  1. John, Would you say its been Filtered or Sanitized? Ed
  2. Thanks Greg! That was worth the read. Ira Whitney could very well be a relative. The connections are exactly what I expected. Ed
  3. Excellent summation Jim. Where there is smoke there is fire and this thread is HOT! Ed
  4. I would like more info on Mr Whitney. During the 1970s, Jock Whitney was listed as one of the ten wealthiest men in the world. He had a spouse who was married to Roosevelt's son , Betsey Maria Cushing. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=43410893 After a honeymoon at Greenwood Plantation in Thomasville, Ga., one of Mr. Whitney's many residences, the newlyweds moved to Washington, where he ran the motion picture division of the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, headed by Nelson A. Rockefeller. Mr. Whitney later joined the Air Force, rose to colonel, was a German prisoner for 18 days in 1944 before escaping and got several decorations. In 1949, Mr. Whitney adopted his wife's two daughters. The Whitneys moved to London in 1957, when President Eisenhower named Mr. Whitney Ambassador to the Court of St. James's. Mrs. Whitney renewed her friendship with the Queen Mother, whom she had met on the 1939 visit to America. Both Ambassador and Mrs. Whitney became close to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Mrs. Whitney spent a good deal of her time making the Whitney residences comfortable and welcoming. In his book, Mr. Grafton quoted a friend of hers as saying, ''The Jock Whitneys are just about as 'down-to-earth' as any people can be with a quarter of a billion dollars.'' http://www.nytimes.com/1998/03/26/nyregion/betsey-cushing-whitney-is-dead-at-89.html?pagewanted=4&src=pm Could we do a search on him. Is he a relative to Ira B. Whitney? Ira was chemical engineer at Oak Ridge and did the fluoride tests. Ed
  5. David, Per DVP's website: HEINZ MICHAELIS -- "That is a copy of the receipt which we got from the Railway Express Agency showing that on March 20, 1963, one carton with a pistol was shipped to A. Hidell, P.O. Box 2915, Dallas, Texas. It shows, furthermore, that Railway Express is instructed to collect a c.o.d. fee of $19.95. And it shows furthermore the number of the original receipt, which is 70638." Seaport shows it got ten dollars CASH, and Josephs correctly asks how the money got to Seaport? Well if the PO was forwarding monies around for Lee, (hanging my head low in disbelief) then they must have just forwarded the ten bucks too. (picks myself off floor, straightens my tie, and continues typing) as DVP says: "I suppose it's possible that I'm wrong about how these types of "COD" transactions worked..." Ya think?!?! Yeah have DVP cough up the Jackson pay stub while he's at it. Oh that's right he can't....Just like a Seaport Check/MO or envelope that would need to hold the coupon and/or ten dollars. They doesn't exist. And at this point are fable. Plus Jim DiEugenio correctly describes the gun as a S&W .38 Special not a Commando. Seaport just called it a commando to prevent confusion with a higher priced snub nose revolver. DVP tries to argue Smith and Wesson called it a Commando....WRONG! Wrong as wrong can be! Just as he is wrong when it comes to the transactions. Mr. BALL. It is described as an S. & W. .38 special, 2-inch Commando. What is the meaning of that? Mr. MICHAELIS. Two inch is the barrel length. Commando is a description which we more or less gave because we have another 2-inch gun at a higher price and, in order that the order filler is able to identify between the two types, we have this type described as Commando. Facts are not DVP's friend. Production: 38/200 British Service Revolver (S&W Caliber) - There were over 571,629 of these models produced between October 1941 and May 1945 for the British Common wealth countries. These countries include the Union of South Africa (21,347), Canada (45,328), and Australia (8,000). The remaining 384,100 shipped between 1941 and the end of World War II were supplied by the U.S. Army Ordnance through the lend lease program to Britain for distribution. Victory model 38 Special – 352,000 shipped to the Army and Navy. Some of these were shipped to a commission responsible for supplying the civilian industries. They will usually have no property marks. Uses included guarding factories, ports, and federal/local government agencies. Note: You can find all kinds of variations, with additional war and post war markings. These include rebuild markings, country ownership markings, unit markings, and much more. For a complete listing see the books referenced below. Recommended reading: US Handguns of WW II - The Secondary Pistols and Revolvers by Charles W. Pate Americas Right Arm - The S&W Military and Police Revolver by John Henwood Smith and Wesson 1857 - 1945 by Robert J. Neal and Roy G. Jinks The Victory model was so named for the "V" prefix which was placed before the serial number and represented "Victory" against the Axis powers in World War II. Serial numbers for the .38 special Victory model began at about V1 in early 1942 and ran until VS811119 with a date of late August of 1945 (end of production). V1 to approximately V39,999 were predominately .38 S&W Caliber (I have observed revolvers in the 1-40000 range in .38 special caliber). Serial numbers are located on Inside right grip, frame butt, Cylinder, extractor