  1. Although the following document in question appears to be a lead that didn't pan out, nonetheless it is an allegation that Lee Harvey Oswald was in Wytheville, Virginia nine days before the assassination of President Kennedy, the account involves a Mr. Curtis Puckett, who is the owner of a Greyhound Cafeteria and operator of the local Greyhound Bus terminal, as well as the local representative of the Salvation Army, and Bob Puckett, his brother. Mrs. Frank Nelms, also of the Salvation Army had stated on a radio program, [hosted by Ed Zuber of WYVE] that she had possibly seen Lee Oswald approximately two weeks ago, this was on November 25, 1963. http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=95643&relPageId=257 The person in question allegedly turned out to be "Henry Richards," [all italics mine] who was given lunch, and busfare to Princeton, West Virginia, ostensibly his hometown. These Warren Commission stories, [this is also in CD 7 Gemberling Report pp 427-430] are always problematic, because you have no idea if these accounts are true, hokkum or a combination of the two, and while Mrs. Nelms is characterized as having poor eyesight, it is also compelling that, according to Mr. Bob Puckett that ,......Curtis did recall that three or four months previously with another "assistance call," Mrs. Nelms had sent a young couple down to the bus terminal, the man being dressed in some type of military uniform with stripes on the sleeve. He stated that Curtis recalled that this man purchased coffee and doughnuts for the woman, apparently his wife who was "unable to speak English," and that this person had a "small baby as well as a youngster about three years old." He recalled also that this man left the bus terminal returned a short time later, and when Curtis Puckett approached him and wanted to know if he could be of assistance, this young military person said no, his "problem had been solved." Regarding the date of this incident Puckett states it was three or four months ago, while Mrs. Nelms insists, it was on November 13, 1963, the ticket was located for Richards, and it was dated November 13, 1963. Hence, since Oswald, according to the FBI, in Dallas on November 13, 1963, this allegation was pretty much summarily dismissed. In the account in CD 7 "the man" is quoted as saying "he could get to Dallas once he got to Princeton." The reason, at least in my mind, this could be more than "just another alleged Oswald sighting," was that Wytheville, Virginia was where John B Hurt resided growing up, his uncle Shaffer the Congressman was from there and cryptologist Frank Rowlett had lived a few counties away to the west. See The American Codebreakers - Thomas Parrish pages 39-40 The missionary family that lived next door to John Hurt was surnamed Patton..... I am truly confident this John B Hurt/Oswald angle will eventually be squared away, just hope it is sooner, rather than later.
  2. Although it is not by no means the final word on the elusive John B. Hurt connection to Lee Harvey Oswald, there is something rather unique as far as the Bundy family; McGeorge, William, parents Harvey and Kay and John B Hurt, codebreaker extraordinaire. In Kai Bird's definitive book on the Bundy family, The Color of Truth one will find the following passage.....page 72 Intercept intelligence, also known as signal intelligence, shortly became a Bundy family vocation. While Harvey sat in the War Department reading the highly classified final product, his wife and sons became involved in the arcane business of cryptology. toiling away at deciphering the radio codes of various foreign powers. Oddly enough, the first Bundy to become a cryptologist was Kay. In 1941 at the age of fifty-one, with all five children on their own, Kay thought she ought to get a job. By happenstance, an old friend and neighbor Lydia Chapin Kirk, wife of Admiral Alan Kirk had also moved to Washington and was organizing a group of wives to volunteer their time for the navy. Years earlier Kay had chaperoned Lydia's dates with Kirk. At Lydia's urging, Kay agreed to take a course with the U.S. Navy on open codes, meaning she was taught to discern whether there was a hidden message in plain-text letters or telegrams sent abroad. "I smoked like a chimney," Kay recalled, "and I got absolutely absorbed in codebreaking." Kay worked initially for Naval intelligence out of Arlington Hall, and later switched to code-breaking for the army." In Samuel Snyder's A Translator Extraordinaire, see translator.pdf, his detailed summary of John B Hurt's World War II experience as the ultimate Japanese cryptanalyst, he mentions that John Hurt was also stationed at Arlington Hall during World War II. see excerpt John was one among that rare breed of translator able to convey in English the style and flavor of the original. At times his transcriber would be treated to John's falsetto sing-song, and even occasionally poetic English to faithfully emulate the personal style of the diplomatic sender. This also applied when John made translations from Japanese or French books or documents. There was the time in 1944 when Sam Hall was patrolling an area in "B" building at Arlington Hall Station for security check. It was about 11 o'clock at night and Sam heard a loud voice coming from behind a partition, as of someone making a speech. The door was closed so Sam stood on a chair and peeked over the top of the partition. There was John Hurt, alone, pacing up and down with a book in his hand, and in the style of an orator, delivering aloud his English translation, with hardly a pause. Although John J McCloy's connections to MAGIC have been focused on, as they should be, Kay Bundy being stationed at Arlington Hall and not knowing of John B. Hurt, would not be unlike residing at Hogwarts and not knowing who was Harry Potter. And if Abraham Bolden was correct in asserting that there was a clamor on the weekend of JFK's assassination about John Hurt, it is definitely worth knowing about the Arlington Hall connection. If there are any like minded individuals regarding the Bundy's and cryptologic connections the following might be if interest Cryptologia April 1987 Some of My Wartime Experiences -W.P. Bundy OVERVIEW ADDRESS: 1087 Great Road, Princeton NJ 08540 USA. ABSTRACT: The head of the American contingent at Britain's Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS) at Bletchley during World War II tells how he got into cryptology and about his social and administrative experiences as commanding officer of the 6813 th Detachment. KEYWORDS: Bundy, Bletchley, Government Code and Cypher School, GC&CS, 6813 th Detachment. [This is the edited transcript of a speech give by William P. Bundy at the dinner of the annual convention of the American Cryptogram Association in Union, New Jersey, on August 21, 1982. None of his biographies as in Who's Who in America specify what he was doing in the army. His talk cleared up the mystery.] There really isn't that much mystery about what I was doing during the war. That is what I am going to talk about, if you can take it at this hour. Namely a reminiscence on being the nominal, and I do mean very much the nominal, commander of the American Signal Corps Detachment, the cryptanalytical detachment that worked with the British at Bletchley on the Enigma and some other systems but mostly the Enigma problem. We had what I would still regard as a unique experiment in international living. An experiment in thinking together, as well as a dramatic exposure to the greatest overall achievement in terms of practical effects, certainly in cryptanalytic history. I would think that a safe statement.........
