  1. Since there’s currently a lull in the thread, possibly due to the snag in the 1173 circle area, I’ll submit a couple of anagrams of the day. Here’s an anagram of “RICHARD CASE NAGELL: “1173 CIRCLE AREA SNAG” Also, there seems to be a great big “G” in middle of those circles - maybe Nagell did this on purpose? “RICHARD CASE NAGELL” also anagrams to: “N CIRCLES A 1173 ‘G’ AREA” A=0)(B=1)(C=2)(D=3)(E=4)(F=5)(G=6)(H=7)(I=8)(J=9)(K=10)(L=11)(M=12)(N=13)(O=14)(P=15)(Q=16)(R=17)(S=18)(T=19)(U=20)(V=21)(W=22)(X=23)(Y=24)(Z=25)
  2. Hi Jim, I don’t think you’re asking me, but I’ll give my opinion anyway. I think the card was created by, or arranged for by, Richard Case Nagell, who was responsible for certain aspects of Lee Oswald’s activities. Nagell was both working for and working against the assassination cabal of Dulles/Hoover/Banister/Ferrie/Phillips. Nagell was both helping to frame Oswald, while simultaneously creating dozens enigmas that would be noticed and pondered over by good researchers like you, enigmas with accompanying puzzles that could eventually show Oswald’s (and Nagell’s) innocence. Nagell imbedded his clever anagram puzzles in all of his pertinent activities, and Lee Oswald was in the know. “ICO” stands for “Igor”, “Case”, “Oswald”, and there were at least two civilian recruits, Jerry Belknap, and Wesley Frazier. I don’t have a feel for how much Jerry and Wesley knew, but “ICO” was trying to prevent the assassination, they failed, and the ICO puzzle system was part of their alibi. Oswald was carrying the card because like everything else in his wallet, it contained telling ICO puzzles. Richard C Nagell's puzzle system was the one place where he could tell the truth. It's nearly undetectable unless one is really, really, really, looking for it. My two cents.
  3. BINGO! Please regard this as a continuation of my two earlier posts above. Now get this: “HISTORIC DIARY” anagrams to “RICHARD’S ’88’ TOY”, and there are ’88’ puzzles in Oswald’s Historic Diary. The entire list can be found in my June 25, 2014 post at the link below: http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/topic/20276-the-oswald-code/ Puzzle #28 in Oswald’s Historic Diary is: “TO THE LAST KOPEEK” Note that “KOPEEK” is misspelled, but it needed to be, because this anagrams to: “TEST KOPEK AT HOLE” In the last post, we anagrammed "CORNER IUL 91" (CORNER IUL JB) to "RUBLE Jr. COIN", and then discussed the sizes of various Kopek coins, which all have values less than one Ruble. "RUBLE Jr. COIN" also anagrams to: "RUBLE Jr. ON '28'" Which is where we just found our answer, "TEST KOPEK AT HOLE", puzzle "28" in Oswald's Historic Diary. Connections! Yo, calling Chris Newton! Letter/Number key: A=0)(B=1)(C=2)(D=3)(E=4)(F=5)(G=6)(H=7)(I=8)(J=9)(K=10)(L=11)(M=12)(N=13)(O=14)(P=15)(Q=16)(R=17)(S=18)(T=19)(U=20)(V=21)(W=22)(X=23)(Y=24)(Z=25)
  4. Thanks Ian, but it’s going to take someone, or a group of someones, better at puzzles than I am to get to the bottom of this. And thanks for following along. Here’s another possibly intended anagram of “CORNER IUL”. If we take the next step after translating “91” to the letters “JB” and combine them with “CORNER IUL”, we can make this anagram: “RUBLE Jr COIN” After 1961, the coins worth less than one Ruble were the “Kopek” coins and came in denominations of 1, 2, 3, 5, 15, 20, and, 50 Kopek values, the Ruble being worth 100 Kopeks. The 15 Kopek coin, for example, was 19.5mm in diameter, the 20 Kopek coin had a diameter of 21.8mm, and the 50 Kopek coin was 24mm. Since the DD Form 1173 is 2 1/8 inches tall, it should be possible for someone with good graphics skills to see if the circles Chris drew for us are the same size as one of the post 1961 Soviet Kopek coins. Tom
