The inevitable end result of our last 56 years

The Repubs will use this violent assault incident to proclaim their usual Dem attack rhetoric...

What do you expect in a Democratic party controlled American big city?

Out of control violent crime. Disrespecting the police, etc.

San Francisco is an interesting city in that you have super wealthy residency enclaves just blocks from drug addicted desperate homeless areas. It's a singularly unique geographic reality there.

Yes, car break-ins and other violent crimes have been on the rise in downtown SF for many years. As have their homeless problems.

In L.A. you have much more wide middle class areas blocking off their wealthy enclaves from the drug addict homeless and gang controlled areas. Beverly Hills, Western L.A., Malibu, Thousand Oaks, etc.

Even so...I think the divide between the rich and poor in many urban areas now is so pronounced, so stark, so visible ... that it is just a matter of time before the super wealthy are going to have to wall off their homelands much more securely than they already have as millions more Americans descend into the most desperate lowest income living conditions.

I think the most poor seeing the most wealthy living so close by eventually harbors entitlement resentment. Especially when there are children involved.

Wealthy cities in California have for years been steadily initiating protective measures and mechanisms to deal with the ever growing lowest poverty class threat of intruding into their living spaces.

So many cities have created public nuisance laws which gives them authority to move and even arrest homeless types from hanging around in their towns. This includes these homeless types parking their cars and sleeping in them overnight, even on public streets.

They are physically confronted and moved away.

Many wealthier towns in California have now installed cameras on the streets leading into and out of their cities. These 24/7 operating cameras can read license plate numbers. Suspicious cars are tracked in their time and movements in these cities.

Carmel has this. Tiburon as well. Many others now I'm sure.

Super rich enclave Pebble Beach has so many cameras like this all over their properties it's like a continuous movie studio production.

Pebble Beach even has their own private police force!  They mean business in the area of keeping out the lower class riffraff.

If the Beverly Hillbillies Clampett family drove their rickety, everything they owned adorned clap trap truck into the wealthy tony towns of California they would be immediately confronted and run out on a rail now.

John Steinbeck wrote in his "Travels With Charlie" novel something about him being arrested and run out of town like that just parking and living out of his little camper truck on his return to a Carmel, CA. Part of the wealthy conversion mind set of Carmel versus the laid back bohemian one that he knew back in the 1930's.

America is more wealthy class versus poorer class conscious and divided in this way than ever before.

The "in-between" America has been steadily eroding and devolving into the lower income stressed class with basic need costs far, far and ever more exceeding incomes. Rent, food, transportation, insurance, utilities, education...you name it. To a majorly stressed degree.

Just my two cents worth.

The inevitable result of the Democrats swinging more towards neoliberalism than the kind of social democracy represented by Bernie Sanders.

Everyone - even the rich - loses out in the long run.

No doubt.  The plutocrats control the U.S. government.  And the problem has been worsened by the Citizens United SCOTUS ruling that has opened the floodgates for "dark money" funding of elections.

The progressive social democracies of Western Europe have been able to maintain a more functional balance of power between corporate capitalists and the labor movement.

In the U.S., the labor movement has been gradually destroyed, and the masses have been indoctrinated by years of capitalist propaganda to anathematize social democracy as "socialism."

Nancy Pelosi husband attack: Who is David DePape, suspected Paul Pelosi assailant?

David DePape was accused by San Francisco police of attempted homicide in the Paul Pelosi home invasion attack Friday

DePape has been described on Twitter alternately as a far-right extremist and a nudist who sold handmade jewelry. He also had ties to a Berkeley nudist activist named Gypsy Taub, according to California State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco."She was the ringleader and she was extremely aggressive and creepy," Wiener told Fox News Digital Friday. "And I think he was one of the people in her work."They weren't "regular" nudity activists either, he said. They were aggressive, and she embraced 9/11 denials and has a criminal past.According to an Alameda County District Attorney’s Office press release from last summer, a woman named Oxane Taub who shared the address was convicted of more than 20 charges after stalking a 14-year-old boy she had become "fixated on" and attempted to kidnap.

Great quote from Jefferson Morley:

Excuse me for spurning the social media binary—the made-in-Silicon Valley credo that insists intellectual life can be boiled down to "thumbs up/thumbs down.” That strikes me a formula for stupidity.

