “a direct quote from Nixon who acknowledged in 1989 that his aide Murray Chotiner brought Ruby to him in 1947 and told him LBJ wanted Ruby hired as an informant for the House UnAmerican Activities Committee,” otherwise known as HUAC. 11. That’s a great point, Brian. I hadn’t noticed until now how Ruby had an uncommonly narrow upper lip (the red part, that is). Ruby’s U.S. government connections clearly went back to the 1940s, continued in the early and late 1950s during his protected gun-running activities to Cuba, and probably were active on Nov. 22, 1963 via his good friend Gordon McClendon, long-time close associate of CIA’s David Atlee Phillips. It was Phillips, we should recall, who was famously spotted at the Southland Building in Dallas in September 1963 talking to “Lee Harvey Oswald.”
  12. How many other people who looked this much like Jack Ruby would have been associated with Richard Nixon in the late 1940s and early 1950s? Ruby, at 5'8", was a couple of inches shorter than Nixon, and quite a bit shorter than P. Bush, so the heights look about right. Age looks about right too. Some people, btw, have questioned the authenticity of the HUAC document naming "Jack Rubenstein of Chicago," but Jefferson Morley thinks it is legit. See: http://jfkfacts.org/fact-check-did-richard-nixon-know-jack-ruby/
  13. I can't prove the photo includes Ruby, but it sure looks like him to me. I see that some people say the nose and chin are different, but that can also be affected by time and lighting. For those who think there was only one "Lee Harvey Oswald," just look how different the pictures can be of him!
  14. Yes, by all means, let's disclose Ruby's probable ties to the conspirators. As I wrote way back in post #25: One of Ruby’s best friends was Gordon McLendon, co-founder of KLIF radio in Oak Cliff, and Ruby had many documented interactions between both McLendon and other KLIF staff. For just one example, a delicatessen employee named John Frickstad told the FBI he overheard Ruby on the telephone the night of the assassination saying that he (Ruby) could be reached at KLIF radio. Gordon McLendon, as luck would have it, was a very good friend of [David Atlee] Phillips (in the 1970s, for example, the two worked together to form the Association of Former Intelligence Officers). In fact, McLendon and Phillips had known one another since both men were in their teens. This is the bare bones of John’s case, but it shows how likely it is that LEE Oswald’s actions in Dallas framing his Russian-speaking counterpart in the weeks preceding the assassination were controlled by David Atlee Phillips through McLendon and Ruby. Just as we were talking about that, you started post #30 with: "Back to McKeown...." We could also talk about just how strong the evidence is that Ruby was controlling some of the events of 11/22/63.
  15. Chris, I don't object to observations that American Intel, particularly the CIA, occasionally made use of organized crime members; they clearly did, at least they did back half a century ago or so. What annoys me is the suggestion that the Mob played a significant role in planning the Kennedy assassination, or in setting up “LHO” as the patsy. That may have been a viable theory back in the days of the HSCA, but I don’t think it works any longer. This was a coup d’etat, disguised as a simple crime by a deranged “Lone Nut.” Perhaps we could find some common ground if we stopped invoking the Mob or the CIA and just talked about some indications that Ruby and LHO—American-born LHO from my perspective--may have worked together. I can provide a number of examples from JA’s research if you’d like to try that approach, and probably you have some examples of your own. What do you think?
  16. Chris, John Armstrong has been saying for years that Jack Ruby and American-born Lee Harvey Oswald were in cahoots. In post #23 of this very thread I copied some words from his write-up on my website. Here they are again. *In the summer of 1963 Dorothy Marcum was dating Ruby and her aunt worked for Ruby. Dorothy told the FBI that LEE Oswald worked for Ruby during June and July and the two men definitely knew each other. *Ruby was interviewing Francis Irene Hise for a job as a waitress when a young man entered the Carousel Club and Ruby said “Hi, Ozzie” to the young man. After she was hired Miss Hise served drinks to “Ozzie," whom she recognized after the assassination as LHO. *Another employee, Clyde Malcolm Limbough, worked for Ruby three years and saw Oswald in Ruby's office on several occasions. *Helen Kay Smith (“Pixie Lynn”), who worked at the Carousel, told the Dallas Police that she saw Ruby and Oswald together on several occasions. *Other employees of Ruby who saw Oswald in the Carousel Club were William Crowe, Wally Weston, Dixie Lynn, and Kathy Kay. *Robert Roy was Ruby's auto mechanic and said that Oswald used to drop off Ruby's car for repairs. Roy then drove Oswald back to Ruby's “burlesque house.” *Ruby parked his car at Gibbs Auto Service and occasionally allowed friends and associates to borrow his car. Leon Woods was the manager of Gibbs and kept a “check-in and check-out” book that listed the names of people who took Ruby's car from the garage. Mr. Woods gave the book to the FBI following the assassination of President Kennedy, which the FBI later denied. *During the last week of July (1963) Western Union employee Marshall Hicks delivered several telegrams addressed to “LEE Harvey Oswald” at the Rotary Apartments, 1501-1503 W. 7th St. in Dallas (while HARVEY and Marina were living in New Orleans). The FBI made no attempt to locate copies of these telegrams. *DPD Detective H.M. Hart, of the Criminal Intelligence Division, received information from a Dallas Police confidential informant who knew Ruby. The informant said that in September (1963) Ruby rented an apartment at 223 S. Ewing for LEE Oswald. NOTE: Journalist Dorothy Kilgallen wrote in the New York Journal American (June 6, 1964): “It is known that 10 persons have signed sworn depositions to the Warren Commission that they knew Oswald and Ruby to have been acquainted.” At 20, "Little Lynn" (in private life, Karen Carlin) was Jack's youngest stripper. With long locks of artificially colored gray hair, Lynn had the body of swimsuit contestant—but, on stage, wore little other than a big smile, pink heels and a matching G-string. On November 24, 1963, Little Lynn told U.S. Secret Service agent Roger Warner that she, in his words, "was under the impression that Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby, and other individuals unknown to her, were involved in a plot to assassinate President Kennedy and that she would be killed if she gave any information to authorities." Lynn reportedly died of a gunshot wound in Houston in 1964. If you are going to step on toes and break eggs, you'll have to come up with a different theory.