  5. Hi Ian, Sure, the “9” could be an upside down “6”, but then the number “1” with the typical little hook on the top wouldn’t work. I’ll explain my thinking: It’s my hypothesis that Richard Case Nagell was embedding his puzzles in most of Oswald’s activities. So I try to think like Nagell, find as many of his puzzle pieces as possible, and if I’m on track, the puzzle pieces start fitting together into something coherent and informative. Since I had suspected that the three corner letters were “IUL” and I saw no meaning in that, I tried to imagine what RCN wanted us to do to make them meaningful, and I picked the most obvious phrase I could think of: “IUL CORNER” And this anagrammed to: “OUR LIE. RCN” Since Richard C Nagell also had a somewhat silly version of the DD Form 1173, this anagram seemed to make some sense. But Nagell had a gift, in my view, for packing several pertinent anagrams into his puzzle parts so I looked further. But if you haven’t been following my posts, I need to explain something before I continue. According to my reading of the puzzles, Oswald was directed by his handlers to buy a rifle and a hand gun through the mail. This, of course, guaranteed a paper trail for his patsy bona fides. But Richard pulled one of his many stunts, found a similar Mannlicher Carcano, and gave it his own puzzled up serial number, “C 2766” (a number which has rather profound meaning). In the puzzles, Richard calls this rifle a “Ringer Rod”, usually abbreviated “RR”. This was one of his “BIG” stunts, and this was the rifle that caused Hoover a ton of grief on assassination day because it didn’t match the Oswald paper trail. Another anagram of “IUL CORNER” is: “CLUE: RR ON I” So looking on the “I” in “IUL” we see what appears to be the small hand-written number, “91”, which does fit somewhat with Richard’s “RR” (Ringer Rod) Carcano, model 91/38” One of Richard’s big stunts was creating this substitute rifle, but the main stunt, another big lie (“Our Lie. RCN) was to be performed on assassination day by one of Richard’s civilian recruits, Jerry Belknap, and the number “91” translates to the letters: “JB” JB's stunt was designed to force the motorcade to take an alternative route. “OUR LIE. RCN” = The DD Form 1173, the Carcano 91/38, and Jerry Belknap. I'm not really making an argument for this, it's just one possible puzzle piece. Tom Letter/Number key: A=0)(B=1)(C=2)(D=3)(E=4)(F=5)(G=6)(H=7)(I=8)(J=9)(K=10)(L=11)(M=12)(N=13)(O=14)(P=15)(Q=16)(R=17)(S=18)(T=19)(U=20)(V=21)(W=22)(X=23)(Y=24)(Z=25)
  6. I’m pretty sure that the photo on Oswald’s DD 1173 and the photo on the Alek James Hidell Selective Service card are different photographs. I propose that they are a pair of stereo images taken at the same instant with a Stereo Realist camera that was turned approximately 90 degrees to the left. Therefore, to view the 3-D pair of images, they must be rotated 90 degrees to the left. Using an old-fashioned Stereoscope, the photo from the Selective Service card would be on the left, and the DD 1173 photo on the right. With a few differences, a similar technique was used in CE 133A and 133C to make a pair of stereo images, and the 3-D of Oswald’s back yard is stunning. Since there are no background images in these card photos, the 3-D effect is not as dramatic. Later this afternoon, or possibly tomorrow, I’ll post some instructions about how I think one should go about setting up this pair of stereo images. Sorry, I’m not able to post images right now - Photobucket’s new ransom policy. Sandy, if you still have your Stereoscope and are interested in this, send me your email in a PM and I’ll send you some stereo images to look at.