  3. Well, the newest outrage would have to be the statement issued that journalist Bernard Hoare's sudden death is not considered suspicious. I suppose in an "Idiocracy" it wouldn't be, but what about among rational thinking persons? http://www.politics.co.uk/news/2011/07/18/ex-news-of-the-world-journalist-found-dead As for Ron Ecker's comments, I couldn't agree more, without Rubert Murdoch's Fox News right wing mudslinging, with gained ascendancy in the mid/late 1990's, the Republican noise machine here in the good old USA, would probably not even generate attention, as opposed to the current situation where politicians that cannot even articulate American history without butchering it have a "captive audience." Beam Me Up Scotty, there's obviously no intelligent life here.
  4. Bill wrote .....Bradley Ayers, the US Army Ranger assigned to train some of the JM/WAVE Cubans for the missions that are discussed in this letter and the June plans that are referenced in the other report, vividly recounts in his book The Zenith Secret - how after the assassination, a new officer from Texas arrived at JM/WAVE and began to disassemble the whole operation so there was nothing left of it except the building...... Getting back to the Texan, if your like me you might have thought of David Atlee Phillipps... I checked a lot of documents and didn't see any mention of Phillipps going to JMWAVE in the time frame specified.....But until I see his Office of Security File, I couldn't dismiss the idea, and if it has the significance some might attach to it, they might have been too smart to put that in a file to begin with.....Shackley was instructed to put exile operations [against Cuba] 'on hold' immediately after the assassination but it wasn't until later that they were officially ended; Regarding that date, it would appear strongly to have been April 1964, although the exiles themselves had their own operations that didn't just stop because LBJ shut down CIA's efforts to topple Castro. In The Nightwatch.....Phillipp's kind of glosses over this time frame albeit mentioning gathering together in Win Scott's office at the Mexico City Station, listening to reports on the Kennedy Assassination [see Nightwatch page 140] and then onto being promoted to GS-15 in February 1965 [see Nightwatch page 143] and being appointed Chief of Station at Santa Domingo, going to the Dominican Republic in 1965 after the coup, [see Nightwatch page 149] by then Admiral Raborn was DCI. Blond Ghost: Ted Shackley and the CIA's Crusades, covers the pertinent time period in more detail see pages 104-117
  5. I am very glad that Tom joined the Forum, just to cite one example both Tom and Linda Minor have contributed greatly in regards to genealogical info that has more than elucidated certain areas, so with that in mind I wanted to share some information that seems fairly straightforward....... Seems like, genealogy speaking, it is worth knowing....hope I didn't detract from the thread. in 1960's right-winger Dan Smoot's The Invisible Government - 1962 - The Americanist Library pages 60-70 he writes "In September 1960 Harpers Magazine, published an article by Hobart Rowan, entitled "America's Most Powerful Private Club" Smoot cites The Business Advisory Council, which apparently, is referenced in Rowan's Harpers piece, as evidence of, in Smoot's opinion of some 1960's version of a Rush Limbaugh-like "left wing socialist's taking over America." Personally, my only interest was an accurate account of who was the CEO or, the Director of Lykes Steamship Co., circa 1961-63., at any rate there is an entry for Solon B Turman in Smoot's accompanying account where he continues...."I have obtained the names of 120 'active' and 'graduate' members of the BAC listed below" (Business Advisory Council) Robert: One of those 120 entries was for: Solon B Turman (President and Director of Lykes Brothers Steamship Co., Inc., Vice Chairman of Lykes Brothers Inc., President of Gulf and South American Steamship Co.; end So starting there, I decided to follow up and see what I could find, as I was familiar with Howell T. and James McKay Lykes see http://www.tshaonlin.../articles/etlzz But I had not ever heard of the name Turman associated with the Lykes Steamship Co. So, I decided to do some digging. Below is what I discovered. Solon B Turman August 28, 1861-December 19, 1911 Note His wife Sophie P Wilson Turner,is interred in Oakland Cemetery, Tampa Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery Tampa Hillsborough County Florida, USA http://www.findagrav...1138274&df=all Solon Brinton Turman, born 28 August 1861, son of Simon Turman and Meroba Hooker. He married first 1897 Flordia to Sophia P Wilson then Matilda Lykes daughter of Dr.Howell Lykes. Solon Brinton Jr. born 1900 Tampa, Flordia was a Steamboat Company Executive. Simon Turman jr. was born 1829 Vermillion co. Indiana died 22 May 1864 Georgia.(died of wounds received in the Civil War) was buried in the Oakland Cemetery Hillsborough County, Flordia. he was a newspaper Publisher in Covington,Indiana. Simon Jr. married 20 Sept. 1860 to Meroba Hooker who died 19 April 1898 Tampa, Flordia. the daughter of William Brinton Hooker and Mary Amanda Hare. Their only child was Solon Brinton. Simon Turman Jr was the son of Judge Simon Turman and Abijah Cushman. Judge Simon Turman was born 23 Feb.1799 Champaign County, Ohio died 31 Oct. 1859 of yellow fever in Tampa, Fla. buried in theOak Lawn Cemetery, Tampa. Abijah Cushman was born 23 April 1799 Onondage County, New York died 3 Jan. 1864 Tampa, Fla. the daughter of Seth Cushman Jr and Nancy Rundel(1776-1842) Judge Simon Turman was the son of Benjamine Turman Sr. and Sarah Harbour of Virginia. Benjamine Sr. is as far back as anyone has found on the family, unless they tie in with Ignatius Tureman who was in King and Queens Co. Va. as early as 1704. Hope this has helped you a little. Gladys Turman, Mannford, Oklahoma http://genforum.gene...urman::216.html and http://genforum.gene...ssages/108.html http://www.timetable...mages/lykes.htm It may also be worth noting, from a genealogy standpoint that Jack Ruby was fairly well acquainted, with Reagan "Buddy" Turman, a boxer. http://www.maryferre...6&relPageId=142 But the most informative information re Solon Turman is his obituary Tampa Tribune, The (FL) - October 12, 1990 Ex- Lykes Bros. executive Solon Turman , 90, dies NEW ORLEANS -- Solon Brinton Turman, a native of Tampa and former chairman of Lykes Brothers Steamship Co., died Tuesday at the age of 90 in New Orleans after a long illness. Private memorial services were conducted Thursday at the House of Bultman in New Orleans. The son of Solon B. Turman and the former Tillie Lykes , Turman was a nephew of the seven Lykes brothers who founded the massive shipping, cattle, citrus and insurance empire bearing their name. In 1985, Turman gave $2 million to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa for an outpatient services and education center that was named in his honor. It unites outpatient health programs and community professional health education services in one complex. He also was a longtime benefactor of Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. He and his late wife established a $3 million endowment there to aid selected patients unable to pay for major unexpected medical expenses. The hospital also named the Dolly and Solon B. Turman Ambulatory Treatment Center in their honor. Turman retired in 1972 as chairman of the executive committee of Lykes -Youngstown Corp. He had begun his apprenticeship in 1919 as a cattle tender aboard one of the Lykes ships running between Tampa and Cuba. In the intervening years, Turman served in a number of managerial posts, culminating in his election as executive vice president of Lykes Brothers Steamship Co. in 1943, president in 1951 and chairman and chief executive officer in 1962. Turman attended schools in Tampa, then Virginia Military Institute. He went to New Orleans in 1921, and later served as special European representative for the Lykes shipping firm in the mid-1920s, living in Belgium, Holland, Germany and England. In 1925, he was named a Lykes director. In 1949, he received the French Medal of Commercial Merit, and in 1957 he was named Louisiana's first "Maritime Man of the Year" by the Propeller Club of New Orleans. In 1961, President John Kennedy presented the American Legion's Merchant Marine Achievement award to Turman in a White House ceremony. He was named "Man of the South" by Dixie Business magazine in 1968. Turman was a former director of the Illinois Central Railroad and the Hibernia National Bank in New Orleans. He was former chairman of the executive committee of the Committee of American Steamship Lines. A frequent visitor to Tampa until recent years, Turman at one time held the title vice chairman of the board of Lykes Brothers Inc., the family's overall holding firm for its varied financial interests. Turman is survived by one niece, Almeria H. Wright, and one grandnephew, J. Parke Wright IV of Tampa. Tampa Tribune, The (FL) Anyway, I thought it was worth a mention.
