I was spelling it the way the prez pronounces it, sarcastically.

I realize it's not about violence but that's the way it's framed by the right, or the prez at least.

That IS how it’s pronounced, Ron.

You can pronounce “anti” two ways — antee or antie.

I pronounce it antee. An-TEE-fa.

OG Antifa outta the U.K.

I'm wondering if there might be a armed open carry protest in Houston in the next few days by disgruntled republicans.  They were proceeding with plans for a face to face convention there in spite of pleas not to by the mayor and others.  Given that Houston at the moment is possibly the hottest of hot spots on the planet for covid not having the convention seems like the logical thing to do.  Rebuffed, the mayor asked the city legal team to look into the contract.

"either party could terminate or suspend obligations if an occurrence "is beyond reasonable control of the party whose performance is affected,"  thanks to a force majeure clause.  ... included the definition of "epidemics in the City of Houston".

Thinking about his mothers career there as a hotel maid, he had a letter sent canceling the contract.

As the plague news and responses to it are depressing I was watching some of the better performances from Willie's Picnic wile I can.  The stream subscription expires Saturday.

I remembered one performance but not hearing or seeing the name of the artist.  Found the performance again, still no name.  Looked at a list of performers and thought I don't remember hearing anything by John Doe.  He performed in the saloon on acoustic guitar with the house band, Charlie Sexton on electric guitar, drummer, bass and a Steel guitar.  Not for real long but they jammed.  The song was Burning House of Love, it involves revenge or maybe spite and arson. Wish I could link the picnic version.  At least 3-4 versions on utube.  This is the closest to his picnic performance, with no backup at SXSW three years ago.

Just read Trump, McConnell and Repubs are trying to restrict the next round of stimulus checks to people who make $40,000 a year and less.

I make $10,000 in SS, but my wife works and combined we make more than $40,000.

Guess we won't get any checks.

Why do the 1% in charge always look for ways to cut everything to the middle class and poorer?

John Doe is the bass player/vocalist in the seminal LA punk band — X.

My favorite Doe-on-vocals song:

I'm still incredulous about Trump's recent Never-Masker rallies in Tulsa and Phoenix.

In a shout out to Jim DiEugenio's least favorite Hollywood actor, Tom "Parkland" Hanks, I must admit that I did appreciate Hanks' comments this week (on NPR) about masks and the COVID crisis.

Hanks, diplomatically, said that he was "mystified" as to why some Americans were not cooperating with basic public health measures like wearing masks and social distancing.

IMO, the solution to the "mystery" is orange.

I'm exasperated and fearful.  Numbers are exploding.  Extended family members taking risky chances with grandkids, maybe coming back to us tomorrow.  The governor says "Things will get worse... the worst is yet to come".  Yet they/he do almost nothing.   Closed the bars, 50% capacity in restaurants, ha, ha.  Masks required at Wal-Mart, customers w/o walking right in.  Facebook protests over masking tyranny.

Glad I'm not sick in the Rio Grande Valley or Houston in particular.

Joe,

That $40,000 limit will be on your and your wife's adjusted gross income (AGI), not your total income. For people with modest income, only a portion of Social Security income is taxed. Suppose that in your case 20% of your SS income is taxed. Your AGI would be calculated as follows:

     ($10,000 x 0.20) + $30,000 = $32,000

And you would be eligible for the second stimulus check because that is less than the $40,000 limit.

Your AGI for 2019 is printed on line 8b of your tax form 1040. If your wife's income hasn't increased much since then, then your 2020 AGI will be about the same. Check it and see if it less than $40,000. It probably is.

Background info:  I mentioned earlier that I have chronic respiratory failure. My oxygen saturation level is way low and drops to around 30% when sleeping. Normal is 95 to 100%. (Doc says I forget to breath. Which is his way of saying that he (and medicine) has no idea why I take only one breath per minute when sleeping.)

We live in Utah where social distancing and face masks are recommended, but not required. I told my wife a couple months ago that if they opened up school before flattening the curve, I wasn't going to let our 10-year-old attend. I would teach her myself. Because if she were to get infected at school, I would likely catch it from her.... and die.

Good news. We learned the other day that, even though the school district plans on opening school next month -- in spite of our increasing case numbers -- we will be given the option of at-home online classes! I'm pretty happy about that.

And I thought "I" had risky health issues that increased my vulnerability to the virus?

Sandy, you take good care of yourself and your family through this.

Seriously, the best thoughts your way in this regards.
