  1. Good to see Bart doing a Webcast. He should be a member of this forum (again). Great resource.
  2. Was Hunt still working for the CIA? Jeff Morley makes a pretty good case in his new book. How does one interpret this? https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=103901#relPageId=82
  3. Another possible brother or cousin of Juan Caballero would be Armando Caballero-Parodi. Armando was a member of the AMTABBY team along with Antonio "Tony" Soto. (Soto goes to the Congo) Armando was recruited by Segundo Borges (Item 1) for AMWORLD where he would become part of Borges commando team in Costa Rica. Borges - The Wheaton Lead It appears that the CIA may have performed its own internal investigation of those missions in the mid-1970s. Two memoranda from June and August, 1975 record the statement of a Cuban CIA officer (in 1961 a contract employee) that he participated in three abortive Cuban infiltration missions, including an effort to land him near Varadero Beach. The objective of that mission was a long range rifle attack on Fidel Castro. One of the memos mentions the names of two Cubans involved in the mission, "Felix" and "Segundo". Based on this information, it appears that Carl Jenkins may have been transferred out of Guatemala to manage a number of covert infiltration missions, involving at least one which involved Felix Rodriquez and a sniper attack on Fidel Castro. Segundo Borges The "Segundo" mentioned in the CIA document is Segundo BORGES Ransola. Felix Rodriquez verified Segundo's identity and role in the Castro assassination project in an interview many years later - stating that both he and Segundo trained in Panama and then were asked to volunteer for the infiltrations. Rodriquez noted that both he and Segundo were only 19 years old when they entered training in the Panama camp and then were prepared and sent on special missions into Cuba prior to the Bay of Pigs. In the summer of 1963, Segundo Borges joined Manual Artime for a recruiting trip to Fort Benning, Georgia. The stated goal was to recruit men for a new combat effort based out of offshore camps. Although Borges was initially identified as one of Artime's aides at the "Nicaraguan Revolutionary Training Camp" his real role was leader of the AMWORLD maritime infiltration team. [ xiii ] During a November, 1963 recruiting visit to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Borges reportedly told trainees that Artime had money to buy arms and ships and many places where he could establish a training base.
  4. More INS files with a thanks to Bart Kamp and Malcolm Blunt. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UOlJOgNLvgiGpi5u9mg3V-MNzqpsDXW6?usp=sharing
  5. Some interesting information on Wendall Roache, David Smith and the INS thanks to Bart Kamp and Malcolm Blunt! More later. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CVGp98YhEWDZkpc17OADuQ6louxqIWTg/view?usp=sharing
  6. Tom, You're right. I thought I had Kohly in New Orleans. I can't seem to find that ref.
  7. Tom, I think the Cuban Karate black belt was Mario Kohly, Jr. Most did not know the difference between Judo and Karate back in the 60's. Frank Sturgis also trained with him. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=91348#relPageId=9&search="mario_Kohly" and black Another Black Belt would have been the above Wilfredo Morales. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=52123#relPageId=13
  8. Jim, You are right. I need to go back and look at them to refresh my failing memory. 🙂
  9. Tom, I found a long discussion - Arnesto was teaching Oswald Spanish during the summer of '63.
  10. Tom, If my failing memory is still working, I believe the MDC camp was funded by Luis Somoza as part of the Somoza plan. Due to conflicts with Artime's AMWORLD program, the Somoza plan never went anywhere. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=21906#relPageId=2 I think we had quite discussion on here about FOUR camps that were in the New Orleans area in 1963. I haven't found it yet.