  6. As someone who has read JFK and The Unspeakable and Harvey and Lee, as I was perusing some rather obscure portions of the Warren Commission documents, I was more than slightly surprised to discover that Mr. January knew, or at the least was acquainted with the Carousel Club and Jack Ruby. It is not my intention to cast aspersions on the work of author's John Armstrong or James Douglass, but I do believe this aspect of documents regarding Wayne January and the Redbird Airport goings on, is something people should be aware of, after all, the devil is in the details. Commission Document 106 - FBI Clements Report of 31 Dec 1963 re: Ruby page 47 The following interview was conducted by SA's KENNETH B. JACKSON and JOHN V. ALMON on November 29, 1963. AT DALLAS, TEXAS. WAYNE JANUARY, owner, American Aviation Company, Room 101, Terminal Building, Redbird Airport, advised that from February through April 1963, he, together with several friends, on occasion frequented the Carousel Club, Dallas, Texas which he understands is owned by one Jack Ruby. JANUARY stated that during February 1963, he received an anonymous telephone call from a man who offered him the sum of $50, 000.00 to fly to Laredo, Texas and back with no questions asked. JANUARY said he surmised that this individual planned to transport narcotics to Dallas and for this reason he declined the offer. JANUARY further stated that during March, 1963, he received a second anonymous telephone call from a man who wanted him to fly $12,000.000.00 worth of gold dust to Mexico City where he was to pick up the currency and return with it back to Dallas. He stated that this individual offered him $400,000.00 to make this flight which he also declined. JANUARY stated during the latter part of July, 1963, a man and a woman whom he had never seen before contacted him at his office at which time they inquired about chartering a plane for a trip to "Old Mexico." JANUARY stated that when he asked this man questions essential to such a flight he was definitely evasive in his answers. JANUARY explained that this individual did not appear to know exactly where he desired to go in Mexico but said something about the West Coast. Furthermore, he did not appear to know when he desired to return or exactly how many passengers could be expected on the flight. JANUARY said that this man, after stating that he did not wish to make the flight for a couple of months, stated that he would consider the information which JANUARY had given him and let him know at a later date. He said that when the couple left he observed a third man who had been waiting in their automobile during the entire conversation, and after observing a photograph of LEE HARVEY OSWALD on television it now seems to him that this man somewhat resembled OSWALD that they did not appear to him to be persons of sufficient financial means to charter a trip such as the one discussed. reiterated that the man was not OSWALD although he was not definitely sure in this respect. JANUARY was unable to offer any additional information which might be of assistance in identifying the man and woman who inquired about the flight to Mexico. He said JANUARY reiterated the fact that the man, accompanied by the unidentified woman, who made inquiries concerning a chartered flight to Mexico, was not LEE HARVEY OSWALD and said that he has no records, or any other method of identifying the persons who contacted him during the latter part of July, 1963. JANUARY further commented that he never visited the Carousel Club, when he did not observe several plainclothes officers, and when a friend of his attempted to date one of the performers KATHY KAY, she informed this friend that she had to go with another man, whom she identified as a plainclothes officer. JANUARY concluded with the opinion that JACK RUBY was not the type individual who would have killed, or attempted to kill, anyone charged with the assassination of the President. He said he does not think that RUBY would care that much, even about his own mother. http://www.maryferre...06&relPageId=68 And although I do not place much credibility in the foregoing allegation, I believe, "Leaks or revelations are often more compelling because of what they don't reveal." FBI 62-109060 JFK HQ File, Section 193 July 9, 1977 Fred Coleman, Fred Burns, Coweta, Oklahoma pilot alleges he flew Jack Ruby to Mexico before assassination El Paso. This memorandum reflects the result of an interview with Fred Coleman Route 2 Box 103A Coweta, Oklahoma on May 9 1977 The records of the Dallas Texas Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation do not reflect any identifiable information regarding Fred Coleman, Fred Burns or (First Name Unknown) Gonzales [ ] Coweta, Oklahoma, telephone [redacted] voluntarily contacted SA [redacted] at Kips Big Boy Restaurant, located at 37th Street and Memorial, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and provided the following information. [ ] advised that he lived in El Paso, Texas, from approximately 1956 until 1967 and had a partnership in a Chevrolet-Cadillac Agency in El Paso with an individual named [redacted] . He stated that Gonzales made arrangements for him [ ] to fly individuals across the border from El Paso close to Juarez, Mexico, where these individuals would meet with other persons and then he would fly them back to El Paso. [ ] made many such trips and one of these trips ended up in his plane being crashed in Mexico, somewhere close to Big Bend National Park he advised this incident was written up in the newspapers with the names of the other two individuals. He was not prosecuted for this incident. prosecute him for this minor offense. [ ] advised that he made one of his trips from El Paso to near Juarez, Mexico on the same night that FBI agents captured an airline hijacker at El Paso airport [ ] advised that he purchased a B51 airplane for Gonzales sometime in 1962 and flew this airplane off the coast of Florida on a small island for Gonzales. He was supposed to have taken plane to Yucatan, Mexico however he refused to do this and was told to go to the alternate site in Florida. He advised that Gonzales stated this plane was to be used for the efforts to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba and that he was offered a job as a pilot by Gonzales and he refused. [ ] advised that approximately one month before the assassination of President John F Kennedy he flew an individual on two occasions from El Paso to Mexico to meet with persons there. This individual he flew from El Paso to Mexico was named Jack (last name unknown). [ ] advised that he did not know at the time but after the assassination of John F. Kennedy when pictures were displayed in various newspapers he advised that this person he flew to Juarez, Mexico was Jack Ruby. He stated that on this second occasion that he flew Ruby to Mexico to meet with an individual he met with a person who looked very much like the photographs of Lee Harvey Oswald. [ ] stated this is the only times that he has met either of these individuals and although he made several flights of this nature after the assassination of Kennedy, he never saw these individuals again. He stated that one month after this assassination, two FBI agents located him in El Paso and asked him if he was involved in smuggling activities between the United States and Mexico via airplane at which point he lied to the FBI agents and told them that he had not been involved in any flights where no flight plan was filed. He advised he did this inasmuch as he felt that he would be prosecuted for illegal activities [ ] stated that the reason