  1. I think beyond helping the poor South Vietnamese "democracy" defend themselves from a communist takeover the main reason I remember reading, hearing or being taught we were there is the Domino Theory.  I imagine most posters here are at least somewhat familiar with it.  Maybe a younger newer reader or two is not.  I did not realize that, at least according to this article, some US clandestine support went as far back as Truman.

  2. Thanks, I knew Shackley had been station chief at JMWAVE during the assassination period and slightly before.  I thought I'd read that people like Phillips and Morales went around him some how regarding reporting and authorization of operations, maybe reporting directly to Helms?  I did not realize he was Gehlen's interpreter or that he ran Phoenix.  It all gets so deep.  Throw in Joannides maintaining a residence in New Orleans in the summer of 63 and I read earlier somewhere on this site of another agent reportedly encountering Harvey on a flight to Dallas in November 63.  I know the latter is not part of the BBH/Sullivan and Cromwell aspect, it goes in a different direction, yet it all seems to connect.

Then we are on the same page. Suggest you listen to Sheehans 2012 lecture series entitled The Trajectory of Justice, about his experience in trying to bring Theodore Shackley and his team to justice.

Whoosh.  Right over my head.  It's probably already been done on the forum but can either of you elaborate concisely (Cliff)?  I've read  none of Sheehan, a little of Ms. Brussels and have JFK by Prouty and read/watched from his website.  R.E. "Shackley...".  How did he play into all this?

  4. The implications of the focus on the toppled bench, it's dimensions and the domino room are interesting.  Why such by the FBI, obviously with Hoover's approval, but not even noted much less questioned by the Warren Omission?  Was the FBI suspicious of Oswald or someone else hiding a gun under the bench, or were they possibly framing him?

I'll note I'm just a reader and visitor of Dealy plaza, the Paine home, Hotel Texas, a few other places and I don't think of myself as a researcher.  Some of them have reached a point that what actually happened in Dallas in detail is not that important anymore.  Nothing further can ever be proven.  The only answers to yet be found are in the big picture in Washington and the East Coast Establishment, the MIC, CIA if you will.  I disagree, it's all important.  The domino room bench, people cutting off power to the TSBD, and those seen leaving the back of it are all further nails in the coffin of the Warren Omission for future generations when exposed to them.

I have seen the diagrams of the 2nd, 3d and 6th floors before as well as the picture of Fraisers car behind the TSBD I believe on reflection.  Thanks again for the link to the FBI booklet.  They did one on the Paine and Randle homes also.  Thanks to of all people, Davey Von Pein for this link (and in turn Russ and MF herself):

  5. Last fall I spent the night in Kilgore Texas on personal business in a hotel North of town.  It and a hotel next door were the only business in that area except a tiny liquor store in the parking lot between them which looked much older than either hotel but still well kept.  After the 250 mile drive in somewhat heavy traffic (heavy in the Dallas part) I thought I'm going to have one beer and kick back an hour before I look for something to eat.  I was wearing the cap in my avatar, USS John F. Kennedy, CV-67, the only thing I found worthy of buying the last time I was in the sixth floor Owsald did it by himself museum souvenir shop other than a replica campaign refrigerator magnet.  The place said open but the door didn't.  I saw a man older than I behind the counter get up, heard a buzz and pushed the door open. He was wearing a NAVY cap.  I said "I guess maybe you were really in the Navy, people ask me when I wear this one sometimes if I served on the ship but I have to tell them no, it's a souvenir from the TSBD in Dallas, but I had a couple of cousins in Vietnam, other family in other wars.  As he handed me my change he looked me in the eye and said "I first went there in 1959".  It took me 3-4 seconds to ask "Unacknowledged?".  He told me "They told us if you get caught your on your own, we don't know you".  I forget what I said but he also told me he had a buddy that got out before he did that told him when he was discharged he asked the officer "What about all that time in Asia, why isn't that on my record?  The officer responded "That didn't happen, you weren't there".

Several weeks later I had a thought.  I wonder if JFK was ever fully apprised of what was going on in Vietnam.  He knew about the "non combat" advisors but was he aware of what "his" CIA was doing?  Did Dulles inform him of the full scope of their involvement?  It's pretty well proven Dulles knew the Bay of Pigs was a plan to fail but JFK was led to believe otherwise by him and the Military as another example of their deceptiveness, so, I'd guess not.

Ron, that is a phone line interconnection.

Welcome, and thanks for the link Larry.