  11. Thanks Tom, We went into quite a bit here - https://www.maryferrell.org/pages/Essay_-_The_Wheaton_Lead.html
  12. I can't seem to paste a photo. I'm limited to 127 K? Try this. - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BUl-q0Q-VdXNJtNQDhlL2MAHvj2ZhOdS/view?usp=sharing
  13. Another possible reason this doc was withheld for a bit is the info that is on page 15 (16 by arrow). Pena mentions Juan Caballero, the CIA training camp and the Cadre. The Camp was Belle Chasse aka JMMOVE. The "cadre" was made up of the original group of Brigade members. Most of these 30-40 were followers of Manuel Artime. Their purpose was to become proficiently trained in paramilitary tactics - weapons, explosives, infiltration, maritime. Some would train to be "frogmen" (Ramon Orozco) and others train as paratroopers (Nestor "Tony" Izquierdo). They were screened by Ernie Sparks, given lie detector tests, and processed through Useppa Island by Carl Jenkins and "Gordon." Jenkins and Col. Glen "Rocky" Farnsworth would train these guys in Panama. The idea was for these first recruits to train the next few batches of recruits. This is how the "cadre" ended up at JMMOVE. They were to help train Nino Diaz's (AMNORM) group. Diaz's group was to be the "feint" that drew Castro's men away from the Bay of Pigs. The cadre, most were members of the AMHAZE team, would become raiders and small infiltration teams. This group would later continue to work with Rip Robertson, Grayston Lynch and David Morales deputy chief of Ops, Bob Wall. Pena mentioned Juan Caballero's brother and cousin. The cousin supposedly looked like Oswald. Juan's brother was most likely Conrado Caballero. Conrado was an early recruit (Brigade number 2547) and was at Belle Chasse. He would later work for Rip Robertson running infiltration and sabotage missions in Cuba. Some would join up with Artime for his AMWORLD program run by Henry Hecksher and Carl Jenkins. Conrado at AMWORLD. Item 8 as a recruiter - https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=227#relPageId=8
  14. Tom, Bill Simpich had this to say: Curiously, the evidence that Oswald collaborated with Customs is stronger than with any other agency. Cuban exile Orestes Pena testified that he saw Oswald chatting on a regular basis with FBI Cuban specialist Warren de Brueys, David Smith at Customs, and Wendell Roache at INS. Pena told the Church Committee that Oswald was employed by Customs. Informant Joseph Oster went farther, saying that Oswald's handler was David Smith at Customs. Church Committee staff members knew that David Smith "was involved in CIA operations". Orestes Pena's handler Warren DeBrueys admitted he knew David Smith. Oswald was also frequently seen with Juan Valdes, who described himself as a "customs house broker". During January 1961, two FDC members named Joseph Moore and a man named "Oswald" went to a Ford outlet and requested the purchase of ten trucks to send to the Cuban exiles. Lee Oswald could not have been involved, as it was well-known that he had defected to the USSR. The use of Oswald's name was probably a convenient device that was considered useful if there was a need to "dirty" him up in the future. https://www.maryferrell.org/pages/Essay_-_Oswald_Legend_9.html
  15. Jim, I find Pena very credible for this testimony and for other reasons. Mellen would be right (See Tom's reply below).
  16. Pena's HSCA testimony was released as part of the 2017 batch of docs. It is one of the more enlightening and frustrating interviews that I've read. He takes you to the edge of some interesting revelations but then stops. Of note: - He throws FBI SA Warren DeBrueys under the bus. He states that he was DeBrueys' informant, and so was Oswald - He hints that he also worked for the CIA as an asset/informant - Captain David Ferrie was close to Carlos Bringuier and visited him many times - Ferrie taught Pena how to fly - Sergio Arcacha Smith and Ferrie were close. -SAS also worked with Banister - The Cuban Training Camp was key to who killed JFK Plus some other interesting tidbits. Can be read here - https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=148260#relPageId=6&search="orest_pena"
  17. Bishop did have some interesting connections of course. His CIA DCD contact was Col. Manny Chavez aka "Chavitts" in some docs. Chavez debriefed Cuban refugees along with Luis Rodriguez (Army Intel) under Justin Gleichauf. Chavez had shared a desk with David Morales for 4 months in 1960 when Chavez was first contacted by Bishop. Chavez would later work on the AMWORLD program working with Manuel Artime and Rafael Quintero on security issues. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=46704#relPageId=6 As far as Arnesto Rodriguez, his brother was Emilio Rodriguez aka AMIRE-1. That's as close to JMWAVE that you can get.