he was coming to the FBI with this information at the present time is that he felt that the statute of limitations on any of his illegal activities had passed and he would not embarrass himself or his family by coming forth with information now. Coleman Name [redacted] Sex Male Race White Date of Birth [redacted] Place of Birth Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma Height 5'101/2" Weight 160 Hair Grey Eyes Blue Social Security Number [redacted] Residence Coweta, Oklahoma http://www.maryferre...87&relPageId=69 I used to get really excited when I saw a document such as the one I have posted above, but that was before I started spending a great deal of time looking at documents referenced as indicative of a relationship between Oswald and Ruby. Although, I don't believe Ruby and Oswald didn't know each other, but absolute irrefutable proof of a relationship is, how do you say, elusive. Although it is just an opinion, to me, the strongest indication of a relationship, is the expression on Lee Oswald's face, moments before he was shot in the Dallas Municipal Building. If you decide to look [at documents] for yourself, a great deal of such documents are usually framed in the context of a "Communist Party" affiliation, or a "Castro did it" allegation. [see Peter Dale Scott Phase One and Phase Two Oswald Deceptions] What makes the above interesting to me is Mr. Coleman/Burns, description of the Hispanic individual seems strikingly reminiscent of someone who is in the New Orleans film footage taken from August 9, 1963 when Oswald was arrested in the [staged] fracas with Carlos Bringuer, where there are several "Latins" who are behind Oswald as he exits the inside of a building, and look rather uncomfortable in front of the camera. I am sorry I cannot be more specific. At any rate, the fact that he made this type of allegation, and his description of Mr. Gonzalez is not unimportant, even if it were not true, if that makes sense. What has become acutely critical is the need, inasmuch as is possible, to determine the center of the conspiracy, as opposed to the periphery. One last thing, a great deal of dead ends in the investigations such as in the era of the Inspector General's Report involved headline news stories, chiefly as a result of Jack Anderson's "investigative reporting" President Johnson Sitting on Political H-Bomb Was Robert Kennedy Responsible for his Brothers Murder? I might have called them "planted deceptions," even though whether Jack Anderson, knew he was being "played" is another story, nevertheless one of the most pertinent allegations was that the "assassins" of President Kennedy were originally anti-Castro operatives who had been captured in Cuba, in February or March 1963 in a DGI rollup, and consequently "turned" and placed in the US where the wicked deed was done. In all of my research, I have never seen any reference to, at least a CIA penetration operation that was "rolled up" in the time frame alleged, which leads me strongly to consider that the reason I have never seen "proof" of when this pivotal event took place, is that it never did take place.
  7. No, I am not saying that at all, the only reason I posted the Kertz/eviction story with the walking backwards episode, is because I referenced it without a link; that's all.
  8. This is what I was referencing see post 52 on the Lee Harvey Oswald thread. I have reposted it here An Unfounded Observation about Lee Oswald? I have read many allegations about Lee Harvey Oswald, many true and some utterly ridiculous. Regarding the latter, there is the example that he was a "card carrying member of the Communist Party." Even being a member of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, is not the same a being a member of the Communist Party. Which leads me to the following allegation made by Charlie Kertz. It is an extremely important allegation, for reasons that will become obvious after reading the following.....From Benson's Who's Who in the JFK Assassination. SOURCE: HSCA Report 65.6 KERTZ, CHARLIE, Oswald witness; founder of the New Orleans Charlie's Saints Marching Band. Kertz was the deputy constable who, in 1963, evicted Oswald from his apartment at 4907 Magazine Street. Kertz said to New Orleans Times-Picayune columnist Angus Lind in 1991. "It was a Friday afternoon, and it was very unusual to evict someone on a Friday afternoon." According to Lind, "Kertz said he confronted Oswald with the order to evict, showed him his credentials and told him to get his personal belongings out of the furnished apartment; otherwise they would be placed on the sidewalk, routine eviction procedure." "The guy was so weird," said Kertz. "He didn't say a word. There was a woman with him who had a child. He came down the steps, took a right, and headed toward Audubon Park." After that, Kertz never saw him again. According to Lind, "[Kertz] and another constable went in, put a baby bed and some clothes on the sidewalk, then opened a closet and found three rifles. They unloaded them and put them out on the sidewalk. They then removed about 30 paperbacks from the closet. . . .and underneath them were two handguns, which they unloaded and put under the mattress of the baby bed. Kertz said he figured Oswald was "some kind of hunter." Neighbors of Oswald's when he lived at the Magazine Street apartment in New Orleans remember him as an odd duck. There are reports Oswald was often seen walking backwards. Re the above there are 0 hits when searching Charlie Kertz, at NARA same goes for Angus Lind at NARA Re the above there are 80 hits when searching New Orleans Times Picayune at NARA see below http://www.nara.gov/...884/jfksnew.txt END Getting back to Nechiporenko, and the whole Oswald in Russia angle. One aspect of Nechiporenko's book which I do find very interesting is his account of LIOVAL-1 see page 272 including footnote Re Photograph of "Mystery Man" taken by LILINK/LIEMPTY surveillance cameras in Mexico City (Warren Commission Exhibit 237). The account of the person photographed by the Robotstar Pulse camera [is explained by him as follows, which I find worth noting: When I first saw the photograph which did not resemble Oswald in the slightest, it produced some vague associations, but nothing concrete. Later looking at three blowups of the individual dressed in similar and different clothing, something began to stir in my memory. The person in the photograph was a former American serviceman, discharged for reasons of health. I cannot remember the date and purpose of his first visit to our embassy, but in our conversations with him, it became clear that he was psychologically disturbed. Subsequently, he came to see us several times, and the intervals between each visit increased...... 9. Bingo! Nice to see Mr. Parker making sense for a change. Greg, I tend to agree, I suppose it should be considered logic to have the audacity to hope someone "in the know" ie Nechiporenko would actually have the desire to tell the truth about Oswald. I wanted to post this, if for no other reason, than to show something a lot of persons probably havent had an opportunity to see, unless one has Passport to Assassination, credibility of is another story but there are certain parts [especially his comments re the husky 35 year old man captured on camera in MC, the one that they showed Margeruite, that she said was Ruby], that haven't received much exposure, I may seem like a fool, but I find his tome more compelling than Mailer's, although it obviously has credibility issues. Although that is damning with faint praise. If the post was of interest to you, I am glad. PS Do you remember, the guy in New Orleans who said he saw Oswald walking backwards down the street, also said he found weapons in the....I guess Magazine Street address, after the Oswald's vacated it? It's on a thread here somewhere..... Kind of, more of the same........I suppose Cheers
