  1. Jim, many other top draw actors of that day ( Stewart, Gable, Fonda, etc ) were in the primes of their careers and yet they still joined to serve. No big movie studio threatened to sue them if they joined. I just can't buy that Wayne excuse as true. Ronnie Reagan "kind of" served. He was 30 years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed. On April 18, 1942, Reagan was ordered to active duty for the first time. Due to his poor eyesight, he was classified for limited service only, which excluded him from serving overseas.[37] His first assignment was at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation at Fort Mason, California, as a liaison officer of the Port and Transportation Office.[38] Upon the approval of the Army Air Forces (AAF), he applied for a transfer from the cavalry to the AAF on May 15, 1942, and was assigned to AAF Public Relations and subsequently to the First Motion Picture Unit (officially, the 18th AAF Base Unit) in Culver City, California.[38] On January 14, 1943, he was promoted to first lieutenant and was sent to the Provisional Task Force Show Unit of This Is the Army at Burbank, California.[38] He returned to the First Motion Picture Unit after completing this duty and was promoted to captain on July 22, 1943.[39] In January 1944, Reagan was ordered to temporary duty in New York City to participate in the opening of the Sixth War Loan Drive, which campaigned for the purchase of war bonds. He was reassigned to the First Motion Picture Unit on November 14, 1944, where he remained until the end of World War II.[39] By the end of the war, his units had produced some 400 training films for the Air Force, including cockpit simulations for B-29 crews scheduled to bomb Japan. He was separated from active duty on December 9, 1945, as an Army captain.
  2. Isn't it obvious? Millions of American men like John Wayne knew they could lose everything they had like marriages, jobs, financial means and the ultimate - their limbs and lives- by joining the military in WWII. They went anyway.
  3. Just watched the final scenes of "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance." "When The Legend Becomes Fact ... Print The Legend." Donald J. Trump. "The Man Who Made America Great Again."
  4. Ward Bond and John Wayne. Big burly rugged tough guys. Real men! Super patriot gung-ho war hawks. Yet neither served in World War II outside of a few month long USO tour by Wayne. Was John Wayne a draft dodger? Dear Cecil: Il Cecil replies: John Wayne, draft dodger? Oh, what delicious (if cheap) irony! But that judgment is a little harsh. As Garry Wills tells the story in his book John Wayne’s America: The Politics of Celebrity (1997), the Duke faced a tough choice at the outset of World War II. If he wimped out, don’t be so sure a lot of us wouldn’t have done the same. At the time of Pearl Harbor, Wayne was 34 years old. His marriage was on the rocks but he still had four kids to support. His career was taking off, in large part on the strength of his work in the classic western Stagecoach (1939). But he wasn’t rich. Should he chuck it all and enlist? Many of Hollywood’s big names, such as Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, and Clark Gable, did just that. (Fonda, Wills points out, was 37 at the time and had a wife and three kids.) But these were established stars. Wayne knew that if he took a few years off for military service, there was a good chance that by the time he got back he’d be over the hill. Besides, he specialized in the kind of movies a nation at war wanted to see, in which a rugged American hero overcame great odds. Recognizing that Hollywood was an important part of the war effort, Washington had told California draft boards to go easy on actors. Perhaps rationalizing that he could do more good at home, Wayne obtained 3-A status, “deferred for [family] dependency reasons.” He told friends he’d enlist after he made just one or two more movies. The real question is why he never did so. Wayne cranked out thirteen movies during the war, many with war-related themes. Most of the films were enormously successful and within a short time the Duke was one of America’s most popular stars. His bankability now firmly established, he could have joined the military, secure in the knowledge that Hollywood would welcome him back later. He even made a half-hearted effort to sign up, sending in the paperwork to enlist in the naval photography unit commanded by a good friend, director John Ford. But he didn’t follow through. Nobody really knows why; Wayne didn’t like to talk about it. A guy who prided himself on doing his own stunts, he doesn’t seem to have lacked physical courage. One suspects he just found it was a lot more fun being a Hollywood hero than the real kind. Many movie star-soldiers had enlisted in the