Bob Dylan's song Roll on John does not, imo, do him justice...

https://www.bobdylan.com/songs/roll-john/

In fact, if anything, it dehumanizes John's memory...

I have just released Imagined...it is un hommage to John Lennon...

Perhaps we should start asking questions.

Why did Bob Dylan not play MMF on his last tour, when it was the one song all of us wanted to hear?

We seem to accept the lone-nut gunman theory without question.

But did Mark David Chapman live in a vacuum? Was he being groomed or provoked into this act of violence by unknown people?

Is there more to this senseless act than meets the eye?

John was targeted both in the UK and the US.  He was a person of great prominence.

Why was his murder never referred to as an assassination?

Could this, in fact, be another Murder Most Foul?

It's not BD's most personal portrait, and the lyrics are a bit lazy, but I don't see it as a detraction.  More like an affectionate near-miss, Dylan's aim spoiled by time.

That is an understandable opinion.  It seemed Yoko was fooled also...

Here's a recent post on Dylagence that references Dylan's 'key' songs with hidden meaning.  Roll on John is not a 'key' song, per se, but I do think the lyrics hold a deeper meaning for the insiders...

I'm not "fooled."  It's not that good a song to be concerned about, one way or the other.  Why are you so concerned?

I doubt one can fool Yoko, a practitioner of the long con.  She was just being political.

Why did Bob not play MMF on his last tour?  Maybe because it was the one song many wanted to hear!

Never accept popular theories without questions.  You don't need a weather man.

Chapman's vacuum....very similar to Sirhan's vacuum.  Did Sirhan know that McKinley was assassinated with an Iver-Johnson gun?  Chapman's finances & world travels + his stalking hotel & airline bills & his attractions to Salinger's prose.  Is there more to this assassination.  I'd like more info on doorman Jose Perdomo for starters!  Best book by British barrister Fenton Bresler 'Who Killed John Lennon'.

Another MMF?  I smell rats.  Livin' on borrowed time.

Ironically, when it became obvious Bob was not going to play MMF on this tour, my first reaction was that maybe the lyrics wouldn't fit on top of the piano...(that's where he keeps them)...

But as I dig deeper into John Lennon's life in NYC it is becoming evident there may be a lot about it and what happened to him that we don't know, if for no other reason than that most of us just bought into the lone/deranged fan theory.

In Gimme Some Truth, for example, it is evident that Lennon was targeted by a frantic FBI who was certain he and Yoko were going to disrupt the 1972 Republican convention.  Most of this turned out to be hogwash, but that didn't stop them.  Further, one of the people in the Lennons' inner circle was Elliot Mintz, whom they said was ex-FBI. So they were being spied on from within.

And yes, I have a lot of questions about Chapman. Why aren't we asking the same questions about him that we ask about LHO and Sirhan?

The doorman looks interesting too.  Thanks, I'll read Who Killed John Lennon...

Thank you, Paul. I was quite naive back then about the effect the Zauberflote has. Some cry, others gnash their teeth. But I've learned that it all works for good...
