Sure, Ben, especially the movements that involve violently invading the U.S. Capitol in order to hang the Vice President and subvert the results of a Presidential election.

It's totally unfair to demonize such anti-establishment, Trumplicon idealism, eh?  🤥

Akin to describing the Democratic Party as defined by BLM riots?

I still wonder how many BLM protesters would have been slaughtered on the steps had they decided to storm the Capitol.

I have no idea. The Capitol Police department is racially integrated.

It was a black Capitol Police officer who shot and killed an unarmed white female protestor perched in a window that day. That was the lone shooting of the day.

I do not define that as a racially motivated murder. My guess is the black Capitol Police officer simply panicked. The shooting seems inexplicable.  Maybe the officer was a racist, but who knows?

After 1/6, the 3,500-officer Capitol Police, who miserably failed at the most basic operations on that day, have been lionized in the media and in Congress. So, accusing the Capitol Police of racism has been downplayed. You can't lionize the Capitol Police and call them racist at the same time.

The above report is remarkable. In comparison, the Capitol Police make the Secret Service work on 11/22 look solid. Many failures are simply inexplicable.

Not in the above report, but reported by the WaPo: The Commander of the Capitol Police Civil Disturbance Unit---the lead unit for handling riots, etc.---was at home making meatloaf on the afternoon of 1/6.

How does that happen?

William, its fine to demonise a bunch of morons pushing into the capital. Its not fine to pass new laws that allow you demonise anyone in the population who expresses dissent or rejects government policy.

You must have pondered 9/11. As a result not only did the event demonise Muslim people, it manufactured public consent for 20 years of middle eastern invasions and exploitation/rackets. Another thing it did was passed draconian terror laws and gave the state the permission to surveil its own citizenry on safety ground. The same thing happened in the UK, India etc. Your emails, calls, texts etc could suddenly be read legally by the state at any time, if you were very loosely suspected of terrorist views. The invasion of our privacy is a result of that event.

Like 9/11, 1/6 was actually necessary for the state to pass even more draconian laws and give itself permission to surveil and read any communications of a private citizen and even freeze their money. 1/6 helped manufacture consent for the state to tighten its grip. Humour me here, lets put the shoe on the other foot and imagine its Trunp’s tenure again. Such laws would mean you expressing dissent for Trump online could mean he could surveil you, detain you and freeze your monies, because you expressed dislike for him online. If you let that sink in for a moment. We’re letting 1/6 take away peoples rights to protest and express dissent. We’re then a long way from democracy and the founding fathers and a lot closer to a totalitarian regime. Which do you want?

In China the other week, the leader of one of the huge protests suddenly saw his C19 App change to ‘red’ telling him he could not travel to the protests, as he might likely have C19. He stayed put as per the law, the red marker usually lasts 10 days. Mysteriously the day after the protests his App changed back to ‘green’ (despite a usual 10 day period). Go figure! I am telling you, it is a mistake to welcome in technocracy.

By all means try and convict every idiot who participated in your 1/6. Don’t consent to your government having powers to lock their citizens up like a Saudi Arabia, North Korea, China or Soviet Union.

Chris,

I'm no fan of the DHS surveillance state, or of police harassment of peaceful dissenters, but the issue with Trump's cult has more to do with protecting democracy from fascism.  Trumpsters have been threatening U.S. government and law enforcement officials, and even violently attacking the U.S. Congress (on January 6th.)

Is it inappropriate to demonize a political movement that wants to burn down the Reichstag and terrorize a democratic government?

“WASHINGTON (AP) — FBI agents who searched former President Donald Trump’s Florida home last month found empty folders marked with classified banners, according to a more detailed inventory of the seized material made public by the Justice Department on Friday. “

“The inventory shows that 43 empty folders with classified banners were taken from a box or container at the office, along with an additional 28 empty folders labeled as “Return to Staff Secretary” or military aide. Empty folders of that nature were also found in a storage closet.”

“It is not clear from the inventory list why any of the folders were empty or what might have happened to any of the documents inside.”

That stuff could be anywhere in the world by now.

This is beyond scary.

Trump wants to pardon all convicted January 6th violent Capital building and entire Congress attackers.

He also wants to financially support their legal defenses.

Uh...???

Is that crazy on top of crazy on top of crazy...or what !?

Trump is telling the world he believes these thousands of thugs violent injury, death and serious trauma afflicting attack on our Capital building full of our life fearing Congress members is not criminal enough to condemn?

And even worthy of defending?

That their extremely violent death and injury causing actions are legally and morally right enough to not only defend but even praise?

Am "I" living in an alternate universe reality?

In thinking these crazy Trump proclamations of financially helping and even pardoning of these violent vigilantes is so outrageous there should be big block print headlines on the front pages of all our major newspapers and news media web sites depicting them as such?

With a sub-title headline " TRUMP CRAZINESS CONTINUES!"

Federal Judge Cannon yesterday while hearing oral arguments on whether to appoint a Special Master cut off the wi-fi in the courtroom halfway through the session so that anyone outside the court room could not hear the arguments. She was appointed by Trump after he was defeated for the presidency. We taxpayers who pay her salary should be offended by her autocratic behavior and rulings, but we should not be surprised considering her background.
