Nobody said What? Nobody said What? Behave yourself!

Recommended Posts

At about the one minute point in his 11/22/63 press conference, Lee Oswald was addressed by a man in the audience (who appears to be standing well above Oswald's level, perhaps on a table, at the back of the room) who says "Nobody said what?  Nobody said what?" and then says "Behave yourself!"  Oswald looks up at this man, makes a disgusted facial expression, and soon after is escorted from the room. Who the hell was this guy, admonishing Oswald to "behave himself?" It doesn't sound like Jack Ruby's voice, but I believe that Ruby was reportedly in the room during this press conference, standing on a table near the back.  Whomever this person was, he appears to have been known to Oswald, who dismissed him as an annoyance.  Given Oswald's investment of time in observing the role of a spy (he was an avid fan of the TV show "I led three lives"), it's understandable that he would not "out" this person who was giving him pointed, public admonition about how he should "behave" -- but his disgust over being talked-to like that in a public forum is plainly obvious, and has never been explained or addressed before, to my knowledge.  This is the URL for the relevant section from that press conference:  https://youtu.be/uuMh1wVWKuw.  Anybody have any idea who the speaker is?

More food for thought.

The one that cracks me up is when the reporter shouts to Oswald "You don't have to sport! Knock it off!" When Oswald denies shooting anyone; different clip.

Clarity, better late than never.  Thanks, Vince.

The reporters seem to think Oswald is lying

when he says the police hadn't told him he is

being charged with the murder of the president.

He says the first time he heard that was when

the newspaper reporters asked him in the hall.

Jim Leavelle, the lead detective in the Tippit case,

who participated in the interrogations, told me Oswald

was telling the truth about that (Oswald

also seems shocked by that news). He was charged shortly after the midnight press conference

with murdering the president, but an FBI memo reports

that Oswald was only arraigned on the charge of murdering

a policeman, not on murdering the president. Leavelle indicated

to me that Captain Will Fritz told him Friday that they needed to make a

case on Oswald for the Tippit murder because they had little (actually

no) evidence he had shot Kennedy. I asked Leavelle why they

thought they had a better case for the Tippit murder, and he

said they had witnesses. But as we know, the witnesses in the

Tippit murder are all over the place about whether or not Oswald

did it or not or whether two other men did it, etc. Leavelle's comment also correctly implies

that they had no witness for Oswald supposedly shooting Kennedy.

The dubious Howard Brennan initially denied he had seen Oswald do it, but

he changed his story to fit the evolving tale and was a key witness for the Warren

Commission coverup version.

I played and replayed the 10 second recording 10 or more times.

The voice in the background clearly says "nobody says what?" - a question - twice.

And this same person then clearly says "behave yourself" condescendingly.

However, it sounds to me as if the person saying "nobody says what?" is addressing this question to "someone else" besides Oswald.

The reason being someone else responds to his "nobody says what?" question and "behave yourself" admonition comments by immediately responding back ..."okay."

Curious original post and question. Is this some type of audio interpretation Rorschach test?

Also, slight correction regards the quoting of Oswald's response at the midnight news conference when asked whether he had killed the President.

Oswald actually says ...nobody has "axed" me that question.

To me this reflected Oswald's many years of being around and hearing Southern black lingo pronunciation of the word..."asked."

Thanks, Joe.  I guess the clip’s an audio Rorschach test after all so it qualifies for the “food for thought” moniker.

Steven, is this audio real?

Or is this an "audio shopped" thing?

Just for fun?

If it's real, what in the heck is the meaning of "nobody said what?"

I pulled it from CNN’s YouTube record.  I think it’s real.  VonPein’s site has it too.

Just heard from someone who listened to the recording in this thread and heard the man say "Explain yourself" which makes much more sense than someone saying "Behave yourself."  Nevertheless, different listeners are hearing different things (as is always the case), but the interesting thing about "Explain" and "Behave" is that they're both two syllable words, with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable, so it is much more likely that the speaker is saying "Explain" than "Behave" but the sound he's making seems closer to "Behave" than "Explain" to my ear.  Thanks for sharing your perception with me.

What an odd piece of recording.

I listened to it again just now 5 or 6 times.

This time I could not hear the "behave" or "explain yourself" comment at all!

And unlike the 1st time I listened to it, this time I kept hearing "we can't hear you back here" from the fellow bellowing out "nobody said what?" just a split second after that question.

Also, just as the person in the press crowd behind the video recorder shouted his first "nobody said what?" comment I clearly noticed the eyes of one the white hatted police security men behind Oswald shift his eyes to his left...as if he zeroed in on the man shouting this.

I swear I heard the shouting man say "behave" the first time I heard this tape ... and this time nothing?

Yet in today's latest listen "we can't hear you back here."  ?

I have roaring tinnitus in my left ear. Maybe this is causing me to mishear things? Or maybe gobbling down too many Tums last night ( 10 ) has effected my hearing as well?

A true quirky fun mystery ... chuckles.

Could someone here please listen to the video audio again and tell me whether they also hear the "we can't hear you back here" shouted comment at the end?

I have not read where anyone else heard this and mentioned it.