  10. In case your wondering, Nalim,* according to two writers regarding Oswald's Russian period, was the KGB cryptonym or nickname for Lee Harvey Oswald. Ostensibly, it means eel-like, turbo or riverfish. * Oswald's Tale: An American Mystery - Norman Mailer see glossary of names page xviii Passport to Assassination - Oleg Nechiporenko page 54 Much ado was made when the former Soviet Union officially turned over their files on Lee Harvey Oswald during the aftermath of perestroika. Although much anticipated amongst JFK research circles, as well as historians, academics and the US government, there was a feeling amongst the more cynical of us, that there might have been somethings best left out, and was. With that in mind, I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the passage below from Passport to Assassination. To the best of my knowledge, Mailer does not cite it, I can find no US government documents, i.e. Oswald's 201 file or elsewhere, which make even a oblique reference to it. It may not actually even be in the KGB Files, but it is definitely in Colonel Nechiporenko's book..... Who is to say that it is definitively true or untrue, unless one was a KGB agent monitoring Oswald at the time, no-one can really say so either way, the point is, "if it is true, it would mean that it appears we might not know everything, there is to know about Lee Oswald's Russian sojourn." Passport to Assassination pg 62, by Nechiporenko, Oleg M. (1993) In judging the second round up to this point, Oswald scored by obtaining permission to leave the USSR. The KGB knew that the former Marine was not a spy and that he was of no use as a Soviet spy. The family received permission to leave on December 25. If this was their joyous Christmas present from the KGB, then Oswald came up with a New Years surprise in return. Days before the new year, operatives had uncovered that Nalim had a new pastime. He had decided to build bombs. This was not a hypothetical hobby since he had already built two iron casings one box-shaped and the other cylindrical. Each contained two compartments; one filled with shot and the other with explosives. He had also prepared paper-type fuses, 4-5 centimeters long and 2 millimeters in diameter. They were to be filled with gunpowder, with the fuse designed to last approximately two seconds. Nalim concealed his new toys from his wife and stored them at home. Nothing related to the construction of the bombs was done at the factory, where it would have undoubtedly attracted attention. As recently as November it had been decided at the highest levels that Oswald was not involved in espionage activities. Now this bizarre activity. The KGB did not know what to make of it. The possibility could not be excluded that Nalim would commit a last hostile act before his departure from the Soviet Union. Based on this development, surveillance levels against Nalim had to be increased especially before different celebrations, congresses and high-level political meetings. On January 3, 1962, Oswald was observed leaving his apartment with a wrapped parcel which he clutched tightly to his chest The parcel clearly contained his single-barrel rifle. To the consternation of his fellow passengers, he boarded a streetcar with the rifle in plain sight. He ended up pawning it at a sporting goods store for eighteen rubles. The rifle had originally been prominently displayed on a wall in his apartment, but lately it had been gathering dust in a closet. Oswald told his friends that he had tired of hunting and preferred fishing. Just as it appeared Nalim's behavior had become more quirky and unsettling, it was learned he could not obtain sufficient powerful explosives for his "home-made toys." He ultimately threw out the bomb housing, thereby bringing his "hobby to an unclimactic close. The KGB was greatly relieved, but it did not discount the possibility of another weird act before his departure.
  11. How Scalice saw what Bonebrake couldn't see is a question that needs to be answered. What enhancing methods were used by Scalice and Bonebrake? Is one method superior to the other? Did they both use the same process and reach ed a different conclusion? Scalice is also known for endorsing the kooky conspiracy theory that Vincent Foster's suicide note was forged. Foster worked in Bill Clinton's staff before committing suicide in 1993. Scalice and two other examiners were hired for their analysis by the Western Journalism Center, a group financed by the ultra-rightwing Clinton hater Richard Melon Scaiffe, and co-founded by Joseph Farah (founder of the right-wing WorldnetDaily website and still unconvinced that Obama's birth certificate is genuine). For Farah's views on birtherism see this: http://www.msnbc.msn...s-no-apologies/ Scalice's conclusion is seriously undermined by the fact that "three separate handwriting analyses were performed -- one by the Capitol Police and two by the FBI lab -- comparing the note to three different sets of samples of known handwriting of Vince Foster. Each of the three analyses concluded the handwriting was Foster's. link: http://www.gpoaccess...t/final/v3e.pdf In light of the above, I would like to ask Scalice-worshipping LN if they endorsed Scalice's conclusion on the suicide note and whether you think his handling of that case undermines his overall credibility. George Bonebrake examined prints allegedly belonging to James Earl Ray and submitted an affidavit to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia: http://register.shel...000647ag11.tif# From Time Magazine, July 5, 1968: An FBI fingerprint expert testified that there were at least eleven points of similarity between the prints belonging to. Ray's prints, said FBI Agent George Bonebrake, were on a rifle and telescopic sight abandoned in a store doorway near the shooting and also on binoculars wrapped with the weapon. http://www.time.com/...,941604,00.html Quote "Bonebrake" unquote, is also referenced in Orlando Bosch Avila's involvement with the British vessel the Lancastrian Prince, circa 1968....... http://www.maryferre...367&relPageId=7

  13. I read that too, that Cokie was asked about the suspicious death; and she said her father died in an accident and he never said anything about re-opening an investigation. I have to look up the weather conditions up there that day. Bodies were never found but what about plane parts? Kathy C My understanding is that the plane, nor any form of wreckage was ever found. Although I phrased the question rhetorically, my belief is that the reason the plane was never found was because if it had, it would have been found to have been sabotaged, not unlike the circumstances surrounding the crash United Airlines Flight 553 carrying Dorothy Hunt. Of course, officially there was no foul play discovered regarding Flight 553, it is also a fact that former President Nixon was proven to have orchestrated some intrigues regarding the NTSB investigation of that same flight, see Sherman Skolnick. http://www.spartacus...JFKskolnick.htm Skolnick also wrote a book entitled The Secret History of Airplane Sabotage. If the Boggs plane was found, especially being in Alaska, the icy environment could perhaps make it possible the cause of the crash might still be ascertained. also See http://www.hackcanad...cy/outline5.txt Also see John Simkin's post #16 on this thread.

