Ron Bulman
Plague Journalwise we had crept up to 11 cases after SIP started then no new ones for close to three weeks. A week or so after partial reopening it began to creep up again. To 18 by midweek last week. 6 on Thursday, 2 on Friday, a significant jump, hopefully a small town and lightly populated county (30 K) anomaly. Troubling though, not many masks being worn, bars and gym's are open. Protesters most with masks, cop's too. Still you wonder about the close contact, will there be a surge as a result? Trouble in mind on a Saturday night though. I'm not going to lay my head on that railroad track and let that big 1800 pacify my worried mind. But this relates tonight. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=trouble+in+mind+i'm+blue+hank+wiliams+jr&docid=607994784204259841&mid=92B9E779F2DAF7D0574F92B9E779F2DAF7D0574F&view=detail&FORM=VIRE
Ray Mitcham
18 hours ago, David Andrews said: Thanks, Ray. I hadn't seen the video in this quality before. Mr. Gugino clearly has a cell phone in his right hand. I think that's a Coronavirus plastic face shield in his left hand. If he had been returning a lost police helmet, that would have been an "officer down" situation, and the police response would have been much worse. The New York Times online has the best video copy. The guy centred is Aaron Torgalski . You can make out his name on his badge. Let's hope he is prosecuted.
David Andrews
As has been said, the issue is demilitarizing the police, not defunding them. Confusing the concepts just makes understanding impossible for both sides. I give the mayor of Minneapolis credit for coming out to this rally, unguarded and humble, but refusing to commit to defunding. (it's an almost Shakespearean moment, a reversal of the roles in Coriolanus.) When the mayor commits to demilitarization, and can explain the benefits to a crowd, progress might well be made. The question is, as in Oliver Stone's Nixon, whether the Executive office is strong enough to change a militarized situation. Meanwhile, Utopians of any race who want no police force at all can just dream on... Maybe Batman will show up. From suffocating someone to arresting or shooting reporters with rubber bullets to busting an old mans head on the concrete to shooting people on their porch with paint balls, or peaceful protesters with bean bags that injure them. Like Dr. Wecht said in another thread they're saying screw you.
Ron Bulman
Plague wise we're still trending upwards on new cases here in Texas at roughly 35% over the last 14 days. A new single day all time high last Friday. They blame it on the prisons, nursing homes and increased testing, all factors but still I wonder. Locally, rurally for the county, 2 new cases in town yesterday, that's 19 since we started re opening. An upward trend. FB post blames it on a protest march last Thursday, citing a 5 1/2 day incubation period, The math doesn't work. I thought it was 1 - 2 weeks. I blame it on the restaurant's in particular, the parking lots are packed, no way they are maintaining anything close to social distancing. Though a wave may be coming from the protests. Look at Florida after opening early. The trend in new cases nationwide is still not going down. It may well spread this fall after schools and football open if they do. If it should that could effect the election in more ways than one. Guess I'm just naturally too pessimistic. Hope I'n wrong. This song is playing on something on the tv at the moment. Made me want to hear the whole thing. Thought I'd share, not JFK or Plague related. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=back+in+the+saddle+aerosmith&view=detail&mid=639B3712B05F46484205639B3712B05F46484205&FORM=VIRE0&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3dback%2bin%2bthe%2bsaddle%2baerosmith%26form%3dPRUSEN%26mkt%3den-us%26httpsmsn%3d1%26msnews%3d1%26rec_search%3d1%26refig%3d0588e56625624c83989d1cfd566aecd4%26sp%3d4%26qs%3dAS%26pq%3dback%2bin%2bthe%2bsaddle%2b%26sk%3dPRES1LS2AS1%26sc%3d8-19%26cvid%3d0588e56625624c83989d1cfd566aecd4
James DiEugenio
this is really getting horrific. These early openings, plus the demonstrations just may start a second wave. I wonder how the GOP will hide the figures. You know they will.