  7. Yo Sandy, I think the corner letters are “IUL” and the number “91” is written over the first letter, the “I”.
  8. There’s a lot of talk in older posts on various websites claiming that the P.O. stamp was made with a quarter, and the “U” visible in the lower right of the photo is the “U” in the word “QUARTER DOLLAR” on the tail’s face. Supposedly, one could ink the raised outer rim of the quarter’s face, and the letter “U”, and use it as a stamp. The date would then be filled in with an inked letter/number stamp. After a few careful measurements, I’m pretty sure that’s bunk. My old military ID is 2 1/8 inches, and a quarter is .950 inch. If a quarter was indeed used, the card would be much too big to fit into a normal wallet. Also, the “U” in the lower right of the photo is 2 1/2 time bigger than the “U” on a quarter should be, and it’s also upside down. I wouldn’t rule out a plastic bottle cap and a stamp kit, however. I’m pretty sure both this DD 1173 and the goofy looking Nagell version were manufactured by, or at least commissioned by, Richard Nagell for his puzzle purposes. I don’t think I’ll be off topic if I bring this up again after I get deeper into his puzzle. Tom
  9. Jim asked: “Does anyone have Doug Horne’s long essay on this issue that he did for the ARRB? I think its online someplace” Apparently the links on Bill Kelly’s 2009 post used to get this Douglas Horne essay. The links no longer work but maybe they will help track it down. http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/topic/15121-oswalds-military-id-dd1173/?page=1
  10. My US Military service didn’t start until 1967, but every piece of official military ID I was familiar with was laminated in plastic. According to the La Fontaine’s, (Oswald Talked, p. 78), one of the inconsistencies with Oswald’s DD 1173 was that it was un-laminated, per 1959 Marine Corps regulations.
  11. Jim asked, “If I recall correctly, did not the La Fontaines write about this in their book ‘Oswald Talked?” The link below provides about 13 pages of the La Fontaine’s thorough looking research into the card under discussion. Unfortunately, the introductory and concluding pages are missing from this google books preview. It’s worth reading, however, and if anybody has the book, it would be interesting to know the La Fontaine’s conclusion. "House of Cards" chapter, start at page 66. https://books.google.com/books?id=ymfQdYoqKyEC&pg=PA70&lpg=PA70&dq=4,271,617&source=bl&ots=8sAdoVwyIt&sig=Ew3c_aoaT1lNJD4uhU6EXR_O7lo&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj2_taeiPPVAhWGjlQKHdCcBHA4ChDoAQhIMAk#v=onepage&q=4%2C271%2C617&f=false
  12. So if I may jump to a conclusion, Chris, you’ve discovered that the Oswald ID card is a forgery. I was going to give this a rest, but I can’t help myself. The line on Oswald’s card that tells “eye color”, “hair color”, “height”, and “weight”, reads: “GREY, BROWN, 71”, 145” Translating the numbers to letters, we get: GREY BROWN HG OF” And this anagrams to: “RN 22 FORGE HOBBY” “RN” would stand for “Richard Nagell”, and “22” was assassination day. Tom
  13. Well, it appears to tell us that Lee Oswald was carrying ID for a retired military person? Good find. I don't recall anyone ever discovering this before.
  14. Hi Chris, In your last post you wrote: “Re-considering that card... what is it’s purpose?” My take is that the card, like dozens of other enigmas surrounding Oswald, are puzzles for you and I to ponder and eventually solve. Below your picture it says, “Interests: solving puzzles”. I don’t think you meant the same kind of “puzzles” I’m talking about, but it might be something to consider. On March 13, 1963, Seaport Traders allegedly received a order coupon from A J Hidell dated January 27, but no year was entered. When we translate the numbers “27” in “January 27”, our anagram puzzle becomes, “JANUARY CH”, and this anagrams to: “AJH, A U-Y. RCN” In other words, “A J Hidell, a U-Y. Richard Case Nagell” Those that have been following my posts will recognize “U-Y” as the puzzle term for ICO’s primary stunt to prevent the assassination. Jerry B Belknap would perform a well rehearsed and perfectly timed epileptic fit. This event and the subsequent attending ambulance would force the motorcade to do a “U-Y”, force the motorcade to take an alternative route away from the TSBD and Elm Street. The ICO puzzles are filled with references to the “olive drab” wearing Jerry Belknap’s fit-stunt, in which he was also supposed to “pee” his pants, and pee them big time. ICO wanted JB’s event to be memorable. “ICO” stands for “Igor”, “Case”, “Oswald”, and their “U-Y” stunt failed, Lee Oswald never made it to trial, and we are left with hundreds of ICO’s puzzles. Staying on topic, here’s a typical example of Jerry Belknap and the “PP” stunt ICO had him perform during his fit: Both of the firearms Oswald