(lol) --Thomas I found this very perturbing, and it is not the only source. http://www.check-six.com/lib/Famous_Missing/Boggs.htm Son of deceased Representative Nick Begich is interviewed http://www.freedomwriter.com/issue17/ak1.htm Begging the question, what was so threatening about finding the small Cessna 310, ostensibly carrying the bodies of Senator Hale Boggs, (D-LA) Representative Nick Begich (D-AK), pilot Don Jonz and Russell Brown, aide to Rep. Begich. The Air Force called off the search on November 25, 1972 after the aircraft was discovered missing after failing to land in Juneau, from Anchorage, Alaska, where Bogg's was to have aided Representative Begich in his re-election campaign, on approximately October 17, 1972 In April 1971 Boggs had publicly spoken out against then FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, calling on the then Director to resign, after the Director was discovered to have been "tapping the telephones of members of Congress," the passage of time proved Boggs was truthful about what were then allegations against Hoover. Gerald Ford, (R-MI) called on Boggs to prove the allegations Boggs made against Hoover were truthful. When Boggs spoke in Congress the third week of April, the article noted that Democrats "present in the House... applauded Boggs late-afternoon speech, none spoke in his behalf afterward." Hale's widow Lindy Boggs easily won the late Senator's seat in the Third District of Louisiana, after it was apparent that the Democrats would have to field a candidate, to replace him. It is a sad legacy, that it seems the last time the Boggs legacy was a public affair, was when Joan Mellen author of Jim Garrison - His Life and Times, A Farewell To Justice, reported that papers pertaining to the JFK Assassination were taken from the Boggs Papers Collection housed at Tulane University in 1995, after passage of the JFK Records Collection Act three years earlier, by persons alleging they were representatives of the U.S. government, acting at the behest of Hale Boggs widow, Ms. Lindy Boggs, who knew nothing of the event, until after it had already taken place. 4/6/1971 AP Boggs Calls For Hoover To Go 4/23/71 AP Boggs Again Calls For Hoover Ouster 10/17/72 AP Boggs Missing on Alaskan Flight 11/25/72 AP Air Force Suspends Search for Boggs, Party

  17. It is hard to tell [since I am not a mindreader] whether Mr. Agapito Del Rio was the real deal or just a purveyor of false information, but I am inclined towards the former. The individual referenced above was interviewed in CD 766, a six page document. http://www.maryferre....do?docId=11164 what appears to be a fairly detailed account of the Mexico City Mystery man's activities including his age, height, weight, what luggage he was carrying, and even a conversation with him,[allegedly said he was "going to California;,"] if Del Rio's account is accurate he disembarked from the Greyhound bus, [destined to Chicago, with a stop in Dallas,] which included passengers from the Transportes del Norte bus departing Mexico] either at Dilley, Texas or San Antonio, Texas..... If you read the details, I would have a hard time imagining that there would be any argument against the argument that the chances are good this is him....Obviously, I wasn't there...lol But it is a compelling document to say the very least..... A note to the novice I am continually amazed at the lack of interest in original Warren Commission documents, some seem to equate any reference that has the words Warren Commission, with its accompanying Secret Service, FBI interviews and CIA documents, as the same thing as the "Warren Report," which, is rather well, I will leave it at that, only to mention that a great deal of WC Supporting documents themselves were not declassified until circa 1970, 1971 and even later...... Cheers Something to think about. Worst case scenario: The whole interview is a charade deliberately put together to falsify where the 35 year old man with the pouch at the Embassy, originally misidentified as Lee Oswald really went....[if I have the right person, which I believe I do.] Even so, this Greyhound bus which is referenced, seems particularly compelling as, ostensibly, it is slated to arrive at Chicago, with a stop in Dallas. Chicago, besides being Jack Ruby's domain pre-Dallas as well as other considerations, leads to some rather interesting possibilities...not to mention Dallas for heaven's sake......

BK JFKCountercoup.blogspost.com It isn't very often that I describe a military biography as fascinating, but if you are knowledgeable about the history of some of the prime players in the JFK saga, Messr McConnell is more than kind of interesting..... I'm sure the connections wont be lost on Bill, at least. John Paul McConnell 1908-1986 air force officer. Born in Booneville, Arkansas, McConnell graduated from Henderson Brown College (now Henderson State) in 1927 and the next year entered West Point, from which he graduated in 1932. In 1933 he completed courses in aviation at Randolph and Kelly fields, Texas, and for four years he was assigned to the 79th Pursuit Squadron at Barksdale field, Louisiana, recieving promotion to first lieutenant in April 1935. During 1937-1939 he was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii and from June 1939 to January 1942 he was assigned to staff and training duty at Maxwell Field, Alabama and elsewhere, advancing to captain in September 1940 and to major in July 1941. Promoted to lieutenant colonel in January 1942, he was attached to the office of the chief of the Army Air Forces (AAF) for four months and then assigned to the AAF technical training center at Knollwood Field North Carolina where he was deputy chief of staff, and later chief of staff, receiving promotion to colonel in December 1942. After a brief period as deputy chief of staff of the AAF Training Command at Fort Worth, Texas, McConnell was ordered in November 1943 to the Southeast Asian theater of operations, where he served as chief of staff of the China- Burma-India air force training command until February 1944, as senior staff officer and deputy commander of the 3rd Tactical Air Force based at Comilla, India until September 1944, and, having been promoted to brigadier general in August, as senior staff officer of the Southeast Asia Air Command, Kandy, Ceylon, until June 1945. In April 1946, after a period as acting deputy chief of staff for intelligence of the Eastern Air Command in Chunking, China, he was named Commander of the Air Division, Nanking Headquarters Command, and senior air adviser to the Chinese Nationalist government. In June 1947 he returned to duty staff in Washington D.C. McConnell was appointed deputy commander and chief of staff of the Third Air Force in England in July 1950 and in December was promoted to temporary major general. In May 1951 he took command of the 7th Air Division in England, holding that post until March 1953 and during February-May 1952 also commanding the Third Air Force. From April 1953 to November 1957, he was deputy director and later director of plans of the Strategic Air Command, (SAC) at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. He commanded the Second Air Force Base at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana until August 1961, advancing to temporary lieutenant general in June 1959 and then returned to SAC as vice commander. McConnell was named deputy commander of the U.S. European Command in France in September 1962 and promoted to temporary general a month later. In August 1964 he bacame vice chief of staff of the air force, and in February 1965 he succeeded Gen. Curtis E. Lemay as chief of staff. He held that post until his retirement in July 1969, when he was succeeded as chief of staff by Gen. John D. Ryan. Among his later activities was his service from August 1970 as executive consultant to the Civil Air Patrol from page 259 Webster's American Military Biographies - G. & C. Some other items worth