first flush of patriotism after Pearl Harbor. As the war ground on, slogging it out in the trenches seemed a lot less exciting. The movies, on the other hand, had put Wayne well on the way to becoming a legend. “Wayne increasingly came to embody the American fighting man,” Wills writes. In late 1943 and early 1944 he entertained the troops in the Pacific theater as part of a USO tour. An intelligence big shot asked him to give his impression of Douglas MacArthur. He was fawned over by the press when he got back. Meanwhile, he was having a torrid affair with a beautiful Mexican woman. How could military service compare with that? In 1944, Wayne received a 2-A classification, “deferred in support of [the] national … interest.” A month later the Selective Service decided to revoke many previous deferments and reclassified him 1-A. But Wayne’s studio appealed and got his 2-A status reinstated until after the war ended. People who knew Wayne say he felt bad about not having served. (During the war he’d gotten into a few fights with servicemen who wondered why he wasn’t in uniform.) Some think his guilty conscience was one reason he became such a super patriot later. The fact remains that the man who came to symbolize American patriotism and pride had a chance to do more than just act the part, and he let it pass. Cecil Adams Some might wonder why Ward Bond didn't serve in the military in World War II like say John Wayne and other stars in Hollywood did back in those days? The answer to that is because Ward Bond was an epileptic, and he was rejected by the draft board during World War II. Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda and Clark Gable all served. And they were the same age group as Wayne and Bond. Bond was 37 in 1940.
  5. I understand this book is devastating regards Trump. But will the MSM for all intents and purposes down/play bury it with little follow up coverage as they have every other Trump corruption piece? The MSM could break Trump if only they would give these exposes the long term and front line coverage they deserve. How about a 60 Minute piece on this book. How about a 60 Minute piece on the Trump sexual predator book "All The Presidents Women-Donald Trump And The Making Of A Sexual Predator" ? Or, one featuring mistreated, intimidated and misaligned Ukraine ambassador Marie Yovanovitch? No, instead 60 Minutes prefers to investigate and run much less important subjects. Anything negative about Donald Trump is off limits not just with 60 Minutes, but with almost all our MSM. If the Trump book "All The Presidents Women - President Trump And The Making Of A Sexual Predator" had been about Obama, the Republican Mass Media propaganda machine would have turned this story into a daily front page/scroll coverage event for years. The John Kerry 2004 Presidential election "Swift Boat" campaign got 10X the coverage as did Howard Dean's "Scream" after winning the Iowa caucus back in 2004.
  6. Yes Steve. I have read the pages regards Donnell Whittier & John Elrod etc. Thanks for the referral. Elrod of course was featured on one of those TV tabloid shows years ago. I always found the Mark Lane interview of Nancy Hamilton ( Perrin Rich? ) intriguing and revealing to say the least. She herself seemed like an unpredictable edge type character with a history of disfunctional domestic, marital ( ex-con husbands?) and parenthood issues and at the same time involved in many odd work and travel experiences ( all around the country ) such as informant positions for different police departments, working the bar for Jack Ruby in his Dallas club, working as a prostitute and later involved with some equestrian business in the North East U.S. when Lane interviewed her? But clearly a very street smart sharp sounding person as well. We learn through her account of working for Jack Ruby in his club what a xxxx District Attorney Henry Wade was in his act of pretending not to know Jack Ruby as well as he did including his actual coming into the Carousel Club for drinks. Same with Chief Curry in his downplaying how many DPD officers knew Jack Ruby. Her account of the gun running meeting where Jack Ruby appeared as the bag man ( the money payout person ) is sounding more credible in cross referencing other sources that are shown in the pages above. 7:18NOW PLAYING Jack Ruby & The Dallas Police How tight was Jack Ruby with the Dallas Police and how many officers did he know ? In this interview with Mark Lane, former ...
  7. So intriguing. How close was the Adolphus to the Carousel Club?
  8. These pages are really interesting. You just click on them to enlarge them. Fascinating stuff about Ruby you never read about in the Warren Commission Report. Nancy Perrin Rich's tale from Mark Lane's documentary interview of her concerning Ruby seems more and more credible.
