I believe Joy Reid is taking his place --a woman with great intelligence, insight and courage.  Unlike Mathews, Joy has social skills that will bring out the best in her guests.  I find that replacement ironic, because, as a guest with Mathews, she was treated badly by Mathews on a number of occasions.  It seemed to me that Chris couldn't keep up with her and dismissed her thoughts outright.  But, last night, she was effusive in describing Mathews' helping her with her career.  She's a classy woman.

I sure won't miss Mathew's incessant almost manic cutting off and talking over his guests, especially ones he was trying to confront or counter.

Complete with that peculiar spittle laced lisp of his.

This interview manner of his was so irritating and unprofessional to me, my stomach would tense up at times to where I would have to change the channel.

I get the same cringing feeling watching arrogant and condescending Trump motor mouthpiece Kelly Ann Conway doing the same thing whenever she is interviewed by any political talk show hosts outside of Fox news.

I only watch her occasionally because of my odd attraction to her S&M dominatrix good looks.

It probably doesn't matter at this point, but Biden must have been thrilled to watch Chris Mathews compare Bernie Sanders to the coronavirus epidemic and the Nazi conquest of France in the run up to Super Tuesday.

Chris Matthews was a sell out, plain and simple.  As I noted in my article he did everything he could to make himself palatable to the Powers That Be after the earthquake caused by Stone's film JFK.  He then went to work on Nixon.  He then did that horrendous dual biography Kennedy and Nixon.  And that did the trick.

To me, anyone who says things like JFK was a Cold Warrior, that no one in the Kennedy administrations says Kennedy would not have gone into VIetnam, who writes a book about JFK and does not mention NSAM 263, and then compares the Sanders win in Nevada to the fall of France to the Third Reich, or Castro executing people in Central Park, that guy has simply lost his moral compass.

BTW, I am not all that impressed by Joy Reid either.  I would actually like Shep Smith better. (Melissa Harris Perry was  good, but they made sure she did not stick around.) As I said, MSNBC is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I couldn't stand they way Shep was at the end at Foxnews, but he is the best live breaking news anchor at this time. I always had Mathews pegged as more of a plain idiot than some sort of sell out or useful stooge.

As in all of these Talking Head Apologists for the Warren Commission (THAWC) cases-- Dan Rather, Jim Lehrer, Bill O'Reilly, et.al.-- I keep coming back to the question of who was pulling their strings at the networks (CBS, PBS, Fox, MSNBC, etc.) 

Who was telling them that they had to lie about the assassination of JFK?  And why?

Why were these powerful media moguls-- e.g., William S. Paley, Rupert Murdoch, Ralph and Brian Roberts, et.al.--  so invested in hiring and managing talking heads who lied about the Warren Commission?

Because covering up the past allows them to control the future. When 5%, 1%, .1% whichever own 95-98% of the media what should we expect?

I never had a problem with Matthews. His show was modeled after some of the old-time shows, like Firing Line, The Mclaughlin Group,  and The O'Reilly Factor. Pundits and authors came on the show to spin their spin and the host was there to shoot them (shout them) down and/or make them earn their stripes. It was kinda like Boot Camp. The host was not expected to be nice, or even correct in his opinions. He was just supposed to be colorful.

As a teenager, when I first started reading L.A. Times movie and music reviews, I was appalled---how could he/she say this about this movie or that band?  Over time, however, I realized that the readers were not supposed to take these reviews at face value, but to get to know the critics (Champlin, Hilburn, etc) and consider the source. So, yes, over time, I was able to read most any L.A. Times movie/music review, and know how I would respond to the movie/music. Which is kind of the point.

So, like I said, I never had a problem with Matthews. I accepted that his views were the views of an old Irish/American Democratic pol, to whom a mass coverup like the Warren Commission was unthinkable. As he was raised with the fear/knowledge of socialism/communism, moreover, I was not surprised when he failed to embrace Bernie, and expressed surprise that so many were attracted to socialism.

To re-phrase my question (above) into two separate questions-- possibly unanswerable without honest memoirs by the talking heads.

1)  Have the numerous Warren Commission apologists in the mainstream U.S. media since 1963 -- Dan Rather, Jim Lehrer, Chris Mathews, et.al.-- mainly been calling it as they (erroneously) see it?  (i.e., Do they sincerely believe the Lone Nut WC narrative?)

2)  If not, have they been lying because of direct pressure from their network owners and CEOs, or because of individual contracts with the CIA "Mockingbird" managers?
