Gary Mack and the Sixth Floor Museum

Recommended Posts

Yes, the webcam. And what does it show? A Live Oak tree that has been allowed to overgrow and eliminate the possibility of anyone gaining an accurate view of the conditions in 1963.... Gary Mack has said: "Even the city, which is responsible for upkeep of Dealey Plaza, rarely makes a move without checking with the Museum first. Yes, it is a shame that such an effort to keep the foliage trimmed needed to be initiated long ago. Obviously, no trimming is going to be done to replicate the lighting existent at the west end of the colonade back in '63. If it can be done safely, then it probably will be done. The restoration of the Plaza is a long-term project that is only partly funded."
Tim, have you ever wondered why it is that crime scenes are supposed to be well documented as they were found? It's because circumstances beyond control can cause them to change over time, thus a record of the original event is most always all we have to go on. Now what you have not said about the trees in the plaza is that they have been trimmed back several times in the past. The people who oversee their care have specialist come in and trim them as far back as possible without damaging the tree itself.

Either Bill is falling down on his reading comprehension or is creating a straw man issue in order to divert the issue with a personal attack. His own remarks would be better addressed to his alter ego, Gary Dunkel/Mack. As was quoted above, Mack acknowledged that "it is a shame that such an effort to keep the foliage trimmed needed to be initiated long ago. Obviously, no trimming is going to be done to replicate the lighting existent at the west end of the colonade back in '63." In other words, in landscaping terms, it is too late. So there is an asserted effort to maintain the Plaza, as best as possible, in its 1963 condition. The two trees in which this effort has been ignored in the extreme are two particular Live Oaks, the one shading the "west end of the colonade" (grassy knoll) and the one blocking the supposed sniper's nest view.

Gary Mack has emailed me several times in the past, in response to various comments I'd made on another JFK forum. Since our last email exchange, he has apparently given up trying to assuage me with his sugar-coated endorsements of the official story. Imho, Gary's present view of this case is similar to Blakey's; while accepting all the totally impossible stuff (single bullet theory, wandering back wound, head snap not reacting in equal and opposite fashion, as dicated by the laws of physics, etc.), he still clings to the "Badgeman" identification and the acoustics evidence. Again, imho, I feel that these are two of the weaker arguments for conspiracy. Gary used to write lots of interesting articles for "The Continuing Inquiry," back in the late 70s-mid 80s, the feisty little newsletter produced by Penn Jones. He clearly knows that much of what he's saying is nonsense. He's well-versed in the evidence, and how he says some of the stuff he does now with a straight face is beyond me. I've asked him more than once to explain to me how his views on the JFK assassination had changed so dramatically since those days. He always dances around this issue (as does every other ex-conspiracy believer who has been mysteriously converted to lone nutism, like Todd Vaughn, Dave Reitzes, and many more), and the only specific thing he ever cites is the Roscoe White story. While he claims to still be a CTer, everything he utters publicly (especially on television specials, where he has become a real fixture) supports the official fairy tale. I will say that he is always civil in his email exchanges, but I'd caution anyone to weigh and consider everything he says carefully.

Nothing in the way of evidence was found so we retraced our search back down, floor by floor. Shortly after we arrived back on the 6th floor, Deputy Eugene Boone located the assassin's rifle almost completely hidden by some overhanging boxes near the stairwell. I filmed it as it was found. In my shot, the figure of Captain Fritz is standing within the enclosure next to the rifle. He knew then that the possibility of a fire fight with the sniper had greatly diminished. He dispatched one of his men to go down and call for the crime lab. About fifteen minutes later, Lt. Day and Studebaker arrived. Still pictures were taken of the positioning of the rifle, then Lt. Day slid it out from its hiding place and held it up for all of us to see. The world has seen my shot of this many times. Lt. Day immediately turned toward the window behind him and started dusting the weapon for fingerprints. Day was still within the enclosure formed by the surrounding boxes. I filmed him lifting prints from the rifle. He lifted them off with scotch tape and placed them on little white cards. When he had finished, he handed the rifle to Captain Fritz. Fritz pulled the bolt back and a live round ejected and landed on the boxes below. Fritz put the cartridge in his pocket. I did not see Fritz pick up anything other than the live round. . . .

why don't you start another thread with this -- perhaps a WCR supporter can tell us where these little white cards are presently located and who the prints belonged to....

It is so sad what has happened to the Sixth Floor Museum. They just don't seem to care about history up there. The official policy seems to be covering up for the murderers of John Kennedy. There really needs to be a management change at the Sixth Floor Museum. For one, that Nicola Langford lady needs to get the boot.

I think Gary Mack - who never posts here - is solely a member of Education Forum just so we can't say nasty things about him. Having said that, I will say I am completely underwhelmed at term as curator of the Sixth Floor Museum. Now how ridiculous that?: being a member of a JFK assassination discussion board and NEVER posting. It's like wearing your helmet and jumpsuit while sitting in a fancy racing car in the pit stop area of the Indianopolis 500, while watching the rest of the cars race around the track.

The executive management team at the Sixth Floor Museum seems consumed in every thing they do with presenting a "politically correct" version of history and not offending any of the interests and familys in Dallas - such as the Hunt family, the Bushes, the Johnson family - that might be embarrassed about a discussion of the ugly realities of the JFK assassination.