  9. Can anyone here elaborate on this Dallas Morning News article about the FBI receiving a tip warning of Oswald's killing? The photo is so small you can't read the print. I have not heard of this article and the FBI Oswald killing warning tip it reports. Possible related search: lee harvey oswald shot
  10. My insight may seem trite to you RW , but it's still true and you know it. Trump's biggest Achilles' heel with women voters will be his sexual predator history. As it should be. The guy's long time demeaning and using sexual behavior with and toward women is in the Harvey Weinstein realm as far as numbers and boldness and should be constantly recounted as such. We have a sexual predator in the White House. If the Dems don't hammer that truth this election, what else have they got? And by the way, there probably still are at least a few half-way informative articles in 3 year old copies of Newsweek. I'll read them if I can't find and browse older issue New Yorker cartoons.
  11. Buttigieg is a heroin dealer? I think the main key to the 2020 election, if the electoral results aren't manipulated in key states like Michigan in 2016 again ( 10's of thousands of votes went missing in Wayne County - Detroit ) will be the women voting base. Women outnumber men now in our elections. If there is any room to pull any Republican and especially so-called "undecided" votes away from Trump it would be their women voters. I still think it's possible that at least a small number of Republican household and undecided women voters in this country will be open minded enough to not be totally, blindly locked into the Trump voting cult. I believe that there is still room for turning some percentage of these women voters against Trump because the man has so much sordid baggage in the area of using, disrespecting and even sexually accosting women in his lifetime history of behavior and words that shout this. The Billy Bush tape should be a cornerstone of a Trump misogynist information campaign ( and replayed again and again as much as possible like Howard Dean's Iowa victory scream ) as well as the new book "All The President's Women - Donald Trump the Making Of A Predator" detailing 43 personal accounts ( 43!) of Trump's aggressive unwanted sexual behavior. Don't let the Trump/Jeffrey Epstein video go unused. Same with Trump's never ending public pronouncements that "all" the women who have ever made incriminating sexual behavior charges against him are "all" fabricating these claims and are "all" XXXXX. And on and on. Make this issue Trump's Willie Horton and or Swiftboat yoke. As it should be. If there was this much sordid, amoral sexual behavior dirt on Obama, he would never have been elected. The Repubs know how to make and keep such issues in the everyday news media zeitgeist. Way better than The Democrats. So, the key is how much of this sordid Trump history reality one can get into the main stream media and other widely read or heard information venues during the next 7 months to adequately keep this issue in the mental forefront of millions of women voters. Women voters have been turning elections more and more and almost always on the Democratic side with several in traditional Republican strongholds. Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama. In the case of the shocking Alabama Democratic win for their senatorial race, Doug Jones would never have defeated Roy Moore if Moore's sexual predatory background hadn't been exposed and publicized as much as it was. Even so, Moore only lost that election by what 12,000 votes? But you know that tens of thousands of Alabama's women voters ( even some Republicans) could not allow themselves to vote for a sexual predator like Moore. With Trump, this life long sexual amoral aspect of his personal life has to be kept an issue in this campaign and not downplayed or underplayed. Trump has to be super aggressively portrayed as the worst possible candidate to promote and respect women and their interests ( which he is in spades anyway ) in this election. You can't keep playing softball with hardball Republicans. This real Trump sexual behavior problem issue will be a difficult one for Trump women voters to defend and ignore if it is constantly kept in the media spotlight.
  12. I wonder what other members here think of the other person shown in the Oswald N.O. leaflet passing photo who looks remarkably like Texas School Book Depository employee Bill Shelley? The resemblance is close enough to seriously consider it as a match imo. There are photos of Shelley standing right outside the Texas School Book Depository building in the immediate aftermath of the JFK shooting with his exaggerated pompadour hair style and extremely sunken cheek bony face that seem to be so similar to the Oswald N.O. photo person.