Si, I didn't pay attention to the size of the inbound conduit or black lines in relation to the size/power needs of a building that size.  Have others seen the FBI  booklet before or anything on where the breaker boxes were located?   BTW, the phone lines reportedly went dead at the same time as the power went off as others may have read.

  7. Larry, I'm new here too.  I've read the forum for years, along with a few others, googled "TSBD first floor diagram" many different ways but never found or seen this from the FBI.  Thanks for the link.  It's a gold mine for me for much more than the turned over domino room bench.  Note to others, if you zoom in from the icon on the upper right you can actually read where Truly and Shelly's offices are for example.

All this may have been seen by other members before but I have to ask.  In the picture on page 9 does that look like the breaker boxes for the building right by the first floor door to the back loading dock.  I.E., could some one hanging around this area at 12:30, while everyone else was out front watching the parade, have cut the power off to the freight elevators and in turn the building (as was reported), then turned it back on when contacted to do so or at a pre appointed time, then slipped out the back door and ran like hell and or jumped in a waiting car.  Yes, I know, all speculation on my part.  No proof available ever.  Just part of something I've wondered about for years.

Lambast my brainstorming as you will, by definition it's consideration of even the most outlandish of ideas.  E.G I can't wrap my mind completely around what I've read about the Harvey and Lee story but parts seem to make sense (it's expensive to read and long/deep/time consuming to read).

    https://www.amazon.com/Harvey-Lee-John-Armstrong/dp/0974509701/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1497926843&sr=1-1&keywords=Harvey+and+lee

There are potentially other nuggets in this FBI booklet.

    Two thumbs up.

Vietnam is such a heartbreak to me. So many of my friends' older brothers never coming back alive and one great friend of mine left a quadriplegic. I didn't serve until 7 years after the end of the draft but most of my senior NCO's of that era were all vets and had their scars, real, imagined, physical and mental.

I ask: for what? Communist Vietnam is not part of any "axis of evil".

"for what?"   Helicopters and of course the fuel they required.  Vietnam reminds me how naïve I was.  My Dad (happy Fathers day) worked as an industrial engineer for Bell, that's where our bread and butter came from.  30 - 40 years later somebody pointed out in a book that every time a chopper went down they got to build a new one.  Just the transport of men and equipment to and from Vietnam was a huge business.

I still have my draft card.  Had to register in the fall of 74 for what turned out to be the last lottery drawing in the spring of 75.  I knew they had quit actually drafting people the year before but little else.  No friends or relatives dead or injured (physically).  I still did feel relived when "my" ball wasn't drawn until number 247.   A cousin told me, finally, 30 years later after his dad's funeral "they took you straight out of high school, you don't know sh*t from shinola, they give you (6 weeks, 2-3 months?) training, ship you over there and then you're getting shot at."  He'd been on disability over agent orange for years.  Had a close friend who said he'd go to Canada if he was drafted.  I would have went like a blind sheep if called.  Dad served at the end of WWII and stateside during Korea.  His brother carried shrapnel from the Philippines to his grave many years later.

I did work with a guy in 75-76 who claimed he was the second to enter a barn to search it but the first with an automatic weapon.  Said he was sprayed down the backside with an automatic weapon from the rafters.  I've seen the scars on his back and legs.  Also said he was given morphine before being put on a transport helicopter to Saigon and tore off a wristband indicating such in transit.  More morphine there.  Said they didn't think he would survive but sent him home to see his family before he passed if he made it.  He remembered waking up changing planes in San Francisco then next when landing at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth.  Believe what you want of his story.  He had no kind words for anyone of Asian appearance.

Just an aside as the forum's kind of slow.

  9. Nixon as VP in the 50's ran Maheu (then of the CIA) in an operation on Aristotle Onassis, future husband of Jacqueline Kennedy?  Deep doo doo for me.   Thank you for posting the Hougan article link.  I've read Eisenhower left the running of the CIA to Nixon but not that Nixon had actually ran a CIA agent himself, especially one so relevant later.

Maheu went on to head of security for Howard Hughes, richest man in the world at the time and while doing so connected Johnny Roselli of the mafia to the CIA for attempts to assassinate Castro as I imagine most readers of this site already know.

Nixon approves Dulles and the CIA plan for what became the Bay of Pigs that JFK inherited.

Nixon passes through Vietnam in 64 on a non political mission distributing gold bars.  Were they from Lansdale in the Philippines after WWII or the stash LBJ moved from Mount (?) in Arizona (?) to Mexico?

With Nixon's involvement in sabotage of the of the 68 peace talks, increased bombing and troop numbers and other things delaying the end of the war it seems he was involved in Vietnam from  Dien Bien Phu  until he resigned.