  18. Jim, Didn't Peter Vea produce an index of Garrison's docs from way back? I think I might still have that. If I remember right Jim Lesar had most of the docs.
  19. Paul. Wheaton said this: "Carl Jenkins was a retired high-level paramilitary specialist for the CIA.....He headed up the largest covert base in Laos during the secret CIA wars over there when the open war was going on in Vietnam.....[Jenkins] invited me to stay in their home.....In 1985 he [Jenkins] became my Washington representative when I took over as Vice President for a cargo airline called National Air.....I was like a brother to Carl.....Carl was the head recruiter and trainer of the Bay of Pigs invasion for the assassins and saboteurs that were going into Cuba for the pre-invasion to lay the groundwork for the Bay of Pigs.....He trained the 17, 18, 19 year old exiles and became their father figure.....Chi Chi Quintero became like a son to Carl.....He [Quintero] and two or three others, Felix Rodriguez, Nestor Pino, all went to Vietnam with him.....Chi Chi was a shooter. He was trained by I.W. Harper.....There was a CIA funded program to assassinate Castro and Carl was in charge of training the Cubans from Miami.....They were the ones that diverted the Castro assassination funds and training for their own agenda to snuff Kennedy.....They had a thing called a triangulation shooting team.....[Describing the Bay of Pigs and JFK backing off the air strike] They were furious and still are to this day.....And there was another clique above them.....they would reminisce about the past and what went wrong and what went right....." Essay - The Wheaton Lead (maryferrell.org)
  20. Great new essay by Jeff Morley discussing all of the above. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/06/16/if-you-need-dirty-job-done-straight-talk-marine-vet-about-cia-plot-assassinate-castro.html
  21. Joe, There were such weapons back then. According to Carl Jenkins, whom Jeff Morley interviewed for his new book, Scorpions' Dance, the rifle a FAL, was a NATO rifle whose ammunition could be readily sourced. Jenkins considered Nestor Sanchez a good friend. Jenkins became the case officer for Cubela in 1964 before handing these duties off to Manuel Artime.
  22. Paul, Thanks for bringing this up. Cubela was a piece of the larger program to "split the regime." It was a multi-faceted program that was started by William Harvey's Task Force W and was later modified by Des Fitzgerald's Special Affairs Staff. Mostly run by the SAS/SO (Special Operations) branch with lots of help from JMWAVE. Most, if not all of Harvey's guys were retained. Members of SO were guys like Henry Hecksher, Alfonso Rodriguez, Seymour Bolten, Charles Anderson, and Nestor Sanchez. Bruce Cheever was Fitzgerald's deputy and Halpern was executive assistant (some unredacted pages here) to Harvey and later Fitgerald. Split the regime. I find it interesting that Cubela was "recruited" during the World Youth Festival during 1962. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=180503#relPageId=7 There was some thinking that Cubela was a double agent. - https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=152591#relPageId=4
  23. Ron, Here's a more direct source. Cover and plan for Fitzgerald - https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=47982#relPageId=2 From Nestor Sanchez. "Great Minds Think Alike." Gotta love that. This is the beginning of the plan to meet. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=47987#relPageId=2 Dainold is a pseudonym for Fitzgerald. Here's the Paris 10/29 meeting. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=47980#relPageId=2 Here's a report of the 11/22 meeting. Ontrich aka Nicolas Sanson is Nestor Sanchez, AMLASH-1's Case Officer. S/W is secret writing. Fitzgerald was not present. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=186955 https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=44472#relPageId=2 Cubela "can't understand why he was not given small pieces of equipment (poison pen) which promised a final solution to the problem..." Item 6. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=19462#relPageId=4 This timeline shows that Fitzgerald DID meet with Cubela on 11/22. I believe it was wrong. Sanchez gave him the pen. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=148895#relPageId=33 Lots of discussion about the pen. AMLASH Case Officer was Nestor Sanchez. This was his testimony before the Senate Select Committee in 1975. https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.html?docId=33937#relPageId=101