  13. Image: A Time for Truth Cruz Sr. was born the same year as Oswald -1939. He would be 24 at the time of Oswald's leaflet passing. I see similar hair lines in both these pictures of Cruz Sr. Same hair style too. The foreheads seem similar in vertical length, receding farther back from brows to hair line and overall outline shape. Face shape similar with pronounced receding chin. Both have skinny necks. Eyes not noticeably different. Ears and their vertical location on the side of the head as well. If the Oswald leaflet worker isn't Cruz Sr. he at least looks more like the Cruz Sr. mug shot than not. And Cruz Sr. was involved in anti-Castro group gatherings when he lived in Texas just before moving to N.O. He gave talks to interested groups about his story of coming to America and making an improbable successful effort to get a college education here despite being poverty stricken when he arrived. It is also improbable that politically minded Cruz Sr. would not have known about the DRE in New Orleans when he arrived and lived there. Or that he never once met or had any discussions with other ex-pat Cubans while he was there. He surely knew who some of the most prominent politically involved New Orleans Cubans like 29 year old Carlos Bringuier were at the time. And it is improbable that Cruz Sr. didn't read about the Carlos Bringuier/Lee Oswald physical confrontation in downtown N.O. as it was in the paper and also reported on the radio and television news. Plus, there was even a broadcast debate between Bringuier and Oswald soon after the incident. Cruz Sr. had to have known about these events. He was right there in N.O. when they all happened and he was too intelligent and politically minded himself not to have been aware of them. Cruz Sr.s later adult life is full of out of the ordinary odd doings ( church leader especially ) that compels you to look at him and his vague statements regards them with rational truth questioning suspicion ... imo.
  14. I wish I had lots of extra funds to hire a few top human body identification experts and submit to them the photo of the suited, lanky man walking past the three tramps in front of the Texas School Book Depository the afternoon of 11,22,1963. The photo is known as the Edward Lansdale picture. The photo shows this man from the back only, but it is almost a full body shot and clearly shows the actual walking gate of this person which is a telling dynamic in comparative body type analysis. There are many photos of Lansdale at different ages in the public domain. I feel sure there are enough of these that experts could have solid reference material for adequate comparison. Both Colonel L.Fletcher Prouty and Marine General Victor Krulak worked with and knew Lansdale very well over many years and after viewing the Dealey Plaza Tramp photo they were certain it was Lansdale in it. Can you imagine the implications if it can be proved that the man in the Tramp photo was truly Lansdale?
  15. From pictures I have seen of Raphael Cruz Sr. in his older days, I believe there is enough resemblance to this young man in the Oswald leaflet photo that it could be Cruz. Facially ( forehead shape and hair line and type ) and a short man as Cruz Sr. is. And you do know Cruz Sr. had moved to New Orleans from Texas and was living there during the time Oswald was there and doing this leaflet passing. Cruz Sr. was very active in Cuban ex-patriot activity in Texas. We are to believe that after his move to New Orleans he simply dropped out of such activity in the hottest Cuban anti-Castro activity area behind Miami? Cruz must have known Carlos Bringuier who was head of propaganda and publicity for the New Orleans chapter of the DRE there. In other words...a big shot in the Cuban community. In what biographical info sites I have searched for on Cruz Sr. there is a black hole of his time and activities when he lived in New Orleans. And Cruz himself has been silent about his time in NO and also known for being involved some shady business and religious doings throughout his adult life. He doesn't come across as some innocent, humble and honest average Cuban heritage Joe type.