a look see especially Hancock's passage about Spanish names in relation to documents and persons..... In Spanish names the father’s name usually follow’s immediately after the given name and is in turn followed by the mother’s maiden name, such as Diaz (father’s name) Garcia (mother’s name) the proper short usage is the father’s name. For example the short name for Diaz Garcia would be Diaz or Diaz Garcia not Garcia. This could be important in references such as [Fabian] Escalante’s where he mentions “Garcia.” Standard usage would have him say either Diaz or Diaz Garcia if he meant Diaz Garcia. Although this is true in the critical sense, we know that the FBI and CIA commonly violated standard name convention in their documents; there is also reason to think that some exiles also violated it as a basic misdirection in references to themselves and to each other. page 530, Someone Would Have Talked, Larry Hancock - Copyright 2006 Computer Run on Luis Angel Castillo [2/13/68] http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?docId=14718&relPageId=2 I don’t know if this is him but it’s possible https://www.familysearch.org/search/recordDetails/show?uri=https://api.familysearch.org/records/pal:/MM9.1.r/DG5B-CMM/p1 Cheers

JFKcountercoup: Luis Angel Castillo When the ARRB received NSA documents related to the assassination there were none that related to Castillo, when we know for a fact, based on the Philadelphia court docs, that there are some. I think there is still an outstanding parole violation warrant out for Castillo from Bordentown, New Jersey, where he was sentenced to a state prison and under the care of an MKULTRA doctor. So if you run into him, turn him in. In addition, in 1949 E. Howard Hunt wrote a novel, "Bimini Run," about an American soldier-of-fortune named Hank Sturgis. Hunt later claimed he didn't know Sturgis until the Watergate caper. Sturgis' real name is Fiorini, and he was from Philadelphia, Pa. Bill Kelly By the way, anyone here know much about McCord and/or Morse Allen? I literally tripped over Fiorini last night while researching McCord; it looks like Fiorini helped McCord's wife as she rushed home when her dad was ill in early 63, I think that McCord was Chief of Security for Europe and living near Paris or Frankfurt in 1963. Thanks for posting the photos Bernice, just between you and me....I have always been of the opinion that this guy is really, I don't want to say inconsequential, but, I mean the whole Mexico City issue boils down to two issues. 1. Was Oswald even in the Soviet and Cuban Embassies in Mexico City, and if not were there any other places in Mexico that Lee Harvey Oswald is generally thought to have been that he wasn't? The Lee Harvey Oswald; not lookalikes, not Harvey Lee Oswald......not Zed, just focusing on Oswald. 2. How involved was the Western Hemisphere's CIA Station involved in setting up Oswald. The answer to the first question, would be a classic example of opinion taking pole position, [to use a racing analogy] over what can honestly be agreed upon. The second question is pretty obvious, at least to me is answered by "they were in it up to their neck", and possibly someday we'll find out how the JMWAVE station and George Joannides fits in........ In light of that I believe the above person is whose photos you graciously posted is a red-herring of sorts...... Lopez the author of the Lopez Report, is allegedly quoted as saying he didn't believe Oswald was even in Mexico City, the real Lee Harvey Oswald said the only time he was in Mexico, was in Tijuana I mean if the real Oswald was never at either Embassy, does it really matter who the MC Mystery man above is......? What do you think Bernice? I might add, I certainly don't think a CIA RobotStar pulse camera would photograph the assassin of JFK, if you know what I mean....... Perhaps the most revelatory aspect of the Mexico City charade, irrespective of the Oswald Cuban Soviet Embassies, is Angleton stealing Win Scott's diary..... FBI 62-109060 JFK HQ File, Section 193 July 9, 1977 Fred Coleman, Fred Burns Coweta, Oklahoma pilot alleges he flew Jack Ruby to Mexico before assassination El Paso. This memorandum reflects the result of an interview with Fred Coleman Route 2 Box 103A Coweta Oklahoma on May 9 1977 The records of the Dallas Texas Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation do not reflect any identifiable information regarding Fred Coleman, Fred Burns or (First Name Unknown) Gonzales [ ] Coweta, Oklahoma, telephone [redacted] voluntarily contacted SA [redacted] at Kips Big Boy Restaurant, located at 37th Street and Memorial, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and provided the following information. It might be kindly to point out Lee Harvey Oswald is generally accepted to have been in the Soviet Union re Coleman's allegation he saw "someone who looked like...Oswald......when he flew "Ruby" to "near Juarez."
  22. Upon reflection, I do not consider the photo on the right to have been taken any sooner than the mid '70s. I base this on the cut of the suit, width of tie and size of knot, and on his hair style. Additionally, if one accepts Duran's description that "Oswald" was blond and short, one should also accept the clothing description. Mr Photo-On-The-Right may not be a fashion plate, but rarely do you see someone dressed in suit and tie being described as "inelegant". It may fit the description of the man on the left, who additionally, looks to me like the type who might just turn red when angry. Otherwise the possibility exists that both photos came from the '70s. If anyone is really interested in showing that this photo could have been taken on the date claimed by Azcue, I'd recommend showing it to an expert in the fashion industry and ask them to try and pinpoint, based on clothing and hairstyle, what era the photo was taken. There is something I am a little unclear about. Are the two photographs of the Oswald Mexico City Mystery man from Azcue's photo collection. It seems that has been implied, or stated but I wanted to know for clarity's sake. And if they are not that would seem to make it incumbent to obtain Azcue's photo's, as that would eliminate the possibility of them sitting in a vault at the National Archives till 2039 or whatever. There is one other point, however it is more of a curiosity; The descriptions of this Oswald, particularly the 'face gets red when angry," I am aware the cause of the anger was being informed of the length of time it would take to get a visa exceeded the amount of time the "pretend" Oswald, who apparently knew how long the real Oswald's visa was good for.......Remember the quote ..."unless I used my real name." When Albert Osborne/John Howard Bowen was asked to describe the person sitting next to him NO TITLE, SUBJECTS: SEE FBI 105-82555-1929 pg 3 Found in: FBI Oswald Mexico City File (105-3702) John Bowen trip from Nuevo Laredo to Mexico City Mexico September 26-27 1963 and sat next to a young man described as 29 years of age 5"8 150 pounds thin blond hair dark complexion who appeared to be Mexican RIF#: 124-10029-10337 (UNDATED) FBI#: 105-3702-314 http://www.maryferre....do?docId=61381 I have wondered where did this guy come from, and recalled the account of Sam Newman mentioning coming into the aptly named Newman Building and finding a man in there, who is an electrician, CD 87 page 836 see NEWMAN, SAM ----- Sources: CD 87 SS 517*, pp. 5-6 DTR-00381; HSCA Vol 10, pp. 123-128 Mary's Comments: Owned 544 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA. When shown photograph of LHO, he could not recall ever having seen him. He described a young white male, approximately 22-24, 5' 9-1/2", 185lbs, fair complexion, light brown or blond hair, who spoke with a Spanish accent, who was found unlocking the door to the offices previously occupied by the CRC about ten days to two weeks after CRC left the Newman Building. * CD 87 pages 516-19 are pretty much illegible...and the