When did stances become so ossified and polemic that we have to rely on the 'Phants to tell the truth of the origins of C19?

The Donks decided that Trump said C19 came from China and Trump was a racist (and besides Wall Street, Hollywood and Silicon Valley love China) so...C19 is natural!

Sad aside:

Last night, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky tested positive for COVID-19. She is up to date with her vaccines. Dr. Walensky is experiencing mild symptoms. Consistent with CDC guidelines, she is isolating at home and will participate in her planned meetings virtually.

She had five shots.

The latest shot is reputed to be ineffective. Of course, this too is hyper-politicized. You might get banned from the internet if you  suggest the pharmaceutical giants have gained control of US vaccination efforts....

This is an article about recent Xi's consolidation of power, and successive videos showing what is thought to be  the ouster of a one time kingmaker at the once in 5 year Communist Party Elite meeting.

What Happened to Hu Jintao?

The former Chinese leader was abruptly escorted out of a highly choreographed meeting of the Communist Party elite. Here’s what the videos show.

Russia accuses British Navy of blowing up Nord Stream pipelines in Baltic Sea

Ministry of Defence responds by accusing Moscow of "resorting to peddling false claims on an epic scale"

Russia has accused British Navy personnel of being involved in a “terrorist attack” on the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

The major Baltic Sea supply route from Russia to Europe was severely damaged in “powerful explosions” last month, in what is being investigated as an act of sabotage by Germany, Sweden and Denmark. Moscow has repeatedly claimed that allegations it was behind the blasts on 26 September are “stupid” and has sought to blame the West.

Now Vladimir Putin’s regime has directly accused the UK – a Natomember – of being involved in an attack upon critical Russian infrastructure.

“According to available information, representatives of this unit of the British Navy took part in the planning, provision and implementation of a terrorist attack in the Baltic Sea on September 26 this year – blowing up the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines,” Russia’s defence ministry said.

The ministry did not provide evidence for its claims, also alleging that the same British military specialists – supposedly located in the city of Ochakiv, in Ukraine’s Mykholaiv region – helped Kyiv’s forces plan a drone attack on Russia’s Black Sea fleet on Saturday morning.

Moscow said it had destroyed all of the drones involved in the alleged attack in Crimea’s Sevastopol bay, and that its sea minesweeper Ivan Golubets had received minor damage.

Britain’s Ministry of Defence responded by accusing its counterpart in Moscow of “resorting to peddling false claims of an epic scale” in order to “detract from their disastrous handling of the illegal invasion of Ukraine”.

“This latest invented story, says more about the arguments going on inside the Russian government than it does about the West,” a spokesperson said.

Chris Parry, Britain’s Rear-Admiral, told Sky News that Moscow’s claim was “a straight lie”, adding: “You always have to be suspicious of what the Russian defence ministry says.

“It’s hardly the ministry of truth, and Russian propaganda right now always accuses everybody else of doing what they in fact have done. There’s no capability for the Royal Navy or anybody in the UK offshore industry to be able to blow up those pipelines. It’s a straight lie and we all know the Russians did it.”

Russian state TV hosts have previously baselessly accused both British military divers and the United States of being behind the pipeline explosions, while Russian officials have claimed that Washington had a motive of wanting to sell more gas to Europe. The US has denied involvement.

The damage to the pipelines came just weeks after Russia’s state-owned supplier Gazprom announced it was closing the 745-mile Nord Stream 1 line “indefinitely”, blaming technical problems and supply issues caused by Western sanctions.

The second Nord Stream pipeline had only recently been completed and had not yet become operational, but plans to start the flow of Russian gas were shelved by Germany just prior to Mr Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in February.

It is now unclear whether the pipelines will again be used to transport gas from Russia to Europe, with Germany, Denmark and Sweden all launching separate investigations into the explosions.

Save for a letter to the UN sent three days after the attack by Danish and Swedish investigators concluding that “several hundred kilograms” of explosives had caused the blasts, all three nations are yet to release further information.

“There is a lot of secrecy still going on,” Jens Wenzel Kristoffersen, a commander in the Danish Navy and a military analyst at the University of Copenhagen told the New York Times. “The reason is simply because they have to be absolutely sure.

“When they have results, they have to be based on quite hard-core facts and not just speculation.”