was told by his handlers to buy, he had sent to his Post Office box in Dallas, “P.O.Box 2915”. Translating the numbers to letters in this address yields: “POBOXCJP” And this anagrams to: “JB PP. OxC. O” We have another math problem, “O x C”, which translates to “14 x 2”. This equals “28”, which translates to “CI”. Our final anagram, then, becomes: “JB PP. ICO” Getting a P.O.Box that would do for a puzzle one wanted to make would be easy for first-class spook like Nagell. I've had the same P.O.Box for fifty years and I chose the number - it's the same as my house number and the last four digits of my telephone number. Tom A=0)(B=1)(C=2)(D=3)(E=4)(F=5)(G=6)(H=7)(I=8)(J=9)(K=10)(L=11)(M=12)(N=13)(O=14)(P=15)(Q=16)(R=17)(S=18)(T=19)(U=20)(V=21)(W=22)(X=23)(Y=24)(Z=25)
  15. I’ll confine my speculation to the October 23, 1963 date on Oswald’s ID card. For anagram purposes I’ll translate the numbers in “October 23, 1963” to letters (number/letter translation key at bottom): “OCTOBER X TGD” This anagrams to: “GOT BORED. CxT” We have a math problem, “CxT”, and translating the letters to numbers, “2 x 19”, equals: “38” This puzzle answer is a triple entendre. The silliest answer emerges when we translate the “38” to the letters, “ID”, and make this puzzle anagram: “ID, GOT BORED” Removing the comma from the above, the answer becomes more meaningful: “ID GOT BORED” And his ID did get bored with a big round enigmatic Post Office stamp. But for the most meaningful answer, we keep the numbers “38” and make this anagram: “.38 GOT BORED” And Oswald's .38 S&W had in fact been re-chambered ("Got Bored") to use .38 special ammunition. Why would Oswald have written the date “Oct 23” on Ruth’s March 1963 calendar page? Because March is when Oswald received his mail-order re-chambered .38 special - one big piece of his patsy bona fides. There is probably much more to Exhibit No. 50 and I’ll do more work on it. Opinion: Why were Oswald, Nagell, and Vaganov making puzzles pertaining to the assassination they were trying to prevent? Because if they failed to sabotage the deed, they would have a huge body of solvable puzzles to document their efforts. They wanted to go to trial, and they could have brought the house down. The puzzles were their “Immunization Card”. Speaking of "Immunization Cards" Lee Oswald's was signed by one “Dr A J Hideel”. This name anagrams to: “A J.E.H. RIDDLE” Tom A=0)(B=1)(C=2)(D=3)(E=4)(F=5)(G=6)(H=7)(I=8)(J=9)(K=10)(L=11)(M=12)(N=13)(O=14)(P=15)(Q=16)(R=17)(S=18)(T=19)(U=20)(V=21)(W=22)(X=23)(Y=24)(Z=25)
  16. We know Nagell’s card is a fake, do you gentlemen think Oswald’s is legit or not? (Off topic comment deleted)
  17. Hi Jim - either your link doesn't work or I don't know how to use it.
  18. A good read - thanks Jim. At the end of the article, Joseph E. Green provides the link to his interesting website, which contains an error. This will work: http://www.dissentingviews.com
  19. Hi Jason, What your son will see between 1:14 and 1:27 is two separate shots of two separate but similar looking young men (in their 20s?) standing on the inside of the entrance to a building. We see one man standing for a few seconds. The film is stopped and then started again, but another man has taken his place. These men are obviously posing for the camera but this footage is very dark. The entire 3-minute film appears to be a very poorly made home movie, but I submit that it was very likely filmed to appear so. The men in the foyer are essentially unnoticeable by the casual observer and I submit that this was intentional. The men were the filmmakers giving themselves a cameo, an intentional appearance that could only be appreciated with close scrutiny. If I’m wrong about this, I’ll apologize in advance to your son (or anyone else that wants to take a close look at this) for wasting his time. Tom
  20. I wish you all the best of luck in finding John T Martin, Paul (or “Jack T Martin”, if you prefer). New topic - The Film: I’ll go a little farther out on a limb and say that if a good hand with Photoshop were to look closely at 1:14 through 1:27 of the John T Martin film and report back to us, we just might see Lee Harvey Oswald and one of his cohorts. http://emuseum.jfk.org/view/objects/asitem/search@/19/title-asc?t:state:flow=f8868938-26bf-4013-87ba-785a360b41c4 Thanks for the new link, Chris. One needs to enter “John T Martin” in the “Search” window (Jack T Martin won’t get it). How about letting this post sit here for a few minutes to see if that hypothetical Photoshop hand will take the bate? Tom
  21. What up? The John T Martin film that the 6th Floor Museum made available at the link below is gone - replaced with the Jackie Tindel film: http://emuseum.jfk.org/view/objects/asitem/classification@Films/9/title-asc?t:state:flow=b3cfa3d9-2faf-449b-9beb-32dee07c3297 I hope you made a copy, Paul.