  16. Trump's most successful "main" base capturing engine all along ( there are others for sure ) has been the massive illegal immigration issue. It's his most effective broad base "anger" inciting issue. It is a real and entire nation effecting issue that the Democrats have mistakenly downplayed and still do. Estimates of 25 to 35 million or even more mostly extremely poor and poorly educated illegals in just 40+ years. Millions of whom have babies here as soon as they can which gives these children U.S. citizenship and increases the Hispanic ethnic population faster than any other group in the country the last 30 years. Hispanics ( even today millions of whom are illegal ) make up "over half" of California's 40+ million population now and are the "majority" population ethnic group. Just 50 years ago ( 1970 ) 2 million Hispanics comprised just 12% of California's entire population. Whites with 15.5 million made up 75% of California's total population. That's a massive migration influx ( mostly illegally ) with hugely impacting accompanying social, cultural and language and population increase stress change in just two generations. Largest in our history in that short of time. The impact of this massive mostly poor single ethnic group migration in a relatively brief time period is honestly society changing, in debatable good and bad ways and unprecedented in sheer numbers. Spanish has replaced English as the first and dominant language now in many of the urban areas of the state. Almost all of the traditional social structures in the state have been stressed to unprecedented levels with millions of constantly arriving new immigrants needing and using these costly services. Welfare, education, health care, crime and criminal justice including law enforcement, courts and incarceration, transportation, housing, over-population with greater and often unmet infrastructure needs and demands, etc. There are many nation wide social, cultural and economic impact issues that come with massive unchecked illegal immigration and that tens of millions of Americans are way more concerned and angry about ( including traditional xenophobic bias ) than both political parties wanted to acknowledge and deal with until Mr. Shameless seized upon this well of anger and set fire to it like a rabid arsonist. Nixon didn't have this anger gift issue. His main inflaming torch was a fabricated fear issue that painted the Democrats as Hippie, free love, unpatriotic, law and order threatening drug crazed commies! Nixon's and his propaganda machine had much of the country boogie man fearing that if they voted for longer side burn wearing, larger colorful tie and shirt collar sporting George McGovern that hippie drug using hords would come and get their daughters and turn them into Manson cult type sex zombies! Nixon actually ran on a "Law And Order" respecting platform ( Repubs safe, honest, law abiding versus the Dems as dangerous drug taking hooligans ) that they milked to an almost mass hysteria level. And this perversely exaggerated "Boogie Man" propaganda campaign worked to initiate the most one-sided Republican Presidential vote victory ever! Yet, as we all know now...the opposite reality truth was that Nixon and his power enablers turned out to be "the most corrupt" law breaking White House occupiers in our history! They all went to prison! 25 or more! Yet, a huge majority of voting Americans actually fell for Nixon's false reality media brainwashing that they were in scary trouble if they voted for the long haired hippie Dems led by a misguided dupe McGovern who in reality was a true WWII combat hero and who was 100X more honest and law abiding than the crook Nixon. The ease with which American's fell for this Republican false reality boogie man propaganda scam in such massive numbers revealed one of the greatest flaws of our society imo. It's the same with Trump now. Half the country believing he is a savior versus a crook. To a blind degree. Inspired by massive TV and radio propaganda that tells them daily the opposite of his crooked and amoral history or downplays the constant lies, life long moral indiscretion and constitution violation acts in his bid to emasculate anyone who opposes or even criticizes him ... including our own Congress.
  17. Sounds hard to believe that Stone's legal team didn't do a basic social media background check of his jurors which would have revealed her public tweets. Any sharp teenager today knows how to find such things in the time in takes to eat three slices of pizza. There are countless internet background search companies that can find this stuff in minutes. Twitter-Facebook- Linkedin, etc. And I'll wager that some ( at least one ) on the jury were Trump people as well. It's a meaningless point however in regards to the unprecedented political influencing scheme Trump's Roy Cohn-Bill Barr is trying to pull off with Stone's case.
  18. Just in: New Coronavirus numbers. 14,000 new cases diagnosed in China ... in one day! Over 250 deaths in this same one day time period. That's a jump of 2 1/2 times the previous daily average rates. Airlines extending ban on China travel until end of April. Previous ban time frame was end of March. Trump's people worried about stock market turn downs, here and globally if this virus gets out of control in China and elsewhere.
  19. Barr really should be impeached. In many ways he's as bad as Nixon's A.G. John Mitchell. And Mitchell went to prison!
  20. Doug make that FOUR Prosecutors in the Stone case quitting now ! Yes, 4 !!! Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal ( former Federal Prosecutor and former Marine ) just said on CNN it is worse that Nixon's Watergate "Saturday Night Massacre." Trump is simply going bananas with his impeachment dismissal emboldened dictatorial will and his private attorney/lap dog William Barr is doing his bidding no matter how outrageous and unethical. It's gut wrenching sad and even surreal to see the crazy circus of Trump's dictator reign every day go even crazier. But, his blindly loyal base will follow him into Hell.
  21. Can you imagine if the DPD never publicly announced Oswald's transfer and did this in secret with a secured basement with no newsmen? Oswald's movement security couldn't have been more compromised if the DPD had simply handed him to the lynch mob outside. Seriously, Oswald was murdered right in their own building with some 70 armed personnel standing by. Wouldn't have happened if they just did the most basic common sense security measures instead of parading Oswald around and through unchecked crowd packed surroundings. The heads of the DPD should all have been fired for this ultimate worst case scenario security let down regarding the most important criminal suspect in our country's history. I still feel anger and suspicion watching videos of strip joint owning Jack Ruby gunning down Oswald right inside the DPD building surrounded by 70+ armed security personnel.