star, and bottom of barrel. Crane and crane recess are also serial numbered to each other, but this is a different number then the revolvers serial number as is correct for Victory model revolvers. http://coolgunsite.com/pistols/victory_model_smith_and_wesson.htm The word PAID on the DL-28 was for the TEN DOLLARS deposit. It shows that the $10 was PAID in CASH. If a bad check came in and was rejected by the bank then the word PAID hopefully would not appear on the original invoice... But if cash came in, then yes it would be marked on the DEPOSIT slip as paid and the transaction moves forward. Jim also tears a new one for Michaelis' accounting. The ten dollars was marked paid on the order, but the $19.95 isn't and we are to accept that. Not so fast! Jim is correct when he says there is no proof the monies were paid. There should be as that was Michealis' job as a supervisor/manager!!! I would have Seaport rethink its 'management' by Marketeers. I mean for an 'accountant' or supervisory to say the money was paid because I have an order stapled to another copy of the order is flimsy. Yes the white slip was attached to the red one so I know it was paid???? (He NEVER says I know it was paid because I marked it PAID or it was marked paid, I have a signed receipt, cashed check, postal receipt, ledger entry, etc.) I have to remember not to hire CPA firm of Michaelis and Co. to do my taxes next year or expect an audit. Ed
  6. Thanks David! Now that is an open and accessible president! Must have being approached four times in that 21 seconds, and got lei'd too. Ed
  7. Thanks for this Steve. The many pages of comments are actually more interesting than the article. Tom Stewart, Joel Grant, et al are way off, funny as they claim to have read everything. paulpsd7, and paladin22 do some setting straight. Greg Parker points to Jefferson's use of McAdams' website, and Morley calling it a quality site that "seeks to identify the most reliable information about the JFK story and encourage debate about the key questions". Come on Jeff! Ed
  8. ...and what about the Alice Fraizer claim: "Before they left the apartment building, Eva told the assistant manager, Alice Frazier, that she was going to be left in charge for a while. Eva advised Alice not to say anything about Jack Ruby or that she even knew him if she was questioned by the media. Alice Frazier, the assistant apartment house manager, didn’t heed Eva Smith’s warning and told the reporters everything she knew about Jack Ruby. The next day she was found behind her apartment and her throat had been cut." Ed
  9. Thanks Greg, Minnie said Lee was completely unfriendly, she had little to no interaction with him. It did seem strange Minnie saying that Marina spoke english, unbroken and clear english. I specifically asked about overhearing Oswald' conversations in Russian, Minnie could not recall overhearing any Russian spoken. She recalls hearing the news of the assassination and of Ruby shooting Lee, but at the time with her job and baby she didn't pay a whole lot of attention to it. She said "I guess that's why Lee was so unfriendly, that must have been the reason." Will send some materials and re-interview. Also James Jackson did not recognize the two American Bakeries pay checks from the Baylor University collection. He stated his wife at the time had 'visitors' and once caught his insurance man on the back stairs. James did not think much about it except why would the insurance guy not just use the front steps. Will send photo materials and re-interview. Ed
  10. Received a call from Kristy Gray, Kristy said she was not living with George and Clydie at the time but said her Aunt(?) was and handed the phone to a Minnie Williams. She worked a lot and had a baby at the time she lived with Clydie but she does vividly recall Lee and Marina with baby June. Marina spoke english to her. Not broken english either. Oswalds did not drive. Did not see any visitors. Did not see them attend church. Doesn't recall landlord/owner. Thinks George and Clydie had a phone, but Marina did not ask to use it as far as Minnie knows. Doesn't recall exactly what her and Marina discussed, baby stuff. She worked at a bowling alley (Oak Cliff Bowling Alley?) as a waitress, she saw Jack Ruby playing pool there. Re-interviewed Mr. James Jackson. He had some speculation as to how his pay stub was in LHO's possession. He thought the dalliances of his ex-wife may have been to blame. Perhaps a local Lee found his way into her bedroom and he picked it up. James said his ex admitted to his daughter about her having affairs back then. She followed him from Chicago after a one night stand. His Father said he could not live with him since they were unwed so he left Chicago. Said she has had several children with several other gentlemen, but her maiden name was Briar or Brier. He recently found the Mary Ferrell site on the internet and has been reading it, does not believe that LHO did the act. Ed
  11. Depends when and where it was 'observed' by the witness. ie Dallas, H&E or at "Ford" Are ya trolling for kooks? lol
  12. I agree, the original Bamboo and espresso contemporary color scheme would be better, the yellow and blue not so much. Like the bamboo along the side of the pages: http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/WWcalifornia.htm Other than that looks great John!
