The left/liberal/Democrat party identifiers have been very successfully demonized in this time frame. I was pondering your question, Joe, and something dawned on me. Perhaps the assassinations of JFK, MLK, and RFK were the first phase of a plan to emasculate, or eliminate, the left as a political force in this country. During this phase all of the victims were accorded an heroic martyr status by the press in the wake of their deaths. The cynicism that the assassinations created caused the majority to lose trust in, and ultimately turn away from, government. Maybe that was the goal of phase one. Phase two, which started in the mid to late 1970's, was the posthumous character assassination of the murdered men. The goal of this phase was to convince the majority that the deaths of these leaders didn't matter, because all three of these men were deeply flawed individuals, and therefore their deaths didn't matter. The three decades long demonization of progressive politicians and their policy proposals by a well funded right leaning media conglomerate, both on radio and television is, perhaps, part of phase three...