  22. This video shows how close Jack Ruby was in getting his leg broken by the rear of the moving car. His leg is hit and even bent a little by the impact. An impact just a couple inches more into Ruby's leg and there could have been some serious bone breakage. I had never known of this part of the shooting until this video. Notice also, Oswald's feet are literally lifted off the ground from the impact of Ruby's shot combined with Leavelle and perhaps L.C. Graves pulling Oswald back at the same time. So, yes, Oswald may have fallen on his head with his feet off the ground. That would be quite an impact. I also just realized something else while watching this video. Those of us in America who witnessed Ruby whacking Oswald "live" on TV are actually an interesting part of one of this country's most important historical events. How many alive Americans today can say they were live TV witnesses to such an Earth Shaking historical event? Each year more and more of us live telecast witnesses pass away. I wish I had grand kids and who would care enough to want to know that their grand pappy actually witnessed such an important event in person ( through the TV ) and in live time. Other than the Ruby/Oswald story about the only other dramatic thing I ever experienced and could regale them with was my pet sitting of Joel Grey's and Barbara Eden's dogs while I was employed at Doris Day's Cypress Inn hotel in Carmel, Ca over ten years ago. Or perhaps also my up close UFO experience in Pebble Beach, CA 1996 or 97. Ha!
  23. I am leaning toward the boom mic moving when the picture here showing it was taken. It could have moved out of the next still shot view in one second's time if it was already moving imo. Also, William. J. "Blackie" Harrison is the big cigar smoking fellow coming in from the right of Ruby even "before" Ruby got off the shot into Oswald. Harrison obviously noticed Ruby breaking out too far from the security line that Harrison had helped form and he was already putting his arm out to impede him. Harrison the police officer knew Ruby well for many years. Used to pop into Ruby's places to check for underage customers and "get a cold drink" from time to time. See Harrison's WC testimony. Ruby, whether Harrison could see him or not just before Oswald is brought within feet of Harrison and the press crowd, is literally just feet from Harrison's left side - arms length - when he jumps out to shoot Oswald. Yet, Harrison never notices his old friend Jack Ruby standing right next to him at any time? One really should read Harrison's WC testimony and especially his recollections of his actual presence in the DPD basement press crowd before and leading up to Ruby's leaping right past him to whack Oswald. Also, through Blackie Harrison's testimony like so many other DPD personnel who were on duty and inside the DPD building the entire weekend while Oswald was there and being shuffled around so much, one can't help but sense the absolute crazy chaos of scores of frantic news people being allowed to crowd into almost every floor, office and hall way the entire time, bumping into and getting in the way of all the police people and tying up their phone lines and snapping photos and yelling, pushing and shoving to get close to Oswald while he was being moved. Detective Jim Leavelle who was escorting Oswald from office to office earlier than Sunday morning, also many times described this press crowd madness and liked to tell the story of the press man who had the desperate gall to actually get down and pop his head up under Leavelle's crotch to get a picture of Oswald whereupon Leavelle sent the man flying with a powerful well placed kick. Leavelle would smile with almost boastful gratification when sharing his butt kicking prowess in sending this press man flying. Point being...how could any responsible police agency in charge of the security of the most important and threatened criminal suspect in America's history allow their entire building to turn into a complete circus of camera and microphone crazy newsmen crowding into almost every area of their operations such as right outside the room where Oswald is being interrogated more than once and tying up DPD phone lines right in their own offices! The basement move was just as stupid crazy. Dark, crowded, cramped. Oswald's day light transfer time and location broadcast to the public. Creating a lynch mob yelling crowd across the street from the Main Street DPD basement entrance? And basement security so lax armed, crazy strip joint owner Ruby just saunters right in at the most important time of Oswald's presence there? Please! That whole security effort for Oswald just makes you sick when you realize how negligent it was. So negligent, it didn't make sense and was beyond any explanation of simple naivete on the part of the DPD.
