Did you like "Da  5 Bloods", Dave?

Hey , have you guys seen "Have a Good Trip" on Netflix? it is probably the coolest movie I've seen about Psychedelics. A lot of celebrities, talk about their experience on psychedelics, including Rosie Perez who was slipped some acid unknowingly. Ben Stiller takes it once and starts freaking and phoning his Dad! Of course who could be more enlightening about psychedelics than Sting? Pfffffff!

It's a fascinating documentary.  My favorite quote was Sting saying, "I don't think taking psychedelics is the answer to all of humanity's problems, but it's a start." 🤥

And Anthony Bourdain was a riot.

The most psychedelic thing I've seen in years was Micha Nelson's pre recorded set on Willie's virtual picnic.  Done in the living room of an older house from the looks of it.  Lots of colors, fading in and out of reality to a kind of, I can't describe it.  Wish I could link it, I can watch the whole show over through the 11th.  These two videos are kind of like what Micah/the particle kid did.

Ron,

The Have A Good Trip documentary on Netflix features some of this kind of psychedelic art, along with animations of various trips described by Sting and others.  It's interesting to me as a psychiatrist because there is some fascinating research going on recently at Johns Hopkins and UCLA Neuropsych into the therapeutic potential of psychedelics for PTSD, anxiety and mood disorders, and even addictions.  In fact, one of the people interviewed in the documentary is a psychiatrist at UCLA, Dr. Charles Grob.

On an unrelated note, I'm wondering if people elsewhere in the country experienced non-stop fireworks/explosions in their communities last night.

Here in Denver, we had continuous explosions-- Boom...boom...boom...Snap...crackle..pop...pop...Pop-- from about dusk until midnight.

It was weird, unprecedented, (and illegal in Colorado.)  I'm guessing it had something to do with sheltering-in-place and the cancellation of big fireworks shows in town.

Plague picnic leftovers.  Got a little ticked off last night when the stream froze up just as Willie's part of the show was starting.  It had done this at the start of the show too. We had mirrored the wife's laptop to the fire stick the night before.  But it wouldn't load at showtime.  Backed out re signed in, same thing.  Checked everything, still nothing.  I'm getting up tight thinking $35 for nothing?   Shut hers down, signed in on my laptop and boom, there it was.  Missed nearly 1/2 the first act and as it turns out the opening song.

Today I had leftovers, was able to watch what I missed and re watch some favorite parts.  I didn't realize we had missed Willie's traditional opener Whiskey River, done by a guy I've never heard of named Vincent Neil Emerson.  Great version.  Between that and his set I'm a fan.  This was done with him on a old Magnavox  console TV in the saloon at Luck ranch with the backup band (used by others).  They would zoom in on the TV then out on the band then in again.  Weird at first but I got used to it.  it was also weird that for a picnic none of the performances were outside.  Only a few few friends/family/hands in the background out of sight you could hear applause from occasionally.

I'd heard 2 or 3 songs by the first act, Charley Crockett and liked them, he/they are something to see with a Cajun country flavor at times with a sometimes accordion and trumpet a couple of times, all from the keyboard guy.  I'd pay to see a full show.  They played on the stage in the saloon.  The Peterson brothers are one brother who is outstanding on the electric guitar but seem to play a lot of the same thing over and over, good but got old after 10-15 minutes, they played in the chapel. I've already mentioned Vincent Neil Emerson who also played in the Chapel, just him and his guitar, I think he'd be even better with his band that he mentioned missing.  Shakey Graves was different but he grew on me, talented, I've never seen a heel drum I guess.  Asleep at the Wheel as always were tight.  those twin fiddles are dynamite.  Ray Benson beat covid and came back strong.  He did a tribute he wrote to Merle Haggard shortly after he passed I'd never heard before, pretty.

The 1 1/2 hour "movie" was good.  Some great individual performances, some not quite so great.  The interview's of performers from prior years with footage was cool.  I had never actually seen Robert Earl Keene's mustang burn in the parking lot in the 70's.

Our glitches near the end last night before it froze up began with Sheryl Crow doing Willie's Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground.  Watched it today.  Beautiful.  Even on the TV in the saloon with the house band.

Willie was showing his age a bit but got stronger as he went in a 20 minute set.  Amazing for 87 years young.  A medley of Nightlife/Crazy/Nightlife.  Featuring Bobbie on piano multiple times.  A break for son Lucas to do an obscure Roger Miller song.  Micah on the drums.  Standup bass player wearing a Beto for senate t-shirt.  Even a couple of songs I don't remember hearing before.

The bottom of the standup bass in Charley Crockett's band has the words "this machine kills fascists'" written near it's base.  Does anyone else know where that came from?

The lyrics to this are supposed to be somewhat autobiographical.

Woody Guthrie used to have a sign that said, "This machine kills fascists" on his guitar back in the day.

As this is the JFK - Plague thread I probably should have used this video as it's about Dallas and does show "Trumpet for hire Dallas to New Orleans" in the intro.  And as JFK was killed almost on the banks of the Trinity. . .

It looks like Denver wasn't the only place in the country that experienced unusual fireworks on the 4th.

People were even igniting fireworks again last night here in Denver (probably purchased up on the Wyoming border near Cheyenne.)

'The worst': Illegal Fourth of July fireworks ignite at least 100 fires in California

Just viewed the video above.

I don't think those interviewed are a selective few.

I think they represent the typical Trump rally crowds.

You almost can't believe the ignorance and blind loyalty of these typical Trump rally folk.

This is the bulk of Trump's base.

Even Trump knows that the majority of his base is this stupid.

He wouldn't come within 100 miles of these types of people in his real life.

Much of what these interviewed people related makes you realize what's wrong with our country.

This is also Rush Limbaugh and right wing propaganda radio's base listening audience.

You can show these people the crazy contradictions of reason and logic in their answers to questions about Trump...and yet they either can't see it...or they just shrug and look at their questioner with a blank "so what" look when they do!

You can't embarrass these mindless people. It's like they are "proud" of their own ignorance!

It's truly disturbing to realize maybe half of all Americans are this irrational and full of hate for the constitutional rights of others in their own country.

You actually wonder if the term "inbred" and it's inference of genetic digression is applicable here.

It's like the Confederacy, Joe.  Their people fought because they aspired owning slaves.  Our people vote because they aspire to stay in a Trump hotel.

They used to be able to throw their money away in Trump casinos.  Soon they'll be able to dream of being his apprentice again, because I guarantee you he'll cheapen his former office beyond belief by taking on another reality show.

Kirk Gallaway: “Cliff Love hearing Jello Biafra again!”

Taliban USA is a great great song, great great vid.  Jello is OG Antifa. Dead Kennedys, D.O.A, 7Seconds, MDC were the top political bands in the old school hardcore punk rock scene.

I’ve already posted the DK’s Nazi Punks F-ck Off and 7Seconds’ Racism Sucks.

No war No KKK No fascist USA!

OG Antifa.

Masks are not a political statement.  Being required to wear a mask in public to protect others and ourselves does not mean "they" are coming to take Our guns away.  Other than staying at home  and social distancing masks are one of the few things We can do to try to reduce the spread.  Why are so many so obstinate?