  13. Reagan was as helpful as possible, He said Gladys is incapacitated and she took all Waldo's belongings after his death. He was aware of the time when his father owned the Neely St. duplex. He could offer nothing else. He was aware of the Oswald's living there, but could not substantiate this. He said he was not able to be more use but said he could be contacted again. Ed
  14. Thanks Tom! Will see what I can glean from this. Ed
  15. IMPORTANT* We need to track down his employment through census or other records: GEORGE BROWN GRAY Soc#:417-30-2090 Born:June 7, 1928 Died:February 9, 2006 77 years TX 77351 (Livingston, Polk County) Soc# was issued in AL Did he work as a garbage man for the city in 1963? Ed
  16. I called Clydie Gray, she is elderly and hard of hearing. She said she worked at Akers(?) Department store, and George B Gray worked for the city as a Garbage man. Doesn't remember the owner of the apts. Didn't recall which church she was attending while at Neely. She remembered the Oswald's living upstairs. Marina used to walk the baby in front of her outside. She saw Lee many times. They were not friendly with them. She did not want to talk much longer and had to hang up... Ed
  17. Thanks Lee will add them. Will also send the pic asap. I too want to see. Ed
  18. LOL Greg, I hear that, not much there like the stub, a photo of the stub, a copy of the stub, the exact date of the stub, etc. Yep that's considered evidence in this case. Whew. Glad the Bug was able to work it all out from what little there is/was. Yes lets move along, nothing to see here. Onward and Downward to the Gray's! (downstairs apartment) Ed
  19. I contacted Kevin the archivist at The City of Irving Library. He said the watch they have is not related to LHO. Ed
  20. Thanks Michael, Bugliosi says it was an August 22nd pay stub. The paycheck of James A Jackson issued on August 22nd was check #82-19356 and was for the amount of $56.78 This is the problem I'm having. If he worked one day and received $14.69 on Aug 20 he could only have worked two days for a check on the 22nd. Even if it was all overtime (time and a half) it still would not amount to much over $44 dollars. Even if it was for the 20th, 21st and 22nd it still would not amount to much over $44 dollars. So how did James get a check for what seems to be 4 days work in 2 days? Without the actual stub we are pissing in the wind, and so was the FBI.(IMO) Remember this STUB was never shown to James... This stub, so far, is hearsay. We don't know for sure it was JAJ's stub. We don't know who's stub it was. Where is this STUB? Can anyone with 'Reclaiming History' please tell me what is on pages 1560 and 1570 with regard to James Jackson? Thanks, Ed
  21. Was the pay stub "found on Lee" really from the 22nd of November (1960)? Coincidences never cease. http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?mode=searchResult&absPageId=485780 Stub was dated 22nd or 27th....well now if we had the stub or photo of stub then this would not be questioned! Contents of Lee's wallet: http://historymatters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh24/html/WH_Vol24_0018a.htm No photo of stub, was this because it was not in the wallet? Or because it was found at Neely St and mixed-up/in with Lee's personal property post arrest. http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/marysdb/showRec.do?mode=searchResult&id=5113 I am unable to read the property clerks invoices: http://historymatters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh24/html/WH_Vol24_0182a.htm Will Fritz did not turn these items over till the 10th of Dec: http://historymatters.com/archive/jfk/wc/wcvols/wh22/html/WH_Vol22_0104b.htm Was Fritz trying to tie LHO to Neely and those backyard photos, was he trying to put LHO on the bus? Ed
  22. Lee, thank you, James' only importance would be related to the apt. and pay stubs. Since he was gone before LHO rented he was not much help with LHO. Carol Hewett had to speak with Junior. James did not mention AR in his list of places. Junior did live in AR according to an internet search I did. Thanks Greg, I will add questions to the mailing I'm sending him. The person we need to find would be Bray/Gray, the downstairs tenant within the same time frame as LHO!! The pay stub/s could very well be red herrings. The stub was never shown to James by the FBI, they just questioned James about it and his employment etc. They likewise could have been somehow left in the apt and LHO found it/them(perhaps fell under a drawer). Lets see what James has to say when he gets the checks and other questions. I did question the checks as the one has a sum of over $70 seventy dollars (#82-19406). The most he ever made according to accounting by Jean Clark with American Bakeries was about $66 dollars.($83 once) James agreed with that. Plus I questioned the dates. If he worked ONE day and and received check 82-19311 for $14.69 then how did he get a check for $56.78 TWO days later on Aug 22nd??? The pay mix up with another employee wasn't at this time, it was in Oct., so that rules out this as a possibility. The listing has the check as the 27th, the end of a work week Saturday. but check is dated the 22nd a Monday. How do you work through the 27th but get paid for it on the 22nd? http://www.maryferrell.org/mffweb/archive/viewer/showDoc.do?mode=searchResult&absPageId=484841 Ed