  17. Mafia schmafia! Here we go again…. We don’t see Ruby as an “intelligence type” because that information has been suppressed for more than half a century. Jacob Leon Rubenstein, aka Jack Ruby, was deeply involved with the U.S. government since at least as far back as the late 1940s, and was clearly protected by the CIA in the 1950s. In 1952, when Ruby was allegedly “mentally depressed” and had “hibernated in the Cotton Bowl Hotel for three or four months” he was in reality in Florida. In Florida Ruby soon became acquainted with former Cuban President Carlos Prio, who was supplying arms and munitions to Castro. 18. Well... Candy was pretty doggone sexy! Maybe that's why all of the Southwest remembered it. Or, I suppose, it could have been some sort of diversion.
  19. One important distinction to make is revealed in a subtle mistake in the sentence above. It was not the J & M Drive-in It was the J & M Drive Inn The first one gives the impression of a sixties style hamburger drive up with smiling girls on roller skates. In reality the "J & M Drive Inn" was a bar with a liquor license and a boat ramp and McKeown was doing what barkeeps do, pouring and talking. Are you sure it was called the "J & M Drive Inn," Chris? Page 587 of the HSCA's Vol 9 refers to it as "J & M Drive-In." As I say, I'm not inclined to believe much the HSCA had to say in a great many of its summary write-ups, but I don't see why they would have played loose with the name of McKeown's little business.
  20. Interesting interpretation. What were the three specific questions, and how do you think McKeown perjured himself? I haven't seen the immunity agreement, but from the testimony, it may have been at least fairly broad. A few minutes searching didn't produce much. The HSCA put up quite a bit of info on McKeown in Vol 9, but I wouldn't take much of it for granted without far more research. McKeown's testimony smacks of an implied conspiracy, a well-financed set-up of LHO, and a massive cover-up after the assassination. HSCA brass couldn't let that go unchallenged, could they? Interesting thread.
  21. Jack Ruby contacts Robert McKeown In Harris County, Texas, Deputy Sheriff Anthony Ayo was contacted by a man from Dallas who said it was a matter of life and death that he get in touch with Robert McKeown, a close friend of Castro's who supplied him with guns during the revolution. Deputy Ayo, who knew McKeown quite well, gave him the message. McKeown asked Ayo to give the caller from Dallas his (McKeown's) telephone number at work.1 In less than an hour, at 8:00 pm, McKeown received a call at the J & M Drive-In from a per- son who identified himself as "Rubenstein." NOTE: McKeown financed his J & M Drive-l n with a loan from his close friend, Carlos Prio Socarras, the former President of Cuba. 2 McKeown was one of the few people in the world who maintained good relations and was a close personal friend of both Prio Socarras (former Cuban President) and Fidel Castro. Rubenstein (Jack Ruby) said he was aware that McKeown had influence with Castro and wanted McKeown's help in getting three individuals out of Cuba. Rubenstein told McKeown that if he could achieve their release, he (McKeown) would be paid $5000 for each person. McKeown told Rubenstein that he was interested and assured him that he could obtain their release. But he also told Rubenstein that he would do nothing until he was paid $5000, in cash, up front. Rubenstein told McKeown that he would get back in touch with him and ended the conversation. This was the last time McKeown spoke with Rubenstein on the telephone.3 QUESTION: how did Ruby know about McKeown's close relationship with Castro and how to contact him? .... probably from the same people who supplied guns and munitions to Ruby, McKeown, and other gun-runners for shipment to Castro--people who were ei- ther with or connected to the CIA. Who were the three individuals that Ruby wanted to get released from Cuban prisons? Two of them were Jake Lansky and Santo Trafficante. About 3 weeks after Rubenstein telephoned McKeown from Dallas, a man appeared at the J & M Drive-In and asked to speak with him. The man, who McKeown later identified as Jack Ruby, had a proposition whereby McKeown could make $25,000. Ruby told McKeown that he had an option to purchase a large number of jeeps, which were stored in Shreveport, Louisiana, and wanted to sell them to Castro. He wanted McKeown to provide him with a letter of introduction for which he would be paid $25,000. McKeown agreed, but told Ruby that he wanted at least $5,000 in cash before he did any thing. Ruby said he would get the money and return, but never did.4 NOTE: Jack Ruby knew about McKeown's close relationship with Fidel Castro in early 1959. The public would learn about their close relationship three months later, in April 1959, when Castro flew in his private plane to Houston, Texas to meet with McKeown in person. --From "1959" in Harvey and Lee, pp. 219-220. 