Having said that, I always encourage JFK researchers to take the tour of the Sixth Floor Museum; I go there about once/year, whenever I am in Dallas for a JFK conference. I do think you can learn from the 1950's Soviet style propaganda that is produced there.

Basically, it is all about glorifying the Kennedys then pinning the assassination on what's his name. The Warren Commission farce is presented uncritically as is the HSCA. You can look out the window over Houston and street and wonder why a "lone nut" would not shoot that easy mark. Then look down and see a live oak tree obscuring one from shooting JFK in the early shots. All the while listening in the background to a tape playing over and over on a loop "Three shots were fired in Dallas" - no matter that the best JFK historians have proven many more shots were fired - six being a conservative number.

From there it is on to the FBI mock-up of Dealey Plaza - quite interesting, actually - except for the ridiculous lines of string representing 3 shots to the back of JFK and NONE from the front. Yep - discredited governmentment lies with absolutely no context explaining the nonsense except the tourists laughing at exhibit. The same ones, a la Bill Hicks, that peer out the 6th floor windows and exclaim no way was Oswald making that shot. Oswald could have done it, but what are the odds that he really did? One in ten thousand?

Then it is on to the little bitty section on conspiracy theories were one of the theories considered is "space aliens" killing JFK. Ha ha ha - folks you have GOT to see this for yourself! I *promise* you the entertainment presented in the Sixth Floor Museum is worth the $13.50. The CIA is not mentioned as a culprit, but "Investigative Agencies" are mentioned as one possible perp. Very significantly, the disinformation artists at the Sixth Floor Museum don't mention the role of Lyndon Johnson who I think was the key player in the murder of John Kennedy.

I guess kicking American hero Robert Groden off the Grassy Knoll is a higher priority for the executives at the Sixth Floor Museum than updating their museum presentation.

When I was there in fall, 2011, the books I saw prominently featured in the gift shop of the Sixth Floor Museum were (rough estimates here)

1) 4 Four Days by Bugliosi (apparently the doorstop version was too insufferable)

2) 8 copies of the Warren Commission Report

3) 7 copies of Case Closed by Posner

4) 10 copies of JFK assassination logic by John McAdams

5) 13 Copies of Mrs. Paine's Garage

6) 7 copies of stephen King's 11/22/63

They did not look like they were selling like hotcakes. All cringe worthy "lone nutter" fiascos. And certainly not "historical" ... more aptly described as *hysterical* fare.

I just don't know if they still sell the doorstop of Bugliosis' Reclaiming History.

I did not see the Sixth Floor bookshop presenting ANY of these 60 fine books relating to the JFK assassination.

Surprised you're interested in this thread, Mr. Morrow, since it doesn't have anything to do with extramarital sex.

I'm still trying to figure out Gary Mack. He's a member of the forum, but won't post anything publicly. When I was seeking information about Dallas police radio transmission tapes--from which the transcriptions come, made by the FBI from the original Dictabelt recordings--he was very quick to help send me in what seemed to be the right direction. [Never did locate them, or copies of them.]

But don't EVER question his use of "sock puppets" to post FOR him on the forum threads, I've learned. He is indeed the "Mack-daddy" of the indignant private message if you should ever question why "the Great and Powerful Oz" stays behind the curtain. Kinda like the folks who won't send a letter-to-the-editor in our weekly county newspaper, but who will call the "Live Wire" phone number and anonymously rant about something, as I see it. This way, I guess he can say whatever he wishes to whomever he wishes, but he's not accountable because he never "publicly" said it "on the record." In government, I think they call that "plausible deniability."

So that's the way I see Mr. Gary Mack. I don't dislike him because I don't know him. I appreciate the times he's tried to help me. But I suppose I'll never understand his use of "sock-puppet" diplomacy...for lack of a better term.

Just a quick Chime in...

Gary emails me anytime I post something he feels is not a true representation of historical FACT as presented by the FBI and WCR...

He, nor anyone else for that matter, has provided anything close to an answer for these questions:

If Kleins shipped Hidell C2766 for his order...

1) show us any other order where THAT type rifle was substituted for THAT order

2) show us any order for any of the other 99 rifles on the C2766 packing slips that were sent in place of C20-T750

3) Show us an order that was actually fulfilled by a M91/38 FC 40" rifle - what was ordered?

4) Show us an order that was for C20-T750 and the rifles Kleins used to fulfill those order starting in June 1962... since in January 1962 they cancelled all their M91TS riles from Crescent that WOULD have been used to fulfill those orders...

and this is only one of the many areas in which Gary tows the company line....

Doesn't he suppose that the FBI would have shown us an order for a C20-T750 that WAS shipped a M91/38FC instead... just to show it was being done?

as well as to show these other orders to prove their case for Oswald being Hidell who in turn ordered one thing and rec'd another?

Mark,

I understand Gary's position with the Sixth Floor Museum forbids him from directly posting on sites such as this. You are right he is a member of the site, but I believe you will not seem directly posting.

He will privately reply to individuals who have posted making comments to them. As you say he is helpful when asked about aspects of the case. But that appears to be the limits of his public contributions on these kinds of sites.

James.