  22. Hi Jason and Paul, Sure, trying to locate the real John T, or Jack T, Martin might be fruitful, but since the film appears to be so blatantly coincidental, it looks to me like a possible trap somebody set for Walker. The real meaning of the film might be in the film itself, and here’s a suggestion I made in November of last year on this thread: “A shot in the dark: It’s my suspicion that John T Martin is a fictional character, and that the real filmmakers filmed a cameo of themselves at a building in downtown Dallas. The footage is between 1:14 and 1:27 and while it’s very dark, someone on the forum with the proper skills and software might be able to give us a good look at these fellows - it might turn out to be important.” I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that we all know the two guys in that cameo footage, but somebody on the forum with Photoshop skills would have to shed some light on the subjects, and identifying them looks a whole lot easier than identifying Prayer Man. Tom
  23. Bill Kelly has some interesting Philadelphia stuff here: http://jfkcountercoup.blogspot.com/2011/08/ And if memory serves, he also has something to say about the seemingly disproportionate number of connections between Philly and the assassination, but I can’t find it right now, if in fact it exists. Maybe he’ll join in. Minutiae: Oswald, or an Oswald impersonator, bought tickets at Top Ten Records on the morning of 11/22/62, bought tickets to Dick Clark’s up-coming appearance in Dallas. You know, The Dick Clark Show, American Bandstand from Philadelphia (until 1964 anyway).
  24. http://digitalcollections.baylor.edu/cdm/compoundobject/collection/po-arm/id/28787/rec/5 Thanks for your post, Michael, it gives me the chance to thank Jim Hargrove for steering me toward this long article. I had actually read it a few years ago and was put off by it but I didn’t remember why until I re-read it. John Berendt: “In spite of the unanswered questions, it would appear that the Philadelphia group is on to the wrong man [Vaganov]. He’s a curious individual. True, Vaganov tells a tall tale once in a while, he has acute fuzz paranoia and there are coincidences which lend sinister implications to his visit to Dallas. But his lies are usually the self-aggrandizing type, his fear of cops stems from his bad-check days and his coincidental movements are no fault of his own. Vaganov’s willingness to be questioned, to have his picture published in a national magazine, to go to Dallas and face the Tippit eyewitnesses, would by themselves tend to rule him out. Furthermore there is not one shred of direct evidence linking him with either the killing that day or with any of the principals involved. If indeed he was involved in something shady in Dallas, it was something other than the assassination....all that matters now is that the critics [of the Warren Report] are probing on their own, chasing down suspects and unintentionally infringing on the privacy of innocent people. They are sincere in their efforts, but sooner or later somebody is going to get hurt.” John Berendt appears to be telling us to move along - nothing to see here. I have no reason to think that Igor Vaganov shot Tippit, but I have every reason in the world to think that Igor Vladimirs Vaganov was involved in the assassination in a very interesting way and should be studied thoroughly (see my previous post). While I concede Mr Berendt’s point about infringing on peoples privacy, the point is now moot in the case of Igor Vaganov as he’s no longer with us according to the Social Security Administration. What I wouldn’t give for five minutes with Igor. It’s my hypothesis that Richard C Nagell created a puzzle language and that he and Igor V Vaganov told us the whole assassination story, from their point of view, with a focus on Oswald’s part in the plot. I’ve been trying to learn that language. Tom
  25. Maybe it’s just me, but there seem to be a disproportionate number of possible “MC” or “CM” connections to Lee Harvey Oswald. “MINOX CAMERA” “MARINE CORPS” “MANNLICHER CARCANO” “MEXICO CITY” “CARLOS MARCELLO” “MICKEY COHEN” “CORD MEYER” “MERCURY COMET” “MORRIS CHILDS” “MONTREAL CANADA” “MARGUERITE CLAVERIE” “CARL MATHER” “MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE” To an anagrammer, some of these appear to be related. For example, “Cord Meyer” anagrams to: “YO, RED MERC” It was a red Mercury Comet that Oswald, or an Oswald impersonator, wildly test drove shortly before the assassination. “RED MERCURY COMET” anagrams to: “CORD MEYER, MC tour" “MINOX CAMERA” anagrams to: “AMERICAN MO: X” Can anyone think of any more “CM” or “MC”, connections?