  10. Morales is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.  Apologies for plagiarism.  There's too much documented not to be suspicious.  Yet nothing concrete.

I read years ago about Morales and thought: heavy set dark complected man, that's what a couple of witnesses said  about a second man on the sixth floor.  So Morales was up there directing things telling walkie talkie man to tell umbrella man to pump his umbrella as a signal to fire again...

There goes what little credibility I might have obtained since joining the forum.

FWIW.  I do not have any faith in such a scenario now.

So he's back in Paradise (Tx) ?  Best wishes to him and his in what sounds like a difficult time.  If there was one book that opened my eyes beyond the mob did it books of the 80's, Crossfire was mind blowing.  The 50th anniversary revision edition is still an excellent place for someone with newfound interest to start IMHO.  Rule by Secrecy and Rise of the Fourth Reich are enlightening to some of us as well.

Yes as Mike notes above, its pretty well established today that Nixon sabotaged Johnson's attempt at a settlement in 1968.  That is from multiple sources today, including Robert Parry at Consortium News.  LBJ found out about it and was undecided as to whether or not to expose this before the election.  He decided not to, and that probably cost Humphrey the win.

IMO, its not actually correct to say NSAM 273 reversed NSAM 263.  It actually altered it to allow direct American naval participation in the Gulf Of Tonkin.  As Fletcher Prouty has noted, the actual reversal of NSAM 263 was more likely NSAM 288.  In that memo,Johnson actually allowed extensive targeting of the north with purely American air strikes.  To my knowledge, Kennedy had never done that.  LBJ then used that list for the Gulf of Tonkin retaliation. Therefore, the two NSAMs worked hand in hand in the expansion of the war.

If you are not familiar with the material, there is a reading list at the end of the presentation.  John Newman's book is a good place to begin.  But be sure to get his revised and updated version.

Thank you for the clarification regarding NSAM's 263, 73, 88.  But the change in procedure did start with the change in wording and Johnsons signing of 273 less than a week after JFK's death?

I'm finally ordering the New version of JFK and Vietnam today, though it has a somewhat hefty price tag it looks to be Historic.   Maybe my kids will learn from it someday too.

  13. Harvey Wade, Dallas 63, sees Oswald and a Dark Complected Man in the Carousel 3 weeks before the assassination.  Bad joke.  A take off on Harvey and Lee?  Henry Wade's brother or cousin?  Nope.

Billings as a Life editor should be at least a semi legit source.  But he leads back to a Warren Ommission document?

     http://www.history-matters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh25/html/WC_Vol25_0190a.htm

Well Lordy, this Tennessean does mention a scar over the left eye of this Spanish/Mexican white male...  He also felt compelled enough to contact authorities on 11/24/63, same day Ruby shoots Oswald, that afternoon / evening?  Why did nobody from the WO, FBI, CIA (to our knowledge) ever ask this guy, if your recognized Oswald being shot do you maybe remember seeing the guy who shot him in the Carousel?

I've wondered about the possibility of Morales as a planner regarding the assassination site, shooters, their placement, coordination etc. for some years now.  But would he have exposed himself to possible public observation?  Mr. Hancock mentioned the possibility of him becoming personally involved in operations in the 50's earlier in this thread.  Some called this the Big Event.  Might he have taken a more forward role in it given animosity over the Bay of Pigs and perceived Communistic weakness.   Food for thought, nothing definitive for me.

BTW, didn't a Dallas lawyer see LHO in the Carousel in November also as well as never interviewed employees?

  14. I like the presentation/format, the pictures as you read along add to the context.  I've not read in depth on the subject matter and found multiple points informative as a result.  Been going to read John Newman's JFK and Vietnam for years (did make it through Oswald and the CIA though a library copy, wish I had it for reference).  Taking it from the 50's to the 70's puts it all in perspective.  This could almost be a book within itself.  I have read on line arguments that NSAM 273 in effect reversed 263 only (?) four days after JFK's death.  Also, was it not in the last 2-3 months something came out about Nixon sabotaging  Peace talks in 68?  As I mentioned, the article is educational to me as is, thank you for it.

  15. .I have great hopes for this mock trial, both in hopes of legitimacy and publicity in pursuit of the truth regarding John Kennedy's assassination.  That prior attempts are lacking or flat out disinformation is well illustrated.  Lest we forget one can be on the Jury themselves.  Thanks to David Belin, Esquire.

Post It note to self inside of front flap of library copy purchased in mid 2000's:  Roger Craig said David Belin changed his testimony FOURTEEN TIMES.  Here's the tip of the iceberg.