22. November 10 - Oswald is placed on a watch list On November 10, 1959 the FBI posted a "Wanted Notice Card" for Lee Harvey Oswald.46 The CIA put Oswald on the watch list for the "HTLINGUAL" project. This means that Oswald's mail coming into and leaving the US would be read by CIA per- sonnel under the direction of Newton "Scotty" Miller, of James Angleton's SIG (Spe- cial Investigations Group) in the Counterintelligence Section (CI). Significantly the CIA did not open a file on Oswald, even after he told US embassy personnel in Moscow that he might have something of special interest to tell the Sov- ets. When the CIA finally opened a "201" file on Oswald, a year later, it was held not by the Soviet Russia division, but by James Angleton's Special Investigations Group (SIG). For these and other reasons the author believes that Angleton and his SIC created and su- pervised the concept of Harvey and Lee. NOTE: The HSCA (House Select Committee on Assassinations) asked Angleton’s assis tant, Ray Rocca, what caused CI/SIG to open a file on Oswald. Rocca: "It would be with respect to where and what happened to DDP (Deputy Direc tor of Plans) materials with respect to a defection in any of these places." HSCA: "Again, though, Oswald had nothing to do with the DDP at this time, at least apparently. " Rocca: "I'm not saying that. You said that. " 47 Ray Rocca, Angleton s deputy, refused to say that Oswald had nothing to do with the CIAs Deputy Director of Plans (Richard Bissell). The fact that Oswald's mail was being read by the Special Investigations Group (SIG), yet a "201" file was not opened for over a year following his "defection," suggests that documentation relating to Oswald and his activities was so sensitive that it was pro- hibited from being distributed through normal channels. It appears as though Angleton, and his trusted associates in SIG, may have held the bulk of their knowledge about Oswald in memory and allowed only non-sensitive documents to be placed in his "201" file. If Angleton's group supervised the "false defector" plan, they could easily have provided Harvey Oswald with the information that allowed him to obtain a visa from the Soviet Embassy in one day. This information was virtually unknown outside of the intelligence community. Harvey Oswald in Moscow --from Harvey and Lee, Copyright © 2003, by John Armstrong, p. 276
  23. Chris, By "synch," are you referring to a process to compare the written transcript with the audio recording and to capture the differences? That would be FASCINATING, tho I suspect, considering how shocking McKeown's written testimony is, the HSCA probably left this one un-altered. I'm not familiar with this particular synch technology. Can you tell me a little more? Also, it's hard to keep up with all the URLs you're presenting. If there is a drop dead revelation in one of them, would you mind giving us a preview or putting it all in boldface or something? Otherwise, megathanks for the Kantor article, and I'll try to catch up!
  24. Agree wholeheartedly about researching just the important stuff in this thread. To me, the critical path will be the one that examines the possible existence of a direct communication channel from CIA officers such as Phillips and Angleton to Jack Ruby, and the possibility that Ruby forwarded these instructions directly to LHO. McKeown's testimony here is critical. By the way, during one of his visits to NARA, John Armstrong had an audio cassette made of McKeown's secret HSCA testimony. The tape is pretty long, but it's also quite memorable because McKeown had a fascinating dialect and style of speaking. He sure sounds believable to me. The audio tape could be converted to a digital format and put up on YouTube. Do you think there would be value to that? John has audio recordings directly from the National Archives of a number of other critical witnesses.
  25. It was my assumption, perhaps incorrect, that Angleton put Oswald on the list… but I’d still bet on it despite your information. Angleton was neck deep in all of the Oswald smoke and mirrors. The “Lee HENRY Oswald” file opened in 1960, for example, was kept in both the Office of Security AND Counterintelligence, both of which Angleton was involved in. It is John Armstrong’s contention that Angleton was a major co-conspirator in the assassination of JFK… and I’m with John on that. The cards I reproduced above are apparently from John Newman, and can be seen here.