Mary Ferrell pages seem in error, the page is actually CD 87 page 836] account is also in Oswald and the CIA - Newman What is interesting is Sam Newman was also an electrician.......At any rate, I wonder if these two persons are the same, seemingly a member of the by then dissolved Cuban Revolutionary Council goes to Mexico City to implicate Oswald, there is a sense of logic to it, and the descriptions are not that different. When the Cuban Revolutionary Council fell behind in their rent they kept their set of keys, which is why the unidentified person with blond hair was there in the first place.....I have run across something very similar to this before, concerning a big Hispanic/Latin hanging around the Crescent City Garage/Adrian Alba's place when Oswald was not there, where there were copies of The American Rifleman laid out on the table, in a document I read in the Other Individual's section of the microfiche collection the passage states that "Oswald brought his collection of magazines there." Which leads me to believe it was probably Lawrence Howard, Jr., who facilitated setting up Oswald through Seaport Traders, using the wrong issue of the American Rifleman of course. See CD 75 page 264-66 At any rate I believe the person Sam Newman encountered after the CRC left should be kept in mind, as well as the remote possibility that Azcue's photographs could be obtained, if the ones on this thread are not "those photographs." They are definitely not Maurice Bishop, [joke] If there is any additional thoughts regarding electricians...See NEAL, SAM (IS IT "NEILL"?) 23. Funny you mention that, I was showing his book NCTA to a friend just a day ago and his card dropped out of it... so I'll drop him a line. Naval Aviation Police Hat Shield: 2 3/8" badge, screw post bent, top nail bent over(prevents rotation), Aviator's wing was applied to the shield in the field. Ed, I'm glad that you have kept plugging away at this. I have a couple of things that might be of interest to you. The policeman who looks so interesting at Love Field was Stavis Ellis; see pages 142-156, 180; No More Silence - Larry Sneed He is said to have received an autograph from JFK, before the assassination. The main person of interest for myself is the policeman with the woman walking south away from the TSBD, after the shots were fired. There isn't any reasonable logic to that particular event, unless he decided to take the rest of the day off after the President of the United States was assassinated. If anybody even thinks they know who the two are, let me know. I do seem to recall something about a Doctor and or a nurse at the scene when the Epileptic fit occurred.....
  24. Robin, Todd, how do we know that's Allen? Pat check with Gary Mack or Todd As with all photographer identifications, i usually run it past Garry Mack first for Confirmationt before "Uploading" the images to my Gallery. Also i have learn't over the last 12-months not to second guess Todd's identification's He was instrumental in correctly helping to identify all the motorcycle cops seen in the assassination images, ( McIntire,Cancellare,Bothun ) etc: as usual i checked with Gary Mack for confirmation and Todd was right on the money. Robin. Here's a little more.......Great photos ALLEN, WILLIAM ANDREW Sources: WC 25 (220); HSCA VI (12, 67, 77); JFK Collection List, pg. 43 (AMKW 81) Mary's Comments: Photographer for Dallas Times Herald. Photographed Ruby's apartment between 4:00 and 6:00 P.M., 11/24/63. It [1963] was a year of technological innovations. Kodak introduced the Instamatic camera and Polaroid brought out color packs. Polyethylene appeared. Detroit’s fall models featured sleekly sloping rear windows— “fastbacks,” they were called; the one on the Sting Ray was particularly dramatic. On July 1, 1963 the Post Office Department, while announcing an increase in first-class postage from four cents to five, sprang the zip code system on a stunned and resentful public. The triumph of the digits moved one step closer with the conversion of the White House telephone number from NAtional8-1414. On the Bell systems’ master map the hatched areas indicating switchovers to direct dialing were spreading like a vast cancer; DDD reached 44.2 Bell subscribers in 1963. 25. Dallas Morning News 10-1-1977 Golden Weddings Mr. and Mrs. Reed Estelle and Stuart Reed of 3108, Maple Leaf Lane will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception given by their children from 3 to 5 pm at St. John Presbyterian Church, 3701 Westmoreland. The Reed were married Oct. 1, 1927 in Galveston. Reed retired in 1968 as the executive Director of the Panama Canal Zone Civil Service System after 32 years in the Army. Reed also served with the Department of the Army in Italy. Mrs. Reed is a retired Red Cross first aid and water safety worker. The Reed’s have two children, one grandaughter and one great-grandaughter. Also From the James Powell Thread http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=7809 ......Mull on the connective tissue of what follows below re: Powell and Oswald, and tell me if you think a linear tale emerges.... If you take a close look at the accompanying photo [sorry for the quality, but I'm barely competent with a scanner], you'll see two red circles. The top one identifies the building in which Powell worked, the Rio Grande Building on Elm St. where the 112th MIG was situated. The bottom circles shows a bus, purportedly driven by Cecil McWatters with one LHO aboard. For those who have always wondered why LHO walked east to catch a westbound bus, it should be noted that LHO reputedly boarded that bus within a block of the 112th MIG offices. This could be written off as entirely coincidental, were it not for the 112th MIG's apparent prior knowledge of LHO/AJH, as stipulated by Col. Robert Jones in his HSCA testimony. Draw whatever inferences you choose. More to the point, however, is that the photo below was one of two reproduced in Robert Groden's "The Search For LHO," both of which depict that same bus making its way along Elm St. toward the TSBD. Both photos were taken by Stuart L. Reed, who also snapped at least one shot of the TSBD and a number of shots of LHO being arrested and escorted outside the Texas Theatre [also contained in "TSFLHO"]. The quality of Reed's photos is remarkably good, suggesting that if he was an amateur photographer, he was quite gifted. More pertinent, however, is that it seems Stuart Reed snapped the TSBD not long after the assassination, as well as Oswald's getaway bus with Oswald on it, and the subsequent arrest. Had Reed been a news photographer in Dallas, one could easily attribute his ubiquitous omnipresence at all the hotspots that day to his connections with local police and members of the press. Yet, it appears Reed had no such source of immediate inside information. In a case already claustrophobic with coincidences, we seem to have yet another synchronicity. A private citizen photographed the building from which the assassin's bullets were purportedly fired, the very bus on which the purported assassin made his getaway [in two photos, as though trailing its progress], and the purported assassin's capture. The odds of this happening randomly are no doubt beyond the norms of statistical probability. Reed's photos [or at least copies of 14 JFK-related slides] seem to have found a repository at the Southeastern Louisiana University, and I think Reed devoted himself to running the family's sod farm in New Jersey in the interim. He would have been in his mid-20's in 1963, as I recall, and I think he may have been serving an active military hitch at the time, but cannot remember anything specific. I believe others here know something more about Stuart Reed, and I'd welcome any additional details about this remarkably lucky photographer. from Post by on the James Powell Thread I would tend to think that James Powell and Stuart Reed's activities were not mutually exclusive on November 22, 